    Western style bar
    Catherine M.

It doesn't feel like a typical Italian spot but the Swiss hotel bar and restaurant has that western old school charm that was unique to eat in. They have a large indoor and outdoor patio which was quite busy on a Saturday evening. We ordered the brie and apples meal, which was nice but not something that blew us away (though had a great brie ratio to apple). We also got a wedge salad which was tasty and not overly salty, and a pizza with artichokes, olives, etc which was very very salty but filling. Service was quick at first and then got a bit slow as we wanted to close out. A solid spot in the square with ok service and pretty decent food.

Love the intimate feel and searing of this restaurant. We had the burrata which comes with tomato and was amazing. The meat lovers pizza was also great, the bacon was crispy on it and the ingredients tasted high quality. Service was very fast and accommodating. Love coming here!

Love visiting sonoma and you must experience eating at swiss restaurant at least once. the service was pretty quick. We got lucky to sit right away probably easy for a table for 2. Good date place or come visit with friends. The ambiance is moderately noisy. It's good for groups and spacious so expect the chatter. The food was great! We both enjoyed our steak and lovely bottle of wine and ofcourse coffee and dessert! Belissimo!

We saw a billboard for this restaurant and looked it up. This place is is a hidden gem! We had the rotini bollinaise and a dish on the special menu which was spaghetti, mushrooms, onions and sirloin tips. Both items were absolutely delicious! Our waiter was pretty great too!

This is my second time here. Last summer, we ate in the front patio with Cako, but this time my friends and I ate in the back patio. It's nice in the back though the heater closest to us wasn't working but what the heck. Good food and friends is what it was about. The fried cheese ravioli was delicious! I should've had another for dinner! I also had the clam chowder since it was chilly and it was good! Since we had been drinking of the grape all day, I had the rigatoni bolognese....soooo good! The ladies had the pan roasted rosemary chicken which they loved. We also had the chocolate cake which went great with the rest of the wine. It was a great way to end the day! Service was attentive but not intrusive which I like. We got to chat with the owner which was nice! Until next time!

We stopped by to eat here after a morning of wine tasting in Calistoga. The service was very good and the food was decent. My brother had went in to ask for a table in the back patio since we had a dog with us and he had mentioned to the hostess that we had a dog. She made arrangements for us to go to the back patio to eat but upon waling back there we saw another family had their great pyrenees at their table with them and the hostess then told my brother that I had to tie my dog up outside..next to this dog that I didn't know and many feet away from the table she was seating us at. She said that dogs are not allowed inside of the back patio but had to be tied up outside. Uh..no thanks. Unless you are willing to pay for the vet bill if the dog that is 5xs the size of my dog decided to do something to her then I rather not just tie my dog up outside. My boyfriend and I opted to go to the front patio, which is VERY DOG-FRIENDLY by the way. They even gave her a water bowl and many dog treats. Bread was served and our orders were taken very quick. The waitress was very attentive and made sure to keep checking in on us. To add, she was the only waitress working in the front and her service was better than any other place I had been too AND she was working 7-9 tables alone. I ordered the seafood pappardelle ($22 I think) and it was very delicious. The scallops and shrimp were so fresh and the sauce was not too heavy. My dad told me he ordered the salmon which came out served with some kind of hair on it (...uhh that's appetizing) and my mom's ravioli was overpriced for the amount she was served. I don't think i would return here because it was not that interesting to me. The service was good but the food options were just meh.

My Sonoma Square Itinerary... Lunch at The Fig (The Girl & The Fig). A Glarifee @ The Swiss (The Swiss Hotel). Random Wandering around The Square. Dinner @ EDK (El Dorado Kitchen). Or... Dinner @ The Fig. A Glarifee @ The Swiss. Or... Dinner @ EDK. A Glarifee @ The Swiss. Ah, the fabulous, fabululous Glarifee. A cold coffee drink that is uniquely The Swiss Hotel's. It's a very old, secret, family recipe. And I think everyone should have one. A family member makes a batch everyday. No one else knows what exactly goes into it. Oh, the mystique! This establishment is old & old school. Sit inside or out on the porch overlooking the square. Since I've never eaten here, I can't comment on the food. But I do know that they've revamped the menu. About a year ago I was told by the bartender that they were working on stepping it up a notch. It's not a visit to the Square without a stop here. For a Glarifee. 4 stars.

pizza #4: salami, olives, artichoke hearts
    Liz W.

This place is adorable, and my girls and I ate in the sunny back patio last week during our wine tour. They start you off with freshly baked bread and olive oil/vinaigrette, which we scarfed down. My friend and I shared pizza #4 which had salami, olives, artichoke hearts, and cheese on it. I think it's more than enough pizza to share between two girls. I'd give it a 3 star rating because the olives were intensely salted and it was a little overwhelming. My other two friends shared pizza #2, and I would have to give that 4 stars. Their pizza was delicious and the mushrooms were so good and fresh! I also tried a bite of my friend's roasted eggplant sandwich which was absolutely disgusting, but the pulled pork sandwich was delicious! The caramelized onions added a great flavor, and the bread was crunchy/soft/toasted to perfection :)

When I asked our guide for a recommendation, he suggested making a reservation here. My mom and I, as well as another party of two from our tour, booked as such, while the rest went elsewhere. It was the day before my birthday, so I didn't notate a special occasion in my reservation. I guess OpenTable told them though?? I remain perplexed, but they were soooooo kind and stopped over to ask whose birthday it was. TBH, every last person who worked there was ridiculously friendly and made us feel like we were part of their family. The patio dining area was stellar too. They're known for their homemade gnocchi, so my mom and I both purchased variations. She had it with pomodoro, while I tried it with the white sauce. They were unlike gnocchis I've tried at other spots, and I mean that in a good way. I'm still so bummed I couldn't bring my leftovers with me, because every bite was truly delightful. I'd also be remiss to omit their homemade bread, which was wonderfully flaky and fresh. We didn't order dessert, but they did bring out a berry-themed birthday cake. It was like they knew that was my usual birthday order each year! It surpassed the meal/dessert I had on my actual birthday, and even the presentation was exceptional. I wish I lived closer to California so that I could easily return! Thank you for a top-tier birthday-eve memory!!

Yesterday was a low key chill day, and we needed a place to just relax and begin to let go of all the stress. The girl and the fig was just right. We showed up, no previous reservation made,we showed up during their peak hours and they managed to seat us within 5 mins perfectly were we requested. Perfect ambiance to sit, drink, eat and enjoy a beautiful sunset. We started with The Morel mushroom tartare, which is morel mushrooms, with an egg, shallots and chives oil over a perfectly well toasted sourdough. Delicious! The steak tartare did not disappoint either. Great balance of flavor between the two. The mushroom earthy flavors along with a light hint of pesto from the morel tartare really balanced out the richness from the steak tartare. The pickled figs served with in the steak tartare really called my attention as they were delicious as well. That was my first having pickled figs :) The salad was delicious, I am a sucker for cheese and the perfectly ripe figs along with the chèvre cheese truly hit the spot. The wild flounder pouched was the wild surprise! I love a restaurant that preps their seafood just right. I love seafood! And I do not like it when it's over cooked. This dish did not disappoint! It was so rich and delicious. Flaky yet nicely seared on one side full of that citrus flavors along which just enhances fish's flavor once it hits the taste buds! Otherwise, it felt bright and cheery! For food, I ordered the fig & arugula salad and the smoked salmon. The salad was a great portion size for a meal (or to share as a side), it was perfectly dressed, and the toppings were proportional & balanced. One of the better salads I've had out! The smoked salmon was good but nothing to write home about. Their house chips are nice and thick, which I like, but a little too salty for me. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were soft and flavorful, though I personally prefer them a bit crispier. Similar to the carbonara, the added lemon flavor took away from the dish for me and overpowered some of the other flavors that would have otherwise shined. The arancini was excellent with a perfect ratio of rice to filling and an incredible cheese pull that made it a standout appetizer. However, our favorite starter, and arguably our favorite dish of the meal, was the Wagyu meatballs. They were cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, and paired with a sauce that was absolutely incredible. In fact, they were one of the best things we ate during our entire trip to Napa. I would highly recommend stopping in just to order the meatballs. I was especially excited for the fish, but unfortunately the combination of the salt block and caviar made the dish overwhelmingly salty for my taste. We truly came for the carbonara and were disappointed that it did not live up to our expectations. There were so many elements that would have made it a perfect dish. The pasta was cooked beautifully, the sauce was rich, and the guanciale was perfectly prepared. However, an added citrus or lemon flavor overpowered the classic flavors we were hoping for and took away from what otherwise could have been an outstanding carbonara. The star of the meal was the Raviolo. Between the egg yolk, truffles, brown butter, and the rich filling, every bite was exceptional. It was easily one of the best ravioli dishes I've ever had and a dish I would return for without hesitation. Even the bread service was memorable. The Parmesan and garlic accompaniment was absolutely delicious and set the tone for the meal from the very beginning. While not every dish was a perfect fit for our preferences, the atmosphere, service, and standout dishes made Bottega a memorable stop in Napa. The Raviolo and Wagyu meatballs alone are worth ordering and are dishes we will be thinking about long after the trip is over.
