I was looking for a place that served breakfast and found this place through Yelp. It's Wednesday about 11:00 am. The place is full of people. Only a couple of seats available. I ate at the counter. First, the service is fantastic...seriously, they were right on spot with everything...water when you sit down, taking the order and delivery of the meal. They asked if I needed anything else like ketchup or Tabasco. The coffee was very good...I'm a Starbucks fan which is a high bar...still I drank two cups. The food was served quickly and hot. I got the two eggs over easy with bacon (comes with potatoes and toast). It was excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly based on my requests. The server wasn't pushy but alert. Finally, the prices were good...reasonable. The salads here aren't $18. I would definitely come back when I'm in this area. I totally recommend this place...an excellent dining place (also serve lunch and dinner). read more

I came here upon recommendation after an appointment. I will say the wait staff were attentive, courteous and fast. I ordered a coffee that tasted horrendous and sent it back. It was quickly replaced with a good Americano as I'd requested. The sandwiches I ordered for my son and I did not come with pickles and coleslaw as promised on the menu and when I received my bill I was horrified to be charged $5.75 for an espresso! Come on! I was pissed, but it wasn't the waiter's fault, it was the OWNERS fault, so of course I was going to tip. But there was no option to do so with a card. The owner wasn't there that day, of course. Take care of your staff and your customers. $25.00 for a kid's grilled cheese and a fried egg sandwich and an espresso- I have been hit hard by this pandemic. i have barely worked this last year. You should be bending over backwards to accommodate clients like other restaurants I have been to. You're lucky you're still opened. read more

I was curious about califlower crust pizza. I tried it and it was delicious! The crust is nice and crunchy! It is also gluten free. I am not gluten free but thought it might a healthy alternative.... I got so much fruit at this diner!! I was hoping for more carbs, like an extra slice or two of the French bread, but I did enjoy my fresh fruit. Ladies, the restroom door does have some resistance, so just push. I waited outside just in case there was a weak and quiet person in there trying to keep the door shut. Wasn't anyone. Brand new, beautiful and clean location next to their old spot. I placed an order over the phone and had a nice chat with the gentleman at the front hostess station when I arrived. Assuming he is part of the management team. Sorry forgot your name. He was telling me about the new upgrades and space. He also mentioned they are going to start making pizzas after 5pm from their previous Fratelli's restaurant that used to occupy the space. Food was fresh and great. Can't wait to try their pizza too. When I got home I noticed they put a muffin in my bag, a nice touch to let customers know they're excited to have your return business in their new space. A welcome addition to the area! Awful experience. I had just finished an exhausting workout and was incredibly hungry for some diner food. Much to my misfortune I happened to stumble upon this abysmal restaurant. It was completely empty and horribly expensive. I was expecting to at least get decent food, but me, as well as my two buddies who came with me, were all shocked at the small servings and poor quality of the food. The chocolate milk tasted like nesquik, the steak was undercooked, and the place smelled like absolute booty. It felt like the only functional aspect of the restaurant was their microwave. We have been ordering delivery 1 to 2 times a week from this restruant all year but the past month they have been very disappointing! Poorly packed orders (leaking over all packed in the bag) wrong items & sides left out completely! Poor customer service for the $$! Too bad when I called to inform them of the issues they blamed the delivery guy...Really he did not take or pack the order! Better you should have offered a complimentary dessert to sweeten your mistakes than excuses on a $65.00 order before tip! read more

Good for comfort food to dine in. Do not come here if you want something healthy. I had the vegetable lasagna is was good..but it was mostly just cheese ( not complaining) we also got the stuffed mushrooms which were excellent they use a ton of crab which is nice. In fact, we had breakfast there today & our waiter (Edwardo) was wonderful. He was so attentive & pleasant. I had the lox & onion omelette with 7 grain toast & my hubby had their avocado toast which came with poached eggs on 7 grain toast. Both were yummy. Rest of the food needed so much ketchup, fake butter/syrup, and salt/pepper to get out of bland territory. The person who made that meal does not like to cook. This diner was ode drid. As soon as the server came up to us with the mask below his nose, I knew this was gonna be an experience filled with laughter and dissatisfaction. I got the steak and eggs, and was not offered any steak sauce. The steak was unhealthily undercooked and the eggs were pretty good, but it's pretty hard to mess up fried eggs. There was a mouse running around our table during our meal. Let's start with that. When my father mentioned it to one of the owners, he immediately said it came from outside, no way it came from inside. Ummm okay but it was in your restaurant. Running around our legs. The owner got nasty right away and claimed "it's NYC, there are mice everywhere", then said he would shove it up my father's "tuchus" and proceeded to quickly usher us out saying "you should eat wherever you're comfortable." He then capped off his customer service by saying to my father "you've probably been abusive to your wife for the past 40 years." Wow. Way to be professional. If you like rodents circling your feet at dinner or nasty smarmy owners running the show, you'll love Cafe Luka! This place is great. We've been doing laundry around the corner since we moved to NY a few weeks ago and ended up coming to Cafe Luka while our laundry is being cleaned. The owners (2 brothers) are super friendly and make everyone in the restaurant feel comfortable. They always make a point to greet you. The menu has great variety and the coffee is very good. Love their homefries and whole grain toast. They have a large lunch menu so will have to come back for lunch another day. The service is always timely and everyone very friendly. They are quick to clear plates and have TV's inside which my fiance enjoys. Will be back at least every 2 weekends while we're in NY!! read more

My go-to place was closed for renovations so I decided to try this place, what a mistake! Rude on the phone ruder in person. I ordered the pancakes with turkey bacon and avocado toast (if you could call it that). My total was almost $39.00! The prices do not reflect what they have on their site. Three red flags that I chose to ignore. Got the food home and the 3 pieces of bacon looked like they were a week old. I think this was real bacon but it was so old and refried so many times it was hard to tell what the hell it was. The avocado toast was the worst thing I have ever been served. How could they sell grey, stringy, old, rotten, avocado half smeared on burnt toast, it looked like toast someone had sent it back weeks ago and they kept it and reserved it. We have been going to Cafe Luca for years, always enjoyed it, but must report that the new changes to the cafe do nothing to make the experience comfortable or enjoyable. The new design and location is Cold, very loud, very tight(tables are tiny,few booths),staff seems scarce and fewer, and if you look up at the walls the art can be quite disturbing. I know it needed some updating but patron comfort should have gotten more attention. read more

Solid 3 stars. The music they were playing was awful. Like being on hold with some seedy travel agency for the entire time you're eating, in surround sound. Service was pleasant and the food was surprisingly decent despite how 80's this place feels. It's not the cheapest for a diner, or for this caliber of food. My burger came back well done (but juicy!), and the fries were a measly portion (but yummy!). Whatever barbeque sauce they're buying is absolutely terrible. Still, everything else was great. Came here when I lived in the area, now I come after grueling overnight shifts dealing with NYC's best ( patients) Mornings are full of hospital staff, decompressing, eating and having a morning cocktail. Decent size space, its like a Diner and a cafe had a baby- boom cafe luka. Staff is fast and friendly, the owner is amusing and entertaining. Cafe Luka is my favorite local diner. If you live anywhere in the east 60's or 70's around 1st ave, I urge you to try. This is a clean (I believe, family run) diner. The service is always top notch, the servers are always friendly, and the food is cooked fast and cooked well. My favorite brunch dish at Cafe Luka is the Huevos Rancheros. They give you a large plate full of eggs (your choice of style) guacamole, diced tomato salsa/salad , good home fries, and tortillas (which I usually substitute for rye toast.) I personally like to mix all the components together (which tastes much better than it looks,) but trust me, is delicious. They also do a great job making all the basics, eggs, pancakes, sandwiches etc. Overall, this is a diner you can always rely on. They do have a bit of a line sometimes on weekends, but they have a good amount of tables and you never have to wait too long. Good coffee, good food, good enough for me! read more
