As far as diners goes, Cafe Luka is an all star. With classic diner ambiance and menu, Cafe Luka is diner food done right. No complaints about my matzo ball soup or tuna sandwich. Both were great. After not tasting the feta in the omelet something was mentioned to our waiter and without hesitation or request, a cup of crumbled feta was brought to the table. When they found out why we were there they made sure that we didn't feel rushed to leave. The food was delicious & the coffee kept flowing. We needed a spot near my doctors office for a quick breakfast after my visit. The receptionist in his office suggested Cafe Luke. Not being familiar with the area we went with her suggestion. Typical coffee shop vibe. We were shown to our table ordered some coffee and a couple of bacon and egg sandwiches. Pretty much what you would expect out of a standard NYC diner. Solid food in a casual and clean setting. Large menu filled with all the normal diner food offerings. Really nice staff works here that is very attentive. My coffee cup was never too long without a refill, and my water glass was also taken care of. Dropped in here the other day for a quick bite and saw a bunch of decent lunch options. A bit on the pricier side for a diner so this spot would not be a normal visit. Had a chicken salad wrap with mango and walnuts that came with a soup and drink. Portion size was just right for lunch and the lentil soup I had was nice and thick. Overall taste was ok, but for $11.95 it's not something I would order here again. What I did notice is that this diner has a large amount of booth seating in the front room with more table seating in the back, and windows that fold open to let the impression of outside seating when the weather is nice. It also have a very heavy wooden decor giving it more of an upscale look than most diners in the area. Cute little NYC diner. Traditional diner food and lots of options! Today I ordered the Greek salad - the large is very big and plenty for a whole meal. Best part is that you can order it chopped! Lots of grape leaves and feta cheese - the best parts. My friend ordered an omelette which looked amazing - very large portion as well. We hung around and chatted for a while with no issue. Cafe Luka was a nice place to stop by after a long shift at work. It was fun to see other medical staff there. I find it to be deserving of a solid 3.5 stars. It's more like a diner than a cafe. They seem to offer the basics of breakfast and lunch. I was a little shocked to see that an eggs Benedict w/ Lox was close to $19 or a bagel with salmon was similarly priced, but I just considered it part of the inflation of UES dining. It tasted fine. My guess is that the eggs weren't organic and the salmon wasn't anything special, but the the flavor was there. The potatoes that come with the dish were most necessary. The mimosa was a decent value. It was served in a nice tall glass and was generously filled with champagne. The staff was also really nice. They definitely treat you as if they are welcoming you into their home, which was a nice touch. The food came out quickly and they brought us the check quickly without making us feel rushed to leave. While I would come back here if invited by a friend, it wouldn't be on my list of bookmarks. read more

They change their prices at will. The menu price is not what the bill comes out to. Way on the bottom of the back of the menu is a note that says it can change the prices at any time. Cash only. But customers will not know that the prices went up. Most people do not read the back bottom of the Menu. They know that obviously! It should be right in the front of the menu At the very least. Better yet, price changes should be on the actual menu In an honest fashion. Food was ok. I'd go elsewhere. read more

I order takeout service to the Hemsley Hotel where I'm staying because it's close to the surgery center one of my family members is going to. The hotel advertises that they have an arrangement with the Cafe so that guest of the hotel get 15% of there order, so I though that would be a great deal. I called in the order and told where I was staying, but the person on the phone wanted the address of the hotel, even though they had an arrangement with them, I gave him the discount code and told him to give a 10% gratuity to the delivery guy. He was very curt on the phone, like hurry up your bothering me. We got the food really fast and it was pretty good, especially the cheesecake,. Not $90 good, but it's NY. Went for breakfast and was very disappointed with the food. We ordered the Challah French toast for 15 dollars which came with 2 thin slices of regular looking bread. It was literally like two slices of wonder bread. Our second dish was the avocado egg toast for 18.75. Similarly underwhelming. A little avocado smeared on two thin sliced whole wheat bread with a small helping of hash browns. The meal was literally 4 pieces of bread, half a potato and two eggs that cost over 42 dollars with tax and tip. I have lived in NYC for over 5 years and I am used to high prices but I have not been price gouged that badly before. With high prices normally comes some element of quality. Shockingly high priced diner food with zero ambiance. I don't get it. I ordered scrambled eggs with fries and an English muffin. The eggs were over cooked and dry, the English muffin was under toasted, and the fries were as tasty as cardboard. We've been to Cafe Luka several times now for breakfast, brunch, & lunch. Every time it's the same. Great food, fast, friendly service and clean! It's our go to neighborhood diner and it's hard to go elsewhere for a quick meal knowing what we can expect from Cafe Luka. It's going to take some time to get through the menu, it's so big but we aim to try. You can tell the place is always full of "regulars" and to me that says a lot about a place. We always bring our guests who visit us in the city. Never disappoints! read more

This place is awesome. I looked for "diner near me" and this came up. While the menu is extensive like a diner, it is so much nicer. My Cobb Salad was yummy, and it was so big I hardly made a dent in it. I'd give the fries a 9. They were piping hot but would need to be a smidge crispier to be a 10. The service was excellent and the maitre d' even gave me his hand to take the step to the outside dining, a nice touch. I look forward to going back. read more

My friends and I came here after work this morning, and it definitely wasn't our best idea. We came here for mimosas and breakfast. The mimosas were actually quite great, and huge! They were in a nice sized wine glass and were the perfect mix of champagne and orange juice. I'm definitely still a little tipsy as I write this. But oh boy, the food was atrocious! And quite pricey. I got the lumberjack, which is two eggs with ham, bacon, sausage, a fruit salad or muffin, and French toast or waffles or pancakes. I chose to go with poached eggs with the muffin and French toast. The muffin came first and was quite tasty actually. They grilled it for a bit which was phenomenal, but the rest of the food came which kind of was a general bummer. The French toast was bland, the ham and bacon looked limp and weren't terribly tasty, and while the sausage and eggs were good, they didn't make up for the general fail of everything else. And for 17 dollars, I expected it to be okay. I supposed it's okay for diner food, but the price just doesn't match up. I've included a picture as well (or will once I figure out how) Plus my friends ordered a chicken sandwich that just by look was dry and bland, and although it was supposed to come with cole slaw, they didn't give any, and we had to actually ask for it. Blah! My friends didn't even end up eating it, they ended up just packing it to go. Overall the experience was really lacking, and I doubt I'll come back again. Or only for mimosas. Ok, so let me say...my last review of this place was less than stellar. However, after reading the other most positive reviews and it's just general ease of access due to my location, I thought I'd try this place again. This time, I ate for breakfast/brunch. It was a more positive experience. The food has been consistent, or consistently run-of-the-mil. However, that's fine with me, as when I go to a diner, I just want to eat and don't expect top-notch cuisine. It tends to get busy here on weekday brunch times, but they are pretty efficient. It's a nice neighborhood joint to grab something quickly, yet still sit and chat with friends, etc. So, overall, I recommend this place and have been back multiple times. However, I think I would only come here for brunch. Last time, I ate here for dinner and I didn't like it. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and the place was super pack. The wait was rather quick tho, about 15 mins. They have a big selection of brunch specials on weekends. For about $13 to 14 dollars, the brunch entree is served with either a muffin or fresh fruit cup, coffee or tea, and a choice of alcoholic drink like mimosa, bloody Mary, sangria or orange juice. All the items on the menu were very reasonable price. And ranges from burgers, hot entrees, sandwiches, salads, desserts, etc. We got a Spanish omelet, which is served with 2 eggs, however style you want, guacamole, salsa, sour cream and two tortillas. It was pretty good but the guacamole wasn't too fresh. My friend got some kind of omelet. And it was very bland, soggy and just bad. I got a glass of red wine, and the wine just tasted like really cheap wine. The whole time we were there, I felt like we were rushed since there were constantly more people waiting at the door.
