I came here for the first time around 11am during the Sunday brunch rush. The line was long, the eatery was packed, but I was determined to try this place out. An FYI for newcomers (i.e. people like me who didn't know what was going on upon walking into the crowded restaurant), you order at the counter, give the cashier your name, find a seat, and someone will call your name and bring your food to you. After figuring all this out, I ordered their banana, strawberry, and almond butter smoothie (about $8) along with the cheddar chive egg biscuit sandwich ($5.50) I have read so much about. Both were extremely delicious but the cheddar chive biscuit (which I added bacon to) stole the show. You must try it! Aside from the food, the service was great (didn't take too long given the lengthy line and brunch rush), the staff was friendly, and the vibe was chill. Needless to say, I'll be back to try more of their delectable sounding menu items. And if all those options fail me, they'll still have a customer for life if they keep on making those cheddar chive biscuit sandwiches! I'm obsessed. read more

After living in Flatbush for about a month now, Cafe Madeline has already become one of my go-to spots in the area. Every time I stop by I always leave happy and satisfied! Whether popping in for just a coffee or going in and getting food, you really can't go wrong with your order here. The atmosphere of Cafe Madeline is one that is warm and comfortable, and is perfectly suitable for a day of reading and coffee or for a meal with friends and family. There's a lot of seating so you're able to plop down just about wherever. The food here is delicious. My mouth waters whenever I think of the cheddar biscuits or their avocado toast. They have good smoothies too, and the pastries are pretty yummy (I'm a sucker for a good almond croissant). What I think I love most about Cafe Madeline is their, how do I put it... interesting branding. Walking by the cafe you would never know it's name, you'd probably think this place was called Farmers Market Cafe or 'Good Fooooood and Good Coffeeeee' (the signs that adorn the entrance). There are less menu items to choose from, and there are less choices per item, for example bread types. The steamed tea latte with soy milk is an awesome tea concoction. The wife ordered the cappucino, and they made a neat little cat in the foam. The WiFI is a nice treat (the password is written in the bottom left corner o the menu board), the mini cupcakes from financier are nicer. Although, I do believe at a dollar a piece, they are kind of over-priced. Okay, the food is pretty good, but why, why, WHY does it take so long to get it?! I live in the neighborhood and rarely stop in because the place is ALWAYS jammed (even when you think everyone should be at work or something?), there's ALWAYS a line, AND THEN it takes an eternity to get your food. Today I was optimistic when I saw a sign for online ordering. So I took advantage of that and ordered my sandwich while standing outside the place (because once again, the line was ridiculous, and it's MONDAY AFTERNOON for heaven's sake!). The website said my food would be ready for pickup at 1:00 pm (it was 12:45 when I completed the order). Nope. Try 15 minutes AFTER that, the same as if I had waited in line. Fresh and tasty food as well as signature drinks. Love the fact that you can sweeten your drink to your desire, order at the front counter and have the food delivered to your seat. A few cons though. For one the place is not very ventilated and the place consistently smells of the food that is cooking on the grill. You will come out of there smelling like cooked food which im not a fan of. Second, only one exit which is in the front. Safety risk if you ask me. Third the decor, the place needs a mother's touch. It's a fairly small place The food was okay but it probably may have been my pick, I got the kimchi breeki bowl and added sautéed kale to it. I feel like they added way too much kale and that the egg wasn't seasoned. They have a HUUUGGGGEEE menu so maybe the kimchi was just not it that day. The waiters also call out your name when the food is ready and they only have 1 bathroom. It was good but I wouldn't get it again. The lattes are perfectly proportioned, with rich smooth espresso. The salads are unlike anything you've ever seen. Everything is organic, no need to ask. Food is an ART here. Holy crap, that was the freshest egg sandwich I've ever had! My BF and I stopped by for a late brunch. Luckily there's no such thing as late here, the menu is the same all day. He had the BLT, which he wasn't moved by. However, don't let this be a reflection of anything because he's a chef! Good Service and Smoothie I stopped in here for a smoothie around noon on a weekday. The place was packed! It's pretty big in back (lots of seating cafe-style) but narrow up front by the entrance and counter area. There were people in line to order, people in line to pick up drinks, and people in the seats, and people who worked there running around bringing plates of avocado toast and salads to people at tables. It was like a more brightly colored, more claustrophobic Starbucks. I must admit I was a little overwhelmed and I was convinced it was going to take forever to get my green peanut butter smoothie. It took about 10 minutes, which really isn't long in smoothie time, especially not in such a crowded place. I was really impressed by the service and the smoothie was pretty good. This is a sweet neighborhood coffee shop with a fun grilled cheese menu and all the baked goods you would expect. Including donuts from Dough, which are delicious. There are plenty of tables, all of them small, so it's good for studying. And there are outlets as well for convenience. One thing though, is that the ventilation is not tremendous, so the place smells strongly of bacon any time they make some. That can be good or bad depending on your taste. read more

I love this place! Their coffee is excellent--they have not only nitro cold brew, but several types of nitro tea and other things on draft, which are all a real treat. The staff is friendly and they move the line quickly so it doesn't add to my commute in the morning. I've never ordered food or hot drinks so I can't speak to that, however any of the coffees/teas on draft come out so quickly--sometimes even before I finish walking from the register to the spot where you get your coffee. The station with straws and lids and milk and all that is always neat and easy to use, and it's on a corner so it does not get too crowded. If I had one complaint, it would be that they only have domed kids for their iced coffee, which result in my spilling coffee all over myself nearly every day on my bicycle commute. Obviously it has not stopped me structuring my mornings around getting coffee there most days, but I have been considering trying to find my own kids that will work with their cups so that I don't walk around smelling like coffee all day. read more

(Although a lot of their items don't appear on the menu, but are posted on sheets of paper stuck randomly on the walls, which can be a bit confusing.) The main issue is the ventilation system, or lack thereof. It seems like there is CONSTANTLY smoke coming from the kitchen area and nowhere for it to go. The back room would be a perfectly place to sit and chat with friends or do work, if it weren't for the fact that the air literally stings your eyes and sets off coughing fits. Wow the selections, you'll be reading the menu for a little while so start before you approach the ordering area! I had the bowl with chickpeas, sweet potatoes, spicy hummus, fresh and gooey goat cheese, greens, and adorned with a watermelon radish. It was so tasty and healthy, thank you for infusing my day with this wonderous pleasure! Also had an almond milk cappuccino, which was enjoyable, a bit cold for my preference but a lovely taste. The atmosphere is okay - a little smokey inside as the kitchen is in the same room as most of the dining area, but there's an outside area and a back room to choose from as well. It's not cheap but it's not crazy expensive. Unless you get something small (like a biscuit sandwich), expect to play like $15-20. This has become the nastiest place ever! I don't usually write reviews but I couldn't help myself here. I used to order delivery from here often and honestly they fell off. I thought I'd give them another shot and what do you know it was the worst experience ever!!! Maybe going here to eat is a better option but delivery is HORRIBLE! Everything comes cold, not properly prepared, and just tasting disgusting! No seasoning, bland, soggy, missing items. What a disappointment I had this afternoon with my Grilled BLT. Couldn't even eat it after I fixed it at home since the bacon was straight up cardboard. Came with missing tomato and just a slab of bacon between to pieces of bread with Mayo. What a disappointment as the pics of the sandwich on here actually looked amazing! To bad. I really like this restaurant. The food and drink are great -- I usually get the chickpea and sweet potato bowl -- and the staff is usually very friendly. It can get tight, but you can almost always find a seat. The only reason I can't give them five stars and the reason I don't stop in more often are their prices. Yes, it's Brooklyn and they claim to use high quality ingredients, but I just can't get behind $22+ for a grain bowl, coffee and tip. Maybe I need to adjust my expectations or start ordering pastries, but until then, this cafe is reserved for special occasions. read more

Had the maple, bacon oatmeal and a cup a coffee. The oatmeal came with bacon on top. Bacon was perfect. Oatmeal also perfect. Hard to find oatmeal with the right consistency. This is a fantastic cafe. The rose petal latte is to die for. I had the prosciutto, avocado, poached egg croissant which was delightful. They have an extensive menu and a great collection of hot sauce too. My only criticism is that both times I've been in here the music on the stereo has been atrocious 2000s-era "alternative." It clashes with the rest of the atmosphere and undercuts their otherwise great vibe. read more
