On our last day in Avalon we decided to check this place out for breakfast before making our way to our catamaran back to Long Beach. We had passed by it the day prior around lunch time, but we weren't feeling sandwiches that particular afternoon. We decided we'd come for breakfast the next day and we are so happy we did! Ordering & payment is taken at the counter and then you grab a seat of your choice either inside or outside. The inside was very well decorated for the upcoming festive season and it had a very warm, cozy appeal that made me feel like I was in Paris. We ate here three times for a couple of reasons, really good food and portions and friendly courteous staff, they also have my new favorite beer on tap the Mago larger beer. Try it you won't be disappointed. Now for the food, their Cubano Sandwich is one of the best I've ever had and I've had a lot, the roast pork was juicy, the jam cheese and pickles were on point, nothing overpowered the pork and it all melded perfectly, the small salad that accompanied it was perfect as well. My partner had the half soup:sandwich special and she was more than just happy with her choices of tomato Basil soup and Bbq pork sandwich, next day we had potatoes leek soup which was thick yet light and full of flavor and the chicken Caesar salad which was really good and humongous !! We will have left overs for at least 2days. Loved this little gem on Catalina! We had every breakfast and lunch here and were never disappointed! They have a great selection of Smoothies, Juices, Sandwiches, Salads, and Avocado Toasts! Plus Sabrina is the sweetest most down to earth (and hard working!) person who greeted us each day like we were family. We enjoyed the BBQ Chicken Panini and the pulled Pork Panini. The turkey sandwich was our favorite though! We also loved their avocado toast for breakfast (we added eggs, goat cheese, ham, and sprouts). They also had a great selection of grab and go snacks and drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic). Loved that they had La Colombe draft lattes and Justin's Peanut butter cups. While it is not 100% healthy (it's hard to do that on an island where there is little to no organic food supply!), it's much healthier than any of the other spots on the island by far! There is an adorable outdoor patio to sit on and there is sometimes live music too making it a fun spot to kick back for a few hours and relax on island time. I thought that it was pretty good and made for a nice, light start to the day. My friends ordered the Cubano ($12), Street Corn Salad ($11), and Savory Avo Toast ($10). We all enjoyed our food. My only complaints are that the cashier could have been friendlier. She didn't really welcome us when we walked in and when we asked questions about the menu she seemed reluctant to answer them. Spent my the weekend in Catalina for my birthday. I ate at the cafe 3 times while here. Because I am celiac, I order with the gluten free bread. First two times were great, avocado toast was delicious. Daughter loved the smoothie bowls. Cute little cafe with fresh foods. But the third time I ordered, I didn't think to inspect my bread because of previous times. I should have inspected. I ate about 3 bites before I realized the bread was different. It was sourdough. I immediately went back, and the girl running the cash register went to the back, then came back to tell me they mixed up my bread. She wasn't sure what to do, and offered to make me a new sandwich. Which wouldn't work because I knew I was probably going to be vomiting soon. The manager did come and refund our whole order, and offered to reimburse me if I could find activated charcoal (may help with gluten ingestion) but it being a small island, there wasn't any. Luckily I made it home before I got sick, but being glutened on my actual birthday was not my plan. Being in pain today, and feeling miserable was definitely not my plan. Please, please educate the servers, people preparing food, anyone who works there about celiac, or allergies and to be a little more careful when preparing food for someone who listed an allergy. The food is good, the staff is nice, the manager was great. It's just unfortunate this happened. read more
