This place was delicious. I stopped in and got the cubano sandwich. The meat was tender and full of flavor. I topped the sandwich off with balsamic vinegar and this was amazing with the buttered bread. Service was extremely friendly and the only regret that I have is that I threw out my to go box on accident. Overall, I would give cafe metropole a 4/5. My only concern was that they didn't serve most food items til 11am read more

We arrived in Catalina and headed straight here as we were staying at the Bellanca. We shared the Cubano and the Gyro. Both were satisfying. I personally loved the Cubano as the pork was juicy, just the right amount of mustard and pickles. My husband loved the Gyro. It was fresh, soft pita and very good as well. We enjoyed a beer and a split. Our total bill was $50. Our waitress even searched us out as we were trying to find a shaded area for lunch. read more

It was a rainy day and we were hungry for some lunch. Luckily we walked to this charming place down the street from our hotel. Cafe Metropole is my kind of place because of high quality ingredients and delicious meals! Their customer service was great too! I ordered the CB&A sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was so good! My husband got the Cuban sandwich and I had a bite... it was delicious! I love a good sandwich and this place definitely did a wonderful job. I'm definitely coming back here when we visit Catalina again! P.S. Thank you so much for having gluten-free bread available for all of your sandwiches! I tried the chickpea salad and it was just OK. I love everything about it it just needed some seasoning so I added some pepper and that did the trick. Food was decent service was good and he needs to eat outside was lovely. They have a limited umbrellas and it was hot the day we were there but we found a place to get some shade and they were accommodating to bring the food to us where we were. read more

Always tasty and fresh. I like to pick up a sandwich to take back with me on the boat to Long Beach. It's just good food done to order with quick friendly service. The pesto is good to and you are golden whether you get a hot or cold sandwich. Good coffee also. Just all around good stuff. Give it a try! read more

I LOVE this place so much that I actually came back two days in a row for the PB&A smoothie bowl. The toppings are fresh and sweet and decorated beautifully. The interior is super nice and they also have an outdoor patio that's also beautiful when the sun is out. I loved the staff there and everyone was extremely sweet to us. Perfect spot for lunch & a smoothie. Tucked away on a side street close to the main harbor, a quick and relatively affordable healthy lunch spot. Service was friendly and quick. I had the pina colada smoothie and it was one of the best smoothies I've had. Good Greek salad. Added chicken and they gave a generous portion. Sat on the patio during lunch time and there was live music. Great experience! read more

It's so easy to get bogged down by unhealthy food when I'm on vacation but seeing Cafe Metropole's sign as I walked from my hotel to do some sightseeing was a breath of fresh air. I liked my avocado toast because it was seasoned with just salt and pepper but was filling, and fueled my final day on the island. I decided to pass on the free donuts and coffee at my hotel in favor of something healthier and it was worth it. Even though I paid $6.50 for something I could have probably made myself at home, since I was on vacay mode I didn't mind paying a little extra for the convenience and enjoyed the healthy fix. The cashier was polite and the shop is clean with multiple tables. For fresh juice lovers, they have a large menu on the left of the cash register on the wall when you walk in and juices start at around $9. read more

I'm sooo bummed I didn't try this place till the day we were leaving. Came here Sunday morning on the yelp page they say they are open at 9am but that's not the case they didn't open till 11 and I kinda bummed. Anyways I grabbed food to go since our boat was leaving. I ended up ordered the chicken pita with sweet potato fries. It was soooo good, the chicken and pita overall was super flavorful not to mention the sweet potato fries were sooo good!!! It's a total gem to Avalon, super healthy food, they have fresh juices which unfortunately I didn't get to try but would try again. I think this place has to be the best place to eat on the Island. The tropical mango smoothie was delicious and refreshing after a slightly choppy ferry ride to the island. They put their breakfast burrito on a panini press so it makes the outside crispy without any of the grease from a stovetop. The most shit meal in my whole 3 week stay in Socal. $20 for ONE! slice of avocado toast and a tasteless small smoothie. Honestly though WHAT the actual F***. I know things in Catalina are more expensive .. I get that it's a tourist spot and its an island but throughout my stay there I had filling and nice meals and this was just plain dog shit. The service of the people in the cafe .. I mean, to be honest, I don't know what was worse that or the food ... its a solid tie. The smoothie was some type of Pina colada smoothie ... it tasted like ice with a bit of pineapple juice ... not sweet, with barely any flavor. This and one slice of avocado toast 20$ ... needless to say I was starving .... pissed, disappointed, and did I mention starving? I wouldn't eat here again when visiting Catalina even if you paid me to.. I mean you can't have shit service, shit food AND have it be expensive. But you guys nailed that. I have to give you one star if not I would give you negative stars. The worst meal in my whole 3 week stay. An unforgettable meal. Just go somewhere else .. seriously anywhere else I hope the girls inside get whatever they have stuck up their asses surgical removed because it must be causing them a lot of pain they can't even smile and it hurts to answer simple questions. Meh. I read that this cafe is the "best" healthy food on the island, so popped in for lunch. Kudos to the girl working for checking on ingredients for me; that is good customer service! And I appreciated that she gave me a timeline (20 min or so) until my food would be ready so I wasn't wondering. I spent the time wandering, and was still back to score a table before my sandwich was brought out. I had the turkey sandwich. Honestly, it was mediocre at best. The avocado and sprouts were a nice touch, but the turkey was relatively flavorless. The multigrain organic bread was sweet and...fluffy. Dave's Killer Bread would be a better choice! The side salad was a nice touch. I just felt that for the price, the time spent waiting, and the anticipation based on previous reviews that it was just a meh experience. I went to Von's and bought groceries so I can just make my own for the next few days. read more

Melissa and staff did a huge favor and helped me setup my girlfriends birthday perfectly. We had a table right in front of live music for lunch, and everyone working helped so much. The food was spectacular and even had some beers and white claws to continue our fun. Will come back for the chicken bacon panini and the bbq chicken sweet potato fries. I couldn't decide from the regular menu what to order because everything looked good. I then noticed there were having 2 specials of the day. I ordered the 2 turkey sliders with bacon and chiptole mayo. It was totally worth it. The sliders came with a side of sweet potato fries. The sliders were really good and the cheese was so melted. The sandwich was nice and warm. The ambiance was really nice and they have seating outside. The cashier was the server and she was really nice. She gave us tips on what the popular items are and took our food where we were seating. Overall, the food is delicious and the place was clean. To start off, the cafe itself has a very nice vibe to it. The environment is welcoming, great outdoor seating options with a shaded patio in the rear. Pros: -Staff was quick to take my order and get the line moving along however that's where the efficiency stopped. -Great Seating -green juice was pretty refreshing Cons: -Although the staff were quick to take my order the latter actually receiving the food took forever, plus the name on my order was incorrect. They may have been calling out the wrong name for 10-15 mins? I came to check in several times the brunette staff member told me it will be called out. (I order a cb&a) I believe that's what the sandwich is called. All in all their was a miscommunication between the cashier and I, that result in my sandwich being cold. -Prices here are on the higher end, especially for a small cafe. You are paying restaurant prices here so do be aware, I totally understand the overhead is more expensive on a small island. However Catalina receives nearly 1 million tourists per year not to mention the 4000+ locals who live there. I think they can give room on the pricing structure of the menu but that's just my two cents. If I came back I'd have to skip out on this place, at least for food, the green drink on the other hand was fantastic. read more

I'm a huge fan of Caprese sandwiches, and the one at Café Metropole was just ok. They were creative in having yellow tomato instead of red, but it just wasn't all that flavorful. Some/more pesto would be good, as would prosciutto. The salad served with the sandwich was fine. My friend got a sandwich with added on avocado (upcharge). Luckily we were eating there because the kitchen didn't add avocado. The seating area at the Metropole is nice, with umbrellas to block the bright sun. read more

Great food, service, and vibe!! My boyfriend and I split a smoothie bowl and the three-cheese panini and we loved the food! The inside of the café is very cute & picture-worthy. One downside is that the food is a little pricey for what it's worth. It is not unbelievably over-priced, but our total came out to $32 for just the panini and smoothie bowl plus a small tip which was a little much. I do recommend this place to friends, family, and anyone traveling to Avalon, but keep in mind that this is one of the restaurants that is a little pricey for breakfast/brunch/lunch items! read more

Ate here twice while on vacation. The food is super fresh and tasty. The first time I ordered a Three Cheese Hot Sandwich which was so yummy and even came with a mini salad and the salad dressing was delicious! The second time I ordered a Classic Caesar Salad and it was again amazing. The salad was so fresh and the dressing was really good. The croutons tasted a little weird, but that may have just been me. We enjoyed our experience when we went in for some avocado toast & juice . It was recommended to us by a "local man" who toured us around that day . The barista was very friendly and the food was very good . We made plans to return the next day for another meal to end our vacation off . The barista at the front counter said they would be open at 9AM for breakfast and there was no sign/notice of being closed . Clearly she did not know what she was talking about considering we waited outside for 30 minutes for them to open . She should have let us know they would be closed and not feed us incorrect information . Wasted almost an hour of our time & watched several groups walk by and look around confused . We got coffee and continued to look around and wait , then left when someone explained to us they close sporadically & recommended us to eat at the toyon grille instead . read more

The food was delicious but pricey. Unfortunately, the service was lacking; the staff were a bit rude and didn't clear the plates from the surrounding tables. The drinks had quirky names inspired by well-known Catalina items, but the staff seemed annoyed when I mispronounced them, which made us feel uncomfortable. The ambiance was beautiful and cozy, except for the plates left on the tables. They didn't say goodbye to us when we left, even though we did. It felt like we were providing better customer service as customers than they were as cashiers, which was odd. Despite this, I would return for the stuffed avocado, which was great, as well as the Mediterranean salad and their pressed juices. Both times we went back up to the bar to ask about the food and we were told it was coming. Drinks were okay, expensive for what they are. Overall, what they present online is not reflective of the actual experience here, and it is still very expensive. I probably wouldn't prioritize coming here again.
