I have been here so many times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, on this visit I was disappointed in my meal. I ordered the house salad with Ahi Tuna. The tuna was seared perfectly, sliced thin but less than adequate for $8. The salad had a ton of greens 4 thin sliced tomatoes and diced cucumbers. It was hard to taste the cucumber as there were so small. That's it. It was tasteless. Perhaps I should have inquired about the salad as it didn't meet my expectations. Next time I will order one of the specialty salads on the menu. Service was great as usual from from of the house with the hostess to our server. But I wish the server had recommended I stay with one of the other salads. read more

We stopped by for takeout pastries as we thought they were good. We bought 1 or 2 of everything for about $50 but thought all would taste great. The $2.50 macaroons were imported from France but were extremely sweet unlike European pastries. No go. The chocolate eclair's were sweet but had a bitter taste and weren't acceptable. The almond pastries had chocolate inside and tasted off like a cooler oder. Other varieties we tasted were not to par and had that refrigerator oder taste. The closest thing to tasty were the lemon pies but they were extremely sweet. I definitely will not make this error again!!! read more

A few weeks ago two friends and I visited Cafe Monte again after a long time away. It was a delight! Our server, Samantha, was very knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was beautiful and delicious. We started by sharing the short rib poutine, followed by the basil pistou penne with chicken, and 2 crepes--- one with shrimp and artichokes and the other with lobster and crabmeat. We followed this up with a perfect creme brulee and a fluffy coconut cream cake. Being at Cafe Monte was a great experience, and we'll be back soon! read more

One of the best brunch spots in Charlotte! My favorite thing about this place (aside from the awesome French café vibes) is just how broad the brunch menu is. There's something on it for everyone--ranging from the basics to the fancy stuff. And that's something I don't often see at brunch spots--typically I find much more limited menus, and this really sets Cafe Monte apart. One word of caution--I did not feel at all comfortable with the indoor seating. Their Covid precautions may meet the technical letter of the law, but I'm really not sure. We went on a Sunday morning, and that place was PACKED. My wife and I felt very unsafe inside, and we could barely maintain a minimum of six feet of distance. I am surprised to write this as I had two experiences here in one week. One was pretty good although some issues, on a weekday for lunch and the other was horrific and on the weekend for brunch. In general though this inconsistency leads me to believe that this will not be a worthwhile experience for the future especially if what you want is brunch/breakfast food. Weekday lunch experience: Got a latte that was served in a big lovely mug, delicious! And then a Caesar salad with chicken. Pretty good. My colleague got a salad with Dressing on the side but they messed that up so she got a new salad. Total cost around 25. Good lunch but nothing to write home about. Weekend brunch experience: So of course more crowded but even so, not a good experience at all. First, the time to get our food was pretty long. The waitress stopped by 1-2 times and did not offer black pepper like they did at lunch the prior time. But mostly the food was just bad. Many people around us had the same experience too. I got the waffle and a side of poached eggs. Waffle over cooked, eggs way over cooked. My husband got the eggs Benedict which was cold and the eggs were over cooked. A big surprise to see this for both dishes since they pride themselves on egg dishes. The table next to us had the same issue as did the one across from us. Big problem! But even worse the great latte I had the last time was far worse. No big mug, much smaller portion and weak overall. After these two experiences I am sad to say i don't know how we can come back. A great French place in South Park neighborhood. I have been there twice ( brunch and dinner) and both times i had wonderful experiences. Funny thing, Restoration Hardware Restaurant is about two block down the street, why is it relevant? Well. They are known for very attentive service! Well, let me blow your mind! Café Monté service was as attentive and friendly as any these high end prestigious spots with multiple Michelin stars in their portfolio. Love love love their menu! Crepes for brunch is one of my favorites and guess what!? They have a great selections. I had chicken with mushrooms crepe! delizioso! Another thing, if you'd check their dinner assortment, oh boy! Visiting Charlotte for a few days. Wanted breakfast at an old go to... restaurant wasn't crowded and we did not have reservations. Hostess looked unhappy to be there. She said we could sit at the bar or a "side table" (again, quite a number of empty tables). We sat down and after about 5 minutes a young man came but and all but tossed two water glasses on the table and splashed two ounces of water in them and in us. We waited another fifteen minutes (again not crowded) for a server then just got up and left. No longer a go to when we are in town. Dining with family and friends at Cafe Monte for 20+ years and every lunch and dinner has always be the same consistent great food. The French Bistro decor is charming and reminds me of France. The service is excellent, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Weekends there is live music in the bar area. Everything from steak to crepes are beautifully prepared, perfectly seasoned and served hot. You can order a great hamburger or risotto and the quality will be the same. We love Cafe Monte and have introduced many friends to this wonderful restaurant in South Park that sits next to Whole Foods. Outside seating, dinner at the bar as well as a good size dining room with tables for two or large groups. I highly recommend Cafe Monte. You're going to love it, too! read more

I love this place. I've been here several times and each time has been great. We came in tonight for the all-you-can-eat mussels and as always they were great. We also had a couple of cocktails, the charcuterie board, the beignets, and coffee... yes we went all out lol. Everything was amazing. The food was good but the service here always takes first place. Our server tonight was Jennifer and she was soooo pleasant. She was upbeat and present and really took care of us tonight. We just had dinner here for our first time in awhile. We're often brunch goers, but for my birthday we came for dinner! My husband and I started at the bar with a drink, and moved to our table for dinner. We were so lucky to have Iris as our server tonight. She started with a small heartbreak (no escargot!), but quickly agreed to surprise us with another appetizer. She brought out cheese fondue, which was a perfect complement to my French onion soup! We chatted with her about our recent wedding and she told us she was newly engaged! We enjoyed hearing her story and talking to her about ours. We both love causal conversation with others at dinner and Iris was such a pleasure and really made our night at Cafe Monte wonderful! The beef bourguignon was cooked to perfection, and the blackened swordfish was delicious, though not the same as I remembered it from having it in years prior. The only reason I didn't provide them with 5stars is because it's ridiculous to charge $5 for a scoop of ice cream to accommodate a dish that is served hot and typically with ice cream in the perfect world (bread pudding). We were impressed with the staff upon arriving for our reservation and how nice they were and how quickly we were seated even though we were early. The 3 course meal plus a glass of wine went as follows: Salads: I had a tasty arugula salad with grilled peaches atop and my husband had a duck salad that he devoured Main course: I had the scallop risotto and my hubby had the sword fish both were extremely tasty. Yes, Sunday brunch on a sunny day is going to be busy and we were waiting for every one of the twenty minutes that the hostess said it would be. No fault there. We started off with a plate of beignets, which had the required heavy dusting of powdered sugar and also a small pot of strawberry jam for dipping/scraping. Very hot and very tasty. A nice starter while you look over the menu. For mains, we each went with omelets or the crabcake benedict. Each was a good portion with plenty of filling and lots of hollandaise on the benedict. The hashbrown potato casserole was very yummt and the omelets also came with a small bowl of fresh fruit - blackberries and blueberries and such. Nice. Very good coffee. Cappuccino was very good. Upon entering Cafe Monte, I liked the atmosphere. There's a cute French vibe that is fitting and welcoming. The waffle was perfect. Fluffy and tasty and the banana flambé sauce added a sweet touch. Bacon. That's enough said right? Lol the bacon was good, you could taste the hardwood smoke. I think the smoked salmon crossaint was good, I could've used more of the crème fraiche. It got loss with the amount of smoked salmon (bonus points for being smoked in house) and cucumbers but still pretty tasty. The beignets would be perfect with a cappuccino! I can never say enough amazing things about this place. First if you haven't been here for breakfast or brunch it's a must. Everything from the bloody Mary's, to lattes are wonderful and yes they have even oat milk now. Let me say all the portions are huge. The fries when they season them with the herbs are delicious. I absolutely love eggs Benedict but for some reason I did not order them. Instead I ordered a farmers omelette and while it was good I wish I ordered the eggs Benedict. I went back and ordered one of the signature pizzas and I probably won't do that again. My friend like her pizza but my pizza benchmark is high.. I typically reserve five stars for stuff that is outrageously exceptional. These guys are excellent at what they do. I showed up at 12:15 and sat at the bar. The people behind the gorgeously designed French accent bar (not the people, just the design) are very friendly they are also very courteous. There is also a pastry display case where you can see some items to carry out for dessert. As others have mentioned, the decor and design is so much like something you might find in Paris. (Down to the font on the menus and on the posters on the walls, and menus!) Everything felt very good, the service was friendly, accommodating and attentive. Since this is a Thursday, at lunch, I arrived during a less busy time. I have been here for brunch on a Sat and it was very busy but service was perfect. It's hard to expect perfect attention during the busiest times of the day. Lunch was a perfect time to get all the attention one could ever want. They have outdoor seating and take carry out orders. Baby! Listen to me....... I have never experienced a French restaurant or authentic cuisine growing up. When I decided to celebrate my birthday in CLT this year I had chosen another restaurant originally for brunch but found out they were closed and I'm glad I found this place instead. When I tell you everything on the menu had me mouth watering I do not lie! What caught my eye was the French toast and the lobster crepe which is their infamous dish! It was ABSOLUTELY the best thing I have ever tasted Me and my friends ordered different items but all of our dishes were amazing! We got the Beignets to start and they had me in a food coma. Like I'm still thinking about them! The food was fresh and hot. Our server was great and our experience was wonderful. I love the look and feel of it actually resembling a bistro in Paris. There was a 30 minute wait but I don't blame them because the food and atmosphere speak for themselves! They were packed and had just opened 45 minutes prior to us getting there. I've been wanting to try Cafe Monte for some time now. I found myself close by around lunch time the other day, so I decided to stop in. I was seated immediately and my server promptly came by to bring a menu and take my drink order. Honestly, I was a bit under-whelmed by the menu. I was really hoping for some really nice French dishes beyond just crepes and quiche. The menu options were ok but not outstanding. So, I decided to go with the Chicken And Wild Mushroom Crepes in madeira creme ($14). I really wanted to try the pommes frites to see if they are as good as I have heard, but I wasn't really that hungry and my server told me the dish I ordered was pretty large. So, when she brought my plate out, I was glad I skipped the fries on this visit. The crepes were cooked perfectly and smothered with delicious creamy chicken & mushrooms. I would order this dish again. When I first walked into the restaurant, I had noticed a counter with all sorts of yummy looking pastries, so I decided to order a coconut macaroon to go. Kind of between 3 and 4 stars for me, service was ok, my food was great, BF's not so much. Cafe Monte is a great brunch spot when down in South Park. It works great when one of us wants breakfast (he always does) and the other is ready for lunch at 2:00. The atmosphere is cute and French of course but not the point where it feels uncomfortable or snoody. Entering the restaurant I was greeted by two hosts and promptly seated. It was a mimosa kind of day so my bf and I both ordered one. Mimosas at Monte are not like they are everywhere else, here you'll enjoy a glass of sparkly with a splash of OJ. We thought this was a fluke on our first visit, nope, second visit confirmed that they do a boozy mimosa (not complaining about it). Now for the food. I ordered the short rib sandwich with caramelized onions. Loved everything about it and would order again and again. BF ordered the quiche Lorraine. Over cooked, the top of the quiche actually gave off the burnt taste and was unpleasant which kind of ruined his meal. Looking at the picture now, I'm kind of surprised they actually sent it out. This is a very beautiful place! The decor is cute and french. The staff's attire is so professional. Today I had the french country breakfast with potato croquettes. Wow that potato croquette was delicious. The breakfast was delicious and Javier was my server. He was totally wonderful. I came here about 9:30-10 am and I feel like they really want you to have a reservation. I did get sat with out one, however they do get very busy. My hubby and I brought parents and a cousin here for an early Sunday breakfast. We did not make a reservation but were seated within 5 minutes around 9:10am. We had a seat in the back which was nice for people watching and it was away from the door on a chilly day. I ordered a latte with almond milk and was disappointed to learn there were no dairy-free milk options. I opted to stick with water. My husband had a hot chocolate and OJ and seemed to enjoy both but I took a sip and personally felt his hot chocolate tasted like Hershey's syrup that was melted and mixed with water and milk. I ordered two golden crepes but after reading reviews online added in the regular vanilla yogurt, berry and granola parfait without yogurt. I really just wanted a small cup of Greek yogurt but that was not an option. The berry vanilla option was fine and supplemented the very small portioned crepes. I personally think both were over-priced at $8 each and wouldn't rush back for breakfast. The crepes were served cold which didn't help. Everyone else really enjoyed their meals and the breakfast platters were huge. My MIL ordered the GF Belgian waffle and said it was good but was cold and not crispy. Our server was nice and efficient. It wasn't my favorite and I won't be rushing back for breakfast but I would try them for dinner. read more

For the amount of times I have been here, I have only tried one thing on the menu (it is so good that I just keep ordering it time and time again) - the quiche! The food is great, and the ambiance is adorable. The only reason that I am not giving it 5 stars is the service. I made reservations on Janauary 19 for 11 people for Feb 21 at 1pm. I called on Friday the 17th of FEb to check on the time again. I was told I didnt have reservations and they could book me at 3:30 on that day. I explained that I did make them and they were for one o'clock. We have sat at the bar and sampled small plates several times so we were looking forward to our dinner in the dining room. Our server was fantastic, as were the drinks and dessert. The Brie appetizer was not warm and hard. We had it sent back for a warm up, but it was unsuccessful. To our servers credit she took it off our bill. Of the 4 entrees: 3 were great, the salmon, duck confit, and one of the chicken crepes. Unfortunately the other chicken crepe was served cold and had to be sent back, again unsuccessfully. Our server also had that entree removed from the bill as one guest of the four basically did not have dinner.
