visiting san antonio for a wedding and the river walk was the most recommended area to visit. We decided on Cafe Ole as it was one of the first places to eat once we got there and saw a good amount of people. Plus they have 60oz margaritas! Who doesn't love margaritas!! The margarita was just okay unfortunately. It was hugeeee but to split a 60oz margarita with one other person and to still not feel a little giggly was a disappointment. I was excited to come to this restaurant for some authentic Mexican food. It was anything but that. We ordered a guacamole - wasn't made from scratch - it was as though they opened a container, scooped it out and gave it to us. It did not taste good at all. Worst guacamole I've ever had. We were also disappointed to how they placed something on the bottom of the small bowl to make it look like you got more. Then we ordered the jalapeño poppers. They weren't bad, but again, you can tell they just opened a package and warmed them up. Salsa wasn't horrible. Then we thought, Ok, the food isn't great. How about a solid margarita? I ordered the most expensive option, and my friend ordered something different. Both were sugary pre-made mixes vs something fresh squeezed. My Aunt and Uncle were coming into town, this was their first time in San Antonio. We went to Cafe Olé. All of our first time here. I wanted my Aunt and Uncle to see the River Walk and to get some Tex-Mex Cuisine. I ordered the Combination Numero Dos (One Chicken Enchilada, Crispy Chicken Taco, and a Chicken Chalupa.) My enchilada had salsa verde and it was AMAZING. I also loved my chalupa. Everyone was nice in Cafe Olé. Funny while I was eating my chalupa some of it fell on the floor. We came to Cafe Ole and Agave Bar along the Riverwalk for dinner on a Tuesday night. We were immediately seated by the pleasant host, but took several minutes for waitstaff to show up so they may have been short staffed. Our waiter was also friendly & pleasant. There are colored lights lit throughout the restaurant which give it an upbeat environment. There is an extensive alcohol menu featuring wine, beer, mixed drinks & of course, tequila. We ordered the street corn on the cob for an appetizer that was really good, the corn was very sweet! I ordered the cheese enchiladas because I am vegetarian and they were also really good in my opinion. Note to other vegetarians: I think the beans are cooked with some sort of smoked ham. read more

Not posting any pictures here. We had lots of family in town and took them here, we really liked it and had been here many times. We spent a lot of money here that day like most other times we come. Service is sub par but fine. Food is decent and like the location . We left a bag there with some really important items totaling over 100 dollars. We were sat in the back no one else was even back there with us. Called the restaurant to let them know we needed to come back and pick it up and they denied seeing it even though there are supposedly. Cameras in there. Spoke to managers and have gotten no headway and they have indicated they are not responsible anyway. Which I suppose is true. If you go here dont leave anything behind it will not be returned. The only thing I liked was the chips and salsa and the fact the salsa was the spiciest table salsa Ive ever had. The margarita was diabetes in a cup. And the guacamole we got was half lettuce?! Wtf. The top was all avocado, barely even a full one and then lettuce at the bottom? $50... for 2 cups of simple syrup and a half cup of guac/lettuce. You're paying the same price as the nice restaurants you need reservations for that are actually worth your money and have somewhat good quality food, this is not it. If you didn't make your reservation at the nice place across the street, go elsewhere. This is a waste of money. All I can say is I wish I could give zero stars. I have never written a review in my life but this was, hands down, the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. First, after multiple requests we were not provided with silverware, plates, or chips and salsa (that was complimentary at every other table). Once the food came, we were not provided with the tortillas to go with the fajitas so, while the rest of the table finished their meal, I had to sit and watch them eat. After the waitress walked directly past me without stopping when I flagged her down, we had to get up and seek out another waitress to get us the necessities we repeatedly requested. To top it off, once the chips came there was a spider fried onto the chip right on top of the basket (as pictured). Obviously after seeing the spider none at the table wanted to eat any of our food. When we finally were able to speak to a manager and all that we were offered was a 10% military discount and to take off the fajitas that were not eaten. They took our card without giving us a receipt and upon review of this receipt after payment, we noticed that they charged us for the items that they said would be removed. Another hour later, we ordered food I had the Shrimp cocktail and she ordered Flautas, the food took a very very long time to come out when we got the food I was definitely not impressed, the cocktail said had no flavor, and she didn't really like her food either pretty dull. We visited as a party of 4 and were seated immediately. The salsa has a kick and is really good. This is where the good ends. It took a lot time for someone to come over and ask us for our drink order. We could tell we wouldn't see her again for a while so we asked if we could just order food right then. She said no and took just our drink order and walked away. Our server was VERY confused. My husband asked for a Moscow Mule and she said she didn't have anything from Russia. He did end up getting a Mule but the handle broke. I ordered a Purple Rain and it came in a plastic cup. It was very watered down. I asked about a signature margarita and got one in another plastic cup rimmed in red candy that stained everything it touched...also very low alcohol content. Food was right at average. We ordered shrimp tacos that were bland and steak tacos that were basic. The mariachi band was cool but charge $20 to play a song for you. There is a nice view of the Riverwalk and lots of seating but be prepared to be underwhelmed. read more

This was the first place we at after checking into our hotels, the O'Brien and Menger (only 2 blocks away). How can you go to the San Antonio and not eat on the Riverwalk? Cafe Ole is located amongst one of the busiest and most exciting places on the Riverwalk. We were seated rather quickly and though our waiter seemed overwhelmed, he continued to check in and was very apologetic. I was a little grossed out by the large quantity of hair on his sweater; it looked like animal hair. Working at a restaurant, I don't think it's acceptable to have this appearance regardless of what type of hair it was. Anywho, the food and drinks were excellent. My strawberry margarita was made just right with the perfect blend of strawberry puree, I wish I had I ordered a larger one. I ordered the steak fajitas, and they were excellent. When I went to pick up up the meat with a fork, it literally began to fall apart---that's how tender it was! And the flavor was amazing, I started eating the meat without any of the dressings or sides. Beware of the rice; I love spicy stuff but this rice was so spicy I couldn't even taste it. Cafe Ole is my favorite place for Tex-Mex on the river walk. The enchiladas verdes are my favorite and the refried beans are the best I've ever had...anywhere!!
