Went here this morning (a Friday) for breakfast. Waited well over an hour after placing our order without any food or any explanation from the waitstaff about what was taking so long. The table next to the one we were seated at was empty and had the remains of someone else's breakfast (And when I say this, I mean plates with the half-eaten remains of two meals. Had they been there any longer, I'm certain they would have started attracting flies.) on it the entire time we were sitting there waiting. No service. No explanation. We were completely ignored and ended up leaving both hungry and extremely annoyed. As I mentioned above, this was a Friday morning, the restaurant was about 2/3rds full, so I pity anyone going there on a busy weekend morning for a brunch. Avoid at all costs. read more

If you go here it is great for your basic omelets, eggs, home fries and pancakes. The corned beef hash seems out of a can as well as the cheese sauce on their special items, so if you expect restaurant made don't order those items. The french toast is plain no vanilla or cinnamon flavors added. I was there with a foodie this morning and he expects restaurants to add flair with spices and flavors so he wished we had made breakfast at home. But we got a table fast and the portions are large so I will be back but will get the yummy omelets and home fries. read more

What a wonderful hidden gem this place is! We spent the night in Foxboro after shopping the previous day at the Wrentham Outlets and wanted a home cooked family style breakfast place to start the day. I asked Siri for breakfast options and Café on the Common was the first one to come up. Cozy, country themed décor, comfortable booths and tantalizing aromas await you upon entering. It was about 9:30 on a Monday morning so we had missed the rush and were treated to a wonderful, unhurried experience. Our waitress was friendly and prompt with our coffee and tea, respectively, and gave us a few minutes to peruse the multiplicity of options. We wanted breakfast and breakfast we had! Sweet Italian sausage and eggs for me, and banana, strawberry, blueberry waffles for my GF. Each item cooked perfectly and exactly as advertised. Can't wait to return on our next shopping or Patriots outing and check out some of the other delectable offerings! Come at an off-peak time if possible and have a truly special - and inexpensive - dining experience. Take advantage of the convenient 2 hour street parking as well. We've been here a few times. Generally decent ( nothing fancy nothing lousy) but already being on the high end of breakfast places, it should be so much better both in quality and service. We recently placed a takeout order that required an extra $1 or so per meal for the side of hash with each one. For whatever reason the hash was forgotten. We turned around and went in to fix the situation and were told we were charged for the order correctly without the hash. No problem, a mistake somewhere, so we politely asked if we could pay the difference and call it a day. "No!", was the answer. "You'll have to pay the full side price ( $15 and change! Instead of the $3) though you are just correcting our mistake". Are you kidding me? We were looking for them to honor the original order with ZERO discounts and no problems. They couldn't do that? Again, and this can't be stated enough, the prices are already amongst the highest in town, you would think the service would match. The food isn't good enough to justify both the cost and service. read more

We've been to Cafe on the Common many times. The food is consistently good. I gave it 4 stars but it's really somewhere between 3 and 4 stars; I gave it the benefit of the doubt. This is out go to breakfast place. The food is good, the service is great. The wait staff is always excellent and very attentive I've tried many of the things on the menu. My personal favorite is the Farmer's Skillet; eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes...very nice breakfast dish. My wife's favorite is the veggie omelet and it never disappoints. Prices and very reasonable. Never once have I disliked one of their meals. Our first time here and while the food was decent the service was definitely lacking. We did come in about 1:45(they close at 3) and it seemed like everyone was done for the day. We were told to seat ourselves and so we did and it took at least 10-15 for anyone to even come over to us. I had some hash stuffers and my husband had a grilled cheese with onion rings and the food was fine, nothing outstanding. read more

Great small town cafe! Awesome omlets and homefries. Is very very busy on a weekend, so be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes, but worth it! Because they are busy, the staff can seem a bit chaotic and maybe not around as often, but you can always flag someone down to refill your coffee. Food is always good. Try for lunch too! read more

Food is great. Try the eggs benedict...I had the one with the steak tips it was super yummy. Food portions are large. Never had a bad food experience here and I have been going here forever. We were basically ignored by our waitress. My first set of silverware had hardened egg on it, and I had to wait 10 minutes and 2 requests to get a replacement. It took the server 10 minutes to bring our first cup of coffee, and we only received one refill, and only after we asked for it. The food was mediocre. We usually tip at least 20-25% for decent service, but for the first time in years we only tipped 15%, and frankly that was too much, but I couldn't bring myself to tip less. A $60 breakfast for 4 with that level of service is not acceptable. To finish off our less-than great experience, we asked for a take home carton, and after waiting and waiting, we finally had to take our plate up to the counter to get the carton, only to observe our waitress texting on her phone. We have eaten at the Common in the past and have liked it, but after this experience we will probably not be returning. Service is everything!!! read more

I live in Mansfield and have dined at Cafe on the Common more times than I can count. I've always had great food and exceptional service, until today. This restaurant closes at 3pm, and I arrived with two friends at 2:15. The restaurant was nearly empty, so we were seated and served very quickly, while being repeatedly reminded by our waitress that they close at 3. After we were given the check, we promptly paid and waited for our waitress to bring us a to-go box. By this time, it was about 3:10. In the tradition of nearly every restaurant, they will not let in any new customers after they close but will continue to serve the remaining customers. As we waited for the to-go box, the waitresses stood by the counter and stared at my friends and I, and one waitress proceeded to yell across the restaurant, "Okay, time to get going ladies." I was appalled by this disrespect and extremely poor service. I am disappointed in the staff of Cafe on the Common for their apparent lack of appreciation for their customers. read more

I grew up in Mansfield with everyone raving about cafe on the common. I never agreed with them but would go along for the company. Today I needed take out for breakfast simply because I have no food at the house and a 12 hour day at the office ahead of me . I ordered a very simple : 2 eggs, bacon and home fries as well as a side of broccoli. Well when I received the order the hah browns were burnt to a crisp, greasy shell. The broccoli (which I assumed would be fresh broccoli) was frozen and wet and soggy , eggs were actually cooked correctly for a take out order and the bacon was fine . Overall, a disappointing meal for an expensive price just because if it's "word of mouth reputation" I won't be coming here again honesty, it's actually easier to cook fresh broccoli. When I asked if they made loaded hash browns they said no, I mean how hard is it to put cheese and bacon on TOP of the hash browns ?? Also, when will take out be delivered in anything besides styrofoam ?!? It is so terrible to serve food in such a toxic product, considering it's a $13 dollar breakfast ... if you're a townie keep doing your thing but if you are a real quality breakfast person, go over to goochies cafe in plainville. read more

I have tried Cafe on the Common several times. Hoping for it to get better, but it doesn't. The food has never been better than mediocre. I went again this week since I was in the area. It was the worst experience yet. I was with my elderly parent and we were told to sit anywhere. My parent has trouble walking so we saw an unoccupied booth very close to the door so we decided to sit there. We noticed a coffee mug and cream on the table so I asked a waitress if the customer had left. She wasn't sure but said it was ok for us to sit there. She took the coffee mug, etc away but did not clean the table. I asked but it was never done. (glad I carry wipes in my purse) It took a long time for a waitress to come over to take our order not because they were busy but because the waitresses were standing around gossiping about others. I could hear them clearly. A couple were flipping through the newspaper circulars, while the others continued to gossip... Anyway, after awhile the waitress came over and took our order. My parent had sausages and eggs. The sausages were grotesquely overcooked.I had poached eggs with corned beef. The eggs were sitting in a pool of water on top of the corned beef. The eggs were hard and there were egg shells every where. Needless to say, I didn't eat my meal. I would have said something to the waitress had she come back before my parent was finished. I decided I would not say anything at the time and would call when I have a chance. Another issue I have with the restaurant is the lack of cleanliness. The carpet in the dining room is horrendous. The bathroom was in need of a good cleaning. I'm sorry to write a bad review but as a business owner myself I find criticism a tool to make things better. I hope Cafe on the Common can improve.
