I am a huge fan of Ace's Pizza. There aren't many Detroit style pizza shops in NYC but Ace's is one of my go-to's. I think this is what Detroit pizza should taste like (haven't been to MI) but it's one of my favorite types of pizza besides classic NY or Sicilian. They have a variety of flavors and various sizes including personal to large. The prices are reasonable and portions are filling. I went on a busy Friday night for take out and the host was great. She got me set up and ready within 10 minutes. The shop was busy at 11pm to closing and everyone looked like they were having a good time. It's a bar pizza shop in the heart of Williamsburg. I came here and it was great. My niece wanted to try this place so we came. The service was amazing and the food was very delicious. We ordered two different pizzas, and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were delicious and I recommend them. The pizza, we ordered were the buffalo chicken and the burrata pizza both pizzas were really good. I liked that the dough was airy and had a nice texture. The buffalo chicken pizza had a good amount of chicken and had good flavor. I enjoyed this place very much, and the food was good. I really enjoyed the decor. They also have more than one size pizza which allowed me to taste more one kind of pizza. One of the employees was very nice and came to ask about our experience. Not too many corners have Detroit style pizza in New York and this is the spot to come to. Crust is crunching and soft in the right areas. Came to this place because our meal wasn't the best at another restaurant but this made my night. Of all the popular pizza places I've tried in NYC so far, Ace's is my favorite. They have plenty of topping combos, so everyone can find something they enjoy. The standout to me is the dough / crust of the square pizza, in that it is bready and chewy, but light with a nice crisp on the bottom. We tried the grandma pizza (pictured), as well as the pepperoni pie with hot honey and the mushroom pie. All were fantastic, though my favorite was the grandma for the delicious combination of the sauce, basil, and sausage. I'm usually not the biggest fan of pepperoni, but their cup style pieces with hot honey in it were enjoyable! I can't wait to come back and try more toppings. Unlike some of the other frequented spots in Brooklyn, Ace's has a good amount of both indoor and outdoor seating! We ordered ahead, so service was efficient. We had changed our mind last minute to try and eat in, but the staff were not able to accomodate the change so we took our food to a nearby outdoor public seating area. read more

The last thing on our Summer To-Do list was to eat at Ace's pizza! We made that dream come true on Saturday at 5pm. Made a reservation in case it became busy, but not sure we needed to. People are super friendly with a great vibe. Love the feeling of visiting my neighbor's basement in 1989. Our server recommended the wings and Greek Salad - went with a small one. Very much nostalgic vibes of a salad from the midwest. If you like that sort of thing, then delicious! She (server) strongly recommended the spicy boiiiii (correct spelling according to the check) with vodka sauce, which we had on a medium split with buffalo chicken. She was right - we should have done the whole thing as that one. Buffalo chicken was good, but oddly, felt a little too healthy. (Maybe it was the celery.) Ordered a medium pepperoni for the kids. It had hot honey on it, which we didn't order or want, but luckily the kids only complained a little. Interesting note, when the server looked at our food, she was surprised to see basil leaves on the spicy boiiii! I kind of like the "who knows what you're going to get" situation out of my neighbor's basement food. (Reminds me of Seinfeld with the rubber band in the soup - PACO!) A note on quantity - we could probably have eaten another 2 medium pizzas, because they feel light and airy. But once we settled, 2 mediums and a salad was fine for our family of 5 (kids 10,7,2) We (not kids) shared a draft hazy IPA (Lagunitas), which was tasty. Another interesting thing to share, which has no bearing on anything, was that the level of condensation on our water cups was off the charts. This was some of the best Detroit style pizza I've ever had. We had two medium pizzas - I tried one that was half spinach artichoke and half veggie garden. The other was half cheeseburger and half Hawaiian. The crust was crispy, airy, and buttery, without being too overwhelming. The red sauce had a touch of sweetness, and the cream sauce was rich without being too much so. I enjoyed the range of toppings available. A side of Calabrian chili pesto also helped add some variety as well. My friends enjoyed the other pizza, with a special nod to the cheeseburger. The two pizzas were enough for three of us. Love this place. I love the detroit style pizza. Super fluffy, edge pieces have a great crisp, and the ingredients on the pizza were fresh. Service is fast and makes you feel like you are at a local pizza joint anywhere in the US. The restaurant has fun pictures around, decent indoor space, and funny knick knacks. A FIRE Detroit-style square slice in a classic retro ambiance -- the Williamsburg location is a short walk from the L. The pizza itself is SO GOOD, a pillowy crust with a crispy outside and perfectly sauced. Stopped by here a couple of days ago, while purposely touring Williamsburg to test out some of the top-ranked pizzerias in Brooklyn. My favorite part of this visit was honestly the vibe and the friendly atmosphere. We were tempted at first to grab some pizza to go, but once we got inside we decided to have a proper sit-down experience - and I'm glad that we did. The interior is super cozy and fun, with lots of 90s paraphernalia all over the place (VHS tapes, Etch-a-sketch, hungry hippos, and more). Their staff are really nice and accommodating - not just for us, but especially for other customers who had a whole variety of needs (a couple families came in with kids and strollers, one couple had an adorable and well-trained dog, and everyone got seated and taken care of despite logistical hurdles). We got a seat in 0.2 seconds. For the pizza itself: I've never had genuine, authentic Detroit-style deep-dish pizza before, and I'm not sure if that's what I just had at Ace's - but whatever I ate, it was solidly good (and super filling). We got the Vodka Meatball and the Pepperoni pizza, at their smallest portions available; realistically, a single "small" deep dish pizza slice will likely be enough for most people. Probably took about 10 minutes for our food to be served once we ordered, which was nice. Price-wise, it wasn't a bad deal - we spent about $30 for two servings, tip included. Not exactly super-cheap but definitely not as expensive as some other hyped pizzerias - and again, you'll likely be full when you're done. The flavor wasn't QUITE as amazing as we'd hoped for, based on other reviews and general hype - but it was still tasty and we were happy with what we ordered. If someone suggested "let's grab some pizza at Ace's" in the future, sure wouldn't say No. read more

Went in on Saturday night a few weeks ago without a reservation, and to my surprise they sat me and my two friends at a big table which said 'reserved'. The place was packed and I couldn't believe we got a table. They have a very fun retro 80s vibe/aesthetic! After looking through the menu for a few minutes the man who sat us came over and explained he made a mistake and the table was reserved for a large group. He asked us if we'd move to a smaller table for two, but they would add a third chair AND buy us a round of drinks. How could we say no. This is how you handle a mistake! Well done!!! The service overall was excellent! They also brought out a free appetizer which I believe was fried mozzarella balls. The pizza was good but didn't live up to the hype for me. My favorite was the buffalo chicken (forgot to take a pic) followed by the pepperoni. We also got the meatball, and supreme. 3 of us shared 4 different personal pies, which is 2 slices each. Then we were able to try a few. It was more than enough pizza. As for the complementary drinks, I ordered the Pepperontini martini made with pepperoncini brine - so unique! Definitely a must try. This is not your NY style pizzeria. If you want something cheesy, crispy, and memorable, you can't beat a Detriot 'za from Ace's. We just *happened* to be imbibing at TORST, across the street, when the hunger pangs (and Google Maps) pointed us to Ace's. I put in an online order, and it was ready for pick-up in about 25 minutes. When I walked in to acquire my pie, I was struck by the 90's nostalgic diner vibes. VHS tapes, classic videos games - it was like I was transported back to my childhood basement, in the best way possible. I didn't stay and hang, since my pizza-mates were waiting back at TORST, but I starred Ace's as a must-return. The pizza was delicious. Crunchy, buttery, melty, hot, thick, bready Detroit-style crust. It was a home run - and we just got a classic cheese. I imagine adding toppings or springing for a specialty pizz would yield great satisfaction. Since our visit, I've recommended Ace's Pizza to all my friends and family. If you want some legit Detroit style pizza with crispy edges and golden bottoms, this is it. You can't go wrong with any of the pies here although I'd recommend at least a medium size if you're sharing. I do wish the vodka meatball had a little more vodka sauce but I love my pizzas extra saucy. I'm a massive fan of Ace's and it might be due to my bias towards Detroit style pizza. Their personal pizza comes in 2 slices, medium in 4, and large in 8 slices. At $10 for a personal pizza, it's a bit pricy but if you like Detroit style pizza, Ace's is a must in NYC. The slices always come piping hot, and are generally nice and crispy on the bottom. On this visit, I got the Supreme pizza for the slightly healthier option but I will admit that I think the pepperoni is much better. It is also worth noting that the pizza here is on the doughier side in case that's not preferred. Unlike a lot of the pizza places nearby, Ace's is more of a sit down restaurant where they provide water and utensils, and have restrooms inside. This makes service slightly slower than other by-the-slice places nearby but there's plenty of seating both inside and out front. Overall, I have yet to find a better Detroit style pizza in the city than Ace's but I'm actively on the hunt read more

I ordered for pick up on the phone maybe a year ago and honestly didn't have a pleasant experience with the staff member or the pizza I got. It made me very skeptical to go back. Yesterday, I decided to give it a shot and was very pleasantly surprised. Everything was delicious and came out hot and fresh. Staff were very nice and attentive. It's a very chill spot with a bar and a couple arcade games kind of like a divey bar but with great food! The food also came out very quick. After a long day of exploring Williamsburg, it was nice to be seated in a restaurant that was full of nostalgic decor. The atmosphere was very cozy and brings us back to the early 2000s. The space is quite small so the tables are a bit close together. We ordered the cheese pizza with ricotta on top. The ricotta was an additional cost. The pizza itself was not the best Detroit style pizza I've had. The dough was kind of dense which made the slice sort of chewy. It's sit down so expect to pay tip. Our service was nice. I like all the retro, VHS tapes and video game systems plugged into TVs and arcade games. we got the spicy boy on the secret menu. It taste so good. The pepperonis are perfectly crunchy. The spicy sauce is delectable with a good kick. The crust is what always gets me. It feels like cheese is melted into the crust. We wanted to try a new pizza spot while in Williamsburg and unbeknownst to us, Ace specializes in Detroit style pizza which we enjoy but don't eat often outside of Michigan. Ace seriously nailed it.
