Alright, so first off I love Cafe Rio. I grew up on the west coast and frequented this restaurant. I live in Orlando now and I miss it terribly and CONSTANTLY. This location was alright - I walked in right when they opened and really appreciated that they opened at 10:30 because then I could make it to my flight out on time. So shoutout to the early hours, I'm sure it's super helpful for the business around here too. Everything was great except I will knock the pork which I'm sad about because that's the best part of the meal! For real, the sweet pork is usually incredible. Today I was a little annoyed with it because the pieces were HUGE. Maybe it's because I came too early and it was less shredded because of that? Idk, but I literally had to saw them with a fork and knife, which I've never seen before at a Cafe Rio. Still a solid four stars though, and I'd come back in a heartbeat. read more

Apparently they do not like to keep their full menu available for the entirety of their scheduled hours went in today around 8 o'clock and wanted grilled vegetables on my quesadilla, but there were no grilled vegetables available single person said we'll get that done and put them on there. Asked for chips and cheese dip. Apparently there was no queso available ask about it. They said there's none available now. Ask again what does that mean? Can we have some made? Yeah, there's none available now. When press a little bit further sure guy they can be ready in like 15 to 20 minutes. Don't waste your time at this place. Waldo's chicken and beer isn't shopping center and you can pay almost half the price for a better meal and a much better staff. read more

I absolutely love Cafe Rio, and I've frequented the Lone Tree location for years. I ordered from this location via GrubHub and was extremely disappointed-- my sweet pork bowl had approximately 3 bites worth of sweet pork, and that's not an exaggeration. I don't know if it's because I ordered through GrubHub or it's due to inflation, but it's unacceptable to charge over $12 for a bowl of rice and beans. read more

Never heard of this place before. Was totally caught off guard. It reminds me a lot of Chipotle, but better. The ordering process for me was confusing, and I felt like I was being rushed. I probably would have experimented more, but again I felt I was being rushed. The price was a lot more than I expected. Turns out I ordered carne asada for my meat and there was quite an upcharge for that. After I got my food I was looking at the menu and got a better understanding of it. The burrito itself was quite good. Not sure if they had any hot sauce available, as I didn't see any at the the table or by the drink area. Not sure if I will be back. This restaurant was pretty quiet on a Friday evening. Staff was wearing masks and it was empty enough that social distancing was easy to follow. The food options here are solid. You have a choice of various entrees with different cheeses, sauces and meats. If you come here and you can eat pork, get the sweet pork barbacoa - I say this as someone who usually doesn't choose pork. You should also get the horchata if you can have dairy - I say this as someone who doesn't usually drink my calories (unless it's boozy). I got the enchiladas with rice and beans. The food was delicious but the portion size seems to have decreased recently, which was disappointing. I also felt like the sour cream serving, which is an upcharge was also lacking. Okay the food was pretty bad, but the guy serving the veggies was so nice and we could see he was smiling behind his mask which is the reason for the 2 stars. I got a shredded chicken quesadilla and my boyfriend got carne asada tacos. The quesadilla was SO greasy, and just very plain for it to cost $10. I'd honestly prefer a Taco Bell quesadilla My boyfriends tacos had minimal meat which he also said were just alright. The pinto beans also looked like refried beans? I'm literally addicted to their burritos. With places like Chipotle, I don't even bother with the tortilla because it is too doughy, and filling, but here, they make their own tortillas and YOU MUST EAT THEM! I have had both the chicken enchilada meal and burritos here, and both are fantastic. They also have a really cool drink bar with lots of choices. You also can get a frequent buyer card, and the staff is wonderful. My first visit they helped me get a drink, and brought my food to my table for me! A couple of things to note though- on Tuesdays, they have a special in which meals are $5, so prepare for a wait! Also, one time I got my food to go, and they don't put any silverware in the bag, you have to grab it yourself- so now I have learned that lesson. YUM! So I was getting some car work done in Glendale and walked over to Cafe Rio after a recommendation from a friend. Okay, pricey, yes, but delicious, YES! I got a chicken burrito....the chicken was pulled chicken and LOTS of it! And they have horchata! I must say, I eat a lot...well, achem....quite a bit and I didn't finish my burrito. This place is like a suped up version of Chipotle, Qdoba and other fast casual Mexican places. We went right when they opened and it soon began to fill up. I got the steak salad sans tortilla bowl and it was outstanding and filling. Their cilantro like dressing is drool worthy! I almost licked the cup clean of it with no shame whatsoever. Since we went so early I was a little confuse why the employees were all sitting around, eating and taking breaks. Go where the customers can't see you, it's a bit tacky (I worked in food service for seven years and always had to be out of sight). I guess 10 minutes if working really tires people out? I had no preconceived expectations of Cafe Rio. Located in the same new dining strip in Glendale with Panera and Garbanzo we decided to give it a try. My first impression upon entering the eatery is that everyone in the open kitchen seemed to be on happy drugs - every few minutes they should in unison "new customer" or "FREE MEAL" (or something like that). I was waiting for the cliff diver to come out and entertain everyone. Obviously Cafe Rio is trying to jump on the Chipotle / Qdoba bandwagon with giant burritos prepared to order. Taking it a step further they also offer a variety of other Tex-Mex dishes from taco salads, enchiladas, rellanos etc. We decided to try the recommended "house favorite" burrito with pork barbacoa. On the big plus side, the homemade flour tortillas, hot off the griddle, are delicious - actually the best part of the meal. The barbacoa was sweet (as described) but a bit to sweet for my taste and lacking in any smokiness or pork flavor. The rest of the burrito contained the regular - rice, black beans (which are better at Chipotle). I will go back to Cafe Rio to try other things hoping that the fresh tortilla is not the only reason to go there. Service...fast and friendly. Atmosphere...warm on a very cold day :-) Music...way too loud. read more

You know how people crave Chipotle....well at least I do. My coworker talked about how she craves Cafe RIo and how awesome it is. Of course I had to try it out and see what all of her fuss was about. Sunday night, it was hopping for almost 8PM. The menu isn't too extensive but good. I got a chicken burrito and my friend the same. The thing that was kind of annoying is that they charge for everything. Sour cream, guac, etc. Anywho, the food was ok. I work near Cafe Rio and have been there 20+ times. If you're looking for fast-casual mexican, it's worth a try. When they figure out it's your first time there, they have all the line staff sing out "first-timer!" while you're in line. Some people may think that's cute; some may be annoyed. Pros -friendly, efficient staff who keep the line moving while still making the tortillas fresh and customizing everyone's order to make them happy -the queso is yummy, yummy, yummy. -the fresh tortillas -appeals to kids, families, singles, couples, really wide range of folks -portion size is HUGE; they feed you alot with each item! some people like that. Cons -the food is very salty. The beans, the meat, it is all really salty. Way too much salt in the beans. -the pork was way way way way way too sweet. like it had been soaking in a vat of sugar. -portion size is huge; all of their items are BIG; the salad, the burrito, even the 3 tacos, were each HUGE and 1 of them would feed me for 3 meals. Some people like huge portions, but I don't. -huge entrees are the only option; no ala carte or smaller options (you could share, I guess) -comes across pretty corporate with the music overhead pausing every few minutes for commercials about Cafe Rio (i am already there; why do I need to hear a commercial while I eat?????????????????????????) I think it's funny that they promote themselves as voted best mexican food...in Utah! Since when is UTAH the mexican food mecca of the U.S.? Those commericals that play overhead every few minutes will tell you about being the best mexican food in Utah. Funny stuff. read more
