Small restaurant, casual relaxed atmosphere but can also be loud. Some nights especially on the week night super busy and wait time is long. I am not a fan of their food, it is not authentic Mexican, its Tex-Mex. I had the chicken enchiladas and the chicken is not shredded, tasted like it was from premade, precooked package. The red chili tasted like it was from a can. Way too much melted cheese. The food was very very salty. I like my Mexican food to have spice and flavor, meat marinated and cooked from fresh. The poor rating is solely for the crazy increase in prices. Las Caras has been my families go to Mexican restaurant for more than a decade. I usually have the Hyde Park, which is cubed steak and rice smothered with green chile. It's terrific. But today I was put off by the price increase, $12.95 last time but $17.95 today. I ordered and our server added insult to injury when she said "Steak is a now a $2.00 premium". $19.95! 55% increase. My bill was $27 plus tip, $32 all in for LUNCH! The food was great and the service was good, so I will be back, just not the every week or two like we have done for years. I think other regulars feel the same way, it was lunch and the place was empty. Disappointing but it's their restaurant and they can charge what they want,and we can choose to find a new favorite spot. read more

Went to Las Caras on a recent girls trip to Denver and had such a good experience! There were 9 of us, and the restaurant had our table ready for us upon arrival. Their margaritas were on point and the food was fantastic albeit very heavy, but that's Mexican food for you! This is a casual restaurant with a very relaxed atmosphere. Most folks in our party ordered smothered burritos (which can also come in bowls without the tortilla). Smothered burritos seem to be the house specialty and everyone loved them. I opted for the chicken enchiladas. The enchilada sauce was absolutely delicious and the chicken was grilled well + tender. I recommend this restaurant for a hearty meal. This is a great place for Mexican food. Tons of options - everything you'd expect and more. The vegan options are great as well. Almost anything can be ordered with beans instead of meat and without cheese and sour cream of course. The veggie stuffed burrito I ordered was extremely satisfactory. It had loads of different veggies, a whole lot of beans (choice of black, pinto, or refried), and a choice of white or brown rice. It was also topped with a delicious veg-friendly green chili sauce. The only thing I can knock this place for is the temperature. This was probably one of the coldest restaurants I have ever been in. My mom actually had back pain afterward from shivering so hard. The food was delicious but it's hard to enjoy when it's THAT cold. I sure hope that's not a regular thing. Oh and how could I forget the salsa! It was the best salsa I've ever had! The food here is very strange. Completely absent of any authentic taste, has an underlying sweetness, and not the slightest bit spicy. Had chips + salsa and smothered steak burritos. Wanted shredded beef actually, but they don't offer it. The salsa was sweet not spicy, no cilantro and had red onions. The chips were stale, cold, and uninteresting. The green chile that smothered the burrito was also sweet and had a strong cumin flavor. The pieces of steak in the burrito were too big. Very little sour cream on the side and probably a dozen little pieces of tomato. I left the place full but the food was poor quality and didn't even feel like Mexican food, felt like something different. Lots of people in there that seemed like regulars, but I certainly won't be coming back. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for at least 20 years OK maybe I just feel like it's 20 years but I love it. And I've been ordering the same entree, the stuffed burrito with cilantro rice, steak or chicken and mild sauce. There's something unique about their rice as it is a Vietnamese twist, lime rice, perfection. Ok, we have tried this four times. I am sorry, the food is just a bit better than average. And, It is way over salted. Darn it, that is how we cook it and that is how you will like it!!! We have done take out the four times, so our review is based upon that. Once the order was a little bit not correct, two other times just not correct. They were at best mildly interesting in fixing the problem. Coming back and changing out the order is not acceptable when you get back home, put away the vehicle and get settled. read more

We just had lunch at La Caras after hearing so many great things about it. The recommendations were spot on! The food was incredible!! We ordered and stuffed steak burrito and the number 5 combination. (CRISPY chili relleno, burrito, and enchilada.) The steak was buttery and melted in your mouth. The chicken was moist and so yummy. The green chili was one of the best I have had out here. I. COULD. NOT. STOP. EATING! On top of the fabulous food, we had amazing service. The staff was friendly, informative and helpful. They set up a table for us to eat outside so we could enjoy our food, instead of having to eat in the car. (Boo Covid...) Please stop in and try them out. Just stopped in here for a quick lunch today. Saw it when we were at Ace Hardware. Have never heard of this place - and I will DEF be going back. The space is very chill and relaxed, cozy. The service was great and then came the food. Amazing salsa...great queso and the portions of our dinner were very large. Gonna have leftovers tomorrow! Dinner night with mom. She LOVES the Hyde Park Chicken...swears by it and will not be swayed otherwise. Kind of a bummer that there is no complimentary chips and salsa but we didn't NEED it. I ordered the #1-Chili Relleno and Smothered Burrito. The relleno was AMAZING! Crispy, cheesy, yumminess! I ordered ground beef and black beans in the burrito. One or the other was pretty heavy on the oregano and a little dry. The rice, while flavorful, was a tad dry. I think I'll ask for an extra side of the green chili next time. It's hard to find a good Mexican restaurant in this neck of the woods. I saw the place, yelped it and saw all the good reviews. I decided to try it and the yelpers misled me again on good Mexican. My mom is from Long Beach, CA and I developed a certain taste, texture, spiciness that I know I like for Mexican fare. I will get to the point here. 1. When a place does not serve soft Chile rellenos, that is a turn off. 2. When I have to pay for chips and salsa, that is a turn off. 3. The salsa is not spicy at all and is way too chunky. 4. I ordered a smothered beef and bean burrito. While it tasted o.k. and the green chili was o.k. it was not my taste. It lacked texture no visible green chilies, no tomato, no meat. It also lack spiciness. It was basically just a brownish sauce that tasted just meh. 5. The price for a smothered beef and bean burrito, chips and bland salsa with no drink was over $10. Not horrible price but I have got way better tasting, more authentic fare for less than $7.00. read more
