We went in on a Wednesday early evening for a fundraiser. We usually don't go to this location because of past experiences. This one reaffirmed why. All the food looked like it had been sitting there for days. The salsas all had films on the top and the grilled chicken looked so crusty I actually asked if they had another one they could give us. I got the tacos, they were so soggy. The black beans were so gross and the rice was hard. The garbage cans were all over flowing, which to me is a big sanitary issue. We had to go out the doors to throw our trash away. They always seem understaffed and the service reflects that. read more

Me and wife for sweet pork nachos and enchiladas. The sweet pork was awful. It wasn't sweet at all. The beans and other ingredients tasted like it was dipped in salt and then poured more salt on top. walked in tonight after a 12 hour shift, nobody in line with maybe 6 togo orders and only 2 people making them, and 8 other people in the kitchen walking around, a woman who looked like a manager making and eating her own food in the kitchen watching everyone else waiting, my fiancé walked up and asked if people can make other orders in the line you'd walk through. they denied and then 3 girls are looking at us laughing and smiling, I kept looking at them as they were trying to do everything now to not give us our order, pretty sure they were also sabotaging our order. When I saw them trying to be messy with my order I told them just to stop and cancel it. they also saw a cop and were acting all weird about it like it's so surprising that he's trying to get food. Absolutely terrible, ordered a chicken salad and it came with 1 small piece of chicken. Also ordered 2 chicken tacos and between the 2 tacos there was maybe 1 teaspoon of chicken. I also ordered guacamole and sour cream on the tacos but only 1 had it and there was so much on there I had to take some off. They had the standard 8 people "working" with only 1 or 2 actually doing something, the rest were just standing around talking amongst themselves. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. read more

We love Cafe Rio, and visit several different locations around the valley. This is our LEAST favorite one to go to. The older female employee(who has helped us in the past) doesn't wanna be there. Gives the impression she is put out when we ask for "corn tortilla" due to my child's allergy, or when simply asking for a side of food in a to go tin(after measuring). Manager/store owner needs to hire someone(customer) with a body cam. She's a grump. read more

Zero STARS. The service and the carry-out experience is absolutely terrible. I wish I could say this experience is a fluke but it's not. I set a pick up time for 6 pm via the app. I waited till 6:38 p with a lobby full of others waiting. I realize this was also New Year's Eve, BUT this has happened the last two carry-out experiences too. 20 min or 40 min. They also forgot to give me my whole order so I'm glad I double checked. Late with every online order, take over 5 minutes to check out a customer, poor attitudes, less quantity in each serving and a couple of time we received queso that looked like refried beans doused in pretzel cheese. Cafe Rio was one of my favorite places back in the early 2000's when it first opened. Over the years, the quality has gone downhill, sadly. I had a gift card, so I wanted to give it another try. My wife and I visited around 5pm on a Wednesday and it was not crowded at all. We were able to place our orders quickly and the nice young lady behind the counter made both meals just as we requested. The food was good, but smaller portions than I remember. I had the shredded chicken salad and my wife had the sweet pork salad. Both tasted great, just were on the smaller side. read more

The absolute slowest cafe rio in the state. They are the worst. They are inattentive, you wait FOREVER for your food when placing online orders. I ordered my food online at 6:20, it said it would be ready at 6:50, I got here at 6:55. It's now 7:15 and it's still not ready. There are currently 8 people waiting for online orders and a few of us have been here for a while. Also, they mess up your order every single time. Even in line if you aren't paying attention. The atmosphere is tired and run down. We come here about once every 3 years and the jokes on us because we never learn. This time at least it was a spirit night for the kid's school. My husband came in tonight to grab dinner. There was a girl who is employed there, decided to bring in 3 other people with her and then proceeded to order 6 full orders of food completely unprepared with what they wanted and then had to repeat the order multiple times to the person working to make sure they got it all. She sat there and talked to the employee behind the counter like it was a talk session instead of serving the public coming in. The girl then proceeded to move the person that was ringing them up out of the way so she could give herself the employee discount on the entire order. Two people that came in after my husband ended up leaving without ordering because of this. Cafe Rio is not a teenage hang out lets all just sit here and distract workers and talk about the latest gossip. My husband waited around for over 15 minutes trying to get a salad. Not sure where the manager was but they should have put a stop to it the second she came in annoying as hell acting like she was so important. I already emailed the customer service email so please if you are going to respond with how sorry you are that our experience wasn't great save it and actually respond with a genuine response. read more

I had the Wednesday special (chicken tostada!) and it was great! I placed my order online and it was ready on time and the staff was so great at making sure I got the right order! One of my best trips to CR. The team of 7 tonight all working together like a well-oiled machine ( no pun intended) each had a role and the were working fast and diligently at each task and YET they were friendly completely aware of the customers they were serving. They were listening intently and picking up small cues from customers and anticipated their next desire fire completing each order. Loved this location and experience. I have family who say this location is really slow and always gets their orders wrong, so needless to say I was a little hesitant to come here for dinner. To my surprise it was a great experience! The food was hot, fresh, and the wait time to get our food wasn't long at all. The line was a bit long, but that's to be expected for Cafe Rio. I felt like the speed of the line was the normal speed for Cafe Rio. We didn't wait long at all. The employees were friendly, and like I said our food was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be coming back to this location the next time we get a Cafe Rio craving! read more

Tables are always dirty. Garbage isn't picked up. Trays aren't picked up. Very unclean store. Food isn't very good either, don't know why their tortillas taste like they aren't cooked like the other rios around the valley. Had to clean off our own table. read more

This is my second review of this location. I'd like to confirm my initial review, this Cafe Rio is horrible. My adult daughter is currently throwing up in the bathroom this morning because she went to this location last night (I would've warned her against if I'd known). Cafe Rio typically is amazing, this location however should have their doors closed or bought out by someone.... Whether it's large chunks of metal being found in food, bland tasting orders, very frequent order mishaps, now food poisoning.... Cafe Rio is now taking leaves out of chipotle book (literally) and are hiding behind those leaves to hide the fact that they don't put enough food in the salads! Came here specifically because chipotle has been skimpy with there ingredients and I wanted to get my moneys worth. Now not only are they copying there bowls which are gross they're charging you $14 for a tortilla then hide the fact that they don't put enough ingredients on your salad with a bunch of leaves! When I got home, I removed all the lettuce and it seriously looks like someone ate half of it! read more

Pretty unpleasant experience here. Came in for a burrito. First the hot food line was disgusting, no cleaning whatsoever.. The guy couldn't care less about my order. Two things I ask for and one he didn't put on.. and the sour cream he put on and then ignored me when I asked him to remove it and just pushed my order onto the next guy. Then when I got to the register.. the guy who looked like the manager was yelling in Spanish at his workers. Then proceeded to say "if I hear one more complaint about business today..." Seriously? I went into Cafe Rio on 02/21/18. I made an online order and the earliest time I could pick up was 5:30pm. I had ordered two pork tacos. I arrived about 5:15pm and paid for my order. I asked the cashier for a receipt but she said I didn't need one because I had a redeemed a reward. Strange...but okay... I sat down and waited as the cashier told me my order was being prepared. As I look around, there was NO one in the regular line so I assumed my order was being made. A few moments later, about 1-2 customers come in, order their food in line, and have already sat down to eat. Fifteen minutes later, (now 5:30pm) my food is FINALLY done. I could've just went in the line and ordered my food if I knew it would take this long. Let me add that there were about 5 workers just standing around by the registers just chatting away. They weren't even the workers who are in the assembly line for the customers walking in. I get home, eat one of my tacos and as I am about to each the second one, I see a DRIED UP FLY!!! I was so disgusted!! I wish I paid attention to my first taco to make sure there wasn't anything. I keep giving this location try after try and still, I am always disappointed. I only come here because it's very close to where I live. Unfortunately, I will not be coming to this location anymore. I rather drive to South Jordan or Draper. read more

Management has clearly given up on this location. if you must eat at the Herriman location, I would avoid after 6pm and on Sunday'. there is no management to be found. To Go is always drastically understaffed, so plan on an extra 30 minutes past your pick up time. The other employees watch as the poor to go team drowns in orders. I give up. I just watched my food come out of the oven and sit for 30 minutes before it was prepared and handed to me. So sad because this is clearly a fail in leadership. read more

We have lived in Herriman for 6 years and this location has declined so much. The food quality is always terrible- rice is crunchy and hard, tortillas are stale, and staff are not well trained on recipes (my enchiladas are made 5 different ways depending on who is working). My tortillas were so stale in my enchiladas on 6/10/23 when the girl tried to roll them up they broke/cracked. We keep coming back because we love Cafe Rio but we can't patronize this location anymore. It's often got dirty tables and overflowing garbage cans, and all the drink offerings aren't always running. The fountain drink machines are filthy- limescale/scum buildup on the ice dispensers. We want to love it but just can't. read more

I don't know what happened to Cafe Rio in the last 10 years but it's truly just gone down hill at every location. It seems like the training of employees isn't what it used to be. Having 6 people in line isn't busy but to your workers it's like a huge stress it seems like. I never order online anyone cause the food is always made wrong. But when it's not busy and in store it feels like our waiting forever to be helped. Always rushing to get you in and out of the line. Being a good listener is important cause if the food is made wrong then it causes more frustration. Cafe rio makes millions every years and seems that now all they care about is the money rather than the customers like they used to. Both employees and managers are rude or don't seem to really care. Cafe Rio will continue to make millions even with 1-2 star reviews for every location cause people are still going to come and eat here. Just wish the service and the quality was what it used to be and that in itself is sad. But this just shows how corporate cares more about the next $$$$ than its customers. read more
