Ordered a taco salad and it was terrible. Full of sauce from the meat, the rice was uncooked and I didn't get half the add on's I requested. I ordered it as a pick up with Door Dash and app stated the restaurant closed at 10:00. I showed up at 9:15 to pick up my food and they were closed. The person said they had new hours but it's not listed on the Internet yet. I felt sorry for the family eating outside in the cold with the little boy. They could have let them eat inside. This location used to be pretty good, but staffing has gone downhill for the past few years. You used to see a manager or assistant on duty, now that is a rare sight. Unfortunately, with so much staffing turnover and a lack of any oversight, service has been completely forgotten. At noon on Saturday, they had one employee working, and two on break. If your familiar at all with this place, they need at least two people working to keep the line moving, it's too much work to ask of one person. Consequently, there was a large line that wasn't moving. Everyone deserves their break time, but having a manager on duty would ensure these were not all taken during the busy lunch period. At least 80% of this location's issues could be fixed with some simple supervision. We ended up walking out when it was clear we were not going to get food in the next hour. When Cafe Rio first opened my family and I went to dine there. I figured they were new, and the crew still needed a lot of training which was understandable. I didn't care for the place, or their food, but my husband, and children didn't mind it. So they've been going Cafe Rio for years. I on the other hand would not budge. Plus the fact that every time they order delivery, there's always a problem, but since they get a refund, they still support Cafe Rio. However recently my husband told me that Cafe Rio now has Birria tacos. Knowing how Birria is one of my fave tacos that I'll travel far just to get some, I decided to go ahead and give them another chance. My husband ordered delivery, and wouldn't you know it...my order wasn't delivered. So dealing with corporate to receive refund wasn't a joy either. But since my husband had two burrows in his order, he just shared with me. I figured ok it's not bad, it's not as good as what I get at different places that serve Birria or Mexican food for all that matter. But I decided to give them yet another chance, and order Birria tacos the week after. Again it wasn't bad, but the consommé was missing. Ok so we didn't complain because it's a good thing I ordered chips, and guacamole to help since I didn't have any consommé to dip my Birria taco in. So you might wonder why the 1 star...well you'd think 3rd time's a charm right...wrong! Today my husband ordered a Birria meal for me to arrive when I got home. This time the consommé arrived, and it was delivered with care. But both my tacos were burnt that both inedible. My daughter said why don't you get your money back? I'm tired of having to get refunds! So instead, I just can't support this place anymore. If my daughters decide to dine there that's their choice. But I can't spend anymore at Cafe Rio. At the Kent-Kangley store, the change dispenser shortchanges the customers. The calculated change on the receipt was correct. I've been there several times in the last month and it shortchanged me every time. I pointed it out every time and they gave me the change I deserved. Food is just okay. $13 for a burrito, $13 for a salad. Picked up. Burrito --- got some barbacoa. Few issues: - Lathered in sweet sauce. Why the hell is the Barbacoa so sweet? Tasted like a dessert. - The rice in the burrito was undercooked. I was starving and yet I felt like I ate the burrito out of necessity rather enjoyment. Does that sound like a good lunch? Wife got the salad. Had a wedge/end of the lettuce stem. Who eats that? Uneven chopped lettuce. Noticed also some black ends of the lettuce. Feels off and difficult to eat with the variations in lettuce size. Honestly, I don't think the people hired here know how to cook or weren't taught the right methods of cooking. Love the Tuesday special. $6.99 are they out of their mind. I've only had their chicken. I love the green sauce. I found the copy cat years before they moved into Washington so I was excited to see them opening up. They make fresh tortillas right in front of you. The food is prepared in front of you too. It's not my husbands favorite place. He prefers a dry burrito of a wet. The wet burritos are awesome in the tray. But they definitely don't know how to wrap a burrito so it can be hand held. It's a good thing the food is so good, it's the only thing that keeps me coming back. I'm still holding out a little bit of hope that the necessary measures will be taken in order to improve the customer service and overall experience. Unfortunately, the kind and hardworking employees are outshined by the majority of staff who give attitude and disrespect to customers and their coworkers. The experience here is highly variable depending on who is working that day. When they get the order right (about 70% of the time) it's tasty and enjoyable. They have a great menu. About 30% of the time something happens with my order. One time the folks behind the counter were so toasted that they just kept asking me the same questions over and forgetting my answer. Dude in the back staring at the tortillas like they were talking to him, while they burned. I ended up paying for a meal that wasn't what I ordered and was so randomly thrown together that it wasn't that great. I find that if I order online I have a better chance of my order being correct. And I'm not that picky, I swear - I just don't eat cheese and that seems to be really hard for whoever is making the meal to understand. The service during lunch is terrible. I love the food but every time I come this same person is there and she barely listens and does a terrible job. My 16 year old son wanted an extra side of rice and when he got to the sides, she asked what he wanted on his nachos & then dropped it on and then proceeded to walk away before he could ask for the rice. Known issues...and my wife alerted me prior to me going to pick up... -most of the time when she requests "cheese on top", they do not add the cheese on top -another item she told me they typically forget to include is tortillas, is you're getting them She had ordered two (2) burritos and one (1) salad This time in her order...and it is in her order AND on the receipt... -she was supposed to get tortillas with her salad -we were supposed to get cheese and sauce on top of the burritos AND cheese on the side 1) There were no tortillas included until I asked 2) There was sauce on top of the burritos, but no cheese!!! There was cheese on the side, however, and the person at the counter argued with me twice that the cheese (on the side) in the bag was the cheese for "on top" I just left after attempting to clarify/explain that the instructions requested BOTH, not one or the other... Finally, she also informed me she could not take the burrito out to add cheese on top...and I responded by asking if she could if I opened it...to which she responded that I could then add the cheese (on the side)from in the bag to it and that's what that cheese was for... I'm not looking to be a Dick, but what happened to "sure, we can take care of that for you"...this just happened tonight, January 29, 2023, around 7:30pm...perhaps you can have a conversation with your staff and figure out who that might have been... So simple, yet so flipping annoying...I'm not the Cafe Rio fan in the house...my wife is...and she placed the order...and she warned me about what they typically goof up (at this location, anyhow)...and they held true to what the typical service is... They are turning out fresh warm handmade tortillas every minute and the assembly of your food -- whether it be a burrito a salad, a bowl, or whatever -- is very much in the chipotle tradition. Their creamy cilantro sauce is very good and the sweet barbacoa is hard to resist. They give you a lot of food. they have an interesting selection of lemonade, teas, and other alternatives to carbonated beverages. Unless you go when they have one of their specials (taco tuesdays), it can get pretty spendy with a lunch and a drink. Also during the fall and winter it's pretty much freezing in there. I am so furious about the ordering process at this place! I wanted a salad which is listed as $9.89 online with a quote "No, you're not dreaming Amigo." REALLY!?!? Mine cost $14.83 before tax and with all of the surprise extras. Even without extras it was going to be $11.29. Nice bait and switch. I asked them to leave off tortilla, rice, and beans since they don't go on a salad. She asked what I wanted. Again, I said that I wanted a salad and she asked what meat. There wasn't any lettuce in the bowl. Who puts meat under the salad? Anyway, I asked for the steak and pointed to the grilled veggies, guacamole, sour cream, and dressing. I asked why I only received a very small scoop of guacamole. She said that the salad only comes with one scoop but if I had called it a fajita I would have received two scoops! I would have had similar ingredients! I could have thrown away the fajita parts. My biggest surprise was the increased salad price (due to the online bait and switch- I'll post a screen shot), the extra $1.95 for a couple scraps of vegetables, and an extra charge to have the correct amount of dressing ($1.00).
