I thought this place had shut down but when I sent my husband to buy tamales, he came here. He said the place was up and running with customers. He only came here because he thought that if the tamal cost $6 then they had to be good. They were not. When I asked him where he got them and he said here, I looked it up on Yelp, who was saying they were permanently shut down. Little to no flavor. Traditional Guatemalan tamales have a slice of red bell pepper, and an olive in it, giving it more flavor but this one just had the meat and let me add that the amount of bones that were in the tamale was just absolutely unacceptable. Everyone knows that you don't put bones in tamales. The amount of times I bit into a bone or had to spit them out, made the eating process so unpleasant. When we walked in we weren't exactly sure of the process, but it was clear we were supposed to order at the counter first. The restaurant is big, spacious and super clean. We ordered the churrasco chapin (grilled steak with rice, black beans, sausage and house salad) and dobladas (tortillas with beef, cabbage and onion and homemade tomato sauce). Yum. Guatemala food is kind of a mix of Mexican, San Salvadorian, and Caribbean. It's also its own thing in many ways. This place captures that. Service is slow, but they are just coming out of a pandemic. The atmosphere is good, but all the little spots of religious messaging mixed in are a bit obnoxious. Food is well made and flavorful. Be adventurous and try things that don't sound familiar to you. And be sure to ask for some Diego's Chocolate to take with you (trust me on this one, and you will thank me later). We've been to Antigua 3 times now and can safely say it's a favorite! We were watching a food special on TV about the cuisine of Guatemala and decided to seek out a restaurant in the Seattle area. Luckily we found the only one is fairly close to us! The restaurant is nice and clean and we're always greeted quickly with a welcoming smile. We started the meal with a pupusa each and a horchata. The pupusas we ordered were a combo of pork, cheeses and beans. Definitely delicious! The horchata was sweet, light with a taste of cinnamon. Both of our entrees were pretty good sized, and had us second guessing our need for the appetizer pupusas! We thank Antigua for another delicious meal, and at a very reasonable price! read more

This place suffers from a location you would never find unless you were looking for it but the food was really good and very friendly service. I loved the pupusas. They were much flatter than the Salvadoran pupusas I'm used to but they were at least equally as good - just different. We also had a platter that consisted of several foods including potato salad, avocados, roasted green onion stalks, and some meat, beans, and tortillas. Can't believe I've lived 10 years away from my mom's cooking & have not eaten here until now. I am Guatemalan, Chapina through & through, & this is the place I'm going to from now on when I'm missing a home cooked meal. You have GOT to try this place! You're guaranteed to get fresh prepared, authentic regional food that will leave you wanting more. I didn't capture the pupusas because we INHALED them! They were the best I've ever had. The server (shout out to Eddie!) gave us a sample of all of their homemade drinks and the tamarind was my favorite. Muy bien! This Guatemalan restaurant is so on-point. We've ordered here twice, and it's never failed us. Because I love all things that are tamale-like, we ordered the chuchito, pache, and tamalito de chipilin. Also the caldo de patas to share. The chuchito and the tamalito had a similar savory masa base. The masa was so flavorful, as if it was mixed with chicken stock, not water. I liked the loroco in the tamalito-- it was like a tastier spinach. As for the pache, I loved the fragrance that the banana leaf imparts, and the fact that it was like a delicious mashed potato base. So different and interesting. The caldo de patas was simple and delicious. I love the marrow and fat in the patas (feet). Perfect for a lovely night in. When my favorite Greenwood Guatemalan restaurant closed I thought I'd never again enjoy a pupusa. So glad I was wrong. During a trip to Kent to drop off a ton of Styrofoam (yes, save the environment and recycle this toxic stuff) for recycling, we searched for a good local restaurant to support. Enter Antigua. Set in a nondescript strip mall filled with fast food and quirky businesses is Antigua Guatemala. Upon entering they offer disposable masks and hand sanitizer and the restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. The menu isn't overwhelming though it's oddly set-up. Prices are hard too see but when you find them they are reasonable. They have loads of familiar items and a few different ones, like the Elote Loco or "crazy corn". OMG, it is uh-mazing. It's an ear of corn on the cob, with a bunch of condiments that is pretty, flavorful and hard to share. Next time we get two. My boo had chicken tacos (order of 3) and I had two black bean/cheese pupusas. Both were perfectly crisped but not greasy, and decent proportions. Two entrees and the corn were $26 with tax, which is totally reasonable for food of this caliber. I can't wait to find another reason to come to Kent. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but when you walk in, you're greeted with warmth and a cozy setting. Food is delicious, well priced and they have options for vegetarians! We ordered the veggie enchilada guatamalteca, elote, black bean pupusas, dobladas de pollo. The food was super flavorful! Perfectly seasoned and so satisfying. I loved the enchilada guatamalteca, it had a refreshing beet and cabbage slaw on it. I've never had anything like it and I loved it. My favorite were the pupusas! They were so soft, cheesy and came with a delicious slaw. I'm typically not a fan of slaw but this one was amazing. I'm so glad I found this gem! A little Guatemala inside this restaurant. My husband is Guatemalan so of course when we saw this place, it was a must try! We got the Shucos which is a Guatemalan style hotdog, one word DELICIOUS! One critique would be that the sausage needed a little bit more salt, it was a bit bland, but luckily the sauces sorta help. JK tried their pork and cheese pupusa (came sizzling hot and was a nice size, but could have used a bit more seasoning), enchilada guatemalteca (wasn't sure about this mix of ingredients, but it was surprisingly good!), dobladas de res (also good), and elotes locos (corn - wish it had been a lot hotter, temperature wise, and next time would request no ketchup or mustard). The horchata was a bit too sweet and had a slightly odd flavor, but can't pinpoint what it is. Service was friendly and reasonably quick. My friend and I wanted to try Guatemalan food! I saw this place was good from a blogger and we actually came on the 3rd to last day before indoor dining was temporarily closed due to a surge in Covid. We had drinks - the Tamarindo and Jamaica! Our waitress was very kind and although English was not her native language, she was very accommodating and helpful! The Pupusas were very good! The mixed shuco hot dog isn't on the menu, but it comes with carne asada on top of the standard hot dog. The meat was good, and I enjoyed all of the sauces and avocado that went with it. The picamas sauce gave it just a hint of heat. The bread seemed a little stiff, though. I ordered a pork and cheese pupusa, but they gave me one that only had cheese. The cheese was good, but I don't think I really like masa dough. The coleslaw and the sauce were both just "okay." The mollete dessert wasn't my thing, either. the first thing that I noticed when I walked in is it felt like it felt cozy as if I was walking into somebody's home in the winter with the heat on and it smelled nice no signs of mold it smelled clean the tables were clean they followed social distancing The waitresses wore masks the service was great they promptly attended to us and gave us plenty of time to order checking in with us The food was great! We prefer vegetarian options when possible so I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were several dishes we could try. The bean pupusas were just what I was craving. So good! My family is from Guatemala, I was raised on comida Chapina. I'm from LA, the US Guatemalan hub. And this is the most authentic Guatemalan restaurant I have ever been to. I was very impressed. I cook comida tipica very well and I was impressed! My mom makes the best tamales but these were very good. The chuchitos were on point! The Churasco was on point and enough for 2 people. Frijoles colados were on point as well as the platanos fritos served with cream and queso fresco. The tortillas, amazing! Thick made by hand also known as pishtones by us Chapines (Guatemalans). No no no no no..... keep driving, don't stop here. I get the economy is getting to some peeps, but the day I pay $17.00 for ONE fried, sliced in 6 pieces, ripe banana on a leaf....this is where I say NO, this is not inflation any more. This is called total RIP OFF!!!! Unless it's as old as Antigua or they drove there and back to fry it just for ME, they are out of their minds to charge anyone that price for 1 plantain!!! The pupusas were under cooked. The caldo was a small cup and a half of caldo and veggies with sides for $20...$20!! I'm good. I'll never be back. Prices here are as if they have some type of imported product that no one else can get off the Mexican store down the street. My sister ordered breakfast and it came with the tiniest sized longaniza that we've ever seen. My son and husband bought a burrito ( which is Mexican cuisine not Central American) and I guess the chef decided to get fancy with it, cause he put a few micro greens and 2 pansies on it... I guess to imply it was worth the $15 they wanted to charge for how small it was. Sadly they spent more money on looking "nicer" than on the quality of their products. The beans weren't even made from scratch, you can tell they used Dúrcal from a can. I've been to other Central American spots and my husband and his family is from there, so know this isn't right at all. We were beyond disappointed since my in-laws were in town and we wanted to take them somewhere to eat good. My mother in law is a great cook and if she says it's no good, that's that. Rating might increase If I get to try more of the real main dishes here but I just stopped in for a light meal of a tamal and a tostada. Both very good and fresh. Very kind and quick table server too I've never had Guatemalan tamales before. It was bigger and sort of more fluffy and light than Mexican ones I think. Also not very spicy which I was glad of did to my sensitive stomach - You can always add hot sauce if you want but the chicken in this tamale has plenty of flavor and was tender and fresh not dry and chewy like a lot of tamales. The atmosphere was warm and bright and there are some "fancier" dishes on the menu that look totally worth trying for a nice dinner. Yummy looking breakfast too. We called Antigua for a pickup order of 2 pupusas ($4/each so $8 total), a Dobladas de res o pollo ($9.99/each), I asked for a chicken and a beef. The hostess said it would be $26. I thought the pupusas were less than $4/each so I thought the math added up. My bf went to pick up the food and when he came back, we only had the pupusas and one order of the Dobladas. We called them to ask about it and they said they thought I asked for one of the Dobladas to be beef and the rest chicken. Okay, my bad for not being super clear but when we hung up, we realized the Dobladas were all chicken, no beef anywhere. Also, if they only charged us for only one Dobladas, shouldn't the bill have been closer to $20 with taxes??? The math just doesn't add up to me. The food itself was pretty bland. They didn't give us any sauce or salad for the pupusas like how they pictured it so it was very dry and the chicken Dobladas were soggy, it didn't look crunchy like the pictures. We were only 5 minutes away and we've had fries in the car for 15 minutes that were crunchier. The chicken in the Dobladas also tasted like they just boiled it. Pretty disappointing overall. We didn't have enough food but I lost my appetite after eating some of their stuff anyway. At least they were fast but I wouldn't go here again. read more

I was so happy to try this place, my GF and I have been talking about about it for weeks now, I was so disappointed with the flavors and texture of the food, the prices was a little bit high too, with that said, I'll tell you everything else about this place, service was second to none, we went in about 7 pm on a friday night and it wasn't too busy, we got seated right away and a few min later we got our menu and complementary chips and bean, about 5 min after she came back and asked if we were ready to order, so my GF order tha Ceviche Chapin and I order the Churrasco Chapin and a couple of Elotes Locos, we got our food pretty quick, no more than 10 min, my GF offer me some Ceviche and it was plain it didn't have any lime flavor when the description said it was cooked in lime, it definitely wasn't, i think it was just boiled and mixed with lime juice, now it's my turn to try my Churrasco, OMG....the steak was so flavorful and delicious but that was it with my plate, the bean was prepped differently than I've ever had before, it had the texture of a brownie and somewhat dry, the other sides weren't good either, all of it was very plain. We were so disappointed, this was nothing like all the reviews we've read about. About halfway into our entrée, our waitress came by again and asked if we needed anything and that our Elotes Locos will be out in a few min, a few min later we got our Elotes Locos and guess what? it wasn't all that good too especially for $4 a piece. Overall, my experience here wasn't all that great and i wouldn't come here again.
