We'll say since I come to work in Midway airport more often. I discovered this Puerto Rican restaurant on the route when I take Archer avenue along the way. Despite that I made my own lunch today I decided to splurge and give it a try. I've had Puerto Rican food before but it's usually up in the north side of Chicago and that in the south side especially by Midway airport. Anyways the rellanos de Papa was delicious and the feelings were b however the portion seem to be small that's why I'm glad I ordered too usually some of the Puerto Rican restaurants on north make their rellanos de Papa bigger. There bistec platter with fresh salad and Puerto Rican rice was delicious however their portions were small too. The bistec had a red sauce versus oily fried sauteed sauce with onion taste. They had a different take on it. I drank it with the traditional Malta India beverage like on picture. I finished it up with a cocoa flan. I would come back again it was actually up the par with the Puerto Rican restaurants up north it's just I'm surprised the portions are smaller and they didn't serve water. Thus 4 out of 5 stars. Service was pretty friendly and quick. Ambience had a more modern feel with the Puerto Rican Caribbean Spanish music in the background. Jibarito sandwich dinner wasn't edible at all. I was disappointed. I picked this order up to go. The sandwich had grilled onions, 2 tiny roma tomatoes on it and barely 1 piece of lettuce, it was greasy. I never asked for grilled onions. The steak was tuff. And it wasn't even enough to cover the plantains. It was insulting to say the least. There wasn't any love or pride in that. Honestly, I would appreciate a refund and a apology. I got the dinner dessert and a can of pop. I drove there bc I was heading out of town. My family and I enjoyed going to eat there regularly especially my mom's before she passed. This has been one of my favorite PR spots for years. The food is consistently delicious, hot and fairly quick. The restaurant always looks clean. I've had a good variety. As a Boricua from the Chi area I'll travel as far as u need to get the alcapurrias here. The price is a steal and they taste like home. I've place an order on 1/14/2026 it was for a pork chop dinner asked for Puerto Rican rice (yellow) with beans. Once I got home I've noticed they gave me smushy white rice, The food was tasteless (no flavor at all), Cheeseburger was too dried and burnt, papa rellenas was too small. I've never seen it so small that it fit perfectly in my palm. In the picture it seemed like it was regular size and it definitely wasn't. lol The cashier (front) young lady taking my order seemed unfriendly, There wasn't any welcoming upon entering the restaurant. Food is good but the service can use some work. Person who took our order was nothing short of rude. I am a senior citizen and was just trying to be friendly as should everyone be to all people. Jibarito was 10/10 , arroz con gandules 10/10, Yuka sopa was 8/10 , lechón 4/10 it was pretty salty couldn't finishing it, passion fruit agua was 6/10 a bit to sweet . Mojito de limón 8/10 Service was like 4/10 they were kinda rude, very like "I'm better than you" but also like "don't wanna be here" . Wow. Just wow. I came here with a group of teachers for lunch. We ordered ahead because we knew we were a big group and didn't want to spend our whole lunch hour waiting. So, when we got to the restaurant, we walked up to the counter and asked for our food. It was ready to go and still warm! We sat down and just marveled at the food in front of us. I saw this place featured on TikTok and decided to give them a try tonight. Outside is a huge Puerto Rican chair which I love and want. The exterior is nice, decent. Inside the decor is contemporary and nice. There was a rather large party there tonight(funeral repast). There seemed to be a good number of tables there. The register is in the back. A lady spoke to me in Spanish and I replied in English and was transferred to someone that spoke English. I ordered a steak jibarito with white rice and a chicken jibarito with yellow rice which the order taker stated had no pork in it....oh well it does buddy. The pinto beans had a lot of olives in them...never had that. The 2 sauces they gave were hot sauce, no flavor at all and the mayo sauce was more like a soup - no gracias. The beef empanada was dry, no flavor at all. The streaming DJ music was very loud. My ears were ringing after I left. I waited about 20 minutes for order. Would I be back? Hmmmm no. The lechon here was fantastic; juicy, tender, and flavorful, as it should be! The arroz con gandules was also delicious, although I'm going to have to ask for extra olives in it next time! I love olives in my arroz. I also had alcapurrias and a papa rellena, as well as bacalaito. All of those flavors really brought me back to my childhood. Exactly as I remember! My two friends who didn't grow up eating this food really enjoyed it as well. The portions here are generous and the prices are very inexpensive! Three of us ate for only $50, which was only about $16 per person. I've had much less satisfying meals from trendier restaurants for much more. It really made me so happy to know that this Puerto Rican restaurant exists all the way in this part of town. I liked the rice and tostones from here. There was a sauce on the sandwich that I wasn't a fan of. I would say the sandwich could use a little more flavor and meat but overall it was pretty okay!
