Came here for lunch on a Saturday in July and it was fairly busy. Service was about a 2 but I liked the food. Everyone seemed to like what they had. The combo plates were a good deal. 2 items with rice and beans for about 8.50. I was not a huge fan of the chicken so I'd get something different next time. Not impressed! Sign outside said to wait to be seated - no one ever came out. We should've just left then, but posts I'd read raved about this place. This is not Mexican food!!! The salsa was simply tomato sauce - yuck! I added pico de gallo to try to give it some sort of taste. The pork and chili had only a green herdez type of taste. My daughter didn't eat her burrito because it was so dry inside. My daughter tried to eat my tacos, but choked down part of the rice and beans instead. This location is only open seasonally, as Garden City is a tourist town excluding a few year round locals. What's fantastic about this place is they really have brought fine dining to the area. Previously it was a burger joint or a to-go meal on a pick-nick bench around town. With Cafe Sabor, you can go out for fine dining. It's very convenient as it provides a valuable experience to the area. During the summer when you've been on the lake boating, and you want to relax and have waiter / waitress service, this place is the place to go. Food is awesome, and service is good. The service could improve, and the professionalism could improve, but generally I'm very happy with it. read more

We were on vacation at Bear Lake and took 8 of us to Cafe Sabor for dinner. Overall we had a pleasant experience. We sat on the front patio. It was very pleasant. The chips and salsa were great. They gave us plenty. I marked them down because the food was off a bit. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't up to the level we experienced in the Cafe Sabor in Layton Ut. This place has outstanding service, extremely friendly. The food was superb we had the chili Verde burrito they suggested a twist with habanero sauce tossed in with the chicken it could not have been better, my friend had the cilantro shrimp salad which was heaven the cilantro it had a lemony flavor that blended well with the shrimp. The drinks were perfectly measured for a great alcoholic beverage. They should be the first place you go to eat when you're visiting Garden City I highly recommend this to everyone this is a must when coming to Bear Lake. We always try and dine here when in town. The chips are fresh and amazing and the house salsa is super yummy. Atmosphere is beautiful and they have a large outside dining area. I highly recommend this place. Try the quesadilla. read more

I have never, in my life, experienced such poor service. My husband and I were sat next to the front door, where we were ignored by multiple servers who made eye contact multiple times. We were given chips and salsa by a gentleman, who seemed to be a bus boy because he only brought out chips and salsa to multiple tables and cleaned up after people left. We ate our chips and salsa, looked over the menu, and waited for a server for 20min. Courtney walked by after making eye contact for the third time and asked if we had been served. We told her we had not. She brought our drinks, which was very welcomed on this hot summer day. We sat for another 15 minutes without service. Nobody stopped to say that they would be our server. Nobody who made eye contact stopped to ask if we had been helped, besides Courtney. We walked out. Needless to say, we will NEVER come back. Also, they asked if Pepsi products were ok. Off season, this is one of the only places opened. As you can imagine, that's a big part of the reason we came here. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito and my wife ordered a chicken quesadilla. The service was a little overwhelmed and that's not their fault. We will a party of 10, and there was another party of 10ish. So as you can imagine on a Friday night in December, the poor staff. So with that, they did the best they could. Nothing against them in serving us. They brought out two different salsa with the chips. One was hot and the other mild. The hot one was excellent. I'd buy a jar. The mild one not good. Didn't taste bad but didn't go with Mexican food. My wife enjoyed her quesadilla and over all my burrito was good, one change would make it a dang good burrito. What ever the red sauce is, change it. I'm not sure if it's the same as the mild salsa. If it is, ask for the hot salsa on the burrito, trust me. Id give it another try to see if I could change out the red sauce on the burrito. read more

Even though it was Labor Day weekend the line did not appear to be that long but it took almost an hour to be seated. Then took another 20 minutes before we got to order. Our waitress was friendly and great to work with but you could tell it had been a long day. Chips and sals where good. My wife and son each got an order of nachos and loved them. My other son got the steak and it was king of a soupy mess but tasted good. I got the carna asada burrito and it was dry and tasteless. I think the negative reviews are more for a lack of employees. When we arrived the manager was the only one there. Two more girls came shortly after. They were all running their legs off trying to please everyone and do the best they could. We asked if he could get us out for the 4:30 show and the manager himself said, "We'll make it happen". They did. It wasn't the best dining experience, but I'd go there again just to support a business that's trying to pull it together. read more

08/21/2012 Allow me to set the stage for this review. My wife and I are from Southern California (and have no small experience dining in the Mexican environment) and vacationing with our family in Southern Idaho. They absolutely love to boat and spend the day at Bear Lake and even have a time share there. Wishing to impress us they booked their timeshare in Garden City and allowed us to stay with them. After a long day of sight-seeing, hiking the Minnetonka Cave we had a ravenous appetite and we decided to expand our culinary horizon by patronizing the local restaurant scene. From a smattering of offerings we chose to dine Mexican as our entire clan loves anything South of the Border. We realized that the establishments here rely on the tourist trade and likely operate seasonally. This arrangement cuts both ways. The menu could prove quite delectable or it could turn unpalatable. Sadly, it was the latter. We chose to dine on the veranda which was very pleasant. The waitress was friendly and competent. (Wish I could recall her rather singularly significant name but it escapes me) Our order was taken efficiently enough and our soft-drinks were delivered timely. Your pre-fabbed chips came straight out of the bag from your typical 99 cent store, tasteless, lifeless and bland. The companion salsa came out a can from the next aisle over at the aforementioned 99 cent store. Barely palatable. Please all would-be Mexican restaurateurs take heed! Want to make a favorable impression? Then deep-fry your own chips and make a distinctive salsa, for goodness sakes!!! After this the dining experience went decidedly sideways. We made pleasant conversation while we waited for order to arrive. And we conversed. And conversed. And conversed. Literally 45 minutes went by with only our drinks being refreshed once. Then without prelude, a server (not ours), dropped a children's meal in front of our 8 year old. It was NOT what was ordered and not a word of explanation was offered. Then ten to fifteen more minutes passed and another two meals were delivered, this time by our server. This procedure continued for the next forty-five minutes as one or two plates were delivered very piece-meal. By the time my plate arrived everyone at the table had eaten what they could choke down and I hastily began my tenuous journey through this misbegotten eatery. I had ordered the pork burrito plate. The pork was pink and very under-cooked. I've seen pigs hurt worse and live than what was lying in that flour tortilla. The beans lacked any spice and merited only the first bite. The rice had obviously been on the stove since that morning and were threatening to turn into porridge. Needless to say, most of what lay in my plate went uneaten. Unbeknownst to me, our daughter had settled the bill before we had a chance to discuss the pros or cons of speaking with the management. We did bring up our objections with the server but no solution or refund or adjustment was offered. In all my years of dining out this occasion top them all as the worse meal I have ever been served. I left convinced that the only they remained in business was because of the transient nature of the clientele and that the owner could make a livelihood off of the one-time customers such as ourselves. Please, please, please.......unless there is a complete change in ownership and menu we strongly urge any would-be diners to avoid this establishment like the plague. read more

I love going up to bear lake and love eating at cafe sabor. The fajitas are huge and awesome. The burrito supreme is big enough to curve the appetite of my 19 year old nephew that has 2 hollow legs. For dessert highly recommend the churro. We got one for the table. Hot and delicious served with Carmel and chocolate dipping sauce to die for. read more

Worst costumer service ever!!!! Will NEVER go back to eat here. We have gone in the past and the food is decent but after today its not even worth it. We stood "in line" for 10 minutes being completely ignored, we then finally sat down (there were plenty of tables) and sat another 15 minutes being ignored until we finally decided to walk out. Never visiting this restaurant before I was a bit hesitant however, I was surprised! They have many Mexican food options to choose from. I decided to order a taco salad which ended up being really good.. my husband decided to order a salmon choice which he said was not the greatest. We had a really nice waitress, however nothing was brought out on time and they kept forgetting to bring out items we had ordered with our food. I asked for beans and rice to be added to my salad and when my salad was brought out there were no beans or rice. I had to send it back for them to fix it. We were a larger party so I would blame it on that maybe being a factor. However, the waitress wrote down all our orders on her note pad. It was extremely hot inside as I do not think that they have AC in the restaurant. Just a couple fans to try to keep the place cool. read more

Went here while on vaca. Food here was okay overall, not great. I had the Chile Relleno ( it was big soggy) and the shrimp taco. The taco was tasty but I really liked the chips and salsa, Guac and the drinks! I could have stopped there. The Raspberry Margarita with sugar was excellent, and so was our server Justin. Way to go Justin! 4 stars for you, absolute excellent service. Atmosphere was family oriented and not too loud so that was good, the cleanliness of the place left a lot to be desired however. Slow service, but very nice. Rice is a bit dry and the beans are from a can. Got the sweet pork enchilada, soft taco combo. The enchilada sauce was very weak and used very sparingly! The sweet pork over powered as a whole. The shredded beef taco was the highlight for me. Still wasn't great! Have a 3/5 because there is not much variety up here as it is. Gross is the only word that comes to mind. We have ordered from the Logan location and only realized it was a chain when we arrived at Bear Lake. Should have taken that as a sign as chain restaurants are never good. Anyway, we ordered some food togo. The salsa tasted like marinara. Seriously, it had so much garlic that it was actually inedible. I've never heard of salsa with garlic in it. Maybe someone messed up the recipes. Anyway, the place that they have just built is really cute. They have a great outdoor dining area that we might consider next time. The only bummer (other than the marinara salsa) is that this location doesn't seem to have a bar like the Logan location. Does that mean no margaritas?!? read more

There is a reason it is the best Mexican place in the bear lake area...it's the only one. Compared to others it is bland and tasteless. Huge potions...nope about average for a Mexican restaurant. Don't be tricked into thinking this place is awesome...it is okay and will put food in the belly after a long day at the lake. read more
