For a place called cafe salsa, the salsa tastes really bland and awful, might as well just buy a jar. Ordered carne asada tacos and I just got a plate full of the ingredients. Because when I order a sandwich to go I just want the ingredients and make it myself right? What a joke for $13.50. With a side of beans and rice costing $10 can't say it tasted good enough to warrant the price. The food isn't bad but with all the Mexican selection in the area definitely not a first choice. I'm picky about Mexican food. Today I had Chicken Green Posole (soup) perfect for cold dreary day in Cotati. Delicious. I brought the leftover broth home, couldn't leave it behind. Simple. (I believe) home-made green tomatillo and chicken broth, spices, half avocado sliced, shredded chicken and hominy. Lime to squeeze, fresh chopped onion and cilantro to add. two tostada shells on side. Only change recommended: needs to have chopped cabbage or radish as the last add-on. This one had plain shredded lettuce to add, which isn't appetizing and just disappears when you add to soup. I've been here before and like others say, the food is excellent. The breakfast burritos here are my favorite in the area with bacon and I add avocado. I don't like places that put rice and beans in the breakfast burritos that's just weird. Haven't tried much else but everything looks pretty good. And the people working are always nice and the food comes super fast even when they are busy. read more

This review is for Cafe Salsa's catered taco bar! We have been eating at Cafe Salsa for 10+ years and recently decided we wanted to get a catered meal for a birthday party for 20. I worked with the owner Tony to put the catering order in only 5 days before the event and was grateful that they could still do the order. Tony and his staff were bagging up the order as soon as we walked in to pick up the food and it was piping hot. They helped us load the car and our mouths started watering on the drive home because everything smelled so good! We got 4 kinds of meat, rice, beans, tortillas, chips, salsa and all the toppings pictured below. We had plenty leftover too! All the food was so fresh and our guests were so pleased. We got the shredded beef tacos and a shredded chicken taco salad. The tacos have just the right amount of heat and plenty of flavor. My girlfriend said she would get the taco salad again. They give you free chips and salsa. The customer service is my one complaint, our server was very unfriendly. We would go back, hopefully the customer service is better the next time we go. read more

I'm not sure why this place has 4 stars. I came in the first time for a burrito and choose the grilled chicken super. Thinking I'd have it for lunch and dinner. It was rather dry and super salty. Even with the sour cream and guacamole. The flavor was mediocre so I decided to take it apart and taste the individual parts to better understand. ( I'm just that kind of girl) Rice was fine. Guacamole was okay, the chicken seemed to be an issue as it was dry and over spiced with what seemed like red salt. The beans were also a problem being slightly undercooked. Seems that it was served Luke warn as the cheese never melted. It's a cute little diner like place with a super efficient waitress. I sure hope the other food on the menu is better. Big selection, fast friendly service and okay food. Stopped for lunch at 1pm on a Thursday. Busy without being crowded. Lots of tables to sit outside and enjoy the weather when it's nice. Street parking can be a challenge, look for the public lot across the street for an alternative. Some wonderful local artists featured on the walls. Food is made to order so expect the short wait that comes with that. Some unique burrito combinations. Lunch special of $7.25 for any of six items. Tortilla chips are fresh as is the salsa. I'm a little surprised there is not a salsa bar given the name, but space is limited inside. I ordered an al pastor burrito with no rice, black beans and jalapeños. They forgot the jalapeños but brought me a full side order when I asked. The black beans were underdone and chewy. Al pastor was fresh with a good grilled flavor and not greasy. Burrito was constructed a bit wrong - all the sour cream down one end not spread throughout. A decent option for the area, but not sure I will go out of my way to return. read more

The food here is really excellent. I'm only docking one star for the overall high prices. I mean, the quantities are huge, so I do end up eating whatever I get here for more accurately 2 meals. But really, I'd prefer some smaller portion menu options for a bit lower price. The great things we've ordered? Wet burritos, any type of nachos, all kinds of appetizers, and really my fiance's favorite? The taquitos. To me it's just a fried rolled up tortilla with alllllll meat. Yup, a guy's fantasy so it fits. But I prefer a little more veg to my meat, or even more sauce. It does also come with pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. So I'm sure that's where the price justification comes in. It's more a meat roll than a tiny taquito. Chimichangas are great too, try ordering that wet, nummy. As are the fish tacos. Love the IPA on tap and also pop in every once in a while for a Negro Modelo. I never came here when it was Raffa's so can't comment on that, but I do like what's here now. The other reason it just stays at 3 stars is because I LOVE salsa bars. And this place is lacking one, or any real good salsa options. I did once get the enchilada sauce to go, which was very good. I was just dipping my flour tortilla in it, loved it. But I'm just a whore for enchilada sauce. My favorite place for enchilada sauce and mole to go is Mi Burrito in Windsor. I've also ordered an extra thing of guacamole, large. It comes in a container with about 8x the amount they usually give in those little cups. So if you love guacamole spring the extra money and ask for a large guacamole order to go. When I order extras like that I'm having people over and not caring about the extra cost and I'm in a hurry. They don't disappoint that way. Once we even came in 3 minutes before closing time. The guys working get total props for that. They had just cleaned EVERYTHING, and were still willing to make us a burrito to go and chat with us as we drank a draft pint each. Cool dudes in my book for that. They cleaned again as they went along and gave us extra scoops of some of the condiments since they saw it was two of us sharing. We got three burritos to go, nothing else, no sides, no drinks, not full meals. $54 before tip!! Never again! Fantastic! My two kids and I came here after a CYO basketball game and really enjoyed everything about this restaurant. My son and I split the American Burrito with Grilled Chicken instead of steak. On Sunday, 10/24, the biggest rainstorm of 2021 yet, my husband and I were craving some pozole. We called every Mexican restaurant in Petaluma, where we are located, and no one had it!! I searched high and low for the closest restaurant that had it and we found Cafe Salsa, located in the cute little town of Cotati. Although we did not dine in, our take out experience was amazing. We called to double check they made pozole and the staff were so kind and personable. My husband went to pick up our order and had a chat with the staff while he waited. We have never eaten there before so he was getting the scoop on how the pozole was and what we should get next time. (Hint: they suggested the albondigas (which is a traditional Mexican meatball soup)). My husband ended up leaving with double our order of pozole because they raved about it, a super steak burrito, and a big smile on his face. 10/10 take out experience and DELICIOUS pozole verde! This is a review based solely on the Mexican food. I have been meaning to try cafe salsa for the longest time and was able to on July 4th for lunch. Because of the anticipation of BBQ for dinner we opted for smaller bites and possibly an entree to share. We wanted to stay away from the American part of the menu just because we expected to have BBQ and I'm thinking I shouldn't have. We ordered the guac, shrimp taco, the salmon taco ( they were topped with slaw and a creamy avo aioli) and the torta ahugado from the specials menu, a carnitas sandwich drenched in a Hot tomato based sauce with mild spice, topped with avo and picked onions. Every single thing was just meh. By meh I mean underseasoned with spices and over seasoned with salt. The guac didn't taste fresh, desperately needed acid and was just extremely salty. The salmon taco was clearly previously frozen salmon and tasted fishy, it really needed spice or acid to kill the fishiness The shrimp taco was cooked to death and was underwhelming And lastly the torta was oddly dissatisfying and was crying for sour cream and/or cheese to kill the acid in the tomato sauce and it needed the frijoles. I don't know why they held all the regular ingredients for this torta. Typically they come with cheese, crema and frijoles inside the sandwich. The avo wasn't ripe and the pickled onions just added to the overly acidic tomato sauce. I will have to try their American food, sometime time in the next few months. For now I give it 65% C- read more

Cafe Salsa is different than most Taquerias in Sonoma County. They offer everything from burritos to Cubano sandwiches to hamburgers. I tried the fajita burrito one trip one and the prawn picante burrito on trip two. The food is descent and the restaurant is clean. The customer service is less than desired. Really delicious sauteed mushrooms, onion, zucchini, red pepper (I had requested no green pepper) which was served in a taco holder, corn tortillas, with a green sauce, black beans and brown rice on the side. Stopped in for a quick dinner early on a Friday and I have to agree with the majority of reviews, this place is legit. Chips are crisp and salsa is tasty and has a bit of kick. We had a late lunch so decided to split a Shrimp Quesadilla and each have a Fish Taco. A large Shrimp Quesadilla came out, it was way more than enough for us to share. A nice amount of fresh shrimp mixed in with other ingredients served hot off the grill, Nice start. We probably should have ordered other tacos as we both prefer fried Fish Tacos and these were grilled. They were good but will likely order different tacos next time. Our server Jen took good care of us, she mentioned that the Shrimp Quesadill was her favorite and we agree! Cafe Salsa has a variety of beverages, we opted for a couple of soft drinks. My son and I stopped in here after seeing the positive Yelp reviews. He had an enormous and apparently delicious carne asada chimichanga. I had really delicious Enchiladas Suizas. The tomatillo sauce was creamy and picante, the tortillas fresh and the chicken plentiful and tender. I had a nice Arnold Palmer and he had a Coca Mexicana We both ate way too much! Definitely at the top of my Rohnert Park/Cotati restaurants list right now. Casual place with good, fast service and terrific food. Good combo. read more
