Complimentary chips and salsa, very good
    Val S.

The service was super friendly and nice, fast, very attentive. The chips and salsa were excellent. The carne asada taco and al pastor taco were not that good. I was only passing through on a road trip and probably wouldn't stop again for food. Does seem like a fun spot for drinks with friends though.

This is our second time coming to Cafe Salsa. We come from far away and it's for a good reason! The pozole verde is very delicious. Not everyone knows how to make green pozole but this place has got it right . The owner is also a very nice guy, you can tell he takes pride in his dishes and that's very important. We decided to sit outside tonight and it's was the most perfect night with delicious Mexican food. We will definitely keep coming back.

Ever looking for a place to have a bite you won't be disappointed coming here. Usually coming to places right before closing, you take the chance of food being served poorly. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed their food. I'm very picky when it comes to rice and they flavored their rice so nicely. Their soft shrimp tacos were excellent. The shrimp cocktail was also so good!!!! Fresh chips and salsa. Excellent service from the start to finish. Outside seating available for larger groups. Make room for dessert their flan and churros were the icing on the cake!

Fajita quesadilla with extra avocado, no sour cream
    Sabrina K.

We ordered regular burrito with grilled chicken($16), a fajita quasadilla with grilled steak, mushroom, peppers, includes guacamole and so cream ($15). We asked for no sour cream, add avocado, plus a child's burger and fries $9.50),and a huge glass like 20oz size of draft beer, not on menu for $10. We asked for $7 size, but oops got extra large instead. The salsa was different than i remembered from about a year show but still good. They used to have a selection of amazing soups (like at least 3 or 4 carrie variety) but i could not find on menu; I asked, he said they have pasole.. Anyhow, what we got was tasty, quality food, my grandson commented how perfectly crisp his French fries, were, and indeed yes. They do have a selection of very nice looking grown up burgers there, and breakfast looks good like something I'd enjoy trying in the future. The service was attentive, and i enjoyed sitting outside on the patio in a sunny spot (though there is also place of shade as needed).

Food has been consistently good since my first visits earlier this year. Everyone here is very nice and accommodating. Took my two youngest here for cinco de Maya and had an early dinner. I got my crispy taco with shredded chicken, we also got the nacho fries w carne asada and chili verde. Everyone was very pleased with their food and we had nothing to take home. Which is a first.

    Inside grilled veggie burrito

Stopped in for takeout. Seemed like a good space inside, good amount of outdoor seating outside as well. Not a bad amount of food. The burrito was a bit small tho. I had gotten a grilled veggie burrito without rice, and a veggie taco for good measure. Both had a good amount of veggies in it, and I liked the amount the ingredients were cooked. I'd say after the fact, could've probably stuck to a burrito since it'd be simpler that way. Flavors were good though. I'd be interested to see how their other vegetable offerings fare, may stop in again.

The shrimp tacos with the mango salsa is so good,, I had to order another one!! The service was good as well.. I'll definitely tell a friend and be back soon......

Carne asada tacos and salmon taco

Stopped here for a quick lunch before heading to our air bnb and let me tell you - AMAZING! A quaint little spot among other restaurants but I'm so glad we stopped here. The food and salsa were phenomenal, the carnitas taco were so juicy and packed with flavor and the carne asada tacos were delicious as well! My husband got the salmon taco and said that it was amazing and the sauce that accompanied it was delicious as well! It was Thanksgiving day and still the service was great! They didn't rush us out or anything. 10 out of a 10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Thank you for your hospitality, I'm from out of town... was working in the area & this was the closest taqueria around & they did not disappoint with the food! Will come back when in the area.

Tried their fish taco and it was alright . The carne asada burrito was a better choice ! :) more flavor . The spot itself has a nice outside dining area With heaters and friendly service with a smile and some laughs . I will be back for the margaritas and to try the pozole!

Tostada de Al Pastor full of great ingredients but flavor was a bit underwhelming
    Erica R.

The food options are endless at Cafe Salsa, but the sabor is lacking. I was mostly disappointed by the lack of flavor and soggy tostada. It didn't seem very fresh although the photos might look like it. I was able to bend my tostada and eat it like a taco, but really was hoping for that crunch. The meat and beans were mediocre. Le faltan sabor. I will say for the amount of food, the price is decent. I appreciate the low cost but it reflected in the flavor of the food.

4.5 stars rounded up. I love a good burrito. I am a longtime vegan of 21 years. Beans and rice are a staple of my diet. I live in the Mission district of San Francisco so have plenty of options to find a good veggie burrito in my neighborhood. After a day of hiking at Jack London National Forest me and some friends stopped at Cafe Salsa to re-fuel. I went with the grilled veggie burrito hold the cheese and add guacamole. It was served on a whole wheat tortilla which I appreciated. It was nourishing. I have a hearty appetite and was able to finish it yet had a full day of morning yoga and pranayama, lots of hiking, and it made a good nourishing meal to re-fuel from an active day. I appreciated that the veggie burrito had heaps of veggies. I deducted half a star as didn't like the salsa it came with so didn't really have much of the chips and salsa yet the veggie burrito itself was an A+. Pro tip: Call in advance so you can pick up your order to save time if they are busy. We are still in pandemic yet feel it is good to support local businesses like this. Veggie burritos are a vegan's best friend. I will be back next time I am in the area.

Our server was incredibly friendly, and the entire room shared the same warm, easygoing vibe. The small, speakeasy themed space was already packed at 5 PM, so reservations seem like a must. Everything we ordered was well-prepared and delicious, but the standout dishes were the beet salad and the shrimp & grits. The beet salad had a perfect mix of textures; chopped pistachios, tender beets, and crunchy radishes over a pillowy ricotta. I finished the salad wishing there was more. The shrimp & grits featured a potlikker sauce that absolutely lived up to the hype; it made the dish. I wish the shrimp & grits were served in a bowl rather than a shallow dish. I found myself chasing the sauce and polenta around the plate, trying not to push it over the edge. That said, if it were in a bowl, I might have just drank the sauce, so perhaps this is the restaurant's way of preserving a bit of dignity for its guests. Next time, I'm hoping to visit when oyster po' boys and fried green tomatoes are on the menu.

The vibe is effortlessly chill, with whimsical decor--think antique lamps, an old record player, and lots of little details that make you want to look around. The whole place felt alive in the best way--buzzing with conversation, laughter, and people clearly having a great time. We didn't have a reservation, but lucked out with seats at the community table. Bonus: the other guests were super welcoming, which just added to the fun, communal feel. We hit happy hour, and wow--it's a good one. Tons of interesting bites and a solid drink lineup. I went with a whiskey sour, my friend had the ginger beer on draft (very refreshing), and we shared the prawns, Brussels sprouts, and creamy mac & cheese. Everything was seriously delicious. Shoutout to our server, Melanie--friendly, attentive, and totally on it, even with the place packed. A couple things to note: it does get loud, so maybe not your spot if you're after a quiet, intimate dinner. Also, the happy hour menu listed Brussels sprouts but didn't mention bacon--I'm vegetarian, so that was a bit of a surprise. (It is noted on the regular dinner menu, which I admittedly didn't check.) All in all, such a fun, lively spot. I'll definitely be back for more bites and cocktails.

We got there at 11 we were seated immediately and it took them about 30 minutes to take our order. Not to mention that the original girl who came to talk to us, was only able to take our drinks and she told us that another server would come back to get our actual food order. The mocha oaxaqueño was actually pretty good. The actual food I got was all right. To be honest it's a little strange when you go to a restaurant and the coffee is better than the actual plate. I got the chilaquiles, normally when you get this plate anywhere else, everything is kind of mixed together, which gives everything a good flavor. In this case the eggs were separated from the chorizo, which was also kind of separated from the actual chilaquiles. Since they were all separated, you couldn't really taste the flavor on the eggs or the chorizo of the Chilaquiles. Therefore, I was not a fan of the dish. I will say that while we were there, no one came to check on us or ask us if we liked our food or if we needed anything. The place inside is very loud and packed. Anyways, it was a little strange to eat somewhere where the server hardly talks to you in a restaurant that is kind of empty. I'm not really sure that the food was good enough for me to come back. But the coffee was definitely good. This would be something I would probably buy for a takeout.

It was late, i guess 45 min before closing. Looking at the menu it all looked great, creative etc. i asked the server shot the food and he said oh everything is made from scratch., etc. we're got two bowls, the dragon bowl and the roast beef bowl to go. We got them home and opened them up. The roast beef bowl was described as being served over a bed of home made mashed potatoes topped with home made gravy and special horseradish sauce. Tasting it, it was a way too salty and the meat was so mushy it blended way too seamlessly with the brown gravy to my taste, ie it was all a mush of sauce over more mushy mashed potato! But i preferred its flavor over the dragon bowl, but definitely did not taste like a home made beef gravy from scratch, it was on the overly thickened by corn starch side, with that fake bouillon taste. Dragon Bowl looks good, topped with crunchy cashews that had slight rancid taste, and fresh green onion. And sadly, the chunks of chicken in it were hard, ie tough, precooked for who-knows-how-long-tasting; old tasting. And the sauce was way too sweet. I was disappointed with the $35 bill. We took the food to go. Once we tasted it at home we basically threw it all in the garbage. What a waste but, yuck. Sorry! Ambiance: The place was empty of patrons, and felt like it was closing now even though they still have 45 min. Our two bowls were ordered were handed to us super fast after ordering, like it took no time to prepare, explaining the poor flavor and quality we experienced, plus look at what others have written about all this premade fast food. I want to give one star, but I'll give 2, in benefit of the doubt they were trying to close early and rushed things vs if it were earlier in evening with more clientele.
