If you're in Rohnert Park and looking for an interesting and delicious bite, try Azalo! The owner said it's Latin American fare. We were just a short distance away and I remembered eating here some time ago. We decided to sit indoors this time since it was a rather warm afternoon. The owner is incredibly sweet, welcoming and helpful. She brought us large glasses of ice water which I appreciated. Their menu is quite extensive with lots of great photos of the dishes. We decided on: - Conchinita pibil (Caribbean style pork) quesadilla meal which comes with black beans on top of white rice - Chicken gyro with fries - Uno y Uno (grilled pork chop & sliced steak) with salad, fries, plantain, rice and black beans. The owner brought out a complimentary dish of thick chips and two dips. Very tasty and not greasy at all. I was quite impressed when she brought out our food. I had a bite of my husband's quesadilla and the handmade corn tortilla was notably delicious. Nice and crispy corn tortilla and it tasted amazing. Our daughter enjoyed her Uno y Uno plate. Her pork chop and steak were sliced thin and flavored well. I had the chicken gyro with hot and crispy fries. Also quite delicious. Everything tasted homemade and freshly made. My husband ordered coffee and the owner made it fresh using beans from Costa Rica. He said it was a medium roast and smooth. Several people came inside to dine while we were there. The food here is great and there's a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, which really surprised me given that this place is pretty unassuming. We had a couple of their burritos and they were really good. However, in terms of service, there was a period over several months where I tried calling to place an order and they never picked up on any of the times I called (which, according to their website, were during regular business hours). Their food was that good though, so I always kept trying to call in an order every now and then. A wonderful eatery, full of heart. The lady boss pours her heart into the restaurant to honor her late husband, whom I was told was well-loved and missed by his employees. When we went, they were doing the murals themselves to honor him. I can't wait to see how the murals turn out - what a great place to treat their employees like family. First time here, and my husband says, "I wish we lived closer. We would come here all the time!" We loved the food, the service, the ambiance. Everything is touched with love. Never judge a book by its cover! Strip mall restaurants are always a crap shoot and Azalo had some high praise before I had a chance to try it. From the outside and inside, nothing that will blow your socks off, but then again it's a restaurant, I am hungry and ready to eat rather than worrying about aesthetics. Menu is not terribly large, so figuring out what to eat is not going to be too difficult to be honest. Staff is welcoming and happy to give you the lay of the land with all of their special plates. I of course opted for the popular Cochinita Pilil Plate, which the staff had recommended. The restaurant was not too full, so it came out pretty quick and looked divine! Quantity and quality were top notch! Definitely lots of flavors happening in that dish, highly recommend. Price point is amazing compared to other restaurants in the area. I can totally see why their is a local cult following for this restaurant to be honest. All and all, a great restaurant and cannot wait to re visit soon! read more

Pretty good I'd say. Service is friendly, helpful with any questions, water refills infrequent especially after food pops. Nifty micheladas though. I had gotten the mushroom quesadilla, and we got the plantains to share. The others ordered skewers themselves. The quesadilla was good though I probably wanted it a bit crunchier. The tortilla itself was quite tasty tho. For compatriots, the skewers worked well tho the chicken was a bit dry, and the veggie kabobs needed some seasoning. They had some nice sauces with kick though. They're dog friendly which helped out a lot and was a good spot for hangout and dinner. We'll stop by again to try other things sometime. read more

My wife and I had a great experience at this small but nice little Mexican restaurant. Our host and server (who I presume is the owner) provided excellent service. This place has quite a bit of outdoor seating, but we ate indoors. The restaurant is sparsely decorated but very clean. The menu is large. I had the Burrito with chicken. The portions are huge! Mine was stuffed with black beans, rice, chopped chicken, and other ingredients. It was delicious. And it was just as good the next day at room temperature in San Francisco International Airport while we waited for our flight. This is a solid choice in the Santa Rosa area. I love the beans and rice. My kids just recently ate some of their meat dishes... the carne Asada needs some work. I don't believe a cheese quesadilla should ever be priced at 11$ and the fact that I'm a vegetarian I went with it.. Lower your prices on certain menu items that you know you are being crazy with. Amazing find! Happened upon this place on our way to Napa and it did not disappoint! I had the cochinita tacos which were delicious--juicy and flavorful. My husband ordered the bisteca asada plate. The black beans and rice were absolutely delicious! The fries tasted like McDonald's used to taste before they took out all the trans fat. The steak was quite tasty and the grilled onions added to it. We didn't care for the plantains which were a bit dry and lacked flavor--soooo gooood. The service was quick and everyone was friendly. A nice find in a small strip mall. Service was fantastic- the waitress' first day on the job and she was so kind and attentive. Ordered the birria tacos and they were delicious! We have been to this restaurant twice and our recent visit was very disappointing. We decided to go with burgers this time. My husband got the Azalo! burger and I got the rustic burger. When it came out I liked how they put pickles, lettuce, and tomato on the side so you can decide whether you want it on your burger or not. The problem was that the burgers didn't taste great at all. It was super oily and unflavored. I could only taste cheese and a bun on my burger. My husband hated his burger, he didn't even finish it. For a 25$ burger, it definitely should've tasted much better! The fries that came with our order also didn't taste good. You can clearly tell that it was a frozen fries and pretty watery even. We didn't even eat it. We were so excited to eat here again after our first time but it didn't work out as we expected. The first time we came I had short ribs and it tasted amazing! I even gave the restaurant a 5-star rating and the review was sitting in my review drafts waiting to be written. This time we had a 2-star experience. Plus our waitress was like 30 minutes late so the chef had to take our order. When the waitress finally came, she messed up our water and brought it to us with ice, even tho we asked for no ice. I think that for such a high-rating restaurant on Yelp, this is not how the staff should behave. I'm not sure if we will be coming back anytime soon. read more
