Nice little cafe next to the library. They have all the standard illy coffee, along with a variety of bottled juice and milk. They also have a decent selection of pastries. Ample seating both inside and outside with some outlets available. A good place to wait out rush hour traffic, except that they close at 6. read more

My fav Café offering take-out only during Covid-19. They've also opened the place up to make sure air is flowing and not stagnant. Overall, I feel they've done their best to make the customer feel safe. As for the coffee...it's exactly what I'd expect from an Artisti del Gusto~ Balance is key for me when it comes to drinks. The finest whiskeys also merit their fine taste to perfect balance. They Illy's coffee they serve is made bold, rich, and how do I put it... clean. Review #177 - 2016 I've been here many years ago and haven't been back until recently when I came to meet up with my buddy, Tony, twice. The first time we showed up in the late afternoon and the owner was here so our drinks were made according to our preferences. I ordered an ice caffe latte and a cheesecake for myself and a tuna melt to go for my son. My drink was good, but my cheesecake was just ok. I think the almond flavor was too overwhelming for me. Although, my son did seem to enjoy his sandwich. The second time, we came back on a Saturday morning and there were two young men working who didn't seem to know exactly what they were doing. I ordered a large hot caffe mocha in their signature cup, but I ended up with a small and they didn't even bother to ask if I wanted my drink sweetened. I had to add a few packets of sugar and it still didn't help. I guess we might give them a third chance when the occasion arises... read more

I had just completed a training nearby and had a little time to spare before meeting a friend for lunch down the street. I went for a short walk and then found myself here. They have wifi, functioning air conditioning, soothing music, iced coffee, and water in a big dispenser thing by the door. All the things I was looking for that particular day. If I didn't already have lunch plans, I would have been tempted by the delicious looking sandwiches being prepared and served quickly to the folks next to me. read more

I've worked in Orinda for over three years now and I can't bring myself to get coffee anywhere else in town. There's at least three Starbucks, and a Peets, but they just don't compare to the warm and friendly service at Teatro. Also, congrats to them for being only one of a handful of ILLY signature cafe's. Kudos guys! Keep up the good work. TIP: They don't have loyalty cards, but they do give you a free drink after your tenth. Just make sure to give them your phone number so they can track your purchases (not in a creepy way). read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place! It's conveniently located under the Orinda Library, a few steps away from the Orinda community center and the park/playground. Basically, a lot of people deal with kids in this vicinity, so coffee in a walkable distance is perfect. There is the owner guy who is usually there. They have a yummy selection of baked goods such as lemon bars, mini cheesecake-looking things, cookies, cupcakes, SWEET STUFF! They also have bagel sandwiches. I like the hot chicken sandwich on an everything bagel. I believe they have breakfast sandwiches too. They brew Illy espresso. To me, the coffee/espresso flavor is very light. But caffeine is caffeine... :) I always get a "mocha Bianca". It's alright given the nice location and price. I love whip cream, and they don't have good whip cream here. Also, I've had a blended mocha Bianca and it wasn't very flavorful. Basically: it's a good little cafe when you're on the go or have a few minutes to spare. Parking: anywhere near the library or community center is a good idea! read more

**let me say that I never really write a yelp review. So me even writing a review says a lot I seriously love this place! I'll pretty sad that I didn't see this place sooner. It's such a short walk from my job and I can't help but come here everyday! Sandwiches are great! I had the avocado Swiss melt and it was so yummy! It's was pretty standard as far as ingredients (bread, slices of avocado,cheese,lettuce,tomato,pickles,onion,ect ) but it's was so delicious and pricing was good in my opinion! Coffee is great as well ice coffee was about $2-$3 and some change. They have a coffee bar where you put what you want in it. Today I tired out their hot coffee ,the mocha blanco, and it impressed me! Perfect amount of coffee and sweetness. You also can't beat the price. It's was 3ish for a medium. Filled me up and got me awake and going. Also, what I love love love about this place it the little desserts that they have ! I have a total sweet tooth and they have something for everybody! Cookies,brownies, macaroons, cheesecake galore! They're never dry and not tooo sweet For working in Orinda for about 3 years you get sick and tired of having really nothing to eat,at least for me. Went in for a late lunch around 1pm. I wanted a roast beef sandwich but was dissapointed when they told me they were already sold out..really?! If your a cafe that makes sadwiches..I would think that roast beef is the one to be fully stocked up on.. Anyhow I settled for a tuna melt. I didn't get a chance to try any coffee..I would say I'll try next time but I highly doubt there will be a next time for me.. Just for the fact that you sold out of roast beef by 1pm..not too great for a spot that really only makes sandwiches. Otherwise, cafe was bright, food was decent and staff was nice. read more

Visited yesterday, Aug 5th. Lots of tables outside but no one is wearing a mask. People chatting, doing work, hanging out but not one mask in sight? To be fair the barista was wearing a mask, and I was wearing a mask, but that was it. Also, how can you be a legitimate cafe when the barista doesn't know how to make a cortado or macchiato? Is this just a fancy Starbucks where every drink is basically the same? Maybe if you are local and want to stop in and pick up something to go it might work but I see it as an unsafe place to stay and enjoy a café. read more

Sadly, this place is no longer a caFÉ. Just a cafe. Gone are the friendly baristas who know my little niece's name. Gone are the large cookies in a variety of chocolate chip flavors, replaced by small, stale, discount store boxed chocolate chip cookies. I guess I came on an off-day for one of the servers since I've not had any trouble with service since last. Sometimes they are rather slow, but this is easily avoidable by calling in your order. Also, the new menu items (avocado & hummus sandwich specifically) are BOMB in my opinion and still cheap which is good for my wallet! read more

If this was about the coffee alone, I would give this 3 stars. Illy coffee, pretty drinkable. Service however - a quick hello on arrival then the barista seemed to forget we were there. After a good 5 minutes, she takes our order. Then makes a sandwich (which we didn't order). Umm... where's our coffee? Suddenly she kicks into action and both our coffees were served. There is a difference between the slow food movement and crappy service. Caffe Teatro might want to review this concept. read more

It has been consistently great - sandwiches are great, bagels, muffins, every coffee, latte, mocha I ever ordered has always been yummy. Been coming here for about six months. This place is a great little gem next to the library. Wonderful coffee, very smooth. They only use Illy coffee. Yummy baked goods and awesome sandwiches with real meat and cheese not that processed stuff you find at other places. The people that work here are very nice and friendly. Inside and outside seating; I've seen several people sitting outside with their dogs. Lots of parking places for your car or bike. Inexpensive too, I usually get a half sandwich with cheese added and an iced coffee for only about $7. read more

I was very unhappy to order gelato that was so rock hard that not only did my spoon break when taking my first bite, but I had to ask them to microwave it for 10 seconds to make it manageable -- and even then it tasted more like microwaved ice cream and less than any form of gelato. If you can't freeze and care for gelato properly - don't serve it. Yes, this experience was disappointing to say the least. read more

I'm shocked at how many good reviews there are of this place! They have a handful of sandwiches, and only the grilled cheese is vegetarian. It's Orinda, can we have a couple of veggie options? The grilled cheese contains two slices of soft bread with a little bit of melted cheese inside. Let me clarify, there's no grilling done to this sandwich. I'm not quite sure how they get the cheese to melt without the bread touching a pan/grill, but they do. I also ordered an espresso brownie and a lemon bar to share with my hubby later on. We were both so disappointed with how unexciting the espresso brownie was. The lemon bar was a little bit better, but definitely not worth the $2.75. Will not return. read more

As an avid Starbucks goer I was a little weary at first, however, Caffe Teatro blew my socks off! The espresso is phenomenal! I was impressed to learn they are only one of a handful of signature Illy distributers. The staff is actually made up of college students/graduates... not like you're average coffee shop being ran by teenage baristas! You can tell they all take great pride in what they do, they even go out of their way to remember you and your order; always making up great suggestions to change up your day! Beyond coffee they serve other great beverages, delicious sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, etc. Some other perks is that they are very kid friendly, free wi-fi, economic friendly prices, free drink on every 10 you buy, and the location is perfect to walk around; library upstairs, community park, shopping, grocery, etc. I highly recommend Caffe Teatro! read more
