The chips are fresh and light while the dip was delicious. My wife had the Steak Modega with peel & eat shrimp while I had the pork steak with baked potato and okra. Our waitress Stephanie was great. She sold me on a loafed baked potato and it did not disappoint. She constantly checked on us to make sure everything was good. One thing easily noticible is how friendly all the employees are. My wife and I decided to give this place another shot. Last time was below par, but not everything was a disaster and we had gift cards so we decided why not. We came in around 5:45 on a Friday evening. There was no wait, we were sat immediately by a very friendly hostess. Last time I made the mistake of venturing out from my typical menu choice, so I decided to dig back into my roots and check out the burgers and fries. A semi-friendly waitress came over and took our order. I wasn't impressed with her, but I know this place has some A1 servers based on prior experience. I ordered the Mary Mother Triple Bacon Burger with fries. The food came out around 15 minutes later, which was already a gigantic step up from last time. And whoa. This burger was no joke. I mean look at the pic. Everything was perfect about it. It was huge. It was smoked. It was pork. It had PAR FRIED BACON on it. It was on Texas toast! I mean if that's not enough, it was covered in gringo cheese sauce. And the fries were seasoned and hot and crisp and just perfect. This is literally the perfect meal. I want to kick my own butt for not ordering this the first time. The pork burger was smoked and at a perfect cook level. The bacon was crispy but not burnt and the cheese was excellent. The Texas toast got a little soggy, but it was the glorious greasy cheesy soggy that fat kids like me dream of. Like I said, I wasn't impressed with our waitress tonight, but based off the last visit, I know there are some amazing servers so I'm keeping this update a 5 star! Overall, I'm an idiot for trying new things. Don't get the pork steaks, unless you spend the money for the one from the smoke shack. Don't upgrade to onion rings because their fries are incredible. Watch your bank account when dining here. My wife and stopped in on a Sunday and were charged almost $400 "by error" for our meal. The manager I spoke with the next day seamed as if this was not a big deal as did the person I spoke with the second day. Maybe not having access to your money is not a big deal to you but it is to me. Luckily we had enough in that account to cover "the error" As far as the food it was really nothing special. The toasted raviolis lacked any real flavor and the garlic knots seamed to be the pretzels without salt covered in garlic butter. In the description it said it was hand carved turkey. I was expecting to have real turkey, like the thicker slices. It was just deli meat turkey. Not even very warm. I could've made that sandwich myself at home. I had just had better expectations to the type of turkey according to the description. This was not hand carved, it was the deli sliced. I certainly would not have ordered that sandwich if I knew it was just deli turkey. This is the reason for the four stars instead of five. Really 2 1/2 stars. I'm round up for the service and the cool building. We gave this place a second chance after a so-so first visit and were underwhelmed. I ordered a dirty martini and the first thought I had with the first sip was "sprite". It was slightly sweet and faintly limey. It was not anything close to a dirty martini. Our waitress was very nice about it and had it remained. It was marginally better, but still not a dirty martini. On to the food. I had a roast beef sandwich with au jus. It was a little fatty, in my opinion although I'm sure others would think it was fine. It had a strongish smoke taste. The au jus was good. The bread got soggy really quickly where the meat was. Fries were crispy!! My daughter got the cheese steak salad. It's weird that her complaint was that there wasn't enough lettuce. She said it was ok, she probably wouldn't order it again. Other daughter got the seven holy founder's chicken wrap (no cheese/allergy). She said it was fine but dry. Better after she added ranch dressing. She wouldn't order again. Husband got the 1/2 chicken. He liked it. I tried the beans he got for a side and thought they had a really good taste. He ate every bit of his sweet potato, so I'm assuming it was delicious. The design of the restaurant is really cute. It's a large place. The outside patio looks great. The waitress we had was excellent and attentive and helpful. The biggest reason for my mediocre rating and why I don't think I'll return: It's pricey, for food that's just not great. $11.99 for the cheesesteak salad. $11.99 for an ok roast beef sandwich. Wow! My husband and I were driving by and at 2pm on a Saturday they had plenty of cars in the parking lot- so, we thought we would give Cafe Telegraph a try... I'm so glad we did! The food was amazing! We had the Smoked Meatloaf- which beats all other meatloaf you have ever had -hands down! The tomato sauce on top was crazy good and it wasn't just ketchup! We also tried a cheese burger and were not disappointed there either- fresh and hand patted! Yummy good food! However it took quite awhile for a server to came to our table and even then only bc we asked a hostess. Finally a waiter from next section came over. There was just 2 of us so should be easy. I ordered Virginia Blue burger with sweet potato fries. Burger slightly overdone but still good. I thought they were skimpy on the fries esp since it was an up charge for those. My husband got a Reuben sandwich and bowl of baked potato soup. Soup was good but it was almost room temp. He did not at all for the Reuben. There was no sauerkraut and corned beef was thin (really thin) sliced. Our waiter was nice and we appreciated him taking on our table. The first time some of our items were overcooked but last night we ordered takeout $50 worth and our chicken was so overcooked my kid hurt her tooth bitting into it as well as our potato skins and our ravioli all overfried. The pizza crust tasted burnt as well! The only thing we ended up eating was the pasta. I was not happy i spent $50 on overcooked food and still had to run to fast food so my kids had dinner....they would not touch another bite! Not Happy at All!!!!! I was very pleasantly surprised and VERY pleased at the interior of this restaurant, not knowing what kind of decor I'd find in a restaurant in Lemay. The bar is especially spacious and made with gorgeous reclaimed wood salvaged from a flood in Nashville and a tree in Perryville. Dining alone on a Sunday evening, I chose to sit in the bar area but at a high top; in short order a perky female bartender greeted me immediately ( 8 pm so not too busy). Each item on the menu is named after a local elementary or high school (public and parochial) or First Responder district which makes for interesting reading of the menu. You have a huge variety from which to choose starting with appetizers to sandwiches, soups/chili, burgers, pasta and entrees. Based on a review I read on Yelp, I opted for Pasta Con Broccoli -- yep, the 1/2 order was plentiful. The broccoli was cooked perfectly crisp-tender. The sauce was very flavorful without an overpowering amount of garlic to it or tasting like flour. The broccoli pieces were very large and made it look like not much broccoli in the dish, but once I cut them up, I was pleased with how it looked -- would have liked more mushrooms. Overall, 2 thumbs up on that dish along with a cold Stella Artois from the tap ( they have a very large selection of beers on tap). Plenty of TV screens to watch whatever is the Sport-du-Jour. The perky bartender hustled from bar to tables and checked on me often but without being a pest or overly friendly. Wish I would have caught her name. I will definitely be back. Cafe Telegraph is a traditional stop for us when we visit Jefferson Barracks to reconnect our gratitude and appreciation for the generations of men, women, families, who've dedicated their lives for life and liberty. Our most recent visit was Memorial Day, shortly after re-opening from COVID shutdowns. I firmly believe in freedom of choice and the self-responsibility that goes hand in hand. That being said, I was a bit confused and disappointed by the choices of the staff at Cafe Telegraph. My observation was most employees wore masks, but only a couple wore it consistently and as intended, over nose and mouth. Most chose to wear their masks under their chins; clearly an option, but what is the point? Sanitization of tables and the bar area wasn't happening between seatings unless you specifically asked for it. In short, I was disappointed to see this restaurant and its employees choose to care for the safety of its community in this manner. I will always choose and respect free will but also know, with every choice there is responsibility of care. Every choice has a cost. We made the choice to stay and continue our traditional stop. The restaurant is eclectic in construction, unique in using it's building blocks with local history. The food was good and happy we supported small business in our community. read more

The house salad is unique and delish, and you can get the okra appetizer without the cajun spice if you ask. We went to this restaurant last Saturday night and was told it would be a 1/2 hour wait. While waiting I observed the staff. Everyone was performing in a professional manor making sure that all bases were covered. Our wait was 28 minutes and upon being seated we were immediately brought a glass of water. The waitress was prompt to take our order and the food arrived in a timely manor. The pork steak was prepared with a nice coating of bbq sauce and even with the large crowd it was hot out of the kitchen. Would recommend this restaurant. read more
