We were thrilled Cafe This Way opened at breakfast - 6:30am unlike the other spots that don't open until 8am or later. (What????) The food here is very good and they have a very robust menu of breakfast options and lots and lots of seating - outdoors and indoors. It's very charming and the staff is very friendly and super efficient. Definitely the best breakfast we had in town, highly recommended. I had the Monte Cristo (delicious!) and our breakfast companions were thrilled with their lattes, country breakfasts and eggs. Highly recommend you check this place out, they're great!

Cafe This Way was the perfect breakfast experience we were looking for! I got blueberry pancakes and a side of scrambled eggs and my friend got their special, blueberry bread pudding. Our food was perfect and somehow better than we even expected. Great diner type coffee! The vibe in here is super cute, especially as a book lover! We waited for a short time for a party of 3 on a Wednesday morning off season, definitely worth whatever wait. Service is good and quick.

Strong latte and delicious breakfast. Came in at about 6:45am and it was a bit full! Luckily i was alone so i sat at the bar and was quickly taken care of. Parking is paid on the street if you want to be nearby. The restaurant itself is cute. you walk up gravel to get to the host table to get a seat. they have merch you can get, has a book theme. Food didn't take long to come out, and with some spk, the eggs were exactly what i needed.

This was my favorite breakfast while visiting Bar Harbor. There is plenty of seating inside and outside, and we had a lovely table under a shady tree on the patio. I had one of the smoothies and muffins on special, along with a breakfast BLT. Everything was fresh and delightful. My wife's breakfast sandwich bagel came out burnt. She didn't want to send it back, so that's on her, but it shouldn't have been able to leave the kitchen that way.

Food was fairly priced and we were seated quickly for how crowded the restaurant was. The pancakes were good (as advertised) and the portions were large... but the service was a miss for us unfortunately. After we ordered, the food came out quickly - but our server was never to be seen again. We even had to flag a different employee down to close out and even then we did not see her again.

Delicious breakfast spot with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Loved how the restaurant is close to downtown but was still quiet and quaint in the morning. The blueberry pancake had crispy edges which was unique and we loved it and their Bloody Mary was perfectly spicy. Our server was kind and quick with the food.

Nice staff. Attentive and fast. The food was good. The grilled muffin had sugar baked in on the top making it very sweet. I'm not a breakfast person, but my husband said the monte cristo lived up to it's popular reputation. The syrup was really good. The ham was surprisingly very thick. Many, many tables and very popular breakfast location.

Beautiful little restaurant! Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of their menu items. Food was yummy! I had the Eggs Benedict and a side of potatoes. The potatoes were nice and soft in the inside and the outside had the perfect crunch. The eggs were delicious! My mother in law had the blueberry pancakes and I can honestly say it was the most I saw her eat all trip. She absolutely love them! If you're in the area, it's definitely a must stop!

Highly recommend eating here. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. Turn around time is fast so wait shouldn't be long. Best blueberry pancakes I had in the area!

If you are looking for an incredible breakfast spot in Bar Harbor, Cafe This Way is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with friendly and efficient service. The lobster Benedict was outstanding, but the star of the meal was the blueberry pancakes, which were the best blueberry pancakes I've ever had. Thanks again to the staff at Cafe This Way for such an extraordinary breakfast experience. We will definitely be back (every morning) the next time we're in Bar Harbor.

I loved Cafe This Way! It definitely lives up to the Bar Harbor hype. I got to the restaurant around 8am on a Sunday morning in the fall, and only waited about 15 minutes to get a table. They had a comfy waiting area nearby the host stand. The host also did a great job of making sure you could hear your name being called. We sat in the outdoor seating, which was covered and really a great Maine experience. Service was friendly, and the food came out very quickly. It felt like a Gilmore Girls/Stars Hollow-esqe scene. I ordered the benedict, coffee, and the blueberry pancake. The pancake was one of the best things I've eaten in Maine. It was a perfectly crispy on the outside, thin and absolutely delicious pancake. To top it off there were real Maine blueberries and real maple syrup. It was simply delightful. If you find yourself in Bar Harbor, make sure to go to Cafe This Way.

Ask the Community - Cafe This Way

I don't see it on the menu anymore- does this place still have lobster eggs Benedict?

Yes. They have a different menu, like a seasonal one, physically displayed inside the cafe.

    Are the home fries fried?

I believe so--I've posted a picture of them with the blueberry pancakes for you to see.

The staff just doesn't acknowledge you as a customer until they are ready to take your order. I expected better. We were going on a whale watch tour next door and wanted to get some good food to take with us...we would be disappointed. I paid $15 for the smoked salmon bagel and it was horrible. Couldn't even taste the salmon let alone the smoke. It was mostly onions and tasted of onions and cream cheese more than anything. My coffee was $4 and lacked complexity, refills were $1. The blueberry muffin was gluten-free and for all of the stuff we got with blueberries in it while in Maine, these did not taste fresh or local. The English muffin was the worst thing...maybe it was the gluten free bun, maybe it was the toppings...just not great. The one that that was good was the Choco boom. It was like a breakfast chocolate milkshake. All this cost $50 so once you add in a tip which it defaults to 25, 20, and 18 as your options, it's a $60 breakfast that wasn't as good as a hotel breakfast. The inside of the store is super small, I'm assuming most people want to eat outside and look at the bay. But the inside is so small even with the short line (2-3 people in front of us) the layout was very awkward and people were getting mixed up where the line was supposed to go. I'll skip this place next visit to Bar Harbor.

Great stuff and the buttery grilled flamed pita added a beautiful touch Cadillac fries: crispy fries with melty cheese, hot sauce, bbq sauce, chipotle mayo and toooed with bacon. We inhaled these. Mac + rac: fall off the bone rips and the Mac was killer. Mixed in with street corn added a great change up and all went so well together. We got right in on a Sunday morning, checked into the front desk and let us sit where ever we wanted. Immediately after sitting down we were helped and got our orders in soon after. One of the most impressive parts was the system the waitresses have with the kitchen staff. I almost licked my plate clean after inhaling the blueberry pancakes with the blueberry syrup (a must and was warm syrup.) I was in heaven! So many blueberries, butter and perfectly cooked. Bacon was perfectly crisped, rye bread coated in butter, normal diner scrambled eggs, very tasty fresh home fries, and a delicious hot coffee. I left extremely stuffed! As stated above, the fish and chips is the thing to get here. The fish is clearly fresh (not frozen), cooked to order and has an almost unbelievable level of perfect crisp on the batter that coats it. It's also wonderful to see that they're serving it with some fresh-cut fries as there's such an overwhelming improvement in both taste and texture that you get with fresh (never frozen) fries. The fries are also perfectly cooked with a good crisp on the outside, but still fluffy potato in the middle. They then went the extra step and have house-made tartar sauce and slaw to go with it.
