Chill and approachable bistro with serious culinary chops. If you're looking for fine dining without losing the charm of a low-key cafe, Cafe This Way is a really good choice. True to its name, the restaurant is tucked into a cute little cul-de-sac. Inside it is pretty open and airy, but also very cozy. The staff is patient and professional in explaining the daily specials, of which there were several. They had an interesting fish of the day with some spice to it, which did not disappoint. They also have a decent assortment of local beers, including the Bar Harbor Brewing Stout (if you're really strategic, you'll pair it with a dessert). Just a really nice dinner, all in all. I rank them in the following order with a possible rating of zero to five stars. 2 Cats 5 stars Jeannie's Great Maine Breakfast 4 stars Jordan's Blueberry Pancakes 3.5 stars Cafe This Way 3.5 stars 2 Cats by far is the best place for breakfast. Their mildly spicy home fries are pre boiled and cooked to perfection. Scrambled egg mix was fluffy and not greasy. Excellent corned beef hash. The spicy country sausage was grilled not greasy and delicious. Fresh homemade biscuit and excellent coffee. Jeannie's Great Maine Breakfast excels in service. They're just plain nice people. The blueberry pancake was delicious. Homemade oat toast outstanding. The home fries need improvement. They seemed to have been pre cooked in a fryer and then left too long in a warmer leaving them too dry. I much prefer grilled home fries vs fried in oil. Coffee was a little bland. Jordan's Blueberry Pancakes confused me. Their name suggests good pancakes but if I had to guess I believe they're made from an instant mix vs made from scratch because they're bland. The blueberry sauce was superb but wasted on a stack of disappointing pancakes. The coffee and grilled home fries were very good. The surprisingly best thing about Cafe This Way was the blueberry pancakes with a rich and crispy texture. The coffee was also excellent and their dining room very comfortable. I got there early they appeared to be over staffed the dining room only half full but they sat me and never came back. After spending about five minutes watching the staff stand around talking to each other I finally walked over and asked to be waited on. The service never got better. My issue with Cafe this Way is their overuse of oil. The fried home fries and the scrambled egg mix were greasy. The sausage was actually deep fried. Definitely not my preference. read more

If you are looking to satiate your lobster fix, the lobster trio is a good choice. 3 versions of a lobster roll, what's not to like? They also won me over with the eco-friendly straws. I'm not usually a sucker for butter but this I wanted to lick out of the ramekin. Bread was perfect after a day of wandering in Acadia park. After spending the past few months paying for overpriced brunches and drinks, I thought I had gotten over most of my sticker shock, but it was still jarring to pay $28 for seared tuna and chilled noodles on the side. Granted, the tuna was cooked perfectly and I loved the noodles and hey, it was definitely a "treat yourself" kind of week. I know, I know, I'm a stingy scrooge, but I thought the portion size didn't justify the price. Loved the ambiance and the cheery sign. After getting too dressed up for Side Street the night before, I pared my dress code down to T-shirt and athletic shorts but both the other patrons and the waitstaff here were dressed very well. read more

Nope, no battle here folks, 2 Cats is the winner. The eggs were a bit flat and not rounded, they use basil here instead of scallion. The English muffin was a bit burnt on the edge and it was semi hard. Their home fries are ordinary, it doesn't stand out like the ones at 2 Cats. The eggs Benedict might be cheaper here but they give you less lobster and the food isn't nearly as good as 2 Cats. Shoutout to the corn beef hash though, never thought corned beef could taste that good so this place earned an extra star. Honestly I would say 3.5 for the rating but I preferred rounding down because 4 means I am a fan which I'm not. read more

Made it a special point to get there on this year's trip after not getting there last year. Raved about it before we got there. The location is nice, went early so there were ample tables, I believe they expanded their indoor / outdoor space. However, food was not good. Eggs meh at best, corned beef hash was basically inedible and how is that even possible? They didn't refill my blah coffee unless I flagged them and it wasn't crazy busy or anything. Just super sad. It's a good sign when you arrive for Sunday brunch, and there is a 40-minute wait. We put our name on the list and went for a walk... They were pretty on target with their wait time... a table was ready for us at just about 40 minutes. The place has a great vibe and decor. I ordered the McThisWay Breakfast Sandwich. This is a good sit down breakfast place in Bar Harbor. It's dog friendly in their outdoor patio. It's great that they allow dogs, but I didn't feel the friendliness. I felt that they were annoyed we brought our dog. Now the outdoor seating seems great for little dogs. However, our guy is a big golden retriever. Not as comfortable for him and he, no matter what we did, seemed awfully close to the other tables. Good thing they were good sports. I had the Oatmeal and fruit cup. Last night, 7/8/21, service was the star of the show at CTW. Our host and waiter, Tony (according to the bill; I'm terrible and forgot what he said his name was), was fantastic. Readily available, funny, welcoming, knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, and seemingly everywhere at once. He was the maestro of the dining room and I was extremely impressed. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Food was very good as well. My 10 yo son is like Mikey (that's a reference for the old timers) and hates everything. He said the cheese burger was the best he's ever had. I had the lamb sliders and they were delicious. Lamb dishes are my test for new (for me) restaurants and these were exceptional. The flavor of the yogurt, mint and (pickled?) onions were perfectly balanced against the gaminess of the lamb. At $16 for 2, my only criticism would be to offer 3 for $24. I left wanting more. My wife had a steak dish that was perfectly cooked and layered with tomatoes, prosciutto, mozzarella and I don't know what else. She loved it and I picked at the garnishes, which were delicious. We had no wait to get a table. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and will be back on our next trip to Bar Harbor. read more

The restaurant proved to be much larger than it appeared from the outside, but we ended up being seated in a back room though we held a reservation. My wife ordered blackened medium rare tuna that included a jicama-orange salad and lime-avocado crème. The tuna was served cold so it was sent back to the kitchen. After a long wait, the waitress brought out a 2nd plate that had been sitting too long. She returned minutes later saying she brought out the wrong plate and put the original plate on our table. The tuna was now well done and barely room temperature. I was more successful with my entree, Brazilian Flavors - shrimp, scallops and mussels in a tomato-coconut broth with veggies and rice. The seafood was generous, but the broth would have benefited from a heavier hand with the spices. read more

My husband and I were so happy to find Cafe this Way on Yelp. We read it was a great breakfast spot, but we were passing by it one evening and the name jogged my memory, so we decided to try it for dinner. After a few days in bar harbor of eating less than stellar meals, this was a godsend! We both got the zucchini and squash "pasta" with mushrooms because we had been eating out all over Maine for 6 days and were feeling like we needed some veggies. You guessed it. The noodles were actually zucchini and the dish was perfect; meaty mushrooms, pesto, and toasted polenta triangles. I was so full but still tried to eat every, last bite. We liked it so much that we went for breakfast the next morning. There was a line out the door, but they had self-serve coffee while you wait! How great is that? Then I got the blueberry pancakes: omg. Too bad this was my last morning in bar harbor. I would have been here for these everyday. Also we got the fruit bowl. This place is amazing and has some of the best prices I've seen in the Bar Harbor area. My friend and I came here after a hike at Acadia National Park. After being seated rather quickly, we checked out the menu. I decided to go with a "McThisWay" breakfast sandwich and one blueberry pancake. The sandwich was exceptional. It included two fried eggs, two or three pieces of Canadian bacon (you choose your meat), tomatoes, and cheddar cheese on a large English muffin. It also came with homefries for about $11. Total steal for the area. The pancake was fluffy in the middle but has crispy edges. Super buttery and super delicious. I 100% recommend this place if you're visiting. Their only open for breakfast and dinner so be prepared and check their hours beforehand. read more

We came here for dinner and it was one of our top 5 meals anywhere. We were excited that they were offering small plates. We asked our server, Penny to decide how to stagger and serve the few plates that we ordered. We had a bottle of wine and had a question about one of the whites. Penny came back with a suggestion from one of the owners of a white Bordeaux as well as offering that if we didn't like the bottle she would drink it later that night. What an offer!! Then came the spring rolls (crab meat and lobster) and fish cakes. The spring rolls were my favorite. Both of these had a little spice and complimented each other. We then had the arepa and the Brussels sprouts. These were both fantastic. We then ordered a port wine for dessert with a chocolate peanut butter tort. What a fantastic way to end the meal. I came here while on vacation in the beginning of September, and loved this place so much we ended up coming here for breakfast 2 of our 3 mornings in Bar Harbor. You MUST get the blueberry pancakes - they are the best I ever had! They are fried so the edges are just crispy, and full of blueberries. Not to mention very generous portions! Other good options are their smoked trout omelet, various egg benedicts - granola is just OK. Service was super friendly too.
