Just when you think a place can't surprise you. I got the seasonal quiche for the first time (onion, mushroom, spinach) which was fantastic - gooey, nice crust, flavorful. I got it with the iced tea which is sweetened, as part of the brunch combo. Not too sweet but be aware.
Food (5/5) - Ordered the French toast, croque monsieur, and French onion soup - I'm normally not a French onion soup type of person, but this soup was so freaking good. I ate every last drop. Highly recommend - The French toast was soooo delicious as well. Very soft and custardy on the inside and not too sweet. It paired perfectly with the berry compote - the croque monsieur wasn't bad but I would recommend trying the first two over this one! I really enjoyed the salad that came with the sandwich though Service (5/5) - slow but I think they only had one server. It would be good if they had at least two but they were very friendly Ambiance (4.5/5) - small, intimate - they played very interesting music lol (hip hop, rap, edm which I enjoyed but thought it was kind of funny) - great for friends and had some seating for large tables!
GET THE FRENCH TOAST!! It's incredible and more than enough food for breakfast. It comes with berry compote, syrup, and six round bready toasts that are super soft, bouncy, and moist. Servers were really nice but it seems there is only one waiter so service took a while between ordering and receiving food. The interior is small with seating for about 15 people. It's simple and clean, feels like a local French bistro.
Stopped by there for a quick dinner and once again they just nailed all the dishes!!! We got this muscle appetizer for the first time and the white wine sauce was just so spot on. Also I was thinking they might have the best fries I've ever had. I love the aesthetic of this place and the service is always welcoming and attentive:)
The good: Food, speed, music choice (happy lively 80s-90s music)! The fries were salted just right and the Croque monsieur was just the right temperature! Ham was ok. Now, the rest: The menu on google maps, Apple Maps, and Yelp is an "old" menu with $5 less on most prices. Once you get inside, there's a QR code to a "new" menu with higher prices and a slightly different layout. And, I was overcharged on tax by a bit. I feel transparency is extremely important in what are the menu items -- The QR code could link to the same on-google menu, for example.
Everything on the menu sounds delicious here. One of my friends always wanted to try this restaurant so we finally got together for brunch. It's a homely place that serves the right amount of food (not too much, not too little) and makes it look aesthetic and delectable. The French toast comes on these skewers which is a fun take, and a good size for consuming. The croque monsieur is simple but covered in delicious cheese which a simple but actually well flavored salad on the side. The staff are kind, helpful, and timely and the conversation with my friends was great. Additionally, the music was really good - I didn't recognize a lot of the songs but it really helped the conversation and I do wish I asked for the playlist.
What a gem Cafe Triskell is! I wish I lived in the neighborhood. If I did, I'd visit often! This review is for brunch. There were other customers but there weren't people waiting to sit so the staff let us stay for a while which was nice. The brunch entrees come with a coffee, tea or soda, while some also have a mimosa as an option too. Ordered: French toast entree ($20)- my friend and I wanted to try this so we ordered an extra entree. This was the best decision we made! The French toast skewers are to die for! They come with stewed strawberries and syrup and we polished them off. At $20 this was a little pricey but I suppose it also comes with coffee, tea or a mimosa so that seems reasonable. We didn't get an extra drink since we were sharing this as an appetizer. Quiche ($15)- the quiche of the day had spinach and broccoli in it. It didn't have cheese but it was really good. The egg tasted custardy almost. It came with a side salad that had a nice dressing. I believe there was mustard in the dressing. The portion was a nice size! I have nothing bad to say about my meal at Cafe Triskell. Do yourself a favor, and give this place a try!
This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I've eaten here over several years, and each time the food has been delicious. They really know how to make crepes here! The buckwheat crepes are exactly what a good French crepe should be--thin, the slightest bit crisp while still retaining the pliability that allows you to cut and fold it over onto your fork. The ingredients inside are quality too. The restaurant itself is quite small, seating about 16-20 people including the seats outside, so often for brunch there's a short wait, but well worth it. The French toast skewers are a popular item and they happened to run out when our party of 4 arrived around 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon, so we got crepes (ham and cheese, and a goat cheese walnut, and I can't remember the last one), and a croque monsieur with a couple coffees. Yummy and affordable. Would come back for brunch here any day! My previous experiences with staff here have been good and nothing out of the ordinary, though this time it was a little odd how after being seated the waitress seemed to ignore us for a good 15-20 minutes although we tried to get her attention a couple times. It was extremely hard to flag her down to order, get the check, and pay the bill. Like she said all the right things and was helpful when she came to take the order but otherwise didn't respond when we tried to say anything before or after that point. I understand it was pretty busy for one person to be handling 8-10 tables but this is also pretty standard for most restaurants and the tables are small here. If she was trying to pace the service an explanation or a friendly gesture would be sufficient to impart a better experience to customers. If I were a new customer I might dock another star for service but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here and overall my experiences have been positive.
This is the best brunch place I ever been to. The food was impeccable. We got the croque monsieur which is a French sandwich with ham and cheese which was so buttery and cheesy. The salmon egg Benedict was so good, they give a lot more salmon than other places. Along with he meals it comes with coffee or tea. The place itself was super small and very understaffed so the service wasn't the fastest but the food definitely made up for it!
What a shame about the service. This is a lovely French bistro with a low-key presence on 36th Avenue, and we really enjoyed their beverages, French Onion soup, and baked dishes. However, the waitress, who couldn't speak French, ignored or forgot about us while we waited to place an order. Though I spoke with the owner afterward about his cuisine, French culinary background, and experience, this still left a bit of a lingering taste.in our mouths. Overall a worthwhile experience. They definitely are popular. Note: at one time, they were the only French eatery in Astoria; however, with the arrival of Chez Olivia, they may need to upgrade their menu and service
I had the opportunity to take a nice romantic lunch with my lovely wife. I found Cafe Triskell on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Ambience: It was only outdoor seating, which comprises 3 tables on the sidewalk. My wife tells me this is not uncommon in France, so I guess this is authentic. Food: House Specialty Homemade French Toast (5/5) - home made "toast" on skewers. The texture was more pancake than toast, but the flavor and texture...OMG. Croque Monsieur Sandwich (4/5) - A good representation. I am lactose intolerant to I skipped this one. Wife says it was good. Pan Seared Hudson Valley Duck Foie Gras (5/5) - Instagram worthy. This looks like a piece of art. Lucky that it tastes every bit as good as it looks. Frisee Salad (4/5) - not a big salad eater, but damn, this was good. Especially with the poached egg. Service: Friendly staff who took the time to explain items on the menu. There were only 3 tables, so you would expect them to be attentive. TL/DR: Can't wait to go back for some more french toast and Foie Gras.
One of my favorite spots in Astoria. It feels like a European cafe, with a cozy interior and a couple tables dotting the sidewalk. I recently came for brunch for 2 on a Sunday at 11:30, without a reservation, and had to wait about half an hour. The weather was pleasant and I parked myself on the bench outside, and it was worth it! I ordered a ham, scrambled egg, and swiss cheese crepe. The buckwheat crepe had a great texture and the fillings were tasty. Overall, it felt very simple in a good way. I wasn't sure if it would be enough food, but it was delicious and I was full and satisfied by the end. I also ordered a coffee with milk, which was fantastic!! Really good coffee.

Went on a Sunday afternoon for some crepes, and ended up getting brunch and crepes! They advertise brunch until 3pm, but on the menu, it says they serve brunch until 5pm. Brunch comes with either coffee, tea or soft drink. I had the Croque Madam, which comes with salad dressed with honey vinegrette dressing, and a bowl of potato chips. The Croque Madam was good, but not the best I've ever had. Husband had the norveigen eggs (?) not sure of the name, but basically, eggs benedict with salmon. It came with a choice of bacon or salad. He seemed to enjoy his dish and it is reasonably priced. We had nutella & banana crepes. It was good! great even! Can't believe I found a little creperie by our place! :D read more
We were in the area again & need a quick cappuccino & crepe. Got the poached pear w/ Choco sauce good, just wished my crepe more well done/toasty like I asked. Cappuccino was okay, but I just got back from Italy so my standards rose really high. Haha...anyways will be back to try others. Service was nice & they were understanding of our culture of loudness. Little French cafe in the middle of Little Brazil. Before heading to the movies, a friend and I wanted to grab a quick bite. We were debating between crepes and arepas, but the outdoor seating at Cafe Triskell helped us make our decision. The owners (I'm assuming) were so nice and charming, making sure we felt comfortable and giving recommendations on the menu. We opted to split the escargot and we each got our own crepes to split. The escargot was a nice start to the meal. I've only had it a few times, but it's never been a poor choice. Cafe Triskell's wasn't bad, but it was less buttery than I would've thought. It tasted like it was cooked in olive oil more so than butter. I did however appreciate the tomato and bacon chunks throughout. The starter bread that came out made for a good pairing. The coiled ones reminded me of a crustier, more buttery croissant. Our crepes were unfortunately a little underwhelming. While ordering, we asked our server if they could be made a meal of, to which he confirmed. It was definitely a lot smaller than I expected when it came out. My cream of spinach and chicken crepe, while tasty, was very deflated. My friend's goat cheese and chicken was much more full-looking. We split each others' crepes, and we both agreed the goat cheese was definitely better. Size aside, the goat cheese provided a much creamier, full-body flavor than the cream of spinach. Also, the chicken was much more pronounced and you could actually taste the meat you were eating. With the cream of spinach, it was all chopped and mixed together into a mush. This is definitely a cute little cafe to drop in on. The food is hit or miss, but because it's not unreasonably priced, it's not a bad choice to try on a lazy Saturday afternoon. read more

My friend and I passed by the restaurant many times. It was always busy. From the customers, the food was good. So we decided to give a try. This so a small and cute restaurant.We arrived there around 8. It was busy and there was only one waitress. She was really nice and friendly. We ordered Goat cheese salad, Mussels, Savory Crepes (Chicken lamb spinach and aged cheddar), and one special (don't remember the name of the special). In addition, we ordered red wine. I always tried dessert crepes. This was my first time to try the crepes with meat in it. It was so different and delicious. The ingredients were fresh. Overall the food was excellent. It was not salty and the portion size was just about right. I'm not a wine person, but my friend said the red wine was really good. I highly recommend this restaurant. I would love to go back.. The only problem is their business hours are so short. It would be better if they could have longer business hours..... read more

Bf and I were craving French, and Cafe Triskell was the perfect solution. This small restaurant definitely had a European feel and probably seats 20 people max. Luckily for us, there was no wait on a Saturday around 1:30PM! Prices were very fair, about $10-15 for an entree. They could easily charge more, but I'm happy they don't! The famous French onion soup was a nice mix of sweet and salty. The cheese was nicely baked and tasted slightly burnt; I wished there was more. I'm not sure if this is the best French onion soup I've ever had, but it's definitely one of the better ones. Escargot was very tender yet had a nice bite. It was very flavorful, not overwhelmingly buttery, but some pieces were saltier than others. The Croque Madame was a very simple ham, egg, and cheese sandwich but done perfectly. The bread could have been soggy with all the cheese, but it wasn't. And finally, the goat cheese vegetable crepe was humongous and had so much delicious goat cheese! I love goat cheese. Yum. I fell in love with this place after 1 visit, and I wish I lived closer so I can come here every week! Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. read more

One of the best French onion soups in town, and the mussels were delicious!!! So tasty and tender, very Yummy!!! The steak had a lot of flavor and the fries are unbelievable, very thin they were just awesome!!!.. The French beer GwinizDu it's out of this world! The color is amber and refreshing.. All I can say is "WOW", "SO GOOD" and "DELICIOUS". I can't stop saying these words while eating at Cafe Triskell. I ordered eggs Nordic and my boyfriend ordered the croque Madame; you must try it... It's out of this world. It's the best things I've ever had!!! Also, their crepes are soooo delicious!!!! We ordered the pumpkin crepes but I think it's seasonal because its not on the menu online. I ate here for brunch with my husband and best friend for SundayFunday, I was in the mood for Croque Monsieur and French onion soup. This spot is the place for my cravings! This was the first time to eat here, it's really small and a bit tight inside but it's like a hole in the wall kind of place that's worth it! It's authentic french food and the atmosphere is just a great vibe. Friendly staff and awesome. The French onion soup is so yummy, really fresh and not too strong just perfect for my palate. The onions are nice and sweet and the cheese compliments the soup so well. It's gooey-ness and bits of crunch on the side of the bowl is just heaven in my mouth. A must have here! The Croque Monsieur was yummy too, the bechamel sauce wasn't too strong and I could still taste the ham and cheese. Every bite was OMG delicious!! It also came with a delicious salad and potato chips. I really was satisfied with my meal. I was full and a good full not that feeling greasy and gross full. Also they only accept cash here and don't like substitution on orders, they have a picture of the chef noting how he hates substitution to orders and looks pretty scary on the pic since he has a big knife! I wish I took a picture of it because it was funny at the same time. This place definitely has a laid back and humor vibe which is major brownie points! CASH ONLY $$$ Prices are on the higher side for the neighborhood and portions.... For example, $20 for French toast? Eh. I wouldn't ever do that again but damn these cravings right? The French onion soup is indeed excellent but not the best I've ever had and the savory chicken lamb spinach crepe tasted a bit like curry. I haven't tried the dessert crepes yet but will be coming back here one more time to try it! Service is slowwwwwwwww. Friendly, but slow. We got our menus maybe 10 min after being seated. Rather small establishment with 7 tables (?) plus the bar seating area. read more

I came across this place on yelp after a two day intense French toast craving, and made the journey to astoria for a Sunday brunch with my mother. I was a bit sketched out by the B rating on the door but the food was pretty spectacular. I mean how cab you resist french toast on a skewer with berry compote and syrup? The restaurant itself is quite small and a bit too warm for my comfort but overall it was a wonderful brunch. read more
Get to the Chase: Pros: 1) Love the staff! Very friendly and had some good suggestions on what to do around Queens, as well as had a fun conversation about the Museum of Moving Images 2) AMAZING CIDER! One of the best i've ever had. Apparently it is shipped from Normandy and then sourced from a local beer distributor. The hard cider was pleasantly bubbly with a good kick, and yet well-balaned with various flavors of apple! (Too bad it's so expensive for the little amount that comes in a glass) 3) Thought only Brooklyn offered these amazingly delicious buckwheat crepes, but nope, this place has the perfect crepes!! $7 you can get a delicious banana and Nutella crepe! Came here for brunch today with a friend who lives in Astoria. Such a cozy place with kind and attentive servers and an authentic french feel. The owner is from a small town in France and is also the chef. We sat outside since it was a nice day. We had the french toast and the quiche and both were fantastic. Highly recommend. read more

Very cute place with a lot of charm. I tried the pumpkin apple crepe which was really good and it had a spicy kick to it that was surprisingly good. The crepes are very thin but large! I was intrigued by the menu and will definitely come back. btw CASH ONLY. read more

Hidden Astorian gem. Small, personalized, friendly chef and waitresses and oh! So amazing crepes! Love the healthful crepe - not white flour! The savoury salmon crepe was delightful as was the the sweet crepe with chocolate sauce and slivered almonds. The chef from Bretagne circles around and chats which I loved! read more

Small French restaurant full of character but also cozy and relaxing at the same time, Cafe Triskell was a pleasant surprise. Sitting right across from Cafe Arepas which I visited many times, it was so tiny I didn't realize it was there. Well, this place is going to be a come back to place for me. We came here just for the crepes and they were phenomenal. Lemon and sugar with berry compost was my order and boy oh boy it was everything I wanted. Especially the compost. Perfectly executed. Not too sweet and beautifully fragrant. Seems like it was flavored with lemon zest and/or ginger. The crepe it self was light and crunchy on the edges. I also shared my friend's almond and home made chocolate sauce and it was fantastic as well. I really can't wait to go back to try other dishes. read more

Charming, authentic, and quaint is the best way to describe this restaurant. We had dinner across the street then wandered over for crepes for dessert. We were fortunate to find a table on this establishment which seats less than 20 people. The room smelled of heavenly spices and butter. We ordered the Lemon crepe and a Banana Nutella whipped cream crepe. The crepes were incredibly thin with a crisp edge. The lemon flavor was full without being overwhelming. The nutella and banana were delicious but paled in comparison to the heavenly lemon crepe. Be sure to stop in if you're craving some authentic crepes! Be aware that it's cash only. read more

I have died and gone to heaven...or Paris. It takes a lot for me to give a place 5 stars, and saying that, if I could give this place 6 stars - I would. Hands down, THE BEST Croque Monsieur, Eggs Florentine Benedict, French Toast, and Lemon & Sugar Crepe I have EVER had. Everything was super fresh and flavorful to the taste, and super pleasing to the eye. I felt like I was transformed back to France for a moment. The space is small, humble, and full of warmth. How this place doesn't have a line forming around the corner I don't understand. Maybe the secret isn't fully out yet. Our waitress and drink server couldn't have been nicer. Super friendly and cheerful ladies. The owner/chef came outside to take a break and my friend and I chatted with him for a bit. Such a nice man. We thanked him for his love and dedication to the art of food making. AMAZING experience all around!! read more

I came with my Boyfriend not knowing what to expect. He discovered this place on Yelp. So we decided to give it a try must say we were truly impressed !!! We had a few stuff but my favorite had to be the Lemon and Sugar with Berry Compote or Jam...it was so Delicious. My only complaint to expensive. But was kind of worth it !! read more
