Ambiance (N/A): I never stepped inside so I'm not sure how it is. There were two tables for outdoor dining (each table can comfortably fit 2 patrons). Since I had my dog with me, they kindly let me dine outside. Service (5/5): Menu was available on the QR code and the waitress was patient and always ready for me. I don't think there were many guests on a Thursday evening at 7p. Nevertheless, the service was great. Food Escargot (4/5): The pieces were fairly large and there was about a dozen pieces that were all very tasty/fresh. The buttery flavors stood out. It was too salty but the bread dipped well into it. The plain white bread slices wasn't good, although its hard surface was a great vessel to enjoy the escargots on. Not ideal for dipping as it didn't soak up too much sauce. Wagyu Burger (5/5): The burger was incredibly juicy. The brioche bun is fabulous--soft but kept the burger intact. The refreshing salad was a nice touch. I liked how the additional add-ons were on the side to add as much or little you want to your burger. read more

OMG! Can't wait to return to this small cafe spot that I briefly visited to pick up a the best scone I ever had. It was quite small in this petite size cafe, with some seating on the inside and a few tables outside to sit. The people who worked there and helped me with my ordering were very pleasant. I dropped in because I saw a sign outside that said scones and I love me a good one. They didn't have many options and I don't know if they may have just ran out, but this particular scone and I don't remember the flavor was freshly baked, with warm spices with just the right amount of warmth. It was so good that I must make a return. I'm glad I took a picture of it to just so I can ask what flavor was it. Just when you think a place can't surprise you. I got the seasonal quiche for the first time (onion, mushroom, spinach) which was fantastic - gooey, nice crust, flavorful. I got it with the iced tea which is sweetened, as part of the brunch combo. Not too sweet but be aware. read more

Highly recommend - The French toast was soooo delicious as well. Very soft and custardy on the inside and not too sweet. It paired perfectly with the berry compote - the croque monsieur wasn't bad but I would recommend trying the first two over this one! GET THE FRENCH TOAST!! It's incredible and more than enough food for breakfast. It comes with berry compote, syrup, and six round bready toasts that are super soft, bouncy, and moist. Servers were really nice but it seems there is only one waiter so service took a while between ordering and receiving food. The interior is small with seating for about 15 people. This was our second time visiting this place and it was perfect because it seems family run with the similar staff when we visited 5 years ago. I didn't love how the chef yelled at the server (it's a small space and she was the only server) but maybe this is their dynamic? We ordered the french toast to split and I ordered a rose. The french toast was just as amazing as we remembered it. The best french toast we have had 5 years and counting. It comes with syrup and some fruit and preserves. YUM Service can def be slow at times since it is usually one person. The place is intimate so not a large crowd thing. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Pricing was reasonable! Trying not to promote this place too much because I want it to be the same everytime we go so I feel like a local haha read more

The good: Food, speed, music choice (happy lively 80s-90s music)! The fries were salted just right and the Croque monsieur was just the right temperature! Ham was ok. Now, the rest: The menu on google maps, Apple Maps, and Yelp is an "old" menu with $5 less on most prices. Once you get inside, there's a QR code to a "new" menu with higher prices and a slightly different layout. And, I was overcharged on tax by a bit. Everything on the menu sounds delicious here. One of my friends always wanted to try this restaurant so we finally got together for brunch. It's a homely place that serves the right amount of food (not too much, not too little) and makes it look aesthetic and delectable. The French toast comes on these skewers which is a fun take, and a good size for consuming. The croque monsieur is simple but covered in delicious cheese which a simple but actually well flavored salad on the side. The staff are kind, helpful, and timely and the conversation with my friends was great. Additionally, the music was really good - I didn't recognize a lot of the songs but it really helped the conversation and I do wish I asked for the playlist. read more

CAFE TRISKELL HAS THE BEST FRENCH TOAST. NO CONTEST. Since my last review it looks like they've pared the staff down to being one waitress and the chef in the back. However, they still handle their full house very nicely. They always seem to have a wait, so it helps to arrive early. Every time I am there, I must order the french toast, it's so delicious. It's sweet and doesn't even really need the syrup or jam that it's served with. I've taken to sharing an order with the table as dessert. I am looking forward to ordering their french onion soup soon. read more

What a gem Cafe Triskell is! I wish I lived in the neighborhood. If I did, I'd visit often! This review is for brunch. There were other customers but there weren't people waiting to sit so the staff let us stay for a while which was nice. The brunch entrees come with a coffee, tea or soda, while some also have a mimosa as an option too. Ordered: French toast entree ($20)- my friend and I wanted to try this so we ordered an extra entree. This was the best decision we made! The French toast skewers are to die for! They come with stewed strawberries and syrup and we polished them off. At $20 this was a little pricey but I suppose it also comes with coffee, tea or a mimosa so that seems reasonable. We didn't get an extra drink since we were sharing this as an appetizer. Quiche ($15)- the quiche of the day had spinach and broccoli in it. It didn't have cheese but it was really good. The egg tasted custardy almost. It came with a side salad that had a nice dressing. I believe there was mustard in the dressing. The portion was a nice size! I have nothing bad to say about my meal at Cafe Triskell. Do yourself a favor, and give this place a try! read more

This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I've eaten here over several years, and each time the food has been delicious. They really know how to make crepes here! The buckwheat crepes are exactly what a good French crepe should be--thin, the slightest bit crisp while still retaining the pliability that allows you to cut and fold it over onto your fork. The ingredients inside are quality too. The restaurant itself is quite small, seating about 16-20 people including the seats outside, so often for brunch there's a short wait, but well worth it. The French toast skewers are a popular item and they happened to run out when our party of 4 arrived around 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon, so we got crepes (ham and cheese, and a goat cheese walnut, and I can't remember the last one), and a croque monsieur with a couple coffees. Yummy and affordable. Would come back for brunch here any day! My previous experiences with staff here have been good and nothing out of the ordinary, though this time it was a little odd how after being seated the waitress seemed to ignore us for a good 15-20 minutes although we tried to get her attention a couple times. It was extremely hard to flag her down to order, get the check, and pay the bill. Like she said all the right things and was helpful when she came to take the order but otherwise didn't respond when we tried to say anything before or after that point. I understand it was pretty busy for one person to be handling 8-10 tables but this is also pretty standard for most restaurants and the tables are small here. If she was trying to pace the service an explanation or a friendly gesture would be sufficient to impart a better experience to customers. If I were a new customer I might dock another star for service but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here and overall my experiences have been positive. read more

This is the best brunch place I ever been to. The food was impeccable. We got the croque monsieur which is a French sandwich with ham and cheese which was so buttery and cheesy. The salmon egg Benedict was so good, they give a lot more salmon than other places. Along with he meals it comes with coffee or tea. What a shame about the service. This is a lovely French bistro with a low-key presence on 36th Avenue, and we really enjoyed their beverages, French Onion soup, and baked dishes. However, the waitress, who couldn't speak French, ignored or forgot about us while we waited to place an order. Though I spoke with the owner afterward about his cuisine, French culinary background, and experience, this still left a bit of a lingering taste.in our mouths. Overall a worthwhile experience. Small hole-in-the-wall places that are a labor of love & owner-operated are getting pushed out by rising rents & rising costs, making the city increasingly populated with private equity-financed establishments that all feel and look the same. Whether it's the lovely service from Marcella or the perfect French Onion soup, chicken cordon bleu, or the brunch French Toast, the food is fantastic and the ambience is homey and comfortable. Unfortunately we seem to be entering an era where there's no room in New York City like Cafe Triskell. Take advantage while you can. read more

Ambience: It was only outdoor seating, which comprises 3 tables on the sidewalk. My wife tells me this is not uncommon in France, so I guess this is authentic. Food: House Specialty Homemade French Toast (5/5) - home made "toast" on skewers. The texture was more pancake than toast, but the flavor and texture...OMG. Croque Monsieur Sandwich (4/5) - A good representation. I am lactose intolerant to I skipped this one. Wife says it was good. Pan Seared Hudson Valley Duck Foie Gras (5/5) - Instagram worthy. This looks like a piece of art. Lucky that it tastes every bit as good as it looks. Frisee Salad (4/5) - not a big salad eater, but damn, this was good. Especially with the poached egg. One of my favorite spots in Astoria. It feels like a European cafe, with a cozy interior and a couple tables dotting the sidewalk. I recently came for brunch for 2 on a Sunday at 11:30, without a reservation, and had to wait about half an hour. The weather was pleasant and I parked myself on the bench outside, and it was worth it! I ordered a ham, scrambled egg, and swiss cheese crepe. The buckwheat crepe had a great texture and the fillings were tasty. Overall, it felt very simple in a good way. Came here for a Sunday brunch and just perfection! It does remind me of a cafe I would stumble upon in Paris which was very cool and it has a vintage feel to it. It's not the biggest space but definitely has seating indoors and can accommodate for outdoors. I love how they cook their food upon ordering so very fresh! The person who served us was very friendly and attentive despite it getting busier as we sat there. my sister and i decided to grab a quick brunch at cafe triskell while we were in the neighborhood and i'm pretty sure we discovered the best french toast in nyc!! highly recommend trying their french toast special - one order comes with 6 pieces, 3 on each skewer, with sides of syrup and fresh fruit compote. they're perfectly fluffy, just the right amount of sweet, and kinda remind me of the jiggly japanese pancakes i've had in asia. so glad we've serendipitously stumbled into this cute cafe and definitely can't wait to come back again. read more

This is such a cute & cozy spot to enjoy an outdoor brunch. We were seated curbside a la outdoor dining. We were offered their brunch menu for this visit. The waitstaff were so pleasant and friendly, offering alternatives and suggestions for some of the items that were out. Let me tell you, the French toast are light fluffy sweet doughnuts on a skewer. I'm not a donut person but my tiny bite turned into the dollap sized sweet treat. It comes 6 in an order which I felt were quite generous. One was plenty. We had to pack it up to bring home so the kids can try, boy were they delicious!! Literally the most amazing French Onion Soup you will ever taste outside of France itself. I loved the inside - it felt cozy and made you feel like you were no longer in Queens. Service was attentive and the chef was really nice! I loves being able to see the kitchen. They were out of the escargot which was disappointing but to no fault of their own! The waitress explained to us that sometimes the snails don't look right when they are buying them so they don't always have them, which I respect! This is a cute French spot in Astoria. It was my first time trying the place and I am impressed with their authentic crepes. My boyfriend and I had one savory and one dessert crepes. The buckwheat option is rare to see in many other French spot. We really like the crispy texture of the lemon sugar crepes. The berry compote always taste like home-made. The snails is a little bit salty when we had our first bite, but it balance well with the toast that comes with it. If you like garlic, you will like this dish a lot. It's definite a good spot for some Sunday brunch crepe craving. Overall, a very cute spot for brunch. Four tables for outdoor seating. This is one of our favorite places to brunch. Our go-to's are the corned beef and potatoes hash and their signature French toast. The corned beef hash is simply delectable. The flavors are perfectly balanced between the beef, potatoes and the poached egg in hollandaise sauce. Their elevated take on the dish is definitely worth trying. The French toast though!!! They have a delicately sweet taste and still have a little crispness beneath the drizzles of the syrup. The thing about their French toast is that some of the sweetness come from the bread itself versus mostly of it coming from the syrup on top.
