    Freddo Espresso, Koulouri

I thought I reviewed this place before but I guess I forgot! Here we go. I spent my summers in Greece as a kid and my entire family is off the boat Greek, so Greek food is something I grew up with and have a great deal of familiarity with. I hadn't had a freddo espresso in years (since I was last in Greece) and the one I had here was the best I've had in the US. It was perfect! The tyropites were the best I've had in the US as well. The lady who works there could have been friendlier, which is something I've come to expect from Greek eateries in the US when I come in speaking flawless Greek, but I didn't get a nod/smile, nor did she seem to care that I told her these were the best versions I've had here in the US. Anyways, the service was quick and decent. The spot is very very small and feels authentic to a hole in the wall place you might find in Athens. On the day I went there was no place to sit outside so I just walked and ate. Came back later and got two more tyropites, which were just absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommended place! The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because of the lack of warm hospitality but the food and coffee was 5/5 easily for the price!

It doesn't get much better than To Laiko when it comes to traditional savory and sweet traditional Greek comfort foods. Whoever said "the best eateries are small" is on the money with this gem of Astoria. A cozy spot that turns orders quickly and cheerfully, To Laiko is one of my regularly visited places for Spinach Pie, Baklava, Greek Coffee & espresso drinks. Super friendly people working behind the counter and a roster of amazing neighborhood people conversing outside of it. You won't find a place much more enjoyable to shop at than this one.

Lovely new Greek coffee shop We were very impressed with this small hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. We ordered a spinach pie, some Greek pastries, two coffees, and a coke. The price was $17.00. Whoever served us was on top of her game and knew exactly what we were looking for in terms of recommendations. We will be back. and excellent first impression!

Was born and raised in Astoria ... every time I come back to the old but very changed neighborhood ... I dodge the millennial and stop in for coffee and a delicious piece of warm cheese pie ... delish

This tiny coffee shop has been around in Astoria since I can remember! It's a very good spot to go to before you hop on the train if you want a quick coffee and breakfast to go. They make awesome frappes and tiropitas ( cheese pies). If you're in the mood for something tasty and sweet you should definitely try their mpougatsa ( a custard filled fillo dough treat with powdered sugar and cinnamon mmm). They will heat it up for you and it's oh so yummy!

We had a salad, with slices of fresh feta, Greek olives even dill, cut nice and chewable. Three of us shared appetizers. Forgot name in Greek but the American version the fried cheese was yummy, then a Branzino cooked to perfection, we had another dish looked like a lasagna with Bechamel' sauce baked 2" thick, that too was delicious, also even though I don't eat meat. An appetizer that was like mashed potatoes with garlic and a plate of lemon potatoes. Haven't had those cooked so well in years. The food just kept coming everything FRESH even the cream pastry with fresh cinnamon! I wish I remembered the names in Greek unfortunately I was too busy eating. - doggie bag was graciously given when we left. Definitely recommend and will be returning. As we were leaving the line out the door. Some very good Greek food more authentic than many in Manhattan. Real deal here.

George warmly welcomed us and even let us know that street parking would be free after 7:00 p.m.--a small but thoughtful gesture that set the tone right away. The restaurant had a lively, inviting energy, and throughout the meal, George delivered truly five-star service. He mentioned he's been there over 18 years, and it clearly shows in his effortless, seasoned, and genuinely attentive hospitality. Complimentary bread and water with a generous bowl of fresh lemons arrived immediately, a simple yet appreciated touch. We shared a medium Greek salad and grilled octopus--both outstanding, with the octopus especially tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We even took a few bites before remembering to snap a photo. The salad was served with olive oil and herb-infused vinegar on the side, allowing you to dress it exactly to your liking. For our mains, I ordered the grilled whole porgy, while my husband chose the shrimp spaghetti. The portion of fish was quite generous--I ended up taking most of it home, as I was already satisfied after the appetizers. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pasta, and after tasting a couple of his shrimp, I completely understood why--it was delicious. To finish, we were each treated to a complimentary piece of galaktoboureko, a thoughtful and fitting end to the meal. Warm hospitality, a vibrant atmosphere, and well-executed dishes made this a truly enjoyable experience. We'll definitely be back.

I recommend booking a RVSP for their indoor garden area if possible as that portion of the restaurant is stunning (pic included). Nonetheless, both their regular indoor and indoor garden area is very reminiscent of Greece. Service was great. We got their fried calamari, dakos salad, spinach pie, and safritos. Everything was great. While I thought that their fried calamari and spinach pie was pretty standard, I truly enjoyed their safritos and dakos salad. Their safritos beef shoulder was so tender and you had the option to eat it with beans, lemon potatoes, or fries. We chose their lemon potatoes and thought that it paired so well. Their dakos salad was also light, refreshing, but so flavorful. Amazing meal and probably my favorite Greek restaurant in NYC.

He mentioned grilled meats, fish, and modifications that could be done to sauces to make them gluten free. One big difference I noticed on this visit was that there is no longer the kerasma / treat offered at the end of your meal of the portokalopita or gluten free yogurt with orange syrup, so that was a bummer. The change in portions is also noticeable, particularly from the Sofrito having less meat on the plate. But, the food is very tasty and presented well! I can easily eat their Greek salad and Octopus & fava on repeat.

Drinks at the bar beforehand were also a highlight -- sangria and a gin, lavender, elderflower, cucumber cocktail that my grandma actually loved.
