i love yumm sauce!! i can't get enough! i'm crazy over this sauce!! i don't know how they did it, but they have created the most amazing sauce known to man! not only is it addictive, unique, and completely delicious..it's vegan, heart healthy (very low sodium), & gluten free. so i recommend it to everyone i know. Café Yum is a place I can eat over and over and never get tired of it. Their Yum sauce is healthy and tasty. I just bought a jar of Yum sauce to put on my rice and bean bowls I make because they don't have a Café Yum in the town where I work. Their soups are the best. The only thing I would change is I would add a healthy bread. read more

I agree with a lot of other reviews, that you can make their basic bowls for cheaper at home and just buy the sauce. Regardless, I really enjoyed it when I had it and bought some of that sauce immediately because OMG ITS AMAZING. Seriously could eat spoonfuls of the sauce. I ordered to-go today and came in with my toddler to pick our order up. I had ordered an edamame bowl, my favorite. Got home, fed toddler and put them to bed because they were having a melt-down. FINALLY sit down to eat my food and there's no nori on it. The nori is why I get the edamame bowl. It's the flavor that brings the dish together. So I call in to tell Yumm what happened and the person I spoke with says "I'm sorry about that" in the least apologetic tone I've ever encountered and just lets the ensuing awkward silence hang in the air until I hang up in disgust. Not even the smallest attempt to get a manager on the phone or offer me any kind of replacement or refund for messing up my order. So I'm sitting here eating my incredibly disappointing nori-less edamame bowl and writing this review. *sigh* I hope my feedback prompts you to take a long, hard look at your team and ask yourselves why you work in the service industry at all if this is the best you can do. read more

Quick and delicious. Be careful ordering a side salad in place of chips though...they gave be a handful of mixed greens in a cup. That's it. No dressing, no fork...was a bit disappointing when I got home and discovered this. Other than that, great food. Awesome salmon sandwich. read more

I've been coming here for months now and they're nothing but great to me. They always ask how my day is going and get orders out in a timely matter. The staff is friendly and I love coming here. There's one member, Kat, who is sometimes, outright rude to other staff members, loud enough that people eating can hear. I always feel a little uncomfortable but know it can get loud in the food service business but it still seems to happen more often than it should. read more

I used to love Cafe Yumm--I can get a great vegan meal for cheap. Recently, however, it seems like their quality has gone down but their prices have gone up. The cooks need to add more beans and avocados to the bowls like they used to! Now the bowls are just full of rice and sauce. Not as good as it used to be. I've been eating at Cafe Yummy for 15 years and today is my last time. The 18th st location is the worst I've ever had. They couldn't get either meal I ordered right and worst of all they don't care. I have ordered from this place four times for lunch at work. My office is close by. They have not ONCE gotten my order correct. Not once. It's not that hard. Their food is good, but they do a horrific job of making sure you get what you order. The final straw was their error today. Find somewhere else to order for lunch. Terrible job. How long can I hold my opinion based upon my desire to like a place? Granted, I enjoy the favor of their food. And as a gluten-free vegetarian, it really fits the bill...when I dine in. But I have yet to have my order right when I place an order to go. I've opened my bowl up to find chicken and/or the wrong ingredients--on more than one occasion. Tonight, however, was the final straw. I ordered 3 bowls: one for each member of my family. When I got home, none of them was more than half full. Cafe Yumm has been steadily going downhill for the last couple years. I used to leave the restaurant with a "wow that was really good" feeling. Now I leave with a "meh" feeling. They are either skimping on Yumm sauce or buying inferior ingredients. Recently we ordered ahead for a couple bowls to go. When we arrived to pick them up we had to wait in line 10-15 minutes . When we finally did get our order and got back to our car for a road trip we noticed the bowls were cold. We took them right back in and tried to get them to microwave them but they refused stating that once you left the premises, health department rules prohibited them from reheating our meal !Super service thereI I sent them an email about this issue and they didn't even bother to respond. So I recently moved to Eugene from Northern CA, so I have never heard of or experienced Cafe Yumm, but upon further inquiry with the locals, realized it is an Oregon staple and have to try it. I have gone there twice and the food is delicious, BUT I personally think you get very small portions for the price. The only reason I will probably only try it twice is because it is so darn expensive and not the healthiest thing I could be eating, honestly. A small Yumm Bowl (their specialty) is about 1 cup (MAYBE 1 1/4 cups) of food and can go up to almost $7 or more with extras! I kind of feel that price should warrant enough food to leave you very satisfied, full even. Maybe I'm sounding cheap (and on a student's budget, I am...) but I was not filled and after I and my boyfriend ate (he was less impressed than I was), neither was our wallet. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, fresh, local, sort of healthy (if you're counting calories instead of trying to eat vegan/gluten free, I would actually say avoid this place...vegetarian/vegan does not equal low cal!), and leaves you feeling pretty good about what you just ate, but I just feel like I could either be paying less or getting more food for the price. If you're new to Oregon, definitely try it, but as with any addiction, it might start getting really expensive. :) read more

DO NOT go to this location (or maybe all of them) if you are a dog lover. They do not allow dogs on the patio AT ALL but will not post it. They get you in to buy the food and then force you off. Anyone who decides that just because sauce has fat in it is unhealthy obviously has never taken a course on nutrition. A human body cannot process preservatives and unnatural ingredients, hence "fat free", "sugar free", and "low calories" make one think they are doing the healthy thing, when really there are 30 items in the ingredient list. That said, Cafe Yumm provides simple food, that, yes you can make at home, but I've never made a tofu skewer, soup, or bowl just as delicious as they do. Rice and beans make a complete protein and the chocolate dipped molasses cookie is the BEST way to make your day ten times better. As a vegetarian, I am always satisfied and the service is always top notch. It feels good to support organic and local foods, even if the price is a bit higher than a dollar fish sandwich that came from China. read more

The Hot and Jazzy Yumm bowl tasted super salty, was not spicy at all, and the chicken was cold and looked and tasted like it was taken right out of a can. Add a diet pepsi and it was over $9.00! You are better off going to Chipotle where you can get a burrito bowl that has grilled chicken and much tastier ingredients. I've been here twice, though at different locations. I don't get the hype. I mean, the sauce is really good if you like healthy food. It's unique and I enjoy it. But the bowls themselves are pretty boring, especially for the price. As someone else said, the imagination here is low. Rice, beans, tomatoes, hot sauce, sour cream, and avocado are all relatively easy to throw together into a bowl at home, which is how these bowls taste -- as if they were thrown together at home for a quick dinner. The rice tastes unseasoned. The beans taste unseasoned. They're relying on the sauce to do all the work, but I don't think they ladle enough on, because I'm always left with flavorless rice and beans that I need to douse in hot sauce to finish. I wonder if you can just buy the Yum sauce and make a tastier dinner with it at home (for much less money; beans and rice are as cheap as it gets, so I don't get the high pricing here). I think I'd recommend this place to my vegetarian friends, but probably not to my meat-eating friends. read more

Cafe Yumm is yummy. Well known to the locals, visitors should check it out for a real taste of Eugene. Mostly veggie and known for the yumm bowls and sauce which the town goes nuts for. But for me its all about the bbq black sesame tofu sticks which taste so so good. I get them with the bento. You can pick teriyaki chicken or tempeh instead of the tofu, but I never would, and it comes with brown or jasmine rice and this cole slaw with a crazy good dressing has a really light texture a very intense flavor that I love (and i usually don't like cole slaw). There are sandwiches that look good but I've never tried due to tofu stick cravings and great treats and juices. Not cheap though. read more

I used to love the original Cafe Yumm located in the bottom of the old 5th St. Market- back when it was a cool place to go. It was in the basement near the Comic News. It rocked. It was low-priced, all vegetarian, and awesome! You created your own unique bowl and it tasted super good! Now it sucks! The food varies greatly from location to location (Oakway and Willamette/18th are the best), the staff at many locations is immature and not professional, and they regularly (like 3 times in about 3 months) mess up your overpriced order when you get it to go. Here are some examples of Cafe Yumm awfulness: stale chips usually are with your sandwich order, or they may just be omitted completely, or (if you are really lucky) they may be totally crushed as my order was a few weeks ago- really?? serving a guest a bag of stale broken chips with a sandwich?, partially cooked tempeh or maybe burnt sandwich drowning in sauce, rice scraped off the bottom of a rice cooker and all dried up stuck in your Yumm Bowl, and I could go on.... I am really tired of wasting my $ at this place, and it used to be my FAVORITE place to eat in Eugene! The owner of this establishment needs to quit focusing on his franchising and get back to working on the quality of his establishment because it won't last if he keeps allowing his restaurants to become awful. They used to be much better before he started franchising. They used to have a great menu with tempeh almond salad sandwiches, the awesome asian tofu salad Secret Asian Man, and the wonderful soup with tofu and the peanut base.
