Wow...so disappointed after reading the reviews of this place. Had the original yumm bowl with chicken and my son had the smokey yumm bowl. I was expecting some gourmet experience after reading the reviews. Needless to say after spending nearly $20 on our food (to go order just the food no drinks, desserts, or anything extra) I was disappointed with the quality, flavors, and size of the portions. It drives me a bit crazy that locals like this place. Maybe because there are not a lot of decent options in Eugene (as compared say to Portland or the Bay Area). Still what they are known for is putting some rice and beans in a bowl, adding a few topping and putting their "Yum Sauce" (essentially Annie's Goddess Dressing) on top. A really limited and unimaginative menu. The food is healthy but without flavor or interest. You could so easily do this at home. "Yumm" is really the complete wrong word for the place. Not THIS Yumm....it sucks. They give you old throw out ingredients like the avocado that got me sick. They skimp on sauce, beyond acceptable. Tight wads or something but when I pay 9 bucks for a bowl of Yumm I'd like it to be a lot more than just brown rice with a little sauce and condiments. Veggie places are not my thing. But I really like the Yumm sauce. Toss in some hot sauce and I am good. I have veggie pals and Yumm is great when I want to be social and have something. The option to buy Yumm sauce to take home and pour over chicken is a good idea for veggie guests. There sure are a lot of negative reviews on here. Mostly whining about the portions and the price. I love Yumm Sauce. That being said, the Yumm Bowls are a bit pricey, and the wait can be a while, expecially during the lunch rush. I prefer to buy a bottle of the sauce, then make my own bowls, or use the sauce to dip veggies and what not. I am sure it is a healthy alternative to fast food, but you have to be careful as the sauce is 70 calories a tbsp, and that can add up fast. But it is super tasty!! If I was just rated the sauce itself, I would give it five stars, but I give the Cafe three stars due to the cost, the wait, and the fact that you can't call and order your bowl ahead of time. You used to be able to do that so it made it possible for me to get a bowl on my lunch hour. Now, if I go at Noon, sometimes the line is so long and the wait after I have ordered is so long, my lunch is over before I get to eat! Cafe Yumm was one of the very first restaurants I discovered with my parents while visiting the University of Oregon 4 years ago. Not to say that this discovery sealed the deal, because I had already decided to attend the U of O, but I knew that Cafe Yumm was going to help make the next 4 years of my life a whole lot more delicious. And it certainly has! First, I love that i can get a filling and tasty meal for under $8. Yumm bowls are delicious bowls of brown rice, black beans, tomatoes, avocado, cheese, sour cream, Black olives, and cilantro. You can add chicken or tofu for protein, which I always do. The thing that makes it extra special is the Yumm sauce. I'm not even quite sure how I'd begin to describe it but it tastes amazing! In fact, you can buy bottles of Yumm sauce at Cafe Yumm to bring home and make your very own Yumm Bowls. I always get the original Yumm bowl (which i described above), but I hear that the more creative menu options are equally flavorful and delicious! I've heard that the Hot and Jazzy Bowl is great if you like something with a spicy kick to it. Second, I love that there is location on Franklin Boulevard because it's a perfect walking distance from campus. Being here without a car is very limiting to where I'm able to eat out on the weekends. Cafe Yumm is a great alternative to the dining options of 13th Ave. read more

Let me just say up front...I'm not a vegetarian, not that that's a bad thing ;) I finally had lunch at Cafe Yumm and long story short the food was great. I met a friend at the Meridian location. The only complaint I have about this location is the parking, in a word it sucks Anyway we got there just before the big lunch rush so the wait wasn't long at all. I ordered a small Yumm baby and a cup of artichoke bisque soup the total for that was under $8. We grabbed our little table card and found a quiet table in the back room, just right for a nice intimate conversation. After a short wait, maybe 10 minutes, our food was delivered hot and fresh. The Yumm baby doesn't have beans and you get original Yumm sauce and extra avocado. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered it but it turned out to be great! It was just the right amount for lunch and what great flavor. The soup was the best soup I have had at a restaurant in years. It seems that soups at restaurants anymore are an afterthought kind of like the salads. The soup also came with a pretty good piece of bread that was just as good as the other food. I tried my friends food also, I'm not sure what it was but it too was fantastic. He had added some Asian hot chili sauce to his and that added to it. By the time we were eating there was a long line and the place was filling up fast. But it appeared as though the staff was handling the lunch rush with ease. I will definitely be be back for more. Alway tasty- always healthy- A tour of Eugene is not complete without the Yumm

I was curious to see what the negative reviews on here were, because I was so surprised that this restaurant only had four stars. I loved this place when my friend took me here when I visited Eugene, but truth be told I could see how this wouldn't be for everyone. The Yumm! Bowl is rice, beans, salsa, veggies, cheese and the Yumm sauce. A small is totally filling and only $4.50. That is a slice of heaven both for the ingredients and the price for me, but if you aren't a rice-and-beans type of person, then... uhm... yeah you aren't going to like it. Also, if you want to argue that you can go make this at home for cheaper.... sure, probably, if you wanted to make a mass quantity of it and also if you really have the time. I rather be doing something else than waiting for rice and beans to cook at home. Also someone said the yum sauce is not good for you. In some ways, no, but compared to many dressings it totally is! Check out the nutritional information on their webpage, the main ingredient is canola oil, yeah for sure not the greatest, but to compare it nutritionally to ranch dressing is atrocious. Also the sauce is vegan, plus they serve chicken in some of the dishes, so if you have a "mixed" group of diners I imagine this would be a good place to go. When described to me: organic rice and beans, avocado , salsa and yum sauce made of tahini and spices and yummy things it all sounds amazing. The food was indeed good but was way too drenched in yum sauce, it was almost inedible and in fact i could only eat half the bowl. amazing concept, amazing colors too much sauce. Not really sure what is in that infamous yumm sauce, but it sure added a very nice touch to my avocado bowl. I was a little confused in the beginning...I mean, white rice with sour cream, diced tomato, avocado, AND cheese? But I must say I was pleasantly surprised to find out how delicious this combination turned out to be. This place used to be so much better before it grew so much. Now every time I go I am disappointed by something. The Yumm n'greens in particular used to be a huge pile of greens with Yumm bowl stuff on top, but the last time I got it I could barely see any greens! The yumm sauce is really good so...it's probably better just to stop by and grab a jar of it and then make your own stuff at home. Love cafe yumm and this one tends to be the best, in my opinion. It's so nice to eat in here too. Really cozy environment and the side room is good if you're eating with several friends. Cafe Yumm is really delicious, healthy, and fast... but the real secret is the fact that you can buy the Yumm sauce (either at any of the restaurant locations or at a health food store) and make your own Yumm bowls at home for cheaper AND you get complete control over what goes into them! If you're eating in house, however, the Hot 'n' Jazzy Bowl cannot be beat! They cater well to those of us with restrictive diets and are generally super friendly and pretty fast. read more
