As a friend has said to me, the bread here was baked by baby angels. Blue Frog Bakery is a family owned restaurant that is open for breakfast and dinner. They bake their bread in house, and offer delicious pastry specials each day. It's a little gem thats hidden in the orange circle, but it serves really good quality, and tasty food. Blue Frog Philly- chunks of shredded beef, onions, peppers, cheese, on their fresh baked bread. it usually comes with either potato salad or fruit salad. I usually opt to switch out their sides for their homemade soup of the day (which is always really good). The sandwich is huge and messy. Defintely need a fork and knife, but its just a really good sandwich for a good price. $7.95 I am also in love with their desserts: eclair: omggggg super huge and you can just really tell that it was made fresh that day. The pastry itself is light and airy, the custard is rich and delectable, and the size is incredible! their boston cream pie and strawberry coconut cake is also to die for. We come here usually for one thing, coconut cake. My wife who doesn't like sweets in general, loves it. And they sell by the slice too. It is $5 a slice, but it's huge, so we don't complain. Terrible customer service! I took my mom here for lunch over the weekend. Not very busy for a Saturday, which was great for us. We were not greeted when we arrived. Not a great start, but it happens. One woman was ahead of me in line while there were 2 girls on the cash register. The one who decided not to help me was busy counting and sorting her tips. I probably waited for about 8 minutes until a young gentleman from the kitchen came out to tell the older woman to help me. Seriously? The guy in the back noticed me, but not the lady right in front of me? Okay, whatever. I then placed my order, "I'll have 2 of the Messy Pigs with a Mexican Hot Chocolate and a Chai Latte." I was then asked if I wanted fruit or some potato stuff. I opted for the fruit for BOTH. She then asked me "and for the second meal?" I responded again "BOTH fruit." Then she asked me for my drink order. WTF? Am I in the Twilight Zone??? "One Chai Latte and a Mexican Hot Chocolate." After about 5 minutes the same lady comes to our table and asks if we ordered an Ice Tea. For the love of God!!! Third times the charm I guess. Finally our food arrives and our orders are WRONG. I have given up at this point. I have no idea how this lady makes it through the day and on top of that receives tips. Here's a tip: LEARN HOW TO TAKE AN ORDER!! I will never go back to this place again. The food was decent, however it did give me and my mother the poops. This is a kitschy place that appears to cater to the "ladies at lunch" crowd. It seemed an interesting place when I met a friend for lunch here. However once you walk in on a super hot day, you realize that its a bit pretentious. The staff was helpful but the clientele is what set this place aside for me. It seemed that I was about the only male lunch customer there. But I ordered a French Dip au jus and it came with a side of fruit. My friend ordered a half sandwhich with potato salad and a muffin (for back at her office). We then grabbed a table (you have to order at the bakery counter), and about 5 minutes later got asked what we were having to drink by a waitress. Another 5 minutes goes by and our food arrives. It seems a lil long for a couple of basic sandwhichs just after the lunch rush hour. So we dig in and it tastes decent. I definately prefer a few other places over this one within walking distance of it. But it was ok. I did see a few slices of meat that were half fat mixed into the sandwhich. But what got me going, was the fruit (side choices were a salad like macaroni or potato or fruit). I got 2 bites of honeydew and 3 smaller pieces of watermelon. It just seemed like it was only half of what would be the normal fruit portion. The other item that had me wondering, was the au jus. I didnt notice at first but it had almsot no color to it. When I looked at it closer, I noticed that there was what appeared to be an oil or fat layer floating on top of the regular au jus. Needless to say I stopped dipping my sandwhich at that point. On the overall it was ok but nothing outstanding. The sandwhich tasted good, but the skimpy fruit and bad au jus was disappointing. The attitude of many of the patrons was abysmal IMO. Just south of 4 stars. I came here with my sister (a Chapman attendee) who had been raving about this place forever. I was not nearly as impressed, however. I know with its location being near/part of the orange "circle," the prices would probably be steeper, but even with this in mind, I still thought food was a bit too steep. We came during breakfast, and I had a burrito with egg whites and hash/potatoes. My sister, who didn't have time for lunch that day had a club sandwich (she took half of it to go). Maybe it was because my order was with egg whites instead of eggs, but the burrito was a bit on the smaller side. Also, the coffee was just mediocre...which makes me sad. haha What I do give them props for was how many sausage pieces were in hte burrito! read more

There was nothing special about this place. The apple turnovers should have been flakey and light, but they fell and the filling was obviously canned product. Way too sugary. The Eclair pastry filling was tasty but totally ruined by the chocolate topping which was of poor quality... more like cardboard, while the pastry shell was tasteless. The counter person was a young lady who bragged about being a culinary student. It was a huge disappointment for her to arrive 20 minutes late to deliver my chai to the table... since it was the end of breakfast and there were few patrons in the place I was NOT amused. It is very difficult taking a break from the overly sweet pastries to cleanse one's palate without something to wash it all down with. Alas, the chai was also overly sweet..... I'm sort of in love with the Blue Frog. I first discovered this adorable bakery when I was in grad school at Chapman University and then frequented it on a regular basis afterward. I started making excuses to go. Coffee dates with friends quickly became "maybe we should split a scone at the Blue Frog" and lunches on the go quickly became "maybe I should just order a sandwich..." I've been there a thousand times and I'd say that I've gotten the Roasted Chicken Sandwich at LEAST half of those times. The orange cranberry scones are also ahhhmazing. Seriously, everything is. If you're in the area, you'd be a fool not to go. And if my opinion isn't enough, take this into consideration: when my parents visited for graduation and were here for a total of three days, they went three times. One of those days was before they knew about the place. Finally tried this today. Great location in the heart of Old Town. We went for brunch and met a friend from out of town....arriving around 945(Sunday). We were able to get a seat quite easily...lots to choose from including several outdoor tables. I ordered the muffin with egg, ham, and cheese..served with fruit (also had the option of potatoes). My friend ordered the Denver omelette...with fruit and toast. All the food was very good and quite reasonable...nice homey feel. Oh gosh! I have been wanting to try the many breakfast cafe places in downtown Orange. This is my first one, and I sincerely hope my quest to try the many cafes get better from here. I couldn't decide between Kimmies or Blue Frog! no outside seating at Kimmies, so Blue Frog it is! I decided to bring my fur baby because I noticed outside seating, I asked the older lady bussing a table if it was ok that I eat outside with my dog (from my experience-see Outback Steakhouse in GG review- some businesses don't want dogs there, so I thought I'd check first) She gave me a dirty look and said "yes!" And nodded like I asked her the most stupid question in the world, and I suppose I did (thank you) I just don't like to assume So I enter and am greeted by the most wonderful display of bakery treats! Yesssss Inside at the order bar area is another lady, only younger, who ignored me for several minutes while I stood there wondering if I order at the bar or should I be sitting at the table. The other lady walks in and the young asks her to relieve her for a break, she had just counted all the money in the register, I guess that was the time to reconcile her register. FINALLY I'm noticed!!! Yay lucky me!!! I decided to order their original messy breakfast with a side of potatoes and a vanilla latte. The older lady asks me if I know how to use their pay system. It's very much like every single automated credit card machine system in the world, only in a tablet- but I get it, I asked her if I could dine outside with my dog, so I must be (to her) an idiot. In the course of confirming the price, she asks me if I want to go ahead and leave the tip.... Hum .... ?!?! ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Your balls must match your enormous overly hair sprayed big hair!!! So I say I will leave a tip on the table and she answers she will be right out with my latte, she asks me again if I wanted vanilla, and I nod yes please. Several minutes later another gentleman comes outside with a cappuccino, I ask him if its vanilla latte, and I don't think he understood me, it was unflavored cappuccino. Ugh A few minutes later he brings my breakfast. Okay don't order this. It's not worth the money, I thought it was scrambled peppers tomatoes onions and Italian sausage It was more closer to hillshire smoked sausage (that's ok though) burnt scrambled eggs, large onion pieces, the "butt" part of a green pepper NOT soft or cooked, pickled jalapeños you get out of a jar, and some incredibly stale potatoes (you know when you accidentally over cook oven french fries? And you get that hard potato essence?) I had to return inside for more water after following a fellow customer get a coffee refill, and she went in the back for the water & now the glass looks grey. I asked her for a take out box (I'm now afraid to finish eating) I took all the sausage and a few potato pieces for my dog. That was my experience, I'm giving them an extra star for allowing me to eat outside with my dog, and the guy that brought my cappuccino and food was courteous. On the way back to my car (I can feel an upset stomach and bowel coming on), Kimmies is taking names for tables, so I stop and ask if I can just get a vanilla latte to go, she was so super nice!! She said they didn't make lattes but I could go inside for a coffee, then she directed me to all the coffee areas in the area. OC Weekly rated this as Best Breakfast of 2013. WRONG. If I didn't come into it with such high expectations I don't think I would have been this disappointed. But I was. I ordered the Veggie Breakfast burrito which was actually pretty good. The zucchini was a particularly nice touch. However the description had no mention of cheese and there ended up being cheese on it. And since I'm trying to eat healthier this was an unwelcomed surprise. They were able to honor my request for egg whites though which was nice. My friend ordered French toast which was devoid of flavor. She wanted to order the Belgian waffles but they said that don't make them past 11:30 (it was 12:30). There was no mention of this on their menu or website. My boyfriend ordered the huevos rancheros which were okay. Nothing mind blowing but pretty good. The coffee was nothing special. It reminded me of coffee I would get at a mini mart. The service at the counter for ordering seemed slow and inefficient but the staff did ask us several times if there was anything else we needed. Overall decent food and decent prices. But I am so disappointed that OC Weekly would rate this as best breakfast. I could have had a better breakfast at Denny's... A friend and I came in to the Blue Frog for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't especially busy, and the service was not friendly at all. I noticed that my chef salad tasted wrong, and sure enough, the ham had spoiled. I guess the smoky scent had masked the fact that the meat used had obviously gone past it's expiration date, or it wasn't handled properly. My friend asked for a restroom and was informed that it was upstairs. She is handicapped and uses a cane, so she wasn't able to use the restroom at this place. It made for an uncomfortable luncheon! We can understand that these buildings are old (as witnessed by the moldy old wood smell that wafted out as the door opened), and may not have the standards required by law, but my friend and I will not be back. read more

Ok...This is hands down the best bakery anywhere in Orange, especially Old Town. Their bear claws are the best I've ever had and at $2.50 are big enough for an entire breakfast. Get them fast though because they always sell out. If your going to eat sweets, do it here. Everything is homemade and the coffees are great too. I also get their espresso. I love this place! I came quite often when I lived in the OC and still try to make it over when I go visit the OC. Their food is consistently good. I love going for breakfast but they also have some really delicious sandwiches for lunch (like the roasted chicken sandwich. yumm). They have delicious pastries and baked goods. Hands down, one of my favorite chocolate croissants anywhere (and they are large). They also have mexican hot chocolate which can be pretty hard to find. The place is really cozy and homey. You walk into the bakery counter and some tables but there are more tables outside and even an upstairs area! It can get crowded sometimes but I don't think I've ever not found seating. Service is always great here as well. Parking may seem tricky since it's close to the Glassell circle, but behind the building are a couple of lots you can park at! read more

My friend and I decided to try breakfast here this morning. We had wanted to sit outside as it had finally cooled down and my friend had her baby with her, so it would've been much easier. Someone had grabbed the last table outside so we got stuck inside by the kitchen. Honestly I try to eat here once a week. I would eat here more but I don't want to over do it. There is always friendly service and friendly customers as well. I always see people chatting with strangers. It is just one of those places people feel happy at. The owner is there 9 times out of 10, So you know she really cares about the quality of her bakery. And she works very hard just like her employees. The whole grain toast that they bake fresh is the best in town. And I am a big fan of the veggie breakfast burrito. So yummy. There veggie burger is one of a kind as well. People pile in this place but they manage it well and you never feel too cramped, there is usually a place to sit. Well, it was OK, maybe 2.5 stars. Not many options for breakfast at the Circle, and this one we hadn't tried yet. I can't speak for the baked goods, because I didn't order any, but their breakfast is just OK. You order at the counter, take a number, and go take a seat. Service here is not that welcoming, not rude, but yet not friendly. I felt like I was bothering the lady behind the counter by standing there reading the menu. I ordered the Belgian Waffle combo, the waffle is not Belgian, and the bacon was soooo chalky, it crumbled at the touch, fruit....fruit is fruit. My husband ordered a breakfast ham panini,.... meh, I make better one's at home. Coffee was good though, and the cafe it self is cute, but honestly, I would not go back for hot items. What a great place! I am, at this moment, sitting in an overstuffed couch in its loft-turned-lounge, jacked into their free WiFi and enjoying one of the best valued breakfasts in the orange circle (open-faced english muffin with eggs, sausage, cheese and a side of fruit. $4.95) Weekday mornings don't get much better than this. They also have the finest pastries in the area. Croissants, turnovers, muffins, twists are all baked on-site, huge and delicious. Service was also good. This review is long overdue. I've been coming here for nearly 8 years. I stopped for a couple of years and then when I started coming back it was better than I remembered. Now I come here with my family and we all love it. So far, not one bad thing on the menu, however a few things do stand out. The vegi burrito is amazing. This is a great little cafe and bakery. I love coming here to get a little desert or to come for lunch. My favorite thing to get is the veggie burrito which is a breakfast burrito with eggs and veggie. It's massive and comes with potatoes or fruit on the side. It's AMAZING! I also love getting the club sandwich. I love how they use real turkey or chicken and they use the freshest breads in their sandwiches. I got to breakfast with my Dad every Thursday and we decided to come here to try something new. The food here is okay - I got the waffle with scrambled eggs, bacon and a coffee. They have a "coffee bar" at the front of the restaurant where you can get free refills. It seemed like a pretty cool concept in the beginning. However, it became annoying quite quickly that we had to get up from the middle of our conversation and mealtime to get refills. They also had one employee running around taking our order, collecting the cash, sending the order to the kitchen, and then finally serving us our food. I was doing business at another store and when I left I thought I would see what this cafe had. When I walked in I saw the cookies and so I bought a few. A tall young man had helped me it was about 3:00 on April 18th. I was in a rush and I left my sunglasses there on the counter. When I got in my car I realized I left and ran back which was only about 7-8 mins. When I went in I told the same guy that helped me I left my glasses. He says OH they are your glasses. I gave them to someone else let me go get them. I waited and waited and couldn't figure out what was taking him. WELL he was at the store (Deelux) the second hand store looking at candles. When he saw me standing there he came out and said they are getting them. As I looked in the window I see the workers just taking their time helping others. Nope I went in and told the workers I want my glasses back now. I am so upset how come your employer didn't put the glasses behind the counter for least an hour. Oh I know why people leave stuff and your employees take to their friends next door. I could see if I was gone for hours but just mins. I tried looking up a manager but no luck. He didn't say sorry. I am going to contact the clothing store also since they should of been on the ball and got my glasses with out me telling them to. I grew up here in the circle and I'm always here doing business but with this happening I will not return. Oh and in the cafe there was another guy and I told him I can't believe he gave my glasses away so fast. What really upsets me is how the one that helped me kinda laughed. I wish Vegas had cafes like this one, because Blue Frog is a great place to grab a bite, a coffee, or to sit and chat with friends. Located near a University, it's definitely buzzing with lots of college students, which keeps the area fresh and hip. The food at this place is FANTASTIC. I love their sandwiches and their pastries. OH MAN. Their sweets are fantastic. Their croissants melt in your mouth and their cakes are even better. Cookies are incredible! You get a tiny one with your meal, too. I drove out here the other day to have the breakfast that I've heard so much of, but arrived too late. I arrived around 12:30pm (yea I guess that's too late..) and was told they were no longer serving breakfast. Sadness.. So I settled for a pot roast sandwich. Wow, was this sandwich delicious. I was expecting thin cuts of pot roast, but no, I received slabs that would have sufficed as meals themselves. They weren't shy on the avocado slices either, which I more than appreciate! The potato salad had good texture because it also contained macaroni. However, the taste was kind of lacking.. nothing a little black pepper couldn't fix. The meal came with a raisin cookie too. How cute. It was a ton of food for the price, and I found myself trying to power through the second half of my sandwich. There are plenty of fresh baked goods. I ordered a chocolate croissant to go and shared it with my friend shortly later. I should've ordered two, because it was that good. Service is very attentive. The inside is cozy, and you can sit either downstairs or upstairs. It feels like you're eating inside someone's home. If you make a trip to the bathroom, you'll swear it's your grandmother's. Pretty much the story of my life I had Bruxie's for lunch just a few hours earlier, so I wasn't looking to get anything big and hearty - oh how wrong I was! Me and my mom frequent this place quite a lot, I think we're starting to become regulars. haha, but the food is consistently good! We usually get the pot roast sandwich, comes with amazing home-made potato salad, and usually comes with a pickle too. We also like the tuna sandwich and the cobb salad (one of the best i've ever had, yum!). The iced teas, teas, and lemonade are all really good. You can tell they're prepared fresh in the BF Bakery. And there's a wide variety of Tazo teas. The cookies are all delicious. Favorites are the Mexican wedding cookies (with all the powder suger on 'em) and the huge oatmeal cookies. A bakery serving real food? Okay with me! Some friends and I came here this morning for breakfast. Walking in, we were greeted by the glorious pastry display case. The baked goods were huge and they all looked so good! I'm trying to cut back on sugar so I decided to get a real breakfast. I got the breakfast burrito, which came with the option to get potatoes or fruits. I got potatoes. Hey, they're still vegetables, right? After ordering at the counter, you go and find your own table. Cool thing about this place was that they had an upstairs area, too. We decided to sit upstairs. Upstairs was really cozy, but most of the tables were not cleaned and still had other people's plates. We had to ask somebody to clean it while we sat there. I was surprised when my burrito came out. It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be! It came with the potatoes and a side of salsa. I didn't expect much because I thought it was more of a bakery. However, the burrito was really good! It was packed full of sausage, egg, cheese, and potatoes. The salsa was also amazing. It took the burrito to a whole 'nother level. Too bad it came in a small little container. I would have liked a little more of it. The potatoes were also pretty good. It needed more salt though. Service was okay. The upstairs area was really hot. I know hot air rises, but they should really bump up the AC a bit. The pastries looked amazing, but I was too full to get anything. I did try my friend's bear claw and that was pretty good. Nice almond flavor. Overall, a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. I will be back to try the pastries.
