i generally dont give 2 stars to many places. Im not too picky about what i eat. As long as the service is good and the food is decent. Generally we go to Devlin's for brunch but wanted a change and decided to try Cafenation. The reviews were great and the most important thing is i have rarely seen anyone screw up omlettes. In this case, i was very dissapointed. I requested my omlette well done and i was told, the eggs are made a particular way and i couldnt put in a request for well done which i found bery strange. I am no brunch snob but the best of restaurants make a few changes if the patrons ask for it. I kept my fingers crossed and hoped that maybe it would not be very bad but unfortunately i didnt enjoy it at all. The coffee was also alright and my sundried tomato omlette i barely ate. All in all, i wouldnt be going back but im sure since its so popular, my review here wont make a difference. read more

Since I live in Brighton I often come to this place as I prefer to support a local business as opposed to the big guys down the street. The problem with this however seems to be the fact that customer service is not a strong point. Quality of coffee aside (it's acceptable) I was really upset by the attitude I received from the barista the other day. While I was waiting for my beverage I noticed that it wasn't terribly busy and I was the only one she was making espresso for. Because of this a grabbed a packet of sugar and politely asked if the barista could open it up and toss it in the cup since she hadn't put the expresso in yet. Typically I don't ask because if it's busy no need to add to the confusion, but the response I got was an aggressive no, as if what I had asked was beyond comprehension. I looked at her and then told her to not worry about finishing the coffee because I didn't need it now, and I left. Honestly I understand that this is a part time job and you might feel dealing with customers is below your standards, but you are in fact being paid to do it, so respect the business you are working for and maintain a certain level of customer service. read more

At Cafenation is all about crepes. I am addicted to crepes. I can eat them for breakfast, lunch or dinner.I heard about this crepery from a good friend that was raving about the place. Finally I tried to go there the following Sunday since I was craving crepes. Drove 20 minutes went there for breakfast. The waiter nice I sat opened the menu saw immediately what I liked. A Mediterranean crepe with mushrooms feta cheese, spinach and tomatoes and for a desert a nutella crepe with additional bananas. Like them nice and fattening like that. The waiter came told me that the first crepe would be out in 25 minutes because they were very busy?I was thinking to get up and leave. Who waits 25 minutes for a course? Decided to stay after all and thank god I did. The crepes were so delicious the first and second course. Out of this world!!! Truly a great experience. Cafe Nation was my go-to place to eat wonderful savory breakfast and lunch crepes. Unfortunately, Cafe Nation decided to take them off their menu in trade for speedier service, first removing their savory lunch crepes, and now there's no breakfast crepes. This was a restaurant famously known for their crepes, but now it's just another cafe. They still have worthwhile coffee, selection of tea and lattes. Most delicious of all is their mocha chip latte. If you're looking for good breakfast or lunch, Cafe Nation is no longer the place. For the area, Athen's is now a better shot. read more

Excellent little place in Brighton Center. Very good brew, and a larger menu than Dunkin Donuts (of which I am a fan!) and better than Starbucks (of which I am not). Very decent sandwiches, once placed at the register, are quickly made and brought out by name. They have a bit of retail merchandise, without overcharging or being ostentatious like the lah-de-dah Seattle chain (which specializes in snobbery and burned coffee). Free wifi (no password required), plenty of electrical outlets, and casual atmosphere. Mixed classic rock and oldies played at moderate volume when I was there last. read more

This is a great coffee shop with food that refuses to be overshadowed by the coffee. The crepes are excellent, both the savory and the sweet. I almost passed out from ecstasy when eating the strawberry and dark chocolate crepe. And, the scramby eggs and cheese with whatever else crepes are great too. AND, the paninis are surprisingly good. You know how at some places, the cheese doesn't fully melt, and you wonder how hard it is to make one of those things, and then you go here and it all seems so simple and delicious. Just went here with a few friends on our lunch break after going to Starbucks for coffee. My friend wanted a quick sandwich so we stopped in and no sooner did we walk through the door but were told we can't bring in outside beverages, so they asked us to pour out coffees into their cups. We did it. My friend got her Caesar salad wrap (which had too many croutons and was too garlicky) and we asked for napkins and the woman working behind the counter replied by saying 'the thing about the cups is that it's a conflict of interest.. That's why we packed the meal to go.' We already abided by their initial request to pour out coffee in their cups. So we essentially got kicked out of Cafe Nation and experienced the worst customer service. All we wanted was to enjoy our lunch break on a Monday afternoon & that was ruined. read more

Really good latte however HORRIBLE customer service. Ordered a latte with soy milk at the register. Proceeded to pick it up from the barista however it was NOT soy milk. I informed the barista this and he responded with extreme attitude and "you should tell them when you order your drink". I responded with "I did" and instead of an apology got a dirty look and more attitude. Then he made my drink correctly and stormed off without even a sorry. It's too bad because the latte was actually really good but it's not worth someone getting pissed at you when they make a mistake. read more

There is no denying. Cafenation's eats are superb. They have fresh ingredients, and I feel healthier when I eat there. The problem is the service. The last time I went in, I ordered my usual large chai latte with a shot of vanilla. There was a new cashier whose reply to my order was, "Chai is sweet enough. You don't need to add vanilla." I thanked her for her unsolicited advice, and decided to stick with the my 3 year regular request. I then ordered the simple salad. I was in a rush, so for the first time in many months, I asked for it TOGO. A reasonable amount of time later, my food arrived in a miniscule container. Noticing that I paid the same as when I eat at Cafenation, I asked why the size was so much smaller. I was told by a long time employee that it was a figment of my imagination, an illusion. I begged to differ, borrowed a plate, showed how it barely filled the middle, and asked for a manager. When I spoke to the man in charge, he told me that it was now restaurant policy to use smaller togo containers and that when I sit in, the staff was overfeeding me. I should therefore feel lucky that when I'm in the restaurant and order a $12 salad I'm getting a normal sized, plate filled lunch. In reality, I feel robbed when I have to take my order to go because for $12 I received a snack. It's BS. I also wonder why they demand that you get your food, bus your table and then request a tip! What am I tipping them for? Though as a regular customer, because like I said, the food is amazing, I feel obligated to leave a tip. I'm torn in my rating here because the food is a 5 but the service is a 1. read more

I went with a friend and had some great crepes. We shared the crab one and of course the strawberry and nutella. Both were very good. The savory crepe even came with a cute little side salad. Love love love their soy latte!! They use the good stuff, i.e. espresso beans from Counter Culture Coffee and high grade soy milk, which is more than I can say about other "cafes". Free Wi-Fi is a huge draw, as it's one of the best places in the area to spend an afternoon studying. I had their Hummus & Avocado panini and the amount of veggies they stuffed into it was impressive. Friendly staff, too. 5 compliments = 5 stars = One of my favorite Brighton Center stops! read more

The Nation brings you back for more like your neighborhood drug dealer. I frequent this place to study and it's the perfect answer for an otherwise miserable activity. I love sitting up near the window and looking out at all the traffic I'm not sitting in. The coffee is solid and not rob-you-blind expensive like Starsucks. The baristas (yes I know this word because my bros were), are all around good peeps and friendly. I haven't had that much food there, but I can tell you their chocolate chip cookies are stellar and so are the Panini's. One knock is you must get there EARLY on weekends to lock down seating as the place packs em in like sardines around 10:30am. read more

Came here for the first time today. While the green tea latte with matcha was great, the $9 omelette I got here was pretty bad. The eggs tasted overcooked while the veggies inside the omelette were barely cooked ( I got the mediterranean)....waste of money as i barely ate it. My boyriend got an egg sandwich and the eggs were again overcooked. I'm not sure if they use egg beaters here, but definitely wouldn't come back for breakfast. read more

Trendy little cafe at Brighton center. You get iPads and MacBooks lighting up the place, since the Internet is free. Most of their customers are college students or recent graduates, and hipsters.Is it good or bad? The answer is, it depends. The place gets busy over the weekend, and line usually form to the door. But it usually moves very quickly. i learn learn that a while ago, it is better to have a dish to talk about when i m writing a review. For this place, I actually don't have a specific dish in mind. The foods are good in general, and they comes in a big portion. One thing I did notice is, this place rotate through a lot of bodies. Most of the people who work there are students. So they come and leave the place. Occasionally you will run into someone new and has to slow down and trying to figure out what's gong on, which I think it is fine. Talking about kitchen, it is actually fun to watch them multitask on taking and fulfilling all the orders. In conclusion, great place to go for breakfast, if you don't mind the hipster feels. I personally fine with it, but one of my family friend think it is a bit too trendy. It is definitely not the old fashion homey diner. read more

Seeing this is my favorite coffee spot, I owe it a nice review. The coffee is amazing. I usually get hot latte - it's (at least) one of the best I've had in Boston, and I do like to explore coffee shops here. I come to Cafenation to get work done (the atmosphere and free wifi are perfect for that), to read, to have lunch, or to have coffee while looking out the window and then move on with my day, inspired. I never get anything to-go here, because I like the atmosphere quite a bit. This place has a feel of a small business it is, but definitely with thought and effort put into the interior and brand assets. The rotating art refreshes the already lively atmosphere. The owners are genuine people and work hard to keep improving the business and customer experience. They've treated my friends to some complimentary tea and muffins once (not to say you should expect that coming in here, but I thought it was an extremely nice gesture). read more

The coffee and espresso drinks are pretty good. The staff is friendly. Whatever that dressing is they pour over the greens is phenomenal. The panini are great! The sweet crepes are excellent. They make the crepe they use for the savory crepes with a a wheat batter, that sometimes just doesn't taste right. I wish they had a different batter for the savory crepes. They also sometimes use too much batter resulting in something that is more pancake than crepe. I would go more often if it wasn't 10,000 degrees in there at all times. And if it finding a seat wasn't such a daunting task. You see they have free wireless internet, so you know what means: patrons nursing the cup of coffee they got seven hours ago, composing a novel while they take up space scaring off customers who would spend money if only they could sit down. Three stars for the friendly service and good eats. Minus a star though until they invest in a proper HVAC system and kindly ask the free loaders to hit the road. read more

I'm so very happy that Cafenation is my neighborhood coffee shop. I find myself eating here way more than I probably should, but that's because they make stellar sandwiches. I'm not as big a fan of the crepes, but I adore their Wild Alaskan sandwich in bagel form (they're very flexible about modifications to orders), their roast beef sandwich, and their ham and brie combo. Their salad dressing is this magical, sweet dressing that they apparently now sell in bottled form, and they serve a great pot of Rooibos tea as well. I do wish the space was a bit bigger, because when you hit the Saturday morning breakfast rush, the place feels cramped with people waiting for their orders, but the waitstaff is cheery, the atmosphere cozy, and the food delicious. A great place to hang out, meet friends, or go on a first date. read more
