Love this place for lunch. Try the chicken pesto panini, and the lavash chips (they're like pita chips). The falafel appetizer & falafel wraps are out of this world. Ordering online is an unmitigated disaster. You are required to use your Living Social account to log in. HOW DUMB IS THAT?! It failed on me once, which pushed out my timeline. I was trying to order in a rush on my way to an event. Once I finally got the cart situated, I was not able to login with my LivingSocial username and password. I logged in on LivingSocial's website without a problem, and it never did work on cafesanos website. The pick up restaurant is uninviting too. Food is 3 stars, location/restaurant is 4 stars. We've been here twice now. The first time we tried the personal pizzas which were ok, but certainly not memorable. Today, we both had the chicken kabob platters and shared an order of the hummus w/ grilled pita. The hummus and pita were a nice start. And the chicken was flavorful and nicely presented but compared to the other amazing kabob in the area (Rose in Vienna, Ravi Kabob in Arlington, for example) Cafe Sano's was just average. The first time I ordered a catered lunch for my office was for a sales meeting with a prospective customer. Everyone raved about it. We have a wide variety of palates in the office, as well as food preferences (including a number of vegatarians). 06/20/2013 - Upgrading from 1 star to 3 because they sent me a gift card to cover the cost of my take out meal when I emailed them and told them of my bad experience. So, at least they did not dismiss the situation. We got take out from cafe sano today and will not go back. I ordered the chicken kabab platter. When I got home I found: 1. Salad - not enough to fill a small yoplait yogurt container 2. Pita bread - two tiny pieces 3. In Reston, you're not going to find much better. I've been going to Cafe Sano for lunch since it opened over 3 years ago. As soon as you walk in the warmth from the wood-fired oven and the savory Mediterranean aromas engulf you. The menu is typical of what you'd expect from a Mediterranean joint, kebabs, falafels, dolmites, wraps, and several salads. On top of it you'll find a great selection of gourmet brick oven pizzas. The veggie pie is one of the best, I just had it today. Free wi-fi is also an added touch on those days you want to get out of the house but not go to the office. You can easily spend a few hours here munching on hummus and babaganoush while surfing the web and getting some work done. The only reason Cafe Sano didn't earn five stars is that its slightly overpriced, but considering the difference between Sano and most other mediocre lunch spots, the additional buck or two are well worth it. read more

Very interesting concept. Probably most akin to a Panera, but without being an actual franchise/chain. Pretty good food and for pretty decent pricing served in a nice atmosphere. I had the Spinach Salad and Baba Ghanoush. Both tasted good, and I like that you order up front; but that they bring the food right to your table (using this pretty nifty RFID technology called Table Tracker: http://pager.net/Long-Range-Systems/Table-Tracker). The only thing I didn't like is that I didn't see place for recycling. They serve these pretty thick plastic cups for water/soda and people just chuck them in the trash :( read more

After a long morning of volunteer work at a shelter, my company decided to treat us to a lunch. So my co-worker recomended this restaurant. The location was awesome, it was over-looking a very cute lake. The floor plan was cery open & the restaurant was very clean! The food was also very delicious & light. Our group was about 10 people. We shared tomatoe bruchetta, humus dip, dulme. I had the arugala salad w/a side of chicken scewer. I was just reading through the reviews and decided that I like Cafesano so much that I should join the positive review crowd. My whole office enjoys the variety of food served here, so much that when we relocated to McLean one of us will occasionally drive to Reston and pick up lunch. I've lived in Reston for the last 6 1/2 years, and for the first 10 years of my life, and am glad to see such a place like this. They do very good business, and from what it seems they take very good care of their employees. They've recently had a day where they donated all their tips (and possibly earnings) in support of an employee who has very young daughter that is currently battling cancer. I started my new job nearby and stopped by for lunch at this location for the first time! The menu has so many selections to choose from. I went with the Beef Shawarma Wrap & it was so delicious (the baked chips were great too). That Garlic Sauce was soo yummy, I need more of that in my sandwiches/wraps. Woodfired pizzaz, an array of middle eastern and greek salas, skewers and if you have time enjoy overlooking the lake with a glass of wine. I had no idea this place was here, much less a whole strip mall! Grocery store, Starbucks, gas station, pet food store, CVS AND Cafe Sano! It was lunchtime, so I decided to stop here and grab a bite. Oddly enough, I had a craving for some hummus and pita, and pizza. I couldn't tell whether the hummus was made in-house or brought it, but it was good, especially with the warm pita. The pizza came fairly quickly. I had the Carne Amante (pepperoni, sausage, meatball) and it was meaty goodness! It was a thin crust/flat bread type of pizza. I think the 8" (4 pieces) can be viewed as just the right size; since I had the hummus, I was left with half of the pizza that I ate as a 'pre-dinner snack.' LOL read more

Still great after all these years, I stopped by Cafesano for lunch yesterday with a friend. The meatball panini is still incredible, with great meatballs on perfectly-cooked bread, and the lavash chips served with it are still crunchy and tasty as hell. I wish Cafesano was bigger (show up at 11:30 with your group of four, or face the consequences), and I wish you got a little more sandwich for the money. But for Reston, you aren't going to get much better than this close to all of the shady office buildings along Sunrise Valley, Hunter Mill and Wiehle near this location. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Reston. The food is absolutely amazing!! The grilled chicken parm panini is my go-to. Very quiet/peaceful place to eat after or before the lunch rush. Popped in here with a hungry family (wife, 15 year old, 12 year old, and 8 year old) on the spur of the moment. Love the relaxed atmosphere in an attractive decor. My son and I had the falafel wrap - mine with the greek potatoes and his with fries. My daughter had a kids pasta (farfalle) and my wife had a caesar salad. I thought the food was great for the price point. The falafel was excellent, but the greek potatoes weren't really anything more than fried wedge potatoes with a garlic aioli. It was fine, but nothing really great, but I didn't pay extra for them so it's a minor point. The fries were actually really good, funny enough. The caesar salad was good, but the parmesan doesn't really have much flavor. I was pretty surprised when I tasted it that an Italian/Mediterranean place doesn't use a higher quality parmesan. Under $30 including drinks. I will be working my way through their menu over the coming months now that I'm moving to Reston. read more

I went to Cafesano on a recommendation from my manager. I am soooooo glad she did! Its one of my new favorite places. Cafesano offers INEXPENSIVE Mediterranean style food. You order and pay at the front when you first walk-in. They give you a number and you sit down and someone will bring you your food when it ready! It has the cutest decor!! Now to the good stuff... THE FOOD!!! The beef shwarma is my favorite!! Sometimes they add too much garlic sauce and it ends up dripping out so try the garlic sauce on the side and add to your liking. The shwarma come with lavash chips on the side and this garlic paste type dip. Whatever it is, its yummy!!! Just make sure to have some mints or gum handy for afterwards because the garlic is intense!! lol! I'm also a fan of the cheese ravioli that comes with the delicious pasta sauce. Im getting hungry just thinking about it. Pasta dishes are only served for dinner though. I still have yet to try paninis, pizza and wine sampler but I will soon!!!! read more

Saw the photo of shrimp and steak combo and had to try it myself. Good flavor in all. The smoke/char flavor in the veggies was a stand out. As is common with kabobs, meats were medium to med-well done, so asking to keep things as med-rare as possible would keep more moisture in the meats. A wonderful Italian/Mediterranean restaurant, set up similar Panera Bread where you order at the counter and your food is delivered to you at your table. I had the Prosciutto and Mozzarella panini and it was the delicious! The chips that came with it, not so great. If I go next time and get an entree served with the chips I'll ask for a substitute side. A few friends got the lasagna dishes from there and all of them enjoyed it (both the veggie and regular lasagna). They have a great variety of desserts including cannolis! The atmosphere is fairly casual, decorated nicely, kind of loud, you can still talk with your friends it just can be hard to hear sometimes. The menu isn't bad, the decor is fine, the portions are alright. The food just isn't real good, and there's no way around it. I live exactly a mile from Cafesano, and I only eat there when my wife forces me. Is it Spice Town? No, thank God. But I'd gladly drive 10-20 miles past Cafesano for the exact same menu, only executed well. I feel like this place is really for people who are looking to eat small-ish portions of healthy-ish food. Met up with a friend on Tuesday for lunch here and had an excellent Prosciutto Panini. Served nice and hot, had fresh lettuce and included Mediterranean crispy pita-type chips obviously made in house. Nice tables, plenty of room and food is delivered to your table when it is ready. Was there for lunch and was in and out in less than an hour. It was raining when we were there, but it looked like outdoor seating is an option. They have a big menu and you order at the counter. There wasn't a line when we arrived but I did feel the menu was a lot to take in (it is online) and probably would have ordered something else if there was crowd pressure to make a rapid decision. Love Love Love Cafesano. I have never been disappointed here. The food is fantastic. They have something for everybody, pizza, kabobs, salads, sandwiches, etc. And they even serve wine! But by far the best things they have are the hummus, baba ganoush and tzaziki. Delicious! We have a hard time deciding which one to get for an appetizer. Just a quick note though. I don't think it's super kid friendly, but it's definitely not kid unfriendly. I would recommend Cafesano to anyone! read more

If the food existed in a vacuum, I'd give this place four stars at least- it's always been tasty and the pizza, in particular, is amazing! The coffee SUCKS, however. The worst cappuccino I have ever had. However the service here has taken a serious dive since the first time I came here six years ago. I think they must not treat their workers very well or the pay is very low because the workers are not on the ball at all (forgetting parts of orders, taking forever to bring out food, etc). The line to order moves very slowly- don't come if you're impatient or in a rush. The one counter guy is also in charge of bringing out soups, etc which slows down order taking even more. I also personally don't enjoy eating here because there are always a TON of kids running around. That might be a good thing if you have kids too, so I don't dock any stars for it, just want to point it out. Four stars for food, one star for service. One of the highlights of taking my most recent job has been the proximity of my office to some great dining spots in Reston, Virginia. Cafesano is among my very favorite places to go for lunch during the week, and once you head into the restaurant, the long line will prove to you that it is a popular location. The menu combines the best foods from Italian and mediterranean style cuisine. You can't go wrong with any of the choices. As of today, I have eaten everything on the menu. I've been going here on a semi-regular basis since December 2007. Without hesitation, I can recommend nearly everything on the menu. Some of my favorites include the Roasted Turkey Pesto wrap, which has the right balance of flavor. It is perfect for a light lunch and comes with Cafesano's great baked lavash chips and grapes. The Kabob Wraps are great, and the Grilled Portobello panini is oustanding. All of the pizzas are nicely priced, gourmet style personal dishes. The Margherita and Pollo are remarkable, and if you want to be really adventurous try the Del Mar--it comes with shrimp and pine nuts!! IMO The best lunchtime dish is the Greek Salad. Make sure you order this with a charbroiled skewer; the chicken and the shrimp are good choices. There is a decent selection of beverages too. I haven't had any of the coffees, nor alcoholic beverages. I usually grab a Pellegrino. Forget the sodas and grab a fresh lemonade! The one disappointment I had was with the oatmeal raisin cookie. At a $1.99 it should have been better than it was. The cookie was stale and seemed as if it had been sitting on the counter for too long. When I went back, I was offered another cookie, but to no avail, the second cookie was also stale. (But you are a healthy eater anyhow, right???) The staff are always friendly there and the service is efficient. It is apparent that they are treated well as employees since they always can be found smiling. If you go for lunch, be aware that it can be quite busy. There is plenty of seating, and there is a nice patio section which is close to Lake Thoreau. Also nice is a group table right by the counter. If you are adventurous, you can eat next to other people and start up a conversation quite easily. Overall, Cafesano is highly recommended! read more

My husband has ordered lasagne - flavorless. Lots of the italian items aren't that good. The hummus, tzatziki, baba ganoush dips are great. I heart them the most. I am not a fan of those pita chips they make. The flat bread that comes w/ the dips are good. Cafesano is a great little cafe with indoor and outdoor seating providing a range of foods mostly centering around Mediterranean. The food is always good and i enjoy the casual laid back atmosphere making this a great place for lunch or dinner. Prices are quite reasonable. It can get a bit busy and there is limited seating however i have never not been able to find a table to sit at. read more
