The kabob platters here are excellent! Hefty plates of flavorful, fresh meat, vegetables, and rice, with just the right amount of char on the meat and the vegetables. And the pita bread that comes with it is outstanding -- no matter how full I am or how determined I am to save it for another day, I always end up eating them all! Due to 2020, my recent experiences have all been through delivery (Door Dash). With food this good from delivery, though, I look forward to trying out the dining room again one of these days! (2021, I'm looking at you!!) One note that I did try Cafesano's pasta once and was underwhelmed. It was 'fine,' but perhaps their pasta just doesn't work well with delivery? Where has this place been all my life? The restaurant is very spacious. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You place your order with the cashier and then get a number card. The cashier was friendly and quick. You seat yourself, there is no server here. An employee finds your number and brings your food over. There is a counter with napkins, utensils, straws, sugar, sauces, etc. Help yourself. I don't want to hype up this place, but we really enjoyed ourselves. They have a big menu and it all looks great. We tried some of their dips and wraps and enjoyed it all. Their Combo Kabob Platter is also one of my faves. It was so fresh and clean to the palate. Prices are reasonable as well. First and last time I'll ever come here again. Ordered the steak and cheese panini. I understand fresh food takes time to prepare but we waited 20 mins which is way too long. The steak sandwich has zero flavor at all! I had to ask for extra chipotle Mayo just to give it a taste. I would have been better off making steakums at home which would have tasted better. Everything from cafesano is delicious- we always get a dip sampler (all dips are great, just order an extra pita if you're with a group). The pizzas are amazing, and the salads are excellent! I've never had a Caesar salad so good. The kabobs are great too- a bit pricey, but you get meat, vegetables, rice, salad, tzatziki and pita on one plate. I've always had pleasant experiences there however I wanted to give their alfredo a shot and I know this dish is hard to perfect. The sauce had already separated by the time I had got home (I live 2 miles). It was an extremely small portion for $12. It tasted pretty goo, however the large amount of oil at the bottom sort of made me sad. I was on the fence about my previous experience but decided to go back. No go anymore. I waited 40 minutes for a salad and a panini. Asked for extra pepperoncini and olives. Paid extra. Got a total for 2 pepperoncinis and about 7 olives. Not okay. Not coming back. Response to Gino - after 20 min of waiting, I asked where my food was, after being told 5 minutes. I waited 15 more minutes, then again asked where my food was. The place was jam packed, I had already asked twice and not one manager was notified nor did I feel the need to notify the manager as I had already sat there for 40 minutes. Once coming home it solidified my decision to not return. I find it more upsetting that places like this go out of their way to charge for "extra" ingredients but do not go out of their way to actually ADD the extra ingredients. Shame. read more

I am a regular here. Any time someone is visiting I take them to Cafesano. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They offer carry-out and catering. If you've never been here before, there are two locations in the shopping center. the corner one near the lake and across from Red's Table is the restaurant. The in the corner next to SafeWay is the catering place (no seating). I think you can sometimes pick up carry-out orders there but they have to tell you that over the phone. Favorites: Apps - try the Avocado Bruschetta or the hummus. Salads - Greek or Signature Vegetarian Friendly Entrees - Margherita or Greek Pizza. Grilled Portobello Paninin or a Falafel wrap. Dessert - Tiramisu is AMAZING. Baklava comes with two pieces. This place does get packed so sometimes there's a bit of a wait on the food. BONUS - They serve bottled beer and wine. I think they're still offering a deal where you text HUMMUS to a number to sign up for their email and you get a free appetizer. You just have to show them the text back you get from their system and the app is free. There should be a sign as soon as you walk in with instructions. read more

Been here twice in recent weeks and each time I have not been disappointed. I have had spaghetti and even the Italian cold cut and the food has been amazing both times. My daughter has had the pizza both times (typical kid) and she cannot get enough. Staff is very friendly, prices are reasonable and the food is incredibly fresh. We were a party of 4 hungry folks, who had a change of dining places on our minds. We had heard that the pizza place across from the new Whiele fire station was good. We walked in and were immediately disappointed by the look and bad smells coming from the inside. We left the place and headed for Cafesano where we've never been disappointed. The sad demise of a great restaurant. We used to love the atmosphere, food and service here, it was a gem in Reston near the lake. Over the years, the quality of service has gradually declined and it is really very sad to see. After the pandemic, I am not sure what happened but their service has really suffered. Orders are entirely incorrect, or come unacceptably late - and the attitude of the staff is not one that cares. Today we asked for a simple latte and cappuccino - that's all. The lady at the register said she couldn't serve us that. When I asked if the machine was not working, she said " the machine has been broken for the last six months" without batting an eyelid. Probably our last time going there. The excellent Red's Table which is situated across the walkway is an example of great food and high quality of service and making patrons feel welcome and cared for. I enjoyed my food here. I ordered the Greek pizza with grilled chicken added on. Served, the pizza looked like a piece of art, the fresh ingredients spread across the pizza. Every slice got a full palette of flavor, and no single thing was too overwhelming. I think this pizza would be great without chicken for those who are looking for something light. I wasn't very crazy about the staff. I wasn't looking to be wow-ed, but my server had a very visible "I hate my job"/"I want to go home" attitude when serving me. They used to have a lot more vegetarian-friendly options that they don't have on their menu anymore. When I asked the waitress about getting a custom panini that was veg friendly, she rudely laughed and said "no?". When I tried to get the meat paninis replaced with veg options, she kept being passive aggressive with me and repeatedly kept saying they didn't have any portobello or eggplant parm. I came on a Sunday afternoon and there were only a few families dining in and there was no line, yet she was so rude. Cafesano is one of my favorite spots for a nice lunch in Reston. I enjoy the kabob platter with chicken or steak, or the signature salad (I usually add a kabob). The signature salad comes with good slices of mozerella and a toasty slice of ciabatta. The platter has a little bit of everything: salad, rice, pita bread, tzatziki etc. The only negstive, the veggie kabob isn't always cooked consistently (thick slices of barely cooked zucchini. I haven't tried it yet but there pizza looks really delish, and their paninis are good too (chicken pesto is yummy). The outdoor patio is nice, seating does fill up during week day lunch hours. Fabulous! What more can I say..... CafeSano has a wide array of menu options for all types of diners. As a pescatarian I can ALWAYS find something to eat. My favorite meal is an Arugula salad with a shrimp and/or salmon skewer. The staff here is extremely nice and very helpful. I don't go out to Reston often, but this is a must when in the area! I met my friend here for lunch on a weekday. It is set up like fast food where you order at the cash register, but they deliver to your table. The offerings range from traditional greek fair to italian pasta to sandwiches. We had the olive and feta appetizer which was delicious. I had the side greek salad and a steak skewer. I really like that you can get 1 skewer of meat. My friend had the schwarma- she didn't really care for it because the meat was a bit fatty, she said. The homemade chips that came with it were very tasty, though. She instead ordered the kale salad, which was a fairly large portion. Overall, I really enjoyed the selection of fresh food! The space is really neat right on the water. I've been here a couple times now and everything I've had has been delicious - their wraps as well as their kabob platters! The chicken kabob platter has been my favorite so far! I also tried their Chianti and it was definitely worth getting. Outdoor seating is almost always full now that it's the summer, but try to snag a seat if you can! It's gorgeous outside and they deliver the food to your table. Don't forget to clean up your table afterwards and put your plate away near the trash cans! Came here quite a bit back in the day but had not been here for years, up until recently. One of my friends opted for her birthday lunch to be held at Cafesano, so a few of us met here on a Tuesday afternoon. I recall it can get quite crowded but we did not have to wait in line long at all, and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. We all opted for paninis, and a few of us had a beer or wine (I went with a glass of their [cheaper] Chianti, the Ruffino I believe). The beer + wine menu is one of Cafesano's neat attributes; sometimes you need a little adult bev to wash down your sandwich! I ordered the Prosciutto + Mozzarella panini, and I would definitely get it again. It was delicious! The mozzarella perfectly offset the saltiness of the prosciutto; definitely a fabulous combo. They have a wide variety of pizza options as well, which may be what I try on my next visit here. The view of the lake in the back makes it seem all the more relaxing, almost like being in a beach town. The servers here were all very friendly and quick to pick up our plates when we were finished. Aside from parking being limited since it is located in a bustling shopping center (South Lakes Shopping Center), I can't think of anything negative to say about Cafesano. I will definitely keep them in the forefront of my mind as a lunch spot when I'm out and about in Reston! read more

It's a thin crust pizza topped with grilled shrimp, roasted peppers, garlic, fresh mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, basil pesto and topped with toasted pine nuts. Cafesano is a great staple for the South Lakes Village Center. I've been a few times now and its location on Lake Thoreau is ideal, especially in nice weather. I've had both the BLT panini and the Caesar salad, and I like both! The salad is especially good, it's a really generous size and it has all the right ratio of toppings. The BLT panini was great as well and I love that it comes with the seasoned lavash chips (they're delicious). Service is prompt and friendly both for dine in and take out. read more

For years this spot in Reston's South Lakes Center was occupied by a restaurant called Marie's that was so boring had the soup not been so greasy and foul you could have fallen face-down asleep in it and drowned. Then one day Shazaam! Cafesano! I must have been traveling or something. I didn't see it coming. Heard no buzz (pre-Yelp!); saw no advertising; got no flyers under the door. Nothing. I couldn't figure out what it was. I looked for Marie's feet sticking out from under the foundation but couldn't find them. What it was and what it is: simply delicious. Nothing boring about Cafesano. It's sort of Deli, sort of Greek, sort of Mediterranean and completely great. Panini's, pizza, pasta, pastries, pickles, salads galore and a vast array of eggplant and chickpea based dips are all displayed in a glass enclosed area near the entrance and will have you drooling long before you get to place your order, much less before you dig your teeth into it. Worth the wait though. Warning: traffic gets heavy at lunchtime. This place is popular but it's reputation is well-deserved. Another warning: Unless you're interested in gaining an extra 10 pounds real quick Cafesano is best taken over time. So plan on visiting once a week for the rest of your life. Other things: Free Wi-Fi for those who insist on being connected at all times. Table service. You order at the counter and pick up a tray with a number and they bring your order out (very quickly). BTW, there is a tip jar on the counter. Plenty of high-, low- and booth-seating inside and a reasonably good-sized covered terrace outside when the weather permits. This place functions sort of like an upscale, italian version of Panera. Order at the counter, take your number-on-a-stick to your table, wait for your food. Everything we had was delicious, and there certainly seemed to be plenty of other options to try that sounded just as good. The bruschetta appetizer was really good, and didn't skimp on the tomatoes. The greek salad was plenty fresh, and my chicken parmesan panini was excellent. If you can snag a seat on the patio on a nice day, it's tough to beat the views and the atmosphere. read more

Cafesano is located in the South Lakes shopping center in the same spot where Marie's used to be. Unfortunately they do not offer the delicious Shish Tawok that Marie's used to, but my favorite thing to get here is their Del Mar pizza. I can't say enough about how good this pizza is - grilled shrimp, roasted garlic, pesto sauce, mmm.....all on their delicious crust baked in a real brick oven. For those who are watching their weight, their menu tends to lean towards the healthy light side so finding something nutritious, delicious and healthy is never a problem. The staff and management is very friendly. One thing I like is that they will find you and bring your carryout order to you when it's ready - I found this out one day when I was outside have a smoke and a nice lady brought my pizza to me. Parking can sometimes be a pain to find during the busy lunch hour as this shopping center is a very popular lunch spot, but still worth stopping by if you haven't been here yet. They also started offering free wifi this summer which I thought was a nice touch considering the clientele this place usually attracts. Come try it! Edit: On a recent trip I did notice that the price of my favorite pizza has gone up to $11.99 which disappoints me because it makes it a little too pricey for lunch. I had the roast beef panini which was great they come with these thin style pita chips which were yummy. Grape leaves are okay, but I think they have too many layers of grape leaf around the stuffing. Salads are AWESOME here; I love the Signature Salad and the Avocado Mozzarella Salad. Wood-fired pizzas are also a must-try - easy to eat one on your own or get the larger size and share, since they're fairly thin and not too bready. Cafesano is a Mediterranean-Italian fusion restaurant, where you place your order in the front and a waiter delivers it to your table. The restaurant is clean and well-decorated, which kicked the casual dining experience up a notch. The falafel appetizer is DELICIOUS. I love how it was crispy, seasoned well, and the tahini sauce that comes with it was good, too. I also enjoyed the combination platter with chicken and steak, which included a vegetable kabob, rice, a salad, pita bread, and a side of tzatziki. The housemade lemonade is really yummy as well. If you want to add anything extra to your meal, there's a seasoning bar next to the fountain drinks and utensils which include a huge selection of sauces and condiments like Sriracha, Tabasco sauce, A1 sauce, pepper flakes, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, etc. I thought that was nice.
