Alright this place was freaking Aweosme. Everything we had here was 10/10. I got a Cuban sandwich for breakfast and easily the best Cuban sandwich I've had on some really perfect fresh baked bread. Went back to try their "Best Pina Colada in San Juan".. and wow it literally was the best Pina Colada I've ever had in my life. So went back one last time for a snack, got their beef empanadas and their carnitas quesadilla. The empanadas were also best empanadas I've ever had and the quesadilla was pretty great too... Overall the Cuban sandwich and empanadas won me over, it's a good place to grab a beer and relax. Will def return.
First day in PR, mofongo is my first meal. I went with the fried pork and the local lager. Really friendly service and excellent food
The food was tasty, 10/10. The service was good; our waiter was friendly and kind, but waiting over 30 minutes for the food was long. At least the food was delicious! We ate outside, and it was nice to people-watch.
LOCAL WINNER!!! Located across the street from the Caribe Hilton, this place is super duper casual and clean. First of all, this is not a "Cafeteria", it's a casual restaurant serving great Caribbean classics EXTREMELY WELL. This place is a FIND for hearty food priced right with generous portions - the big plus is that all of the Staff/Kitchen workers are kind and happy! YAY, I Puerto Rico!!! Places like this are why I keep returning here... Apparently they're open for Breakfast , gotta try that but I went there for lunch at around 1PM and sat under their covered patio that gets a nice breeze from the ocean nearby. Their Roasted Chicken TO GO comes with a choice of side dishes, order the DELICIOUS Yellow Rice with Gandules (Pigeon Peas) and Sweet Plantains, it even comes with Bottled Water or a can of Soda! (NOTE: Avoid their beans if you don't eat Pork or Red Meat). And Foodies: The Roast Chicken here is NEXT LEVEL GREATNESS!!! It's priced right and the portion is GENEROUS, don't ya just love THAT! Many customers around me were ordering Mofongo's (mashed plantains or cassava cups) with fresh Shrimp or Chicken , they all seemed pretty happy. This place is makes fresh homemade food EVERYDAY!!! Stews , Meats , Salads , Healthy Smoothies (I don't think that they call them that, FYI) but boy oh boy is this team dedicated to filing your belly with delicious home-cooked eats!!! On Uber it's known as "Tropical Souvenir and Liquor Store" so take note if your Uber-ing from nearby Condado or Miramar. Go to head there today for breakfast, and find out their hours, the sleuthing continues!!! Hoping to post more pictures later. You can dress as you wish here but FYI, no one walks around here without a shirt, or, wearing just a bathing suit so, be respectful, the Puerto Rican people have so much to teach us regarding how to live with JOY! You can TASTE the JOY in this food, I'm convinced that it's prepared with LVE!!! Credit cards accepted, take out not a problem, walk to nearby Escambron Beach or at the nearby park just before you enter this street and have a picnic. For those who like a beverage with their meal, this place, which goes by MANY names has everything you need including non-alcoholic Piña Coladas and such. Say hi to Bey-Rohn-Ee-KAh (Veronica) and Manuel, everyone here is nice! The kitchen is slammed but you'll be rewarded with a great local experience with the beach breeze keeping you cool!
Cafeteria Tropical was such a good find on our trip to Puerto Rico! It is conveniently located right across the street from our hotel, so we basically ate there every day! Besides, who wants to pay hotel prices for mediocre food when you can get authentic Puerto Rican dishes for a fraction of the price?! We've had the mahi-mahi tacos, grouper, sandwiches (Jamon, Huevas, y Queso) and numerus other items. All were really good and the price point was prefect! We've also had their coffee - which once again, was really good! Service is quick and friendly. You can sit inside or outside. I like to people watch, so my preference is outside. Also, there is a bar/liquor/convenience store right next door you can get items and enjoy on-site. IF we stay close by again, you can bet we'll be here (probably on the daily).
Excellent fish tacos. The hot sauce really kicked up the flavor. It's still finding its staffing legs, but I have high hopes.
Came here based on the recommendation of a friend. You order at the counter and then you can sit at a table inside or outside. Or you can get your food to go. I ordered the fried pork chunks. It came with beans and rice and lettuce and tomato. I also ordered a side of sweet plantains. Plus a pina colada. All of that for less than $20. Bring cash because they don't take credit cards. The food came out quickly. The gentlemen working were friendly and helpful. The portion sizes were very large. The beans were amazing. The pork was a bit dry but still tasty. Loved the sweet plantains. The pina colada wasn't super sweet. Great meal at a much better price than the hotel we are staying at.

A much needed wallet-friendly respite from the hotel restaurants at Caribe Hilton. We stopped in for a quick lunch--a pretty good Cubano sandwich ($7), bangin' Mahi-Mahi tacos ($10), and two fruit smoothies. With tax, the bill was $30. The signs say "cash only," but they were nice enough to let us use our credit card to pay for our meal at the adjoining liquor store. Tropical Cafeteria is not much to look at, but it was clean, the people were nice and the food was good--and very cheap compared to the crazy hotel prices. We will be back to try the breakfast! read more

If you're staying at the Caribe Hilton and looking to escape pricey hotel food, walk across the street to this delicious spot. It's certainly nothing fancy, but offers really good Puerto Rican dishes and American comfort food at a great price. The Pork and Beef with onions meal was really delicious, and it came with rice and beans. A side of sweet plantains was a perfect snack here too. Definitely visited this place more than a few times during my stay at the Caribe Hilton. Don't forget: cash only. read more

If you want true how everyday people eat, this clean, friendly "hole in the wall" delivers. Its small and super clean. Inexpensive and very good cafeteria grub!!! Cash only. Maho mahi tacos are DELICIOUS! Rich and creamy island coffee for a fraction of starbucks. Nice portions! Small joint, but wonderful home-style cooking, a locals favorite!!!! read more

If you are staying at Caribe Hilton or in the area you wanna make sure this is a stop! Quick, convenient, tasty and reasonably priced. Lots of Puerto Rican favorites- some breakfast items as well as lunch/dinner served. You can order for takeout or stay there and enjoy your meal, air conditioning is on point so if you wanna escape the caribbean heat for a few- this spot is great. Don't expect fancy, local low key place. Chill out! :) THE FOOD: I got the deep fried pork chunks (so healthy, i know)...chicharron puerco, think it was like $9.95 and included salad and a huge portion of rice/beans. My friend got the mahi mahi tacos and i tried them- they were great. She got three HUGE tacos for like $8.95. We also got a side of sweet plantains that were awesome! They have a bunch of options, french fries/salad/arroz habichuelas (rice/beans) for sides. A few of the desserts in the freezer looked good as well. Didnt try as I am not much of a sweets person. I know, im horrible. Just got on the island today and tried this place out first- so happy i did! Gonna wind up back there another time or two by the end of the week im sure. I love fish tacos and the 3 Mahi Mahi tacos at this joint were magical - seriously rocked my world. I need to learn how to make fish like that! It was fresh and had amazing flavors in every bite. Skillfully prepared, the fish had flavor that seeped straight through the entire fillet. The papaya smoothie was well blended. I really enjoyed my lunch here! My bf got a white fish dish with salad, rice and beans. I liked my tacos better, but he was happy with his meal. Reasonably priced for generous portions. Right next to the Caribe Hilton, which has more expensive, less flavorful food at their restaurants (I'm talking hotel bar and their Pina Colada restaurant). Good coffee, good eats. Two shop in one. A small restaurant with seating for 12 or so and a small liquor/convenient store. Great place to visit to pick up some drinks for your min fridge if u r staying at Hilton caribe. A bit pricer than the average liquor store but cheaper than the hotel. For example a cheap barefoot wine (not that I drink it or there's anything wrong with drinking it) that's 6-8 bucks in Ny is $17 in the store. Also offers all type of liquor and some beer. The restaurant next door is friendly and offers a large variety of food for breakfast lunch and dinner. While we were there at least 6 other guests showed up. I actually did not really care for this restaurant: the food is almost as expensive as the resort across the street, the dish I had was pretty mediocre, and whatever oil they used to fry their food in did not sit so well with my stomach or the person I ate with. For $13, I got three tacos and a bottle of water, which was about the same price as the Hilton. I did not try the breakfast, but it appeared to be much cheaper than the lunch selections. BEST BREAKFAST! My boyfriend and I stayed at Caribe Hilton where the food there is a total rip off, especially with what you get. We got 5x the amount of food and we still saved money! Their French toast was to die for and loved that I could take fresh, cut, cold fruit to go! (Blueberries n watermelon). I'm only disappointed that we found this place on the last day of our trip (we've been here for a week). Don't waste your money on the hotel food! Walk the 500 feet down the street ( you can see it from the entrance of the hotel) and eat AMAZING food and still leave with money in your pocket! read more

Steps away from El Caribe so why wouldn't you go? Aromatic spanish coffee, thick and rich avena!!! The bread they use for toast is light, flaky and toasted to perfection. Omelettes are a healthy portion. Small space, bumping music. You definitely feel the flavor of Puerto Rico!! read more

Actually walked past it twice before realizing it's what we were looking for. The sign says Souvenirs and a local brand of beer but if you see "TROPICAL", that's it. Coffee is a fabulous latte. Service is awesome. Fresh food cooked to order and generous portions for a great value price. Cash only and worth it.. We'll be back! read more

Cute little restaurant. Huge variety of ethnic food for reasonable price and different taste preferences. My daughter got steak with peppers and onions. Theres even a huge selection of sides. We had some difficulty deciding. read more

CHEAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! Came in for a quick breakfast and I was so surprised! I did read the reviews and I was unsure so a group of us tried it out. Wow, were we shocked. Great Spanish music played in the background while we ate. I ordered 2 eggs with cheese, bacon and toast. My brother had pancakes, 2 fried eggs and my sister had a tripleta sandwich! 3 ppl are very well for $36 (opposed to the $100 breakfast buffet we had at the Pradera at Caribe Hilton never again) While we are breakfast a man right outside was selling fresh coconuts for $3 washed my meal down with some coconut water. Not much seating Only downfall is they charge u $1.50 to dine in but whatever. overall if u want both cheap/good food come here! read more

Sooo yummy! Right next door to a liquor store, so it doesn't look like much from outside, but the food is delicious. A perfect place to go if you're tired of spending $$$ for mediocre food at the Caribe Hilton. We went twice in one day. Breakfast was fantastic, especially the oatmeal and eggs/bacon. Coffee is strong. Dinner was great too. I had a cubano and my mom had the sopa de pollo. Both were so good! read more

Very good comfort food! I wanted to try some authentic Puerto Rico specialties, this restaurant showed up on my search and is right across the street from my hotel (Caribe Hilton). I was pleasantly surprised! The outside looks a little rough but the inside is clean and the service was very good. The food...that was amazing! I had shrimp mofongo in the red sauce (it was described as a gravy - it is tomato based with bell peppers and onion). My dinner was packed full of perfectly cooks shrimp and my fist bite made me smile, it was the perfect comfort food. read more

Convenient, clean and tasty food. The staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining and showing us the lunch specials. We had true authentic puerto rician pork chops, so delicious!! The bacon cheeseburger had the best quality bacon on it and the french fries were so good!! I would definitely stop in again on my next visit! read more

Here is a simple place, with fair prices, and most importantly great food. I come here often, its a local joint that doesn't try to be fancy and doesn't overcharge you. People are always nice and place always seems clean. Their fried snapper is to die for. They have breakfast till very late and can accommodate various food options. Definetly worth a try! read more

This place is great, small comfy place to eat while your in Old San Juan. Parking is right next door... This place is great, I would've but 5 STARS but the chairs hurt my butt ! I would like to sit comfortable to eat. We will definitely come back. And it's close to the beach !!!! read more

Delicious food and very cheap, especially for the area! We loved our fish tacos and rice and beans. We got a ridiculous amount of food for the cost, which was $15 for 3 overstuffed fish tacos, rice and beans, and drinks. A great place to eat that's close to the beach. It also features a convenience store. read more

Although the wait is kind of long... It's well worth it... It's less then a 5 minute walk from the Caribe Hilton and better then any of the food you get at the hotel... Staff is nice.. Coffee was great... And it's a lot cheaper... Definitely a go to if you're staying at the hotel.... read more

Ate here a few times during our Caribe Hilton stay. The awning is different from other pictures, but it is the same place everyone is reviewing. Is a little hole in the wall, and a great find! Large portion breakfast and lunches. Food is hot and fresh. Great price, especially compared to eating at the hotel. We had omlets, breakfast sandwich, Mahi Mahi fish tacos and burger and fries. I don't think we have anything bad to say about any of it. Service is ok. (Take note-the place next door does sell liquor but it is $$$ expensive! Not sure if it's all the same establishment or not. We stayed at the caribe hotel and thanks to yelp reviews went here one day for breakfast the next for lunch. This place is great. Reasonably priced good food and friendly staff. There isn't a lot of seating but we didn't have a problem plus you can take it to go. I had an omlete with bacon (comes on the side) and it was good. It came with bread. Today I had the mahi mahi tacos and it was soo good! I would never usually order this but because it had good reviews I did and I'm so glad I did. Get some hot sauce and squeeze the limes on it and it was one of my favorite meals in PR. read more

I had the fried red snapper or chillo, with salad and fried ripe plantain. Also they have beers and other beverages. Any other typical Puerto Rican food. The prices are good, the preparation was Tasty and the staff are nice. This is a much better place to grab a quick lunch than in the hotel itself as the food there is way too expensive.
