Waited 10 min for sandwich brought from counter to register because as explained by the manager 2 orders are processed simultaneously so I waited for somebody's coffee to brew. Need to change policy and fire manager. Food was terrible. Server wanted to toast my Brie sandwich for a good reason. The bread was stale, at least 2 days old. I couldn't help but check it out , as it was the epitome of where I would want to grab coffee and work on my computer- it has a library of books, two floors, located on a vibrant street of foot traffic and great views. The coffee is good but I had to knock off 3 stars for cleanliness. There is never any soap in the bathroom, which is a big red flag, especially during a pandemic. I asked for some soap, I was then offered hand sanitizer, hand sanitizer is okay for in between use but definitely won't get the germs from after just using the bathroom. Cdiff isn't killed with hand sanitizer but rather hand washing...The lack or cleanliness is enough to make me avoid this place altogether. read more

Eh. It wasn't bad. Coffee was good but they don't ask you if you want it for here and just send you on your way. It's kinda dirty here, and the way the girl at the counter jumped when getting something from the counter makes me think she saw a bug of some sorts. Main complaint is the amount of non customers they allow to be sleeping people here or people from the street bringing some random food to eat here. First and only time here. And this may be location specific, but I was expecting way more based on the website. The display of sandwiches is kinda sad looking. The whole ordering process is clumsy. They ask you what you want, way before you can see a menu. And the line felt slooowww. They have what look like menus near the front, but it's just a bunch of food words. Awful service. Staff are more interested in talking amongst themselves than helping you--they have better things to do and you are not important. A full reboot needs to happen to the staff there. There are also a large amount of homeless people that hang in and around the cafe asking for money. If you have the time and are not staying in there, grab a coffee and leave. The atmosphere in this cafe is amazing and I would love to hang out here. The food also looks superb although I did not try it. From seeing all this I was very excited to try it out! However I was extremely disappointed with the Americano I ordered. It tasted very watered down with not enough espresso. This place (Summer St specifically) is FABULOUS!! The staff is consistently quick, kind and proficient. Shout out to the manager, Delvin, who ensures things keep humming along both behind the counter and in the cafe. He's great at keeping a keen eye on cleanliness and customer service. :) Starbucks has been my favorite spot for decades...like their iced Americano...but hands down prefer Cafe Nero's hot expresso drinks. Freshly ground and hand pressed/pulled expresso makes all the difference. AND: the drinks are so hot that even I need to wait a minute before sipping. In the atmosphere department? Caffe Nero wins hands down again!! I am giving this location one star for a specific reason, or perhaps, a repugnant combination of two -- shitty WiFi, and staff that don't care or aren't trained to handle the issue in an intelligent way (or aren't able to figure it out on their own). This is a major pet peeve. My computer is sometimes cranky and refuses to connect to a weak signal. It's not common, but it happens. At some places -- including at least one other Nero location where this had happened --the staff will acknowledge the issue and attempt to address it. Thus, imperfect WiFi, but concerns and attempt to address it by the staff. Good customer service. Then, there is the other type of place, where you bring up the issue, and 1) they act as if it's the first time anyone has had difficulty accessing the internet at their location -- which is complete B---; 2) they don't respond in any helpful way, or even by saying "sorry." I approached two staff about the issue at this location this evening. When I brought it up with the first, he seemed to care, but it seemed like his circuits just overloaded by the complexity of attempting to respond. He sort of looked at me sympathetically for a moment, and then wandered away. Staff member #2 just didn't give a s---. He was the one who said no one had ever had a problem with their internet before at their location. Then he shrugged, and looked away. If you go to a coffee shop to work and you can't, it can be a significant inconvenience. It might be a time of day when other locations are closing (this was) you might have walked there several blocks from your car (I did, this is a downtown location). Maybe you got dinner beforehand instead of at home (I did). Then, you walk to the coffee shop, spend 15 minutes unsuccessfully trying to connect, and that's it. Ok -- so these circumstances might be a little idiosyncratic. It still caused me to blow significant time, but something that I wouldn't have purchased if I knew I wouldn't be able to work there, and finally, experienced the frustration of a poorly trained or non-s-- giving staff. Here's a suggestion coffee shops -- train your employees on what to do when there is an issue with the WiFi. They won't always be able to fix the problem, but it feels better if staff are at least empathetic when equipment problems at your store inconvenience someone who needs to work in the evening (and would probably rather have done something else). Incidentally, I see this location is rated lower on yelp than other Nero's. I'm not surprised. read more

First time having Caffe Nero for our Sunday breakfast. Before ordering I noticed some tiny fruit flies hovering by their muffins. While I am waiting for my order 2 flies landed on a muffin having a feast. Told one of the staffs about their fly problem as I left the store. i am a barista at a different coffee shop and these are honestly the rudest baristas i've ever had to encounter. they rolled their eyes at me when i ordered didn't have whip cream and refused to make any when someone asked about it because they "ain't feel like it" and called a customer a bitch loudly as they left. the music was super loud and hard to study with and the cafe was dirty. if i could give this a negative star rating i would. i never give reviews genuinely because as a food service worker i'm pretty understanding but this was the worst experience i've ever had. read more

Atmosphere is good, coffee is still bad. It's not just Cafe Nero, it's most places in the us. I don't know who teaches the baristas but they just burn the milk until they get enough foam and let it go. It ruins the coffee. This location is my second favorite location so far that I've visited but it was close. Place is spacious clean and it's right downtown. They have Sane menu as all other Cafe Nero's but this one and one on on Washington Street I love maybe cause of all the people especially in the warm weather this time I was here with a friend we were having coffee and some cookies I got my usual double espresso with oatmeal cookies and their oatmeal cookies are so soft and chewy I have to be careful I could easily eat 1/2 dozen like breaking sticks. The coffee is always nice and strong with a nice froth. As for seeing people here last time I was here or maybe Washington St I met a mom and daughter here from California on a college search they happened to sit with me and we were talking it was nice I enjoy chatting and welcoming people I think they also enjoyed the conversation coffee sandwiches and pastries they got. An impressively spacious and beautiful cafe in the heart of downtown Boston. The food and coffee, however, is just so-so. Their coffee and espresso are a little weak and not the most flavorful. The espresso drinks have more milk than they should. I ordered tea once here and was given the wrong type of tea. This Cafe Nero isn't all that bad.. the location is perfect if you are getting off at the Downtown Crossing section. My coffee was mediocre that being said though I just got the single origin black. The service is typically pretty slow. The barista don't seem to care to please you at all. I found coffee grounds in my brewed coffee during my last visit. I'd say Caffe Nero's strengths are definitely their coffee-based drinks. Lattes and espresso are delicious. Hot chocolate is not as good. The food in general is quite good and I love that they have a lot of sandwich and pastry options. The interior is actually very home-y and comfortable, with lots of seating. Although it's a very popular place for people to work, so it can be hard to find seating (especially for more than one or two people). Service is pretty fast considering the sheer volume of people who come through the Downtown Crossing location. read more

Very trendy and neat looking, but over-hyped. Seems like you pay more for the ambiance than for the drinks. Their chai tea latte was not very good. Tasted very musky, and didn't have much flavor. The sort of flavor where I crinkled my nose at the taste, but was good enough to finish it anyways. Other drinks are decent, like the Hot Apple Cider, so perhaps it's hit-and-miss. The way they take orders can be a bit frustrating. There's simply a long line of people running down the service counter, and they'll just try to find the next person who needs to be served. I see my annoyance echoed in other reviews, where they are essentially forgotten by the employees unless they raise their voice to make themselves known. It would be much less chaotic if they simply had a line to a cashier, who took customers orders, then have the customers wait in a different area. The sitting area is very nice; lots of chairs and a big community table. Decorations like books and low hanging lights make it a nice, cozy environment. The problem: they are always so incredibly packed, that you can almost never take advantage of this atmosphere. Overall it's a nice cafe, but with average drinks and an over-crowding issue, I usually prefer elsewhere. read more

This is my favorite location. The baristas here are great and never rush your order. The space is relatively large as well so it's not too difficult to find a place to sit and get some work done! I have gotten their vanilla latte which is perfectly brewed and green tea with honey. I frequent this location often giving its convenience. However, their customer service is worst each visit. I tried to order a caramel macchiato this morning but the server claimed he couldn't hear me and keep asking me to repeat my order. When he finally heard me, he seem so annoyed and gave me an eye roll. I saw it and called him out it and told him I am all set with the order. He didn't apologize or anything and just walked away. But I'm a good guy with great intentions who likes a good cappuccino when he orders a cappuccino.
