Caffe Amici has long been a favorite for my family so I was very upset when my wife and I took the chance and ordered out the Veal Masala last night (we usually order the chicken version). Wraps are are great. Zeppoli's are great. Pizza is ok. Sometimes round pie is greasy, not enough cheese. Sometimes Sicilian isn't heated enough and the cheese is kinda firm and thick. Got Shrimp scampi entree tonight for take out for $30. We only ordered it because we realized on the way home from Satellite pizza that we should have got 2 orders from there and not just 1. We figured we'd just call it in at Cafe Amici which is close to home....big mistake. 8 medium, chewy shrimp, 1 small side. That's it. We picked pasta as a side, thank god, because it doesn't come with spaghetti/linguine like pretty much everywhere else. $30 for that. And their pasta was just penne in a small square tin. Satellite pizza was a dollar cheaper and came with huge shrimp and a ton of spaghetti. So delicious. Fed 3 people with that one. My wife and I just dined at Cafe Amici tonight. This is my second visit. Mondays and Tuesdays is Pasta night in addition to the regular menu. First , our server Matthew was just incredible. He was really attentive and friendly. We had Caesar salads, followed by Cavatelli with prosciutto, onions in a light red sauce; and linguine with white clam sauce. Both had cheesecake and choice of beverage, including wine, beer soda and at dessert, coffee or tea. $ 20.99. The pasta dishes are totally fresh and outstanding. We eat here often, our choice for Italian. Love their pasta nights and chicken parm. Wednesday ordered takeout 2 chicken parm, side was pasta with vodka sauce. How do you manage to screw up chicken parm. The chicken was so tough it was almost like it was leftover. The side of pasta was just as bad and no vodka sauce. I wouldn't complain but I waited all day to have this, saved up my calories and treated myself. Not cheap either so now will need to find another place to get my chicken parm. Just had to write. I have been living out here for 4 years and have gotten take out dozens of times with no complaints. Had one of the best meals ever tonight for Valentine's Day. Everything was perfect . I ordered the special Chilean sea bass dish. First time there, for a 50th Anniversary Party of some great friends. Since I live in Whitestone, I wasn't looking forward to the 1 hr & 20 minute drive, but it's what you do for friends, right?? What a FANTASTIC restaurant!!!! Great looking place with plenty of parking, pretty big place with high ceilings, creating a nice open space. We had our own area, since there were about 50 of us. Our host & hostess picked a great menu, which included a variety of appetizers (shellfish, mozzarella sticks & a buttress tomato dipping sauce. Next was a FANTASTIC pasta course, then a salad, then our choice of Main Course, which included a full variety of options. I had the Veal Parm, which was DEEEELISH, & HUGE!!! Oh, bottles of red & white wine were on each table, as well. Then cake and an assortment of Italian cookies, cannolis, etc. Every aspect of this party was PERFECT!!!! And I can't forget the AWESOME STAFF!!!! Cheerful, friendly & totally accommodating!!! If I lived closer, I'd be a regular, like my friends that made the party. They are one of these places that each table has a bill. An aid who was cited figure out the bill of a group of 12 blind people. We were told manager wasn't available to override the "system ". When I said if I sat at another table you would take my check separately she said yes but that has to be done in the beginning so it can be done they just don't want to do it And this idea of making the customer figure out what their check is is grossly inappropriate. I will recommend this restaurant every time! I had a friend come in from overseas and I immediately had to bring her here. They have pasta nights(usually tuesday and wednesday), where you can get a starter, a drink of choice, an entree and a small dessert for basically the same price you would pay during the week. They are accommodating if you want a different type of sauce, and they also allow you to order off the pizza menu as well. My husband ordered the stromboli because he didn't want pizza and they brought it right out. there is also a small area of self seating where you can eat pizza if you order right from the counter. The hostess stand is a little awkward because it's further into the restaurant so when you are waiting to be seated alot of times you are in the way and don't really know where to stand. read more

I grew up in Selden and this was our families go to pizza joint. I went back this weekend for a visit and even though we were up in Port Jeff Cafe Amici was the only place open past 10 Pm. I called to order a couple of pies. Took a little longer than I was quoted but oh my it was just as delicious as I remember. I might have been a bit biased for nastalgia reasons but it was incredible and very close to what I remember minus the 90's neon lights in the back "fine dining" area. You can't go wrong with Italian food. Well, perhaps if you're gluten free or watching your carb intake or you're a vegetarian...okay, well if you don't mind indulging, try Caffe Amici. Back when my girlfriend and I first started dating, she took me here for a sit down dinner on a Tuesday night. Why Tuesday? Well CA boasts a pretty awesome dinner special on those evenings (and Mondays) and I remember feeling quite pleased by the end of it (even if they were out of their signature garlic knots). That was before my Yelping days. Flash forward to a few weeks ago, when we were heading back from Smith Haven Mall and unsure what to eat for dinner. Then pizza came to mind. Amici? Surely! I actually hadn't had their pizza on that Tuesday years ago so I was hoping for similar quality to their pasta. We'll call it a success. I mean the glass case holding pizzas was gargantuan with so many different styles and some unique options too. One of those original items were buffalo garlic knots. Huh? I've never heard of such a thing, but you don't have to tell me twice. Besides those, we grabbed a few regulars knots (finally!) and several individual slices of varying toppings. It took a few minutes to decide this, but the staff was patient and constantly ready for our eventual order. Back home we dove into the box of doughy goodies. I had chosen a grandma slice and a spinach pinwheel while the lady went for a white and a chicken parmesan slice. The pinwheel was chopped in half (I like when they do that) which made it easier to chow down on. The spinach wasn't watery and worked well with the cheese and crust. My grandma did the trick as well (that sounds weird). The GF liked her slices too. As for the knots, the buffalo had a hint of that flavoring though not as spicy as I might've hoped. Those original knots were worth the wait. A wee bit oily, but large and in charge. Overall, Caffe Amici is a quality Italian dining location worthy of a trip. It's got a chic yet comfy style, if you're looking to sit down and stay awhile (Mondays/Tuesdays!), and a nice pizza selection when on the move. I'll be back again soon, probably with the female, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was to start off the week. Knots anyone? read more

My friends and I come here once a month on their pasta Tuesdays, we've been doing this for many years. We've always been so happy with the service, the food, everything. However the last few times we went things seemed to have drastically changed. Multiple times getting our orders completely wrong. Some examples being; ordering a dish with no meat in the sauce, came with meat. Asking for extra mozzarella melted on-top of the pasta, they bring out cold shredded pasta and charged $7.00 for "salad mozzarella". Asking for their cheesecake with the delicious raspberry topping, coming out completely sloppy to the point where we didn't eat it. Now I know these things sound petty but after coming here for so many years and being so happy to coming four times in a row and being unhappy I think it's important for the restaurant to know. New change in management? Undertrained staff? New chefs? There was one other thing that really, really sealed the deal for us to take a break from this restaurant for a while was the fact that we made a reservation-as usual, showed up on time and still waited for almost an hour. When we got to our table we were sitting right under the air conditioning vent and it was leaking profusely...dripping on all of us, dripping in our food, we were not happy. When we asked if we could move to the table next to us the hostess told us no, they have reservations for that table in 45 minutes but if we wanted to get up and wait around for another table we could...also not knowing how long that could be. We asked again to please move after the drips fell in my drink and the brown stains on my white shirt was it for me. Obviously something needs to be cleaned and fixed. We moved to the table next to us, the hostess and three waitresses came to us with such horrible attitudes, then telling us if we sit here it's going to drip on us too so there's no point in moving, just deal with it. That was the point when we decided to leave. One of our friends said to just let it go, let's stay and next time we can go elsewhere. We ordered, two of the dishes coming out differently than how it was ordered and one of the girls ended up just not eating it at all. Totally understandable for there to be a mistake here and there. That's life, nothing will ever be perfect. But this has been consecutive the past 4 - 5 times. Unfortunately we won't be returning for quite sometime and we are eager to try something new. We are hoping to return in the future with better staff, more consideration and less attitude from staff. First of all I had a wonderful experience. I know that customer complaints and altercations are usually frowned upon by staff, but my experience was the total opposite. I had ordered the lobster ravioli on Uber for pick up, and I was offered a gluten-free option (not for allergy reasons, just personal diet choice), which I selected assuming it would be gluten-free ravioli. However, once at the restaurant, I was given a plate with what looked like rigatoni pasta instead of ravioli. I inquired with the staff, and they informed me that this was their only gluten-free option. I went back to the car, and my partner, for whom the pasta was intended, was not happy because there was no lobster or ravioli. I returned to the restaurant and spoke with the manager, explained the miscommunication and the error on my part, and asked if I could get a little ravioli. Not only did she agree, but she was also very kind and courteous. The food was amazing. This was my first experience with this restaurant, but I will definitely be back. read more

I'm still doing my bucket list of great pizza on Long Island. So, I used to live in Centereach and would go to the Home Depot shopping center where I found you restaurant. I would consistently get the square slice covered in massive sausage and peppers, just awesome! On todays journey, this was the best regular slice of the day and I'm not surprised. Cafe Amici has been here forever, and there is always a line to pick up pizzas & dinner. Several years ago they expanded their restaurant. As with many pizza/Italian restaurants, there is now seating for pizza and more elegant seating for dining. Even the plain pizza is yummy. They make various types. The heroes are good, but I think they should use a tasty marinara sauce to finish them instead of the plain tomato sauce they use. Their calamari is almost always great, their salads are wonderful, most of their main dishes are very good, but I was personally a bit disappointed in their mixed seafood over pasta. I would prefer a fresher mixture of seafood. The chicken dishes have been consistently good. Their garlic knots & bread are great as well. For the average eater, I think it's a very good restaurant, but for a foodie, it's good... maybe an 85-88 on their report card! read more
