Sad to say we have frequented Cafe Prego every Sunday the past 12 years always ordering the pizza and cappuccinos. Now The pizza is so disappointing that we haven't been more than twice this year. It started declining last year but this year it is now not edible! The pizza crust is tasteless. Please bring back the pizza dough you used to use. read more

Nice laid back atmosphere. I really like the way that they set up a table on the side for waiter to serve the dishes without making direct contact with customers. The side table also serves as a place for us to put our finished plates to further minimize the contact with the staff. I especially love their lobster cannelloni, very rich and flavorful. read more

Everyone smiling, welcoming, and those little things stick out when I reflect on our experience having lunches and dinners at Cafe Prego. On our most recent visit, the caprese was perfect; nicely ripened tomatoes with just a little bite, rich mozzarella and fresh basil. The bruschetta modi crostini was served just as fresh with 8 pieces including marinated artichoke hearts, mushrooms, Vidalia onions, tomato confit and pancetta. On a chilly, overcast Spring day, they make sure everyone on the deck has the warmth of a small heater. Nice touch. Can't wait for our next visit back! read more

Restaurant was tuned into COVID and did a great job with explaining rules and distancing tables. Service was fast and friendly. Unfortunately, the food was not so great. I had a pizza with gluten free crust. I never expect much with the GF crust, but this was even more rubbery than usual. My wife had the lobster in a cream sauce and thought it was salty, too much sauce and not that much lobster. I hate giving bad reviews, but this was our experience. read more

We often come to Caffee Prego to relax, listen to some nice Italian music, socialize and enjoy some great wine and food. Today I decided to have a Bellini. Wow it was delicious. I had watermelon soup. I wasn't sure about that but it was fresh and cool. Yummmmm. Our salad (I forgot to take a picture of my Insalata Estiva (Baby spinach, fresh figs and Gorgonzola cheese and Arancini with sausage). Everything was delicious. We enjoyed Caffe Prego, but the service can be a bit slow and inattentive, and the breakfast was lacking. The garden area is beautiful and makes for a really nice ambiance if you sit on the porch. We had two visits to Prego during the weekend. Dinner - the outdoor seating was great due to available space heaters, but they kept breaking so we ended up a bit chilled. We asked a couple times for water refills and I think our waitress was busy/forgot. The food was solid, but not amazing. The gnocchi had an odd sweetness to it, but the pasta itself was fluffy and well made. The chicken parm had what we considered an exciting eggplant addition when, but it was lackluster in the dish and didn't really add anything. Breakfast - this was pretty disappointing. Higher prices than other breakfast locations in the area and much smaller servings. Things like no toast with the omelettes and a few scattered homefries (seemed like an after thought) made this a little sub par. Food was ok. Waitress Catherine couldn't have been nicer. Got a round of drinks before dinner. My mom, who was celebrating her 80th birthday, ordered a Manhattan with Maker's Mark straight up. When it came, it was very light. When she tasted it tasted very watered down. She didn't want to make a fuss but we asked the waitress to take it back as it had clearly been shaken with ice which melted in the shaker. Catherine took it back to the bartender and she returned a few minutes later to tell us that the bartender insisted that it was a regular Manhattan so there wasn't really anything they could do (how about make it the right way by stirring it) and she put the same, now even less chilled drink back in front of my mom. How about next time you 1. Make the drink correctly 2. If the customer (who definitely knows her manhattans) doesn't like it, remake it properly. For the cost of a shot of Makers, you could have made a customer happy on her 80th birthday. read more

We tried this restaurant for the first time this evening. The food that actually came out of the kitchen was very good. One in our party ordered a personal 11" pizza that never came to the table. We asked about it several times, each time we were told "5 minutes more" this was over a 20 min period. She left hungry, and we will probably not be back. This was originally one star, but I needed to move it up to three, as the manager gave us a $25 gift certificate on the way out. It was good business for him to do that, and we were thankful for the gesture. read more

I could not have been more disappointed with our meal at this formerly great spot last night. The recent change in ownership was not kind. No more lasagna, no more salad with blueberries, the bolognese has been stripped down to a shadow of its former self, and most importantly, no more Jeff. No doubt the rotating weekly vacationers won't know what they are missing. Unfortunately regulars like us will. I shall now cast myself into the sea. We've been impressed with the food and atmosphere at Caffe Prego for more years than I can remember. This year was very different. First the good aspects of the evening. Our server was wonderful, very attentive and nice. My wife had the mushroom/sausage/onion pizza and it was delicious. The Truffle Fries were also very good and the wine selection, while minimal was good with many fine wines to choose from. The problem was my dinner. I ordered Haddock Piccata, which in past years was delicious. However, this year was dramatically different. When cooked properly, fresh haddock should be flaky and soft, this haddock was very tough and certainly not flaky. I couldn't eat it, only had two or three inedible bites of the haddock and only a taste of the pasta. The sauce was good but was so turned off by the tough haddock that I couldn't eat the pasta and left a full plate of food. I alerted our server and she took the food away but no one offered to take the meal off the bill. Very disappointing and it is unlikely we'll go back anytime soon. When a guest does not eat any of the entree it should not be ignored by the staff. read more

I've been coming to ogunquit since I was born, when Caffe Prego opened years ago, it became a must for our vacation. It's actually one of the things I most look forward too when coming. We make sure we at least go once for dinner, and we get take out pizza once, if not twice. (Maybe even three times if my husband lets me). Well this year I came up with my parents, and my husband has asked me three times this week that I need to come home with a slice of pizza from Prego or he's not letting me in the house.... that's how good their pizza is, now I'm Italian and live in NY, I know good pizza, and you will not be disappointed. I usually eat a slice, here I eat the whole pie, each and every time. Top it with good drinks, a nice atmosphere, good service and their AMAZING gelato, you can't go wrong! read more

Excellent food and friendly staff. We've never had anything bad to eat here. One of our kids is a picky eater and he is always happy when we go there. The covered, outdoor patio, is great in the summer. Sometimes the wai is a bit long but that's normal for all Ogunquit restaurants in the summer. read more

Eh...being from Providence my expectations for Italian food are pretty high, so altough nothing was repulsive it was just such a basic menu and food items I didn't feel inclined to want to go back. I imagine it gets a lot of business because it does have a nice outdoor patio area and its on the main drag in Ogunquit. The bathroom was FILTHY when I used it, and there's a gelato counter in there so I felt there was an identity crisis...was it a sit down or was it a casual cafe? I got the meatball sandwich and it was sliced meatball and the meat to everything else ratio was a little low on the meat end. We also had the Italian Wedding Soup - and again - my grandmother's will always be superior - but it was heavy on the salt with chopped up meatballs (not what I'm used to). You'll probably have a solid enough meal here to satisfy you, but I wouldn't specifically seek it out. read more

I can not speak to the food. The pastries and other desserts looked great! We stopped in for cold beverages after walking along the beach. We ordered two iced coffees but the counter help could not understand us so we finally ordered two Italian ice drinks. The flavors from the menu were not all available so we settled on one watermelon and one lemon beverage. We were served two watermelon drinks after numerous confirmations that I wanted one watermelon one lemon. The staff standing around did nothing to help close the language barrier which was very frustrating! The drinks were also awful!!! They had about 3x the syrup they should have had and were not consumable. We literally threw them away after gagging down two sips. To add injury to insult the price for was $12 for two medium non alcoholic drinks. I do not recommend this place for a quick beverage even though they advertise espresso, cappuccino and many other specialty drinks on the signage. It was over priced, not consumable and the staff didn't understand English at all.. those that did in spite of being nearby chatting just stood there witnessing my misery. read more

Our waiter also seemed annoyed that we didn't know exactly what we wanted right away or that we wanted something for our son before anything else. Also the Manager was making a production of seating people. To the point that it disturbed our meal. I recommend going to this place for gelato and coffee, but not for a meal. The coffee is amazing and the gelato is some of the best I've had. However, we went there for lunch and I ordered the "special salad" which was listed as a bed of baby spinach with gorgonzola, strawberries, sunflower seeds, and balsamic vinaigrette. When I got my order, the only thing that was right was the dressing, the salad was an arugula salad with sliced tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. I typically don't eat raw tomatoes, and had I known that was their special salad I wouldn't have ordered it. It was also a tiny salad. My boyfriend ordered a panini which was also very small. We were glad we were only getting something small to hold us over for a couple hours. For the price, it was definitely not worth it because if we had really been hungry we would have left still hungry. A few days later we stopped in for coffee and gelato and it was great! They still had the strawberry salad listed on the specials board. Another positive: their outdoor seating and garden! When it was raining they had outside heaters and a tent so you could still enjoy the garden. I saw a hummingbird and a butterfly while we ate. The indoor decor is also classy and tasteful. read more

I have eaten here now several times. The service at this restaurant is top-notch which is saying something in this tourist-laden town. During my last visit the service was almost over the top good. The waitstaff falls over themselves making certain that you have a pleasant experience. As I sat waiting for my food to arrive, one of the waiters, also serving as a host, greeted each and every guest with a hearty welcome, in Italian no less. He continued to describe the menu's specials making certain to recommend his grandmother's meatballs. I'm not certain whether or not if this is actually true; however, it was cute to hear him go on and on about them. This visit I ordered the salad of the day. These are always brilliant. This day's selection was mixed greens, walnuts, roasted yellow beets, and gorgonzola cheese. It was absolutely delicious. I followed this by a plain cheese pizza which was baked to perfection. Almost a little too crispy was the crust but it was clearly made with fresh dough and ingredients. The salad and pizza were plenty for two people and including drinks the cost was around $24.00. A bargain for good food and outstanding service. I will make it my goal to eat here each and every time I visit Ogunquit which is often during the summer. Clearly the owners at this restaurant have hired and trained a professional staff of champs. Perhaps they could share their expertise with the managers of Bessie's...a restaurant in Ogunquit that is a dreadful dining experience on the main strip. read more

On the pricier side for Ogunquit, dinner on a Saturday night in July was a 30 minute wait, not bad. Emily the server is fantastic, she was spot on and had great humor. First cocktail was their old fashion- very good but a little disappointed at the portion size for the price, it was a short with a lot of soda approaching $10. The sangria was a better value and delicious. Red was sweet and tart, white had a strong coconut flavor (which we liked). For dinner I ordered their take on the lobster roll, it sounded good based off the description, garlic aioli with chive and lemon. The chef completely dumped the sauce on, it was so powerful you could not taste any lobster, fair warning. read more

family went here on the last day of service for the 2022 season. the menu was very limited and even within the short list, many ingredients had to be substituted. with that said, the resulting dishes of chicken sandwiches, red pasta, and salads were less than impressive even after an hour wait with only 4 other guests. perhaps a reprinted last day menu could have helped reset expectations. kids had Gelato for dessert, about a dozen of flavors to choose from. will try to give it a chance again next year. read more

Well we had been looking forward to trying Caffe Prego and got there at 8:08 pm. The restaurant closes at 9 pm and the sigh on the door said "Open and underneath Aperto". We walked in and waited to be seated for about a full minute. Ok. She's busy. No problem. Well when the hostess/waitress approached us with not a trace of a smile, she informed us that they were closed. I said I thought they were opened until 9 pm. She said "we've been slow all day and decided to close at 8 pm." I said "I think you need to change your "Open/Aperto" sign on the door because it shows that you are still opened.
