The food is fantastic. It NEVER disappoints and their gelato is wonderful. DO NOT miss this place!

Let me start off with the staff. From the moment we were greeted, to the very attentive, (and friendly) waiter, they were all amazing and welcoming. We could not ask for more. Onto the pizzas...it is a mixed review. The toppings were excellent, plentiful, and tasty. The crust was not my favorite but my dinner companion liked it. I prefer more of a Neapolitan style crust and I believe it would complement the toppings. The crust was denser and flatter than I would hope. For drinks, another mixed review. My dinner companion had a sangria and liked it. Today, it was just an ice tea for me. It did not taste like fresh brewed tea (at least in the last few days). It was bitter. Being a cold and wet day, we ordered coffee after our lunch. It was served with milk on the side, versus cream. In fairness, the person who served it was not a wait staff member. Holding the tray she was shaking to the point that I actually grabbed it from her before she spilled it - so it could just have been her inexperience. I may give this place another shot - it was decent, just a few things that could improve as the season goes on! read more

Caffé Prego is an authentic Italian restaurant and caffé that opened in Ogunquit, Maine in June 2006. It was founded by restaurateurs and life partners Donato Tramuto and Jeff Porter. The partners have owned, operated and sold a number of restaurants in the Ogunquit area, including Five - O and the Inn on Shore Road. Caffé Prego, named after the couple's golden retriever who died in 2005, was their second restaurant to open. Initially they only served small plates such as panini, salads, desserts, gelato and coffee. When the partners saw a great demand for authentic Italian dishes, they decided to expand the menu to include pizza, traditional Italian entrees, wine, beer and craft cocktails. In 2021, Tramuto and Porter sold the restaurant to longtime employees and executive chefs Donovan Fraser and Zach Crosby. My extended family and I visited Caffé Prego this summer while we were on a week-long vacation in Maine. After spending the afternoon exploring Ogunquit, we set out to find a place for dinner. Unfortunately, we didn't have a reservation anywhere and a lot of the restaurants were packed. When we tried Caffé Prego, the staff told us that there would be a short wait but that they could accommodate us. For cocktails, I had an "Amarena Old Fashioned" (muddled Amarena cherry, orange bitters, bourbon, amaretto, soda) while my wife had a "Tuscan Sunset" (citrus vodka, blood orange liqueur, fresh lime, cranberry). For entrees, I had the "Tuscan Shrimp" (sautéed tiger shrimp, cherry tomatoes, limoncello butter sauce, basil parmesan, tagliatelle), my wife had the "Lobster Cannelloni" (Maine lobster, asparagus, ricotta, mozzarella, fresh pasta, marsala cream, shaved parmesan), our older son had the "Kids Tagliatelle with Meatballs & Marinara", and our younger son had the "Kids Tagliatelle with Butter". We all really enjoyed our food; our other family members enjoyed their dishes too! For dessert, my sons and I were in the mood for that really delicious-looking gelato that we saw in the display case. I had "Limoncello Sorbetto", my older son had "Cookies & Cream", and my younger son had "Chocolate". Between a beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff, and out-of-this-world food, my whole extended family had a memorable experience at Caffé Prego! Everything about our dinner here was amazing. We sat on the upper patio and had a lovely view of the beach peaking out from behind some buildings. Our server Catherine was super friendly and provided us great suggestions. We had a pizza with ricotta and pepperoni on it, as well as a nice fall salad. Both items were amazing, but the pizza really stood out. There is not a lot of good pizza in this area, in my opinion, so we were really happy to find this spot! read more

I really love eating at Caffe Prego when visiting Ogunquit. They have a nice covered porch that is heated or cooled as needed and have rotating (daily?) specials that are in-season and very delicious. A good mix of local seafood and Italian menu options and their prices are very fair- lower than average in the area. read more

I love love love Cafe Prego. It is a "go-to" for me. It is charming...you can sit outside near a beautiful fire, or on the front porch watching all the people go by, or inside the restaurant. The food and beverages are delicious and consistent. The prices are absolutely within the affordable range, comparatively speaking. The employees are welcoming and helpful if need be. I love it. Not too much and not too little. The only potential issue is the one that exists for every business in downtown Ogunquit, which is parking. If you have conquered that problem, it's a breeze, and it is very centrally located... Highly recommend. read more

Great Italian dining in OGT! Haddock piccata is exemplary and the meatball sandwich was fire. The chips are great, Italian seasoning nowhere else. My favorite part of the experience was gelato and sorbet afterwards. That along with Big Daddy's makes a diverse ice cream scene on shore road. Eat on the patio if you can, great atmosphere. The food is consistently above average and the service is friendly and attentive. We eat here at least once on every trip to Ogunquit, ME. It never disappoints. But be aware there are over a dozen stairs to walk up so it is not very wheelchair or walker friendly. You will need to enter through the kitchen at the rear of the building where you cannot park your car, only drop off and pick up. read more

We visited Caffe Prego on a Saturday night and chose to sit at the bar which was not too busy. Despite waiting at the bar for quite some time, we were not greeted or acknowledged by any staff members. We didn't receive menus or even water. The bartender with the ponytail continued to serve others while ignoring us. After being overlooked for too long, we decided not to support the business and got up to leave. We understand that employees may be busy, but a simple acknowledgment that someone will be with you shortly goes a long way. Stopped in after a long walk along the coast, a total must-see by the way! The cafe staff were friendly and quick to sit us down and serve us which was a huge plus. Some of the food we ordered, however, lacked a little bit of flavor. Really outstanding experience tonight, both food and service. We had both meatballs and olives as appetizers - both were exceptional. Meatballs were perhaps the best we've ever had (including those from NYC and North Jersey). My wife's lobster sandwich was delicious as were both my and my daughter's dinners. There was a primary waiter as well as others who brought the food, refilled water, etc... We asked several questions about the menu, and all of them pointed us in the right direction....just terrific (warm, welcoming, efficient) service by everyone we encountered. We stopped here for an early dinner and it was fantastic! My boyfriend and I like to try chicken parmesan from a lot of different places we travel to and this one was like no other! The chicken was lightly breaded with the perfect amount of cheese but the sauce was the true star of the show; extremely flavorful and not too heavy. Centered right in the heart of Ogunquit, this very orange restaurant served good food with fair prices. When we went it was sunny so the orange sun roof on top of the orange menu made it hard to see. The crust on the pizza was good if you like a very thin crust. The basil MADE the pizza for sure! Great sauce to cheese ratio and it filled me right up. I was VERY impressed with service dining during the pandemic. I went with a group of 6 on a Saturday at 7:30pm - made reservations online using Resy (super convenient & easy). Once the host greeted us, I knew we were in good hands - so sincere. He explained the rules and how service was going to play out. Staff all wore masks and followed protocol. They were all super friendly and attentive too. They wiped down the table really well before we sat down and gave us single-use menus. I felt comfortable and safe. To start, we ordered 2 types of arancini balls to share - salsa verde & cauliflower. They were so tasty. I could've eaten 10 of those! For my main dish, I got the lobster cannelloni - maine lobster, sweet pea, three italian cheeses wrapped in fresh pasta topped with marsala cream and crispy fried shallots. Delicious! Everyone loved their dishes. You could tell this restaurant uses fresh ingredients. The rest of the group ordered chicken parmesan, lasagna, and gnocchi. Aperol spritz for the table hit the spot too. If you're in Ogunquit, definitely check this place out. Stop in for a drink, lunch, or dinner. You won't be disappointed - great view of the town. read more

My relatives and I had dessert only as we didn't want to eat much. I had an affagato, another had a homemade blueberry gelato scoop and a homemade pistachio gelato scoop, and a third had carrot cake. The pistachio came out better but the blueberry wasn't bad according to the one relative. For the other one, the cake itself was okay and everything else with it, especially the candied walnuts were particularly sweet in that proper burnt marshmallow sort of way. My affagato was on point and the unexpected coffee bean pieces accentuated what is otherwise a standard European option. read more

I hate writing bad reviews. Prime example of the oldest truth : amazing location in a tourist town often means terrible food - sad face. Have it 2 tries, both ZERO FLAVOR. yes, ZERO. How food can be so bland, when the aromas are of tantalizing garlic, I cannot imagine. If they either fired chef, hired new chef, or ponied up some $ for restaurant level seasonings , then I'd consider returning. But how to know if that change will ever be made since their super location almost 'prevents' improving food flavor quality. 2nd sad face. That all said, very good service!! read more

I loved this place so much I popped in for dinner twice in a weekend! Sat at the bar both times, no challenges finding a spot. Everyone was very polite and manager was really generous with telling me about menu items, I thought they were great as service goes.
