I stopped by Caffe Umbria at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning and the cafe was completely empty. They have a pretty extensive drinks menu here, but I ultimately picked up their limoncello cold brew coffee. Offered in one size only for $6.75, it's not a cheap drink. Since cold brew doesn't require an espresso shot, is prepared in advance and just stored in a chilled pitcher, it only took 30 seconds before I received my drink. The taste of the limoncello cold brew coffee definitely caught me off-guard. I was expecting something sweet and fizzy, but instead, I got something very coffee-forward with a hint of limoncello. Not a bad thing at all, since I generally prefer drinks that contain little to not sweetness. This cold brew would definitely be the ideal refreshing drink on a hot summer day in Portland. Service was fast and friendly. Food is available in the pastry case as well. I wouldn't mind stopping by again to try out another one of their seasonal drinks. read more

I watched part of the World Cup series here as there was a tv located inside the cafe. Lots of seating available. I ordered an oatmilk latte. I swear the lattes used to come with a piece of chocolate but not anymore perhaps. Absolutely did not expect the gift card not to cover a microwave BEC sandwich but sure enough it did not. $11 for a premade microwaved bacon egg and cheese sandwich is insulting. None of the food was labeled as to what it is either so I had to make the employee rattle off half the display case to even figure out what it was. Even one of the employees who was new didn't know what half the items were and had to ask someone for help. At least the service was friendly and employees were nice. You can get a fresh made similar sandwich for cheaper at any local place so I'll be sticking to those spots in the future and not giving my money to these ripoff artists. The service was efficient, even with how busy they were.There are a handful of tables inside, and it definitely seemed like a popular spot for people studying and working. No wifi but they open late everyday (6pm). They even serve affogato! But all I had was: COLD BREW - $5.25 Served in a tall glass and comes with a cute little chocolate piece! I'm no coffee person, I just needed to buy something since I was hanging out here. Great place in the Pearl. Nice windows to watch the rain. Each coffee comes with a piece of chocolate. Nice treats in the case and some lunch items. Today a jewelry stand someone was selling their wares. I had an americano. Nice a bit nutty flavor, crisp and clean. I was given a number and they bring your order to your table. Nice touch. Nice attention to detail, presentation of your order. Good mix of clients working on their laptops or meeting with friends. A couple of doors so you will see people come from different sides which adds to the flow and decor. I brought my laptop...creating the review here this evening. Absolutely fantastic. Came in from out of town and wanted a true Portland coffeehouse experience. Unfortunately, the ones we found, and walked into were nothing special at all. We walked up and down Pearl district, Alphabet District, and a few other areas just to find a yummy café. One of them was completely dirty, I was not going to have my coffee there at all. Another one, the steamer was broken and they were only serving iced drinks, the third one noted pastries and food on Yelp, yet there was only two items in the case, (and we came in the morning). All that to say, we were getting some coffee Hangry on and looked again at Yelp and found this gem. My Cardamom Rose mocha was full of flavor, delicious and hot, served right away, even though they were very busy. We ordered some goodies as well and they were delicious. Everyone in there was kind and went out of their way to show support to their patrons. Who I imagine was the owner, went up to every table and everyone in line to greet them and smile at them. This is what an elevated Portland café should be about! Not about how grungy it is and all the different flavors of mushrooms that they serve with a bad attitude. Trust me, you can find that on every corner! When we are back in town, we will definitely go out of our way to visit this amazing spot! read more

I come here once in a while spending two to three hours working, depending on who the barista is, sometimes you can bump into someone who's rude and unfriendly. Sometimes, there are nice and friendly baristas. But the coffee and pastries here just mid. Offering consistently great coffee, espresso (this should be your reason for coming in), and a few ideal alcoholic drinks, you're bound to enjoy the experience here. Though I often spend time here during the morning or before evening festivities with a quick cortado, I had not previously come here for more than 20-30 minutes. Recently, the fantastic team informed me that between 11 am and close, Umbria offers one of the best deals for espresso martinis in the Pearl. They were right - espresso martini can be yours for $10-$12! A friend and I enjoyed these stunning drinks for a reasonable amount of time paired with their minimal charcuterie board, and anyone can enjoy a pre-party here. I'd recommend bringing a good book for a cozy afternoon on the patio and coming here anytime in the evening for a decent pick-me-up. I look forward to seeing what more Umbria does after their renovations. The new Friday music nights have been an ideal addition to the area. read more

The best coffee in Portland, hands down! The intoxicating scent hits you the moment you enter the coffee shop and immediately warms all of my senses. All of their drinks are stellar; the cappuccino has the perfect amount of foam; the mocha is well balanced with hints of chocolate that don't overwhelm; and my regular, the Americano is rich and smooth. If I lived in this neighborhood, I'd be here all of the time! While you can't sit inside during these Covid days, there are several sets of tables and chairs outside to park yourself while you enjoy your tasty beverage over conversation and great people watching. We stopped in the other day opting for coffee and a pastry rather than a proper lunch. Sounds reasonable, right? My Americano and pecan bun were the perfect combo! I went to Caffe Umbria to kill some time, and only chose it based off the proximity to another store. I'd rate this place a 3.5, rather than 4 stars. I think our order came out pretty quickly. We got an iced tea, matcha latte, and an almond croissant. The iced tea was mostly a cup of ice. I think it would have been fine on a hot day since the ice would melt, but on a rainy day, not so much. This may also be a Portland thing, but it seems like most if not all matcha lattes here are pre-sweetened. I think pre-sweetened matcha is an abomination, but I'm not letting that affect my rating because it seems like the norm here. It wasn't bad, but my first sip was one of those moments where you expect to have something not sweet, and your taste buds get hit with sweetness. I would have asked to see if they had an unsweetened version, but didn't think to ask. The almond croissant was the stand out here, and I really enjoyed it. There was nothing really wrong about the place, and I'd be willing to go back, I'd just choose different drinks. read more
