The coffee drinks are good but not memorable. I ordered an iced cinnamon honey latte while my partner ordered another latte. Given their menu, I suspect I just didn't get a more popular drink where the flavors would have wow'd me. I'd give this spot another try. With the coffee drinks we got, I still feel like more flavor was missing in them - not sure if it's the espresso blend they use or their syrups. read more

What a lovely coffee shop in N Portland! There is very limited seating (-1 star), but great drinks and great staff! I got their jam matcha and it was delicious! The matcha was strong, great quality, and the jam paired nicely without being too sweet. The interior is very Portland-esque - vintage/modern vibes, which I love. Wish the shop was a tad bigger to accommodate more seating, but we took our drinks and walked around Mississippi! read more

Visited to work at the coffee shop for a bit. The interior was really cute, lots of sunlight. The barista was really kind as well. They only had one barista working that day so it took a bit longer for the drink to come out, but it was a delicious drink. Super cute cafe! Located on Mississippi, parking can be a bit difficult to find--I ended up just parking in the neighborhood nearby. The inside of the coffeeshop is cute, and clean but a bit small so it's not good for multiple groups. As it was my friends and I's first time here, the barista was so kind and friendly in giving us recommendations. I ended up trying their peanut brittle latte, which was so unique in that they used actual peanuts in it and the scent was very present. Service was super quick. Overall, a great spot to grab a drink and a small chat with friends. But, due to the limited space it's more of a grab-and-go spot. read more

Not gonna lie, I was a little scared coming to Portland because I didn't know if I was gonna be able to find a decent matcha latte here or not but Bastion definitely hit the mark! The Jam Matcha was very unique and they use a good quality of matcha which was smooth and tasty. I just took mine to go but still felt pretty open. Before checking out Bastion I read some reviews on Yelp and many recommended their peanut brittle latte. Bastion is hands down the best coffee shop around Mississippi. The coffee quality is incredible, whether you order a simple espresso, or a signature latte. Each drink has a strong bold taste of coffee, but is also incredibly balanced and never too sweet. We paired our coffee drinks with the Ocean Roll, which although it was brought in from another bakery, tastes fresh and delicious. The cafe is adorable but definitely small, so if you're coming with a large group you can take advantage of their quick service, and take your drinks to go and explore a bit of Mississippi. Definitely a staple when we are staying in Northeast Portland. read more

Friendly staff and knowledgeable baristas. Smaller footprint with four desks and bar seating. This intimate setting encourages you to slow down and enjoy the taste of the sweet coffee. I tried a decaf oat milk latte and was surprised by the brightness of the decaf at no additional cost for a substitute milk. Overall, a pleasant experience to start a lazy morning. I say lazy because they open at 8 a.m. I would rate it higher if there were more seating options but seeing how empty it was made up for the lack of seating. Stay tuned for many more coffee reviews! Stopped here on a cold Saturday morning based on recommendation of friends and I'm so glad we did. This is a little cozy, chill cafe with a good selection of sweets and great selection of yummy beverages. Along with our Cafe Latte and Jam Matcha, we tried the Ricotta Honey Bolo and the Cinnamon Roll Croissant. Customer service is excellent and our beverages and snacks tasted delicious. I'd heard my friend talk about how annoyed she felt every time she got upcharged for a milk alternative at a coffee shop -- and by happenstance, during her visit to Oregon, stumbled into Bastion Coffee. She definitely lit up because tada! Oat milk was standard in all drinks and they don't charge extra for alt milk options! Seriously the haven that she had been searching for all these years. I get her point though -- she didn't choose to be lactose intolerant and the upcharge made her sad each and every time. Cheers to Bastion for helping her feel validated. I got the hojicha latte with a shot of espresso while my friend with a classic oat milk latte. Both drinks were good but bewarned that the hojicha + espresso can be pretty bitter. They did offer to add some sweetener for me but I decided against it and still enjoyed my drink. The space is petite but there were a couple of people doing work inside so possible if you don't mind a tight space and a rotating door of people popping in. Bastion is a cute small coffee shop! They have the basics of coffee but also a unique variety of specialty lattes that sound delicious! I was visiting Portland for the week and stopped here to try something unique. The barista recommended the cinnamon honey latte and it was great! A little different but not too much. There was four tables inside facing a bench seating area. Also a couple seats in front of the bar area. My friend brought her laptop and there was two plugs on both ends of the tables by the walls only. The seating indoors is competitive if you need to be by an outlet. The playlist was great! I was surprised they had a restroom too since the place is small but it was very simple and cute. Service was quick and watched people get their drinks swiftly. We visited Portland from Out of state and honestly I have to say this was some of the best coffee I had on my trip! Very smooth and they substitute milk! I was tempted to try the Jam Latte just for the name and it was very smooth. You can ask for it to be sweetened more if you like but I thought it was perfect. This is for sure the best latte I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and order the peanut brittle latte, it is just amazing! Service was good, baristas are friendly. The only thing is a really small shop, they have only for tables and people go there to work, so two tables were taken with no chance of being free up soon. We wait like 15 min until a couple left and we could seat inside. Paid $3.25 for drip coffee plus a tip.. she filled my thermos half way and then ran out and said ,"oh that's 12oz".. was prolly barely 8oz.. never made another pot of drop while I was there from 11am-12pm.. I ordered the jam latte with oat milk and pistachio croissant from Sparrow bakery. The latte was sweeter because of the added jam. It was interesting to try once. Not a coffee drinker, but Bastion doesn't discriminate! Their chai tea lattes are spicy, warm, and delicious! Had a vanilla chai latte and a maple chai latte and both were SO good! The people seated around me enjoyed jam lattes and ricotta/tomato/basil toast. I tried the honey lemon ricotta toast and it was the perfect blend of warm and bright flavors to pair with the spicy chai! Service was great, drinks were great, food was great. Cool little coffee shop, but was not a fan of the roast. The coffee is relatively cheap here compared to similar spots. They charge by the type of milk or creamer you desire. I ended up going with the cold brew with milk. I guess the problem here with not having milk available for you to pour is you can't adjust the ratio. As for the coffee, it had low acidity which was a plus, but the roast just didn't taste all that great. read more
