New years day, I walk in for a cappuccino and the Barista (his name is ET) who looks like he's been on a bender since the 1980's is extremely rude. Clearly the days of listening to Rage Against the Machine and Metallica have created a lot of PTSD for this barista that causes him to unleash his inner anger out on customers. Someone give this guy a Valium and tell him to take it easy on the illicit drugs. The coffee isn't worth putting up with the rude staff. Not sure why I bothered to come back here, I guess believed in second chances. read more

good hot coffee stays winning. stopped by Caffe Vita to grab an afternoon coffee to go. it's a small coffee shop--very clean and neat cozy interior. i don't think there are any inside seats bc space is limited but there are two standing ledges out for an al fresco java. the Americano i ordered was brewed hot, had that smoothed-out Expresso flavor, and gave me the caffeine kick i needed for the late afternoon push. service was friendly and chill. if you need some coffee on the Lower East Side, Caffe Vita has you covered. read more

Caffe Vita is a small cozy grab and go coffee spot located in LES with amazing coffee and good customer service. Although they do not have seating, they do offer a variety of teas and coffees. The coffee is strong, smooth, and so tasty that it's definitely one of my go-to spots when I am in the area. I really enjoyed their drip coffee. The only down side is that their cups always leak :(. The staff informed me that it was because their lids are not very secure but I hope they fix this issue soon! read more

It's so loud in here. I came here years ago on a nice warm day when they would open the casement ?? style windows and had sitting right in front. They were wide open. I had a great experience then, but I don't really recall this grungy feel. I'm not sure if it's under new ownership since this was 2016 maybe 2015. It's 8AM and rock music is blaring and I just need coffee. I had a hazelnut latte and it was pretty standard. I went to the back to sit down since they changed the set up and there's no seats in the front anymore. The stools are so short that they don't even prop you up enough to allow your elbows to touch the counter. I think the stools are just there for aesthetics. If I was in the area and needed coffee, I would for sure come here again because I didn't hate the coffee. I just wouldn't come here to kill time like I was doing today. Honestly, the vibe is kind of unwelcoming. I don't know if that was intentional or not but it feels like it. I've been going to Caffe Vita for years but recently revisited again after I decided to kick the morning coffee habit. The coffee is still just as good as it always is - arguably the best coffee in the neighborhood? They used to have the roaster churning away in the back but I didn't see it on my last visit. It's not your typical coffee place where you can sit and read a book. It's more like a get your coffee, stop at the condiment bar, and if you have a minute, perch on one of the bar tables outside on the sidewalk. The inside and decor of the cafe is intentionally dark, and has a punk rock vibe to it. The folks working here have a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. I took away one star because they were sort of snarky and sarcastic about the tip he was left on a one drink order. A bit of a bummer and unnecessary but the drip coffee, cold brew, and the espresso drinks are all really top notch. read more

I was waiting for my food at 375° next door, and while waiting decided to check this place out on Yelp. The reviews were very good so I changed my Coke for a water, and stopped in right after devouring my chicken sandwich. Decided to go simple and order an espresso macchiato (espresso shot with a little bit of foam - this ain't Starbies! Coffee was excellent in terms of taste profile! I generally prefer my coffee more on the bitter side, but still prefer balance in all things. Like a good glass of whiskey, the coffee had a rich flavor profile with that bitterness I like, but also a just-right amount of acidity. It really helped balance out the flavor, and wasn't as if the beans had been left on the roaster and forgotten about for a fortnight. Looking at some of the photos now, I wish I had returned to try some of their other offerings! I likely will next time I am in NYC. The service was fast and nice! read more

I grabbed my usual go-to, a hot latte, which had an amazing balance between the milk to espresso ratio. I wasn't paying attention when I ordered so I didn't realize they had three different sizes. I ended up being a little taken back at the size of the small but it was enough for what I need plus bonus points for making a smaller latte the correct proportion still! This cafe has a super alt-rock aesthetic. The interior is dark and the walls are black, and all around it feels almost more like a bar than a coffee shop. But the coffee it serves is nonetheless delicious. I got the cardamom rose latte, and sometimes places will do the floral flavor a bit too much and the whole thing tastes sickly; but the cardamom rose syrup in this latte was just right: enough for it to taste just a bit like I'm in a garden but not enough for me to want to run home with pollen in my eyes. My go to espresso stop on this brief trip. Why? The crema on the espresso and the final product are simply first rate. One of the better espressos I've had in awhile. I'd say their machine is totally dialed in correctly and the barista totally knows what they're doing. Something not all places in the hood can claim. The black house coffee following the espresso is also first-rate. Better yet, people coming in the door are greeted by their first names which tells me they also get service above and beyond the norm. Worth seeking out if you're in the area and need the jolt. As others have mentioned, the cafe is teeny tiny. There is quite a bit of standing room (if you aren't claustrophobic and don't mind standing next to the roaster), but the only seating inside is at the window and consists of two stools. There drink menu is no-nonsense, but it does cover all of the basic espresso drinks. I ordered a medium Americano, which set me back a little less than $4. Awe! Caffe Vita a little taste of home. I went to Caffe Vita this morning since, even though I love NY, there's always a little piece if my heart that will always belong to Seattle. Caffe Vita is definitely one of the best coffee spots. They roast their own beans. And their LES location is no different. I walk in and this rocker, all black clothes with patches was roasting up a batch of coffee beans. The aromas of the beans being roasted was making me salivate. It was early in the morning. I ordered an americano and found a little spot by the window to work on my little ipad with the attached keyboard. They let me know how to set up the wifi and I had a beautiful writing moment before I had to head to work. I would love if there was more space to sit at a larger table but it being LES and knowing how much rent is, I see this is the NY version of a Seattle favorite. I heart Seattle! And I love wearing my Caffe Vita baseball tee!! And I use my pour over funnel all the time. Keep up the good work! read more

I really want to leave a positive review, because I like the coffee here. This review is strictly for the service today. There were two guys working there today. I didn't find any of them to be particularly polite or warm. After I ordered my coffee they proceeded to get into an argument with each other. It is not professional to do this. I thought the person making the espresso was polite at first, we were chatting, and they recommended other interesting coffee places in the city, but when I asked where they were from, they seem to get really defensive, and said "I'm from my mother" They could've just politely answered with something positive. I would rather go to other coffee places with better customer service. The Seattle locations are filled with more polite people. Also, a couple days ago, there was a very nice young gentleman working here, from Tennessee. He is a very polite person. I wish the other staff members could learn from him. read more

The only thing I had here was the coffee, so that is what I'll be reviewing. As soon as you walk in you're faced with a very busy and warm front of house. This place oozes coffee shop appeal. The baristas were very welcoming and extremely quick. I can see why my AirBnb host recommended them! The coffee had some good robust flavor, maybe a little too dark for my liking, but my father would definitely enjoy a cup. Be warned, the location is a tad on the small side, so large groups may find it difficult to come in and all sit down to talk over a cup of joe. Look no further than Caffe Vita - I stepped into this small establishment on a serendipitous search of coffee after placing my name at russ and daughters, and was happily surprised. The music was banging, and everyone who stopped in game by to chat with the employees at the counter. I got a Sevilla mocha, which had orange peel in it (Seville is known for its orange tree-lined streets) and was absolutely smooth and delicious - chocolate-y and dark, and the perfect amount of citrus that came through. I also got a cappuccino for my boyfriend which he also liked. A cup will probably set you back anywhere from $4-6, but given that this is New York, I was happy to fork it up for a good cup of coffee and excellent people watching. read more
