Craving fried chicken and al fresco dining for dinner in Puerto Vallarta, Yelp pulled up Café Bohemio. Intrigued by the reviews, it was just two blocks from my hotel in Zona Romantica, so I went over not expecting much. Bohemio is totally covered outdoor dining on mixed patio furniture. The crowd of young, old, gay and straight had a festive air and everyone seemed to be having a good time. It could've been due to the daily cocktail special: Tuesday is Martini Night for 60 pesos, about US $3 a martini! Without a doubt every table including mine was drinking vodka or gin martinis! The friendly wait staff hustled to keep up with the orders while one of the owners serenaded the crowd with his singing. Clearly there were regular customers that have been coming here for years. My waiter recommended the BBQ Cherry Cola Rum 1/4 Chicken and Ribs Combo Plate over the Fried Chicken Bohemio, and it was super tasty. It also came with fries, salad and a soup of the day. The obviously homemade French Onion soup was delicious and not over salted like a lot of places. I enjoyed my dinner so much I dined again the next night, especially since Thursday was 60 pesos for Pink Cosmopolitan! Again the waiter recommended their NY style Meatloaf Bohemio over the Fried Chicken. Although there was too much tomato sauce, it was good comfort food like mom used to make. I finished the entire plate. The chicken and mushroom soup was outstanding. I think their soups of the day are my favorite here. No wonder they are advertise "Try our Famous Soups." Worthy of the self-accolade! Come by this very casual and laidback restaurant. I know I'll be back in my next trip. Prices are inexpensive especially when getting a full dinner. I got away with about 250-350 MX each night...including a cocktail. It was a nice break especially after spending over 2000 MX for several extravagant dinners in town. Cash only. Decided to try this restaurant because not too many in the area have enchiladas on their menus. Ordered the chicken enchiladas which came with rice and beans and a side of potato soup. And although I had ordered chips and guacamole, chips and also were also included (complimentary?). The potato soup was awesome. Had cilantro and the base wasn't thick with a potato consistency. It was more so a light chicken broth base. Deliciosa. The chicken enchiladas were mid. I had craved chicken enchiladas for quite some time so these did the job, not disappointed but they were average. I was the rice and beans. The chips and guacamole didn't stand out. Would I visit here again? It isn't first on my list but I do recommend others to check this place out and give it a try. Almost forgot... the service? The server was very nice but not the most attentive. I was sitting a good 15 mins after they had taken the plates and utensils from my table. Aside from the service, which was nice, the food was awful and by far, the worst we had in Puerto Vallarta. Others took us there, but the enchiladas tasted like boiled chicken smothered in a watery ragu. My husband's fish was thin and he said tasted like a flip flop (sandal). Skip, skip, skip. read more

A group of us thought we'd give this place a try. Nice outdoor seating + interesting drink specials via website. The waiter was outright, way-overly nice with us (which was, in and of itself, NOT a problem) until the inappropriate touching (pretending there was something in my beard, multiple times) + swearing ("I'm just FUCKING with you", after the touching) began. Granted, this place is ground-zero, homo-hood and it was ~2wks after the pride parade, but as a societal group (in MEX and US) that are striving just to be treated as equals, this small alienation of 4 open-minded, worldly travelers, 40-50yr olds from the US, was a step backwards. The free (watered down + tasteless) red + green salsas with chips were appropriately priced. I had the chile relleno plate, which was quite average. Rice and beans were the same. My first trip to Puerto Vallarta over 15 years ago I ate at this place 3 times in one week! Turns out it was the same year Sol and Chris opened the restaurant! Still a loyal customer after all these years! This fun and quirky bar has a bit of everything to appeal to the masses. We first "discovered" this fine little restaurant, and its friendly and welcoming hosts/owners (Sol and Chris) and staff, during an evening "where to dine walkabout" from our nearby hotel a good number of years ago. That was the first of so many visits. We have dropped in to see 'everybody', dine, and generally just soak in "what's happening" in this small, casual, friendly, courtyard restaurant several times during each stay since then. I suspect we have tried most of the entrees from the menu over the years: (Sol's famous) meatloaf, cornish game hen - with orange and/or other glazes, new york steak, meatballs & spaghetti, bbq ribs, grilled chicken & bbq ribs, coconut shrimp, enchiladas, and a good number of the daily 'specials' (like shrimp fajitas, shrimp with a fish fillet, steak, and so many more). All meals include nacho chips & salsa with the pre-dinner drinks (even if just water!), a cup of Sol's great 'soup-du-jour', and basket of bread. Cafe Bohemio offers up decently-prepared, inexpensively-priced International fares, in a casual, very friendly, much-fun, and cosy little courtyard environment. It's always been a winner in our books!! And especially so when Sol's there!! But we have missed 'Lolita's' visits for the past few years!! The nearby doctor's dog was a welcomed guest to our table for a good number of visits. read more

Cafe Bohemio is one of the most underrated restaurants in old town. It's always delicious and the prices are reasonable snd I have been going there for years. The staff is friendly and the menu is very creative. The homemade soup comes with every meal and is always excellent. Try the fillete Veracruz or the ribs snd chicken. Have a martini snd a few laughs. This represents the casual ambiance that us old-timers enjoy about Puerto Vallarta. read more

This is our third time here and have not been disappointed ever! I had the chili which was vegan and Solomon asked me ,your not vegan are you don't you like meat, I said yes you remembered from last year what a memory so he made mine with meat what a guy! Then I had the salad which was huge! Chris sat and we chatted what an interesting man!! We then had some songs sang by Solomon that sounded wonderful and they should because he is a cabaret singer!! Met some friends here for dinner last night and did not enjoy the food at all. The staff were nice but the greasy cordon bleu and cold mashed potatoes were left on my plate 2 bites less than the way the server brought it to me . The New York cheese cake the owner from Brooklyn made himself was a coffee flavored custard that was not finished either.Very far from New York cheese cake (ugh) Beware of the 2 for 1 happy hour as it does not apply to wine by the glass. Gimmicky and dirty. Filthy linens. My husband stomach was upset all night from the special fish of the day. Stay away. Sorry but our group left a lot of food uneaten on the plate and was not asked "was there something wrong with the food"? So take my money and i will take my business elsewhere read more

Unassuming open air place. Suggest to read reviews to establish what dishes people like. We had the Paia and that was very good. Also had Carne Asada, I would not reorder it. Not that MX is known for great beef unless at a specialty or mainly very high end establishment. If John Taffer from Bar Rescue came by, he would suggest to cut the menu down by at least half to what this establishment does really well and not try to be too much for too many. I asked the woman waitress/manager what was really good and she failed to guide us. That is very strange as I can't think of a restaurant that won't offer recommendations when asked. read more

Very good location & comfortable patio dining. The menu is extensive. The owner (Sol) was obviously drunk the night I ate here. Stood at my table with his cocktail in hand rambling about his personal achievements & alternative career as a showman. Very intrusive. The service was good yet the food only marginal. I ordered the mushroom soup as a starter. Was terrible broth with carrots & onions. A few tiny pieces of mushrooms were found on close inspection. Bland & un appealing. I ordered the evening fish special. It was presented nicely but only average in flavor. I think this place has a loyal following of customers. I have been told the cordon blu is a good meal. I would give this place a 2nd try but would hope the owner ( if present) would be sober or not hanging out at my table so much. read more

Had New Years Eve dinner here with 6 friends. All good. I had the Chile Rellenos. But, I think I am going to try the chicken Cordon Blue , it looks really good too. My partner & I had a total of 4 Strawberry Marg's, a salad, and an entrée and the bill was 400 pesos. That's pretty cheap. We had a large group for my first trip here and I was thoroughly unimpressed on all levels, except perhaps for our server Alex who was funny and charming but yet seemingly unaware how disappointed I was with my meal. I ordered the rib and chicken combo and was immediately concerned with the portion size. Two ribs and a dry chicken leg/thigh (how can you manage to dry this piece of the chicken out I have no idea!) was hardly worth the price they charged and certainly was the least value, quality meal I had during my entire time in PV this year. The soup in crappy plastic bowls though tasty again turned me off. Too bad as they have obviously a decent following so might have just be a (really) off night. Very popular restaurant that has reasonable prices for average food. We had th Chicken Enchiladas and the Fried Chicken. The Enchiladas were good but there are many restaurants that do then just as good or better. The Chicken was more Shake N'Bake than fried and was dry. Notwithstanding, completely unorganized service and extremely loud music does not add up to my idea of a good dining experience, so can't recommend it nor would I go back. read more

Recommended to us by friends. The shrimp combo was awful. The shrimp were tough and the bacon barely cooked. The vegetables were boiled to death. My friend had the mahi mahi. The filet was so thin you could probably read a paper through it. The only thing that was palatable was the rice. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Soups are solid, but the food is American-style Mexican. Nothing to write home about. I live right up the road, so me and my Significant Other (SO) ·. went there for dinner, and the waiter was great, the food was very good. They will turn the air conditioning on if you ask.I had the avocado appetizer stuffed with shrimp salad . Very delicious. Then for my entree I ordered the Salmon. It was delicious. The waiter was so nice and extremely attentive. We gave him a nice tip. The food was so good that we even ordered a dessert, which I RARELY do ! I enjoyed my meal at Cafe Bohemio !! read more
