As soon as you walk into Porfirio's there's a whole vibe going on. Large airy space with greenery all around, tv screens playing music videos and mariachi bands playing and singing live music. The food is not just about the taste... there's a whole presentation situation that makes it extra fun. So the food... it's pretty good. Not the best in pv but that's hard because the food in pv is top notch. Highly recommend the grilled shrimp skewers grilled table side. Steak was a little overdone for medium rare but surprisingly still juicy. Good pair with the delicious bone marrow. Shareable Braised beef was also good -- very flavorful and, for good or for bad, greasy! We did the ice cream sampler for dessert. The ice cream was just ok but it was a fun experience. Comes out in a little ice cream truck with cones and fixings on the side so you can make your own cone. Service is extra. But in a good way. Lots of staff around with great customer service. A little slow to get food and drinks. It's also loud, which I thought was fun but you just have to be in the right mood. We went on my birthday, so I was ready for it. Absolutely perfect! I visited the location in Cancun and when I saw there was one in Puerto Vallarta, I had to go. The staff is attentive and meticulous. They take pride in presentation and stellar customer service. Food is amazing! Great portions, wonderful flavors. The short rib was tender, extremely juicy and memorable. I was worried about going to a chain initially, as I almost never have exceptional food at chains but this was a departure from the norm! (I understand there are only a few across Mexico, but still technically a chain..) As soon as I walked in, the sumptuous decor really made for a great ambiance, and our server was awesome! He was prompt, polite, and worked hard to make sure that we got what we wanted, despite our conversations being held in a mixture of broken English and broken Spanish. The food was delicious also. We sampled the octopus (awesome) and the cauliflower too, which had a delectable sauce on it. Drinks were good, and some of them were even made table side for us to watch. I was worried about the quality of the cocktails, and had not yet had a decent cocktail in Mexico but thankfully this restaurant came through clutch. I will definitely dine here again the next time I find myself in Puerto Vallarta! read more

Beautiful atmosphere with fun gimmicks, but my god the food here is terrible. I'll start off with the good -- the decor is beautiful and they have fun additions like sparklers with celebratory desserts. The service here is also great, but the food is awful. I ordered the lobster tacos and they looked good enough, but were disgusting. One bite and I was done. I almost spit it out because of how awful it was. I couldn't tell if it was the cream or cheese, but something about it tasted rancid, and it smelled really bad. I could taste the gross smell of it and could not eat more than one bite. My cousin tried it after I told her I didn't like it, and she, too, thought it was horrible. My other cousin said that it reeked and she could smell it from across the table. As for my mom, she ordered some type of beef and about half of it was inedible because it was just fat. She was unhappy with her dish, too. I'd say this may be a safe place for dessert and the ambience, but do not have high expectations for the food. read more

Wow. Just... wow. This restaurant is an experience. Several friends have raved about Porfirio's so I've been dying to try it. My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint! This restaurant is in the Peninsula mall, which has seen better days, but it does have a free parking structure below the mall so that's a bonus. From the moment you walk in, you are inundated with pleasant service people ready to make your meal enjoyable. They were informed it was my birthday at the time of reservation and made me feel special from check in to the moment we left. The menu is now all on a QR code, and it's large, so it takes a bit to get through, but our server was quite helpful with suggestions on popular items. We both tried their mocktails which were superb and started with the salmon ceviche and ordered the enmoladas as a starter (it's a main entrée, but they brought it to us without all the extra stuff). For our mains, we ordered the al pastor for 2 and the suckling pig. Everything is a production here, so they bring food out on these bench trays and either set items ablaze or make a little show out of it. Quite fun! For dessert we ordered the churro cart, but since it was my birthday celebration, they also brought out a cake while singing happy birthday and handing me sparklers. The general manager noticed my sugar skull tattoo and brought me a special sugar skull dessert with a decorative shot filled with dry ice. It really was spectacular. We spent about 3 hours enjoying our meal and the ambiance. Absolutely divine restaurant, food and service. read more

This place is at the entrance to a big shopping center and it's hands down comfortable. Comfy booths, air conditioning is a plus in the pacific coast heat. Mariachis playing in the background, perfect accompaniment to my Chile relleno. The Chile was perfect. I told them about my gluten drama and they were very accommodating. For drinks I had a Paloma. I really liked their version. It's what Texans call ranch water which by the way reminds me of horses drinking from the trough. It's a tall glass with ice, tequila, sparkling water, and an assortment of muddled citrus. It really hit the spot it's refreshing and no sugar. We were greeted by an assortment of salsas, dips and tostadas. Perfect I can munch. One of them was calabaza and the other was a beanie style delicious dip. For starter we had the bone marrow. Wow! This was amazingly buttery fatty collagen good. It was served with homemade tostadas and all these amazing creamy salsas. When ever I see a Chile relleno I must inquire and if it's gluten-free I order it. It's a complex dish originally made to commemorate the signing of the treaty of Cordova. Which granted Mexico independence from Spain. We'll this place nailed it!! All in all this place is a must when visiting Vallarta. read more

Our table was surprised by everything being lukewarm--soup almost room temperature and enchiladas without melted cheese and just barely warm inside. Not sure if we came on an off night or that is how they like it. Putting that aside, the flavors were OK. Black beans and rice are optional sides. Delicious Mexican food and enjoyable evening at Porfirio's! Every single staff member we encountered greeted us warmly, from the hostess to the attendant who seated us, to our waiter, to the maitre'd, to the table-busers. We were served a rack of crispy homemade tostadas along with bowls of several delicious dips and flavorful salsas, much more interesting and tasty than the tired basket of chips with salsa. We selected a traditional lime margarita and a paloma for our pre-dinner cocktails, and both were delicious. I chose the Cheese Stuffed Poblano Chili which was a flavorful chili relleno stuffed with gouda and other cheeses in a zesty red sauce, along with traditional Mexican rice and savory black beans. It was soooooo good! Hubby had Chicken Milanese, which was a very unconventional presentation with roasted chicken served in a bowl with cheese, roasted peppers and a corn sauce. It was served with fresh, hot tortillas and hubby also ordered a side of mashed potatoes. A chef came out from the kitchen to say that the mashed potatoes were on the spicy side and wanted to make sure Hubs was okay with that. He sure was, and the potatoes arrived with a sliced roasted jalapeno on top. We both enjoyed our orders very much--the flavors were delicious, and the meals felt much lighter and fresher than even the "elevated" Mexican we eat in Southern California. Throughout the meal we were visited by several of our table staff including Francisco our waiter, several of his assistants, and even Oscar the maitre'd to check in and make sure we were happy with our meals and our experience. The restaurant was tastefully appointed, very clean, and we were able to enjoy a quiet conversation even though the restaurant was reasonably busy. We'll be back! read more

The salmon was too chewy like they cooked a little too long and the corn was pretty good. We came here for a Bachelorette Party and had a group of 11 people. We were greeted with water with a platter of fresh citrus, mint, basil and cucumbers to add to your glass to make spa water. The menu is expansive with many options, including vegan options. We started with various items for appetizers like the guacamole, bone marrow, tortilla soup, and octopus. Everything was delicious. And they serve many steaks on fire! We also had a most people order steak or seafood. I ordered the roasted ny sirloin in the bone marrow sauce which was out of this world delicious. The steak was tender and the sauce was rich and decadent. Plus it came on top of mashed potatoes which were the perfect way to round out the meal. I also ordered esquite and it was light, flavorful and fresh. The wine list had enough options and only offered mexican wines which was a nice way to try something the new. The cocktails were beautiful and tasty, but seemed to have lighter pours. I ordered two tequila cocktails and didn't feel tipsy at all. We ended with churros and tres leches cake. Our table started off with a nice Malbec and some tortilla soups for all. Elegant presentation and excellent flavor. A torta, which is a sandwich and the aguachile steak was ordered for a group of four. The torta was very good, but overall the aguachile steak took the prize for entrees of the night. It was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The steak was cut and aguachile sauce was flamed at the table. Last up for dessert we ordered a chocolate cake and the churros. By far one of the BEST restaurants I've been to. From the taste of the food to the service. Our server Abel went above and beyond to ensure the best possible experience. From constantly refilling our waters, bringing out extra tostadas and tortillas without us having to ask. It truly made our meals such a GREAT EFFORTLESS experience. We came as a group of 6 and had the opportunity to try a bunch of different dishes. The bone marrow with escamoles, barbacoa, and key lime pie were my favorites. Btw Mariachi starts at 930 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Just know they only play a couple songs before taking a break. I believe they have 4 short performances. We were supposed to go La Vaca for dinner but as the taxi driver passed by I couldn't believe what I saw. Porfirios is here too. I remembered enjoying our dinner in Cancun that we went to that resto two days in a row so I told the guys let's go to Porfirios instead. First place we dined in PV - the service was top notch. Thought we'd have a view but just have read it wrong - no view no natural lighting in fact on the darker side. Had a video DJ - that was spinning tunes with accompanying videos so that was cool - quite a bit from the 70s when we were there. Onto the food - party of six so ordered many entrees - I actually order three small plates - crispy beef tacos, soft tacos and a Chile relleno. The descriptions in the menu are more elaborate. Other entrees were flank steak and shrimp tacos. Averages out to four - I would pass on the crispy beef tacos - They are large but vessel to meat ratio errs big time on the tortilla. Apps included guacamole and a fried cheese and bone marrow. Marrow was best thing I had but guacamole was excellent as was the fried cheese. They don't use chips in the traditional sense - more like small tostada shells - I'd prefer chips. Overall it was fine but lack of view and more of an upscale Mexican food vibe didn't help me- it reads special occasion for locals or for perhaps older tourists that want to be waited on and emphasize amazing service. Maybe later in the night it attracts younger folks? Drinks were great as well. Solid 4 but I'd still prefer a birria taco from the food stand. It is a great experience so I'd go again but would be infrequently if I lived there. read more

My wife got very sick after eating the Chilis Rellenos here last Wednesday 4/2/24. It ruined the rest of her trip to Puerto Vallarta. We are very careful about where we eat in PV and we have eaten at Porfirios in Cancun before with a positive experience along with Harry's and Ilios. In addition, we got the cowboy cut ribeye cooked table side and they over cooked it. The staff didn't know how to transfer the cooking tray to the able as to not burn their hands and by the time they moved it to the table it was overcooked. Finally, the place was only half full and does not have the same atmosphere of other Anderson grupo restaurants. read more

We are not young, but this restaurant was recommended by our hotel. All staff were kind and attentive. The noise level for a half empty restaurant with families and no twenties group was offensive, deafening and ruined any food that was served. I went to this place about three weeks ago when I was in PV. It looked nice on the outside and it had good reviews so we decided to try it. Unfortunately, the appetizers were not that great and we ended up leaving before ordering an actual entree. I got the Aguachiles appetizer which tasted like something that I could easily get at an El Torito-like restaurant in the United States. My fiancé got a dish that had small cuts of steak that were cooked with on a hot stone. He asked the waiter to cook the meat for him medium rare but was more rare. The tostadas had a charred look and taste. They honestly just tasted burnt. On top of that, the dinning experience was.... Awkward. I know Spanish so decided to speak Spanish to the waiter but when he noticed that we were American, he began to talk to us in English. So I figured he was just trying to practice his English and decided to speak in English. Despite his efforts, I don't think he fully understood what I was saying. I asked him for the wine menu and he said he'd bring it but had a confused look on his face- he never brought it. I'm not sure if they knew how to address people in English, either. At one point he and another waiter addressed me as "hey lady" which was a bit weird. I tried to go back to speaking to him in Spanish a few times after that but for some reason he was inclined to continue the conversation in English. I'm not trying to bad mouth his efforts. It's actually very bold and admirable, but it just made things a bit more difficult to communicate and made it awkward. So , please don't do this again. I would rather speak Spanish if there is a next time. It would just make communicating a lot easier and will probably increase the overall dinning experience a bit more. The aesthetics of the place looked nice. It definitely seemed trendy but you could tell it's a place where people with money go just for the trendiness and pictures for social media. We were also getting weird looks from the customers.... Not sure how to feel about that one. read more

We did not have a great experience, but I'm not sure if our experience is representative of what you can expect so I'll be as objective as possible. When we were seated, we were accosted by two waiters. As soon as we sat down the waiter asked us what we would like to order. Before we even had a chance to look at the menu. Sketchy vibes. Frantic, jarring, pressuring. We felt extremely rushed. I had to tell the waiter to slow down. Food was good, not anything special. My picanha steak was cooked to medium though I ordered medium rare. It had a nice crust though. My wife had shrimp. Meh. The pulsating, repetitive techno pop was grating and loud. We had to almost yell to talk to each other. The service was amateur. We ordered ice cream for my son as dessert and it came out in an old fashioned ice cream bucket with ice and salt around it. Phenomenal restaurant in Paradise! If you are lucky enough to be in Puerto Vallarta do yourself a favor and visit Porfirio's. We came hear on a whim and i'm so happy we did. We were a group of over 20 people and this was the best place. They also have an onsite babysitter along with a room for kids. It was so wonderful for the adults to be able to have fun and cut loose while the kids were entertained. Wish restaurants at home would provide this service! Last night in puerto Vallarta and we were looking for a nice restaurant and man we hit the spot with this one. Food was delicious we opted for the calamari, bone marrow appetizers and got CAÑA DE FILETE AL MEZCAL UNIÓN® and the mar y tierra form our main dishes and we were not disappointed. The ambient is really nice with music playing and club ish music on the main bottom floor and I know they have an outside seating too but idk how the ambient was there. All the staff is so attentive ranging from managers waiters and busboys. Our sever was GABINO! And man he was great at explaining all the sauces, meats and alcohol drinks we had. read more

We had high hopes for this place. We are down in PV on a retreat for our sales team. We booked a group dinner for 29 people 2-3 weeks before we showed up. They gave us a limited menu because of our large group and collected half up front. When we got there they said they were only expecting 18 people. When I showed them that we had already paid for half of the 29 people they did their best to accommodate, but our group was split up. Then they sat us under these air conditioning vents that were dripping water and condensation into some of our group's hair and food throughout the night. They also said that part our select menu had a chocolate cake that they never brought out. The food was pretty good. The ribeye and guacamole was awesome. The ambiance of the restaurant other than dripping water was nice. I wish it could have all come together, but overall we were frustrated with the evening that we were trying to make nice for our sales staff. read more

The restaurant has a good menu but there was too much of everything; loud music, tv monitors everywhere, and a large but seemingly ineffective team. Everything that could have gone well was ruined by the fact we waited thirty minutes for our appetizers, and one of them simply did not arrive. They served my husband's main course at the same time. This ended up being lucky for him, since we didn't get the rest of our meal until two hours later. No updates or explanations. After waiting several hours, a waiter told us that we were within our rights to cancel the order. He assured us that if we decided not to cancel, he'd give us an update on the food's "real" arrival time. We never got that update, and when the food eventually arrived, we quickly realized they'd botched the order on top of everything else.
