This is an unsolicited review I felt I needed to post because our experience was incredible. We met family here since it was a great middle point between Burlington and Montreal, and it could not have worked out better. The service was outstanding. Everyone was thoughtful and friendly, without being over the top. it is obvious they care about your experience, want you to feel comfortable, and take pride in their work. The atmosphere is cozy and full of great energy. Every detail feels intentional. I especially love the wall art that the owner's friend made for them and the cute dishes they served their meals on. The food was absolutely incredible. We started with the onion tart, recommended to us by the wait staff, and it is definitely a must. Every entrée was excellent, especially the char. Everything felt well prepared and was beautifully presented. Dessert wrapped up our experience and was just as impressive. The lemon dessert was amazing, the French toast was unforgettable, and the rum ball was the best I have ever had. Every person in our group was blown away by this experience. This place is the real deal. Great atmosphere, great food, great service. The owner, Adam, gave us a delightful review of the menu. Our server, Kelly, was perfect, attentive without being intrusive. Great wine list, but no liquor. We the scallop appetizer, and the onion tart. Both delicious. The onion tart was very unique and highly recommended. For the main course we had the sausage, duck. And yes, we had dessert, French toast and the fig toffee pudding. Prices for this high quality food were very reasonable. read more

Ate here tonight because friends bought us gift cards, they are true foodies. What a delight!!! Nice and eclectic wine list. I'm a Pinot noir fan, so it did NOT disappoint. For starters we had the coquilles St Jacques, and onion tart. OMG! Best I have ever had. Likewise, for entree we had braised beef gnocchi and trout almandine. Again, nothing but praises! The service is impeccable. The chef brought out our entrees and our waiter, Spencer was both knowledgeable and pleasant. The ambiance is French cafe/bistro. Music was the right volume and selection to enhance the experience. Will definitely return. Great place for a date night or special occasion. read more

My partner and I have been excitedly awaiting Café Monette's opening for over a year and the wait was so worth it. The space is light, airy, and so inviting. You can see the attention that went into the details, down to the lovely French cutlery. We were seated promptly (reservations highly encouraged) at the table right next to the window into the kitchen so I did spend the whole meal staring at the chefs creating immaculate plates. Everything we had was absolutely delicious and beautiful. The Onion Tarte Tatin was one of my favorite bites of food I've ever had. Both of our pasta dishes were perfectly Al dente and the balance of flavors were spot on. Of course dessert was fantastic as well; I appreciated our server bringing over little spoons so we could literally drink the Crème anglaise under our Opera cake. I cannot wait to go back again and again, Saint Albans is lucky to have a beautiful locally-driven spot like this putting out the highest quality food. read more

We had a wonderful first-time dining experience at Café Monette on a recent outing. From arrival, greeting to seating to desert completing everything was great. We were greeted by Norm; he's the gentleman wearing a beret. We were early and every table was filled, except one. Norm got us set and really helped our first time experience by sharing details about the menu, including fan favorites, and newly added menu items. We ordered both fan favorites and new items. I do recommend the onion tart, one of the popular starters. We also had the Atlantic Char, that was perfectly portioned. This night was a special occasion, an anniversary dinner and it didn't disappoint. The crew moved well and supported one another, to make sure you have excellent experience. We never felt rushed. The only ding, and it didn't distract from our experience, is the noise level. This is a fun and upbeat restaurant, it's not cozy and intimate. The clatter wasn't negative; it was evidence of people dinning and having a good time. IMO they really did everything right, including NOT adding a credit card fee, but rather offering a discount for cash payment. We can't wait to go back. read more

We went to Cafe Monette in April of this year for the first time. I have to say that this was the best restaurant meal I have had since moving to Vermont 17 years ago. All the dishes (party of 4, lots of sampling) were unique and flavorful. The appetizers (bread and onion tart) were as unique and delicious as the dinners. The service was good as well. We ordered mussels, steak, and chicken as entrees, and everybody went home happy....which is not typical. The prices were quite reasonable for the portions and quality, especially the quality. We are definitely going back, and we highly recommend Cafe Monette to anyone looking for a unique meal that embarasses the ubiquitous bar food menus at 90 percent of the local restaurants. read more

This restaurant does everything right--from the host greeting us to the chefs waving goodbye. We went for the first time on my birthday. We were treated to the "Chef's Table" and watched them work. They brought us free appetizers to snack on as part of the experience. Ashley, our server, was attentive and took time to chat with us and answer our questions. The food was astounding! Get the bread and dessert. Everything is delicious. This is our new go-to restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy but you don't feel crowded and the acoustics allowed you to have intimate conversations without having to raise your voice. This was one of the best meals I have had in Vermont. All the food was amazing. The onion tart was so carmelized it almost tasted like apples. The duck sausage is not to be missed!!
