Several of us tried liver pudding/liver sausage for the first time. The order that came with 2 eggs was plenty to share. Country fried steak and biscuits were very good. The white gravy was just okay. Eight year old loved the chocolate chip pancakes and side of bacon. The stack of three pancakes would have fed 3 kids. My only complaint was my omelet was not cooked through. Runny eggs on my plate when I cut into it. Not appetizing at all. Considering that this is the only eatery in the area and at least 40 minutes away from all the surrounding towns, the food is surprisingly good. Their menu is expansive, but I just didn't find the place to be exceptionally clean. 94.0 was sanitation grade, but the laminate floor was extremely sticky. How long since it had seen a mop ??? Tonight after graduation the family and I decided to go to Cagney's Kitchen in Wilkesboro. This was only my 2nd time at this Cagney's location but we frequent the locations in and around Winston often with no issues. Tonight was a different story. I realize the cost on most everything has went up. I'm not naive to the fact that things have changed since Covid and I would not consider myself a greedy person. I ordered a 2 item combo with popcorn shrimp and white fish. The pic below shows the serving size. Now let's be honest..90% of the time when you order this same thing at any other restaurant...the shrimp would be falling off the plate. You can easily make 2-3 meals from this usual order. That's what I expected for $16.95. I honestly thought it may have just been a mistake so I kindly asked our server if this was the normal and she informed me that she would speak with her manager. The manager Arjan sent her back to inform me that because it was a combination plate they only give half servings. In my mind it should then be half the price. The shrimp were cold and had a weird aftertaste. The fish was decent. The squash was also cold and tasted like old grease. I asked that Arjan come speak with me and I began to explain my issues and asked that my meal be discounted. His response was "well that's just how it is". I said well then have it your way.. a bad review will be coming. He was extremely rude. Made several comments such as "what gives you the right to ask for a discount" and "I don't care about your review". He then proceeded to walk away. Sooo...here ya go Arjan Dede. For those of you that frequent this establishment I would think twice, but if you insist I would recommend requesting Reina as your server. She's absolutely awesome. This down-home cooking restaurant is well known by the locals. A tiny bit off the beaten path, a lot of right hand turns to get to it but it is right off the freeway. We were very impressed. On our way to Raleigh for our grandson's 10th birthday we stopped in Appleby's. I asked if they had chicken fried steak and the waitress said no, but the best chicken fried steak could be had at Cagney's down the road a bit. We decided to stop there on the way home the next day. We are so glad we did. I had the chicken fried steak which was done perfectly, crispy and covered in white gravy with mashed potatoes and collard greens. Husband had the broiled catfish.... WOW! It was spectacular. Perfectly done, moist and just delicious without all that breading. It was wonderful. The locals came and went, greeting each other by name and handshake. The only similarity between this Cagney's Kitchen and the ones in Winston-Salem is the sign. Don't go here expecting the same service or food; it doesn't compare. We went for lunch on a Friday and it was lackluster, at best. Our "free chips" didn't make it to the table until long after our meal started (and we reminded the server a couple of times) and I think they were leftover from the night before. You can't just cook up hot chips and serve them whenever you want. If you're not going to cook them to order, you should reconsider that whole "free chips" strategy for getting lunch customers. My son is nuts about cheeseburgers and has never had anything bad to say about a cheeseburger in his life - until this meal at Cagney's. Don't get me wrong, he'll still eat cheeseburgers, just not from Cagney's. I had chicken tenders and fries (surprise, surprise) and they were run-of-the-mill frozen/fried tenders. I don't recommend them. The fries were terrible and I only ate one. My husband would eat anything - and I feel like he did after eating this meal... The service was a bit below average. Went here over the weekend because Wilkesboro really doesn't have much to offer, in my opinion. I wanted to eat somewhere that I'd never been to that was fairly cheap, and this was pretty much our only option. It's got a country feel, which is nice. The menu is overwhelming if you've never been because they literally have everything. Perfect place to come as a family because there's something for everyone. My son ordered a corn dog and fries. My husband ordered a stromboli, and I ordered a burger and fries. The girls that work there are nice, but service is definitely veryyy slow. Food took quite a while to come out of the kitchen and by the time it got to our table, it was warm (not hot). My husband and son seemed to enjoy theirs. Mine was okay. Nothing special. Presentation was certainly lacking. The ambiance is not bad with some interesting "down home" decor. The wait staff was very polite and accommodating. I've had two recent visits. The following is a breakdown of said visits. 1st Visit: I had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and it was delicious while out with a group of friends for my buddies going away party. The service was okay not the best in the world but certainly not bad. They had a large group of us to serve and the restaurant was full so I think everyone did a great job in serving considering the situation. 2nd Visit: Me and my mother ate breakfast and the only thing that was truly good was the bacon. The sausage had a weird flavor to it and It wasn't even cooked all the way. It was most likely lazily reheated. Service was great and very friendly. It's just not somewhere I would typically go for breakfast. I'd just assume have coffee house in Millers Creek to be honest. Final Words: The menu is very large and I think some items should be cut. If they will listen to feedback of their customers and make necessary adjustments they should be fine. Consistency is key here for this restaurant to succeed from what I gather on Yelp. They have been very inconsistent in the past. It's also way too dark and when people are talking you can hear everything people say like others have mentioned. read more

I ate breakfast with a few friends this morning 8/26/2021 ordered 1pancake , bacon, and a Pepsi. Went up to pay it was $ 9.30. I told her that wasn't right, she said yes it was. So I paid it I have come home and looked at all the menus posted on any of their websites. The one Cagney's of Wilkesboro Menu Has 3pancakes $4.25 I got just one should have been $1.42, bacon $2.25, drink$1.60. My bill should have been $5.27 without tax. And I left a tip on table. And I was charged $9.30 with the tax. And the waitress didn't fill my drink up again it was empty for the last 30mins we was there. I call and talked to the manager and all he said was he would call and have them to update the menus. Never Offered me a refund. I will never go back I should sue for faults advertising. And the ham biscuit one other one got he couldn't even bite it to eat it was so tough I hope they go out of business and we get a more reliable place to eat,cause the food isn't all that great anyways.
