So... here's my thing. This place needs to be assessed on a couple of fronts so add or subtract stars as needed. 1) Ambience. As a restaurant, it's very nice. Slick, Manhattan vibe. Faux re-claimed wood and a cool basin sink in the Men's Room. Soft, mellow house music pumps throughout. Nice outdoor space with heaters, if needed. Very chill and urban which, for me is part of the problem. It's a Cajun joint, right? I'm expecting Buckwheat Zydeco and raw pine benches. with sawhorse tables and checkered cloths. Ya dig? Basically, it's a nice place but the vibe is incongruous with the alleged culture. 2) Food. The food was fine but somehow not as authentic as I was hoping for. Wife's "fish burger" (no jokes, please) was OK but seemed like an industrial patty. Appropriately moist on the inside and slightly crispy on the out, it still kinda lacked that handmade, breaded in Panko withhillbilly's toe nail clippings that I expected. Fries were delicious but again, they're fries. I ordered a boil: 1/2 black mussels and 1/2 crawfish. It came with hunks of boiled corn and potatoes, which were fine. The mussels and crawfish were also fine but a bit less than I expected. I ordered it "spicy" which wasn't very spicy at all. If any of you are chiliheads, order it as hot as you can and/or bring our own stuff to ramp it up. As an app we had the "spicy" chili wings which, again, were not spicy and were very subtly flavored. Crispy (which was nice) but plated (5 of them) on a stark white tray with sauce drizzled about. Again, fine but not in line with what I expected for a Cajun joint. I mean, even my boil, when it came out, was in a plastic bag and which was then opened and deposited into my dish. Did they sous vide this? A small matter but it probably should have been presented steaming and plated. The vibe is chill but wrong for a Cajun resto, IMO. It reminds me a lot of Taiko 360 down the block so I wonder if they've been bought out? Vibe as a resto: 3 1/2 stars Vibe as a CAJUN resto: 2 stars Food as such: 3 stars Food as a CAJUN spot (taking into consideration presentation and spice-level): 2 stars Check it out for yourself but if you're looking for that bayou, toothless, slap-yo-mamma, alligator bite and moonshine kinda joint, you might be disappointed. Girlfriend and I ordered our food and had a great waiter. His name was Joe. He was very friendly and helpful with ordering and telling us about the menu and the survey to get a free beer or wings. Was amazing. I ordered a soft crab burger with fries and lobster bisque soup. And along with the wings. The crab was so good and seasoned up along with the fries. I cannot say enough amazing things about Cajun Claws in patchouge!!!! my husband and I have been dinning here since its opening and it is our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE RESTAURANT! We feel like we've grown with them bc we stayed loyal during a pandemic, my entire pregnancy, and now that my son is 1 and has only had his seafood from Cajun claws, it feels the most like family taking care of us every single time we walk in the door!!! The menu is amazing with so many uniquely paired and freaking delicious apps and entrées. BUT THE SEAFOOD BOILS!!!!! Dined here last night with my wife and 12 year old son. It was a wonderful meal. First, the service was great. Our waitress Shannon was a pleasure. She was attentive and very nice. Everything was served promptly. Drinks were refilled when needed. And she helped explain things when asked. The food was delicious. I had 1/2 doz oysters. They where fine. Nice and briny. My wife had the lobster bisque. It was so good. It has a unique flavor that was slightly sweet. Never quite tasted it this way before. Well done! My son ordered the fried calamari and it came with two sauces. It was very nicely done. For dinner my son had the soft shell crab sandwich. He loved it. I tried it and it was perfectly done. My wife and I shared the $49 boil. It has a lobster, shrimp and octopus. Also corn, potatoes and sausage. You select the sauce and the heat level. We with with Cajun, medium. It was fantastic! I stopped at a local fish market and found puny crab legs, so decided to come over here instead. I took a chance and gave it a whirl. Server was attentive, yet not a creeper. All tools, napkins, bib and wipes ready for you ahead of time. Good job! Owner or Manager, very well dressed, briefly stopped by to ask how everything was, without interrupting your meal. I needed oysters in my life and decided to come here. Not the best I've ever had ,but definitely delicious. The vinegar sauce was decent. The pineapple juice was tasty. The waiter Jesse was attentive and kind. (Tip: please don't put your wait staffs fill name on the receipt. I don't plan to stalk him, but it seems like a privacy issue)The lady at the bar was friendly as well. My only qualm was that I wish I was aware that it was happy hour and I could have saved $4 and most likely would have ordered more food (bottomless pit here). Great place for happy hour ! The wings are the beat I've ever had , delicious Teriyaki sauce and the outside skin on the wings still remains crunchy. They are unbelievable . For happy hour they have half dozen $5 oysters and clams and u know they are fresh ! Also they know how to shuck which is a definite plus. The atmosphere is nice. There beer selection needs improvement. We ordered the Lobster Bisque which was good. The shrimp cocktail was also good. We ordered the combo of shrimp and potatoes. Growing up in a cajun household I at least know what real cajun food is. And this ain't that and it's anything but cajun. The name should be changed to Asian claw.
