Ordered a great amount of things that included Fried Chicken that smelled like seafood that had gone bad, Boudin Balls that taste like spoiled dirty rice, Mac n cheese that was greasy and flavorless, Collard greens that literally had no seasoning or anything to make it taste good, and ordered two sides of yams that we did t even get at all. Paid $80 for all the food and we had to throw it out Bc it was truly that poor in taste. We're from Houston so we know Cajun food and this was sadly far from it! I'm so glad I found this place, A little gem in Oxnard, they have Soul Food that's right I said it Soul Food in Ventura County, I had the best shrimp & cheese grits my first time there, unfortunately they we're out of cornbread, however their hush puppies more than satisfied that cornbread craving everything was so good that I had to go back the next night to try their fried Catfish, Red snapper & shrimp combo plate, I have to say they didn't dissappoint with the combo plate. I did get a chance to try the cornbread this time, it was a bit overcooked so caused it to be dry,however I'm still giving them 5 stars because I believe since it was late in the evening and right before closing they gave me what they had left,needless to say once again the hush puppies were great. The cajun chicken wings and the fried shrimp were my favorite! I thought the fried shrimp was a tad too salty though, but the cook and the coating on it, got me! I'm not a fan of sweet yams in general, but I gotta tell you their sweet yams were the best ones I've ever had! I could only eat 5 bites, but everyone else kept eating them! So if YOU like sweet yams, you're gonna LOVE these! Their hush puppies were also legit! Good texture and flavors! ALSO the restaurant owners are from the South (authentic!) and friendly! The Cajun Country Cafe is located in a shopping center in West Oxnard. Cajun food is flavorful with the right blend of seasoning and spices. I had the combo dinner with catfish, fried shrimp and two sides: cole slaw with red beans & rice. They have nearly 30 "sides" to choose from! The fried catfish and shrimp is on-point and delicious! There are a few tables outside and also live entertainment. Check their on-line menu as they have many food choices. They do a lot of take-out orders too! It's hard to find authentic Cajun food, but this IS the real deal! I've lived in Mississippi and would travel to New Orleans all the time! They give you a lot food for the money and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Where else can you have catfish, eggs, potatoes and grits for breakfast? I love it! The folks there are great! I ordered the fried turkey special with four sides and added peach cobbler for Thanksgiving dinner. The food was delicious and exceeded expectations. The turkey was tender, seasoned with tasty spices and everyone loved it. The side dishes were jambalaya, collard greens, dirty rice, and Mac and cheese. All of them were just as tasty and nicely seasoned. The peach cobbler was also outstanding. The serving sizes were generous and the service matched the food. My tax lady opened up her cajun restaurant. I ordered the 2 piece catfish dinner with mac n cheese, collard greens and hush puppies. I also got the boudin sausage, which is a rice and seasoned pork sausage. Imagine Popeye's cajun rice. There was a happy accident with those. The sausage ruptured while cooking, so the chef rolled up the filling and deep fried them. Added a little hot sauce and they were amazing. The catfish was lightly seasoned and crunchy. Very good catfish. The mac and cheese doesn't have a thick sauce, but it's super rich and buttery. Delicious as well. The collard greens through me for a loop. Most collards I have are subtle but these were a kick in the face with a smokey flavor. The hush puppies were delightful. Super crunchy and a nice and moist cornbread batter on the inside. Visited the restaurant for the first time Friday night. They were pretty busy and a long wait time for take out food. I had the bbq chicken leg quarters with Mac n cheese and jambalaya. BBQ sauce was super tasty and loved the sides. Hubby loved his combo fried catfish, shrimp, and hush puppies. Hopefully they fix their wait time but not holding it against them since they are new. I don't believe any of the good reviews here. The store is very small and really only good for takeout. The food is at most OK, when it's served fresh. The biggest downside is that the small small portions are highly overpriced.. Another thing I noticed is all the good reviews read the same. That makes me suspicious that they are real customers writing the good reviews. Who cares if it's a family restaurant? Customers typically only care that it's good food at reasonable prices. I've been here twice and I don't believe these reviews for one minute. This door needs to learn that you cannot overcharge folks for mediocre food. read more

I order gumbo through Uber eats and asked for no rice and of course the gave it to me anyways so by the time it arrived the rice soaked up all the gumbo . I went and took it back they told me get refund through Uber that's how they serve it , just rude about it when they could have even offered a new one with out rice my things is even if you serve it with the rice know it's getting delivered why not serve the rice on the side and not to mention it had too much of a fishy flavor when I tasted it they flavor it as no where close to gumbo, they argued me down but one things about it the customer is always right one lady even went on to say my receipt didn't say no rice but when I showed her then the man said well that's how we serve it how you gonna force something on to when I could have a food allergy to rice ! The place is what DDD would call a hole in the wall but the food is super amazing. The staff are friendly and super chill. I had the po'boy hot sausage which is very yummy with the lettuce, tomato, pickles and sauce help made it super yummy. Hush puppies well made and just like being in the south. I'm taking home the gumbo along with some leg quarters. I know this won't be a disappointment. If you as the staff of its spicy they'll tell you it's well seasoned. Lol read more

Had myself the Cajun Breakfast and I was as happy as a clam! Grits, biscuit, eggs, bacon, sausage and potatoes all served up hot and fresh. I miss my comfort food since moving to SoCal from the East Bay Area, so this was a pleasant surprise after Yelping them as I got my car washed next door. Surrounded by chain restaurants, this place is walking distance from all of them in this area, so get to walking your butt over there for some good ol' southern comfort food! My family and I tried this local place over Memorial Day weekend and I must say we enjoyed it very much. We tried the breakfast dishes and I think it tasted better than most places for the reasonable price. My wife and daughter are very picky but liked the breakfast offerings. The first time l ate at the Cajun Country Cafe in Oxnard on Ventura Road it was excellent. I had Shrimp Po Boy and Jambalaya. Extremely delicious. I went back a week and a half later and I was extremely disappointed. The Jambalaya only had a tiny piece of sausage nothing but rice and l ordered a large. I called them and the gal said l just scoop it out. Well maybe you should stir it around a bit before you scoop it out! Then the bread for the Po Boy was hard and a little tough. The first one was lathered in butter toasted just right then the other stuff was added. A nice gentleman had fixed the first one and he knew what he was doing.
