i've worked for this company and all their food comes in frozen. All the sides are bagged pre-cooked and just warmed up. They have no sanitation rules or and then on top of it. The manager held my check for over a month even though it's illegal to do in the state of Indiana, they don't care what rules or laws they break. I've seen them drop stuff on the floor and still cook it and serve it to the customers I would not recommend eating here whatsoever. read more

I loved this place but I am highly disappointed and will never order again.. I placed an order at 7:24pm for pick up.. The website hours says close at 8.. I have placed orders close to the close time before and was told as long as I can make it by 8 I'm fine.. I pulled in the parking lot at 7:45pm grabbed my phone and saw that my order was cancelled.. I called and left as told they were closed and I stated the website says 8 he says to me no we're closed.. On top of that the refund stated it takes 5-10 business days to come back... Never again.. My family and i went for our granddaughters 18th birthday and she got king crab legs that were over cooked. My wife got shrimp pasta that was over cooked and flavorless. i got a lobster roll that didn't taste like lobster at all, but i liked the cajun seasoning it had. I also ordered southwest rolls that weren't bad, but were soggy instead of crispy. The coleslaw was good and the cajun fries were the best side. The calamari and hush puppies were also good as appetizers. Our server was nice and took good care of us, but the food did take a while to get. Always great food and service! The only downside is that it is pretty expensive and that it's automatically 18% gratuity. I've been to Cajun Crab in Merrillville multiple times and the food is usually good, which makes today's experience even more disappointing. I ordered a margarita made with Hennessy. The first drink was fine. When I ordered a second one, it tasted completely different clearly not Hennessy. I only drink Hennessy, so I know the taste very well. When I brought this to their attention, I was told they "don't take items off the bill" and was basically forced to pay for a drink that was not what I ordered. I asked to speak with a manager, and instead of professionalism or accountability, I was met with an attitude and immediately dismissed. I was told it was Hennessy because someone claimed they were nearby while it was being made which does not resolve the issue or change the fact that the drink tasted wrong. Mistakes happen, but how a business handles them matters. There was no accountability, no effort to correct the issue, and poor customer service overall. Being told to pay anyway when something is clearly incorrect is unacceptable. As good as the food may be, the service and lack of integrity ensure I won't be returning or spending my money here again. read more

I had a horrible experience here. I ordered headless shrimp, black muscles, and snow crabs. The first problem started when I saw that the muscles weren't in the shells it wasn't even a stem in them. The waiter said they fell through the bag so I tried it and they were overcooked. I let them know and asked for a new batch of muscles. While I waited for the muscles I tried the other items in the bag and they were all over cooked even down to the eggs that were split open. I asked for a manager and he told me and my boyfriend that we were trying to play games I told him we were not but he still gave us attitude he took the food and exchanged the bag. I looked through the bag to make sure it wasn't the same bag and found hair on my eggs. I said are u serious showed him the hair. And he said we needed to leave! There was no apology. First my food was overcooked then there was hair and the manager got upset like it was my fault. My boyfriend had the baby back ribs and when he said it was pink and undercooked the manager also told him that's how ribs are. His attitude was absolutely disgusting and I plan on making a video! I've enjoyed being a customer at the CCH and in the past have agreed to the 18% upcharge for a tip. (I often leave 20% for good service). Yesterday, I wanted to order carryout and noticed they assessed the 18% tip on carryout orders too. I absolutely love this place, they have the best Seafood Boils in Indiana hands down. The seafood bread, crab cakes, crab legs, corn and everything is delicious. My favorite is the Hangry Feast and add the kids butter noodles while you are at it. The sauce is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place for some good food, good music and great hospitality. This restaurant is awful and managerment is unprofessional. My family of 13 attempted to dine here on Saturday, the day before Mother's day to avoid the crowds and the rush. The manager would not seat us. I told him we can be seated at different tables. He said No! The restaurant was not crowded or near crowded at 1pm in the afternoon. I continued to ask questions to get a clear understanding as to why he would not service us. He said no and I'm not going to go back and forth with you. I like to look to Yelp for recommendations on new places to eat ... we happened to be shopping at the mall and the crab House was right there. Although there were mixed reviews, we still wanted to check it out. I'm not really sure about peoples variable experiences, but it was quite pleasant for us .! We were there during slow times around 3 pm.... So that is something to take note of. But !!!! Our server was amazing... the drinks (I had the jungle juice ) were so good I had to have two. ! We decided on the blue crab boil as we hadn't had blue crab before and it was a modest price. THEY were delicious and generous portions! I would probably just order the plain butter sauce next time the garlic butter was a little salty, but the rice and beans were delicious and perfectly cooked! So we tried the Cajun Crab House and the experience was...Pretty good I must say. At first we were a little nervous because we arrived about 6:00 pm and the place was not very busy. Add to that, it was Father's Day weekend so we expected a wait. Needless to say we were seated quickly and our server came right away. The menu allows for you to customize your own boil/steam pot so I went with the king crab with sausage and corn. I almost got some shrimp but I knew I wanted some hush puppies and a cup of gumbo as an appetizer so I didn't want to get too full. Well, that was a hope in vain because my bag was FULL of food when I received it.(more on that later) they allow for crab gumbo, shrimp gumbo and plain(can we get a combination please, lol). I went with the crab gumbo which was flavorful and good. It wasn't extremely hot but if you don't like spicy food it probably isn't for you. The hush puppies however were nothing special at all. My steam bag was delicious. They say they give you a pound worth of crab but I felt like I got the hookup. I counted no fewer than about 5 maybe 6 large legs/claws and they were all fresh. This is important because old crab tears all up on you but I was able to pull out nothing but whole spears of crab once cracked. The sausage and corn completed my bag and I felt like the seafood 'au jus' in the bottom of the bag had a very flavorful seasoning to it. I was dipping my crab and corn all into that. I shared some of my crab with family members at the table and still came away from that table stuffed. Almost everyone in my party took something home with them. I was the only one who looked like a greedy man. So what, it was Fathers Day weekend! Our server was great too. She gave meaningful and helpful advice when we were ordering. She kept the glasses full without asking and she made sure our table was cleared of plates and clutter while we ate. I also appreciate her being considerate, asking things like if I wanted a child's cup for my toddler, if I wanted my gumbo to come out first or with my meal.. it's the little things that count for me. The only thing we had to ask about, ironically, were the crab crackers. When we told her she was so apologetic, explaining she had made a basket with them and forgot to bring them to the table, which she did in like 10 seconds Lastly, price: There were five of us plus a toddler. Everybody had a steam pot combination except my daughter who had an adult portioned order of chicken tenders(which were well seasoned and ample in portion). One of my family members had a drink. It was fairly strong if you like em that way and it was in a gargantuan sized margarita glass. The bill came to $365 which included a 20% gratuity. I'll be honest, I didn't expect to come to this mall seafood place and spend almost $400. That said, everyone enjoyed their food, the portions were huge and the service was great. My family and I planned to come to this restaurant on Saturday, the day before Mother's Day, to celebrate. We called more than a week ahead saying that our party would be around 11, but they said "we don't take reservations" over the phone. We still told them the time we'd show up. When I arrived to the restaurant, I saw my family, with 4 of them being senior citizens, standing outside of the restaurant being denied service. The Cajun Crab House restaurant was terrible to me and my family of 13. We drove all the way from Chicago, paid tolls and everything to get to this restaurant to celebrate a Mother's Day dinner. My aunt chose the place and planned a month or more in advance for us all to celebrate here with seafood. The manager called the security on us because it was 13 African Americans and one Hispanic in our family party. He would not seat us even though there was plenty of room in the place. I've had better seafood at Long John Silver's. The seafood was not even remotely fresh, the only saving grace was the sauce, that basically just made up for the lost flavor in the meat. I had high hopes that our seafood boil would be amazing after the amazing fried gator we had. But the cheap seafood crackers they gave us to crack the crab just cut through the shell into the meat, making the meat almost inedible due to the broken shell that ended up embedded into it. The slow, inevitable decline of a once serviceable restaurant has begun. Hard to know where to start, but the place is falling off. Generally, the wait staff is either unbearably indifferent or openly hostile. They run twenty year olds out of the business during the middle of the day, and then claim it is "mall policy." It isn't. We asked mall management. They just don't want to serve young adults. The food was once fairly good, but they are clearly suffering from cost increases and they WILL short you on the weight of the items you order. In no universe is five scallops a full pound of scallops. Everything is a little less fresh, the sauces a little more watered down, the costs more and more expensive. It's a shame. The ambiance was always unremarkable, but that's mall eating for you. It's a little sad and, frankly, I put it all down to management within the restaurant. Hire someone who actually likes people. Hire cooks who have a little pride in their work. If it is too expensive to have a particular item on the menu, just take it off for a little while until the price stabilizes. You CAN recover, CCH.
