Went last week to check out the new bar. It's a huge space but not sure what the goal is. Bar is a long and straight 20 seat monster. Bunch of TV's and a decent selection of drinks. But it is REALLY loud. There were maybe 9 people in there and you had yell at the person next to you because it's all concrete and metal. Not sure who thought this would work but it definitely does not. Also doesn't look like anyone had a plan of what they wanted the space to be. Live music? DJ? The acoustics are going to be awful. It's a massive space with a bunch of tables and nothing else. It's quite simply just odd. As for the food, it's not good. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Pretty bland and nothing is fresh. It's also outrageously overpriced. Chicken fajitas were meh and they were $27.00. We got shrimp and they were rubbery and came in a plastic bag, which was in a bucket. Weird. Also, no silverware. Only plastic. Just a headscratcher all around. The website says they have happy hour but they didn't have a separate menu. Just two dollars off drinks is what w were told. Probably why it was empty at 5:30. Also weird. They have this huge space and don't seem to have any idea what to do with it. Drinks were the same as the food. Wildly overpriced and the bartender didn't seem to know what they were doing. So, fitting for the overall concept. I was excited about the new bar because we have an office down the street but this looks like a hard pass for me. 5 stars is for the staff because they were great. read more

I came here recently for lunch with my wife. The place is huge. There is a massive bar area down a few steps, while the "dining" tables are adequately spaced "upstairs". The mall this place is in is a dump. There is a Mexican restaurant next door. I mention this because there is the crab/seafood menu and then there is an extensive Mexican food menu as well. I wonder if they just get the Mexican food from the restaurant next door? I don't know, nothing wrong in that. The tables have a paper "tablecloth" on them with plastic utensils. The reason for this is they don't use plates. They just bring you your seasoned seafood in a double plastic bag, and it is dumped out onto the paper "tablecloth". I saw this happening at the only other occupied table and immediately lost my appetite. My wife, undeterred, ordered some mussels. Ordinarily, we'll also order vegetables with any meal, but the side servings of vegetables are priced like filet mignon. I asked if I ordered the chips & guacamole, did it come with a serving of salsa? Alas, our server said no. What does a tiny amount of salsa cost a restaurant? 50 cents? So, I stuck with a glass of water. I was done. I couldn't bring myself to eat here. My wife ate a few of the mussels, digging them out from the plastic bags with her plastic fork. She said they were "ok" but we paid and departed, after a very poor experience. No pictures because I wasn't in the mood. read more

First time visiting this place and wasn't that bad. We had a reservation for 6 and our table was ready upon arrival for a Monday dinner. Place is like a sit down fast-food with TV to watch sports. They also have a bar situated at the back for happy hour. Our server was nice and attentive. Food is okay, we chose cajun sauce for king crabs, naked shirmp and mussels. rice is flavorful. however, shrimp pasta was bland and doesn't compliment the garlic bread. They also charged 3% if paying debit or credit card which is shady. Plenty of parking in a nice neighborhood. Overall, I decided to give 3 stars since I'm unsure if would comeback. read more

Second time coming here. Service is good. Drinks were good. I ordered the mussel beach seafood boil and added clams. The Cajun house mix sauce is on the saltier side, but I'm fine with it because I like salty. Paired it up with Calamari. Second time I came I ordered the naked shrimp and added corn and sausage. I like the fried vanilla ice cream, it comes with cinnamon crisps that tastes like Cinnamon Toast Crunch. read more

I'm from Orange County but I come to Thousand Oaks VERY OFTEN to visit relatives attending CalLu. One of my favorite restaurants around CalLutheran is Cajun Crab Shack. The food is flavorful, colorful and plentiful. The restaurant has a bar, but my favorite drink is the unsweetened iced tea. The restaurant is spacious, plenty of room for large parties. They also have a patio area for those that enjoy eating outside. The service is always accurate and timely, the only pet peeve I have about this place, is that so far, I have never experienced a smile from the staff, everyone is always serious making the experience less welcoming. We are a people first industry, therefore there is nothing more personal that a connection that comes from a genuine smile. read more

This was by far the worst crawfish I have ever had. The crawfish tasted old, stale, and had an awful flavor completely inedible. To make matters worse, the pricing was dishonest. Online it clearly says $12 per pound, but when I went to pick up my order, I was charged $24 per pound. That's DOUBLE the advertised price. And by no means am I picky eater I'm practically a garbage disposal. Not only was the food terrible, but I walked away paying the most I've ever been charged at a seafood restaurant for the worst quality I've ever experienced. If you're going to charge an absurd amount, at least make sure the food is edible. Overall, an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. Negative stars don't waste your money. read more

I give this a good review. Shrimp is pretty tough to peel off the shell. It's not juicy as boiling crab. The medium spicy is pretty spicy. If you are looking for alternative to boiling crab because your in Thousand Oaks area I wouldn't compare it with boiling crab. You'll have to let your expectation go. Service is good, no complaint. Cajun Crab Shack is amazing!! The food was incredible, and Antonio provided fast, friendly service. I had the Clams Ahoy seafood combo, and my fiancé loved the Shrimp Scampi Pasta. My dad had the Red Snapper Fish Plate, and we all shared the Beef Nachos, which were delicious. My sister loved the Shrimp Fajita, and the Micheladas are hands down the best we've ever had, you have to try it! The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. I did a pick up order so not sure if maybe that's what did it but the shrimp was very overcooked. When peeling it , it was almost becoming a paste. The flavor was good and the spice level was the right amount for what I chose. I didn't really interact much with the staff so not sure what the dinning experience would be. I didn't like the sausage that it came with. I have the combo with the shrimp mussels crab legs sausage potato and corn. The potato was cooked perfectly and the corn was also a little over done. Maybe dinning in would be better and the flavors were delicious so I would probably give them another shot when I am back in town but this time I would eat there. read more

The Fish soup is amazing! I asked for just fish and shrimps. The bowl is large enough for 2, but I eat the whole thing. It's on a tomato base, with onions, slaw, carrots, zucchini and crab legs. #4 Clams Ahoy & Carne Asada Fries were split between four of us with rice each! The Yelp reviews did not lie - the butter garlic sauce was excellent. A heads up - looks like the white rice is also buttered. We all felt content with our food and didn't fill us up too much. My group of five really enjoyed our time at the Crab Shack - we went on a Sunday at 12 PM and didn't have to wait to be seated. Though there was a bit of a wait for our food but might have been because there was one big group in front of us. I'd come again but would probably try a 1lb of shrimp with a different sauce. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor comfortable seating with paper covered tables to eat on like a real crab boil. The restaurant had tons of seafood options with also non seafood options. Their popular dish is the combo 1 which includes snow crab, fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn. They give you options on seasoning and spice level which is a nice touch. The seafood was very tasty but the medium spice was more like hot spice. So beware if you don't like spice. They offer beer and wine. Beer or white wine are great with the seafood. Service was fine. Prices are kind of high. Be aware that the restaurant does not carry ice cream as promised to Yelpers who check in. I had the check in coupon but they had no ice cream or no substitute. We spent $150 for 3 people. It was overall very good seafood with slightly elevated prices. read more

The Good - Had to think what was as good.....well, I'll just say the food wasn't terrible just nothing to write home about. The Bad - WAY OVERPRICED!! Really couldn't believe how little food they give you for what they charge. The crab legs had to be the skinniest I have ever had. Made me think if these crabs were too small to take out of the ocean. Corn was way too soggy. Can't comment too much on the service because I ordered online, but did notice that the place was completely empty when I picked up. 02/14/2025. I know it's a busy day for all restaurants that day. But my family waited for 30 mins to be seated. Then waited for almost 2 hours and nobody from the staff even bothered to update us what is happening or even offered us a cracker or chips while we are waiting for our food starving to death. We've ordered drinks and was willing to pay but told the waiter we are leaving and guess what? , he said that food will be out in 10 mins and that we should stay. Seriously???!!! He could've told us like an hour ago or admit beforehand that we there is something wrong inside the kitchen ( only 1 cook , frozen seafood unthawed , etc). Or they're under staff, etc. Just be honest and we will understand. My Rating 1/10. read more

This restaurant is only about a half mile from my house, how did I not know of it. Great food and good sized portion. A little noisy but definitely worth a visit. I had the fajitas and the were terrific. The next table had the bucket of shrimp and that's where I'm going next visit. Try Cajun Crab Shack and you won't be disappointed! read more
