I've been a fan of Fish Bone every since I found their first location out in Tarzana (that's now in Woodland Hills). The new location in Thousand Oaks has the same great quality and taste as the original location. My go to meal is the cat fish filet and fries, which is fried and seasoned to perfection. read more

Fishbone Seafood has officially open and is serving up Southern comfort & Cajun-inspired soul food. I had the fried catfish and shrimp combo plate which was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Don't sleep on their homemade dill tartar sauce! The hush puppies were some of the best I've had in these parts, and the collard greens tasted like true home cooking. I love that the collard greens were slightly salty and very flavorful. A good traditional collard greens. As for the fried catfish, phenomenal. Super light and crispy, perfect white meat fish (not gritty or dark). What really stood out though was the genuine warmth of the service. I was actually their first customer of the day and they surprised me with a slice of sweet potato pie. The staff took the time to chat with me, made me feel at home, and even walked me out, opening the door and helping me with my bag full of food. That kind of care is rare these days and I can safely say service is a 10/10. I felt that prices were reasonable for the amount of food given. This is def a tucked away spot and I hope more people find them. I really want a spot like this to make it and as they are new I really want them to feel welcomed and to have a good turn out. A new seafood restaurant in town, had to check it out. Apparently, there are many other stores around Los Angeles, I had no idea. The prices are reasonable and the taste is good! I had the fish dinner (catfish) and it was more than enough for me alone, I saved half for lunch tomorrow. I live very close to the store and went straight home to enjoy my meal. I had to warm it up slightly. The red beans and rice and potato salad were very good. The peach Cobbler I'd skip next time. It was a pie filling with a bit of crust on top, nothing too exciting. I'll definitely be back, I'd like to try the other sides and the red snapper. read more

Great food! Reminds me of home and my childhood as my family is from the south & Louisiana. The service was good, the woman at the front was very sweet and asked me all the needed questions to make sure my order was right. I ended up getting the fried catfish Poboy with a side of red beans and rice! Everything was very tasty and I give this place 5 stars. Friendly staff, lovely owners, but not ready for prime time as the kitchen is either inexperienced or not properly set up.The hush puppies and grilled shrimps were excellent, however the rest of our orders were only fair and just SLOW to process and present, especially when there were no orders ahead of mine. As for family, my elderly father could not eat both the beans and collards as they were both too spicy in heat. This is a huge no-no for those that do not or cannot tolerate heat.... especially when being the signature staples on the menu, so do be forewarned. Also, as a Southern influenced establishment, I would expect the world's greatest fried chicken, most especially in considering fried chicken is the hottest marketplace trend currently in the take-out/dine in industry. Fried chicken is also my kids favorite too, so this was a miss considering the establishment only serves seafood. Do be aware that this is not really a dine in establishment, there is very limited seating and the tables are small and cramped. This restaurant is primarily set up for take out, and whether dining onsite or off, there is LOTS and LOTS of plastic trash......which for me alone is a MASSIVE negative. I hope this gets fixed, there are much better options available and the less trash the better. I will go back in a month or so, but with amazing Persian take out just across the parking lot, Thai food next door and the always present Mongolian BBQ (I so miss Lusty's), the next visit will need to be amazing for me to come back a third time. I hope the owner reads this review and makes the positive changes needed for such a business to succeed in this community and demographic.....(Fried chicken....hint, hint) Please do try Fishbone..... definitely worth a couple visits! read more

I had the combo platter with catfish and shrimp with their garlicky tartar sauce. They were cooked perfectly and were also seasoned well. I have been there twice and each time I had friendly service. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside and soft inside. I enjoyed the potato salad and macaroni salad. I added two of their special hot sauce to the red beans and rice for a spicy vinegary kick. Fantastic! I read a number of positive posts on NextDoor that led me to check it out for myself. They opened in August 2025, so still very new. Glad to spread the word and encourage people to check it out. I stopped in during the slow part of a weekend afternoon and was instantly welcomed. As a first time diner, we were guided through the offerings - lunch specials, dinner specials, sides, and such. There is definitely a southern style to the menu, notably the seasonings and sides like legit collard greens, red beans and rice, and amazing Hush Puppies. Almost all of the items can be grilled, if fried foods are something you avoid. But if the hush puppies are any indication of their frying technique, they were wonderfully crispy on the outside, not greasy at all, and filled with flavor on the inside. Oh the shrimp po'boy was mighty tempting as were all kinds of fried fish but I opted for grilled salmon on the lunch special. Absolutely worth the $2 surcharge. Really well prepared. This is basically a quick serve or I guess we call them fast casual place. But the fish was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of seasoning. It came with a tartar sauce that also had tons of flavor. Dill was notable among them. What it wasn't was plain mayonnaise and relish. The whole place has a family run vibe to it - a friendly team just looking to feed you good food at a fair price. The vibe is so personable that I had no idea that this is part of a relatively new, small franchise. The secret sauce, if you will, is that the brand, menu, and quality are consistent but each franchisee brings their own personality to serve their neighborhood and give each location a neighborhood feel. I look forward to coming back and working my way through the menu. One cannot live on bread, burgers, and chicken alone.
