The fries were great and y'all can't sleep on their sauce. Whoever's in the back knows their stuff. The best part of the meal were the beignets. We have been here a few times -- in general we kind of avoid the mall -- but today we needed the Apple Store so decided to get lunch here first. It's consistently good, the shrimp is sweet and juicy. For the most part the okra is tender with its little explosive seeds like caviar and just the right amount of salt. My husband and I shared a shrimp basket and substituted the okra for the fries. So why 4 stars instead of five? I wish they had a beverage fountain, or at least a vat of iced tea. Also, this time there was a little too much residual oil. It's as if the frier temp was just a few degrees too low. The people who take our orders are always friendly and helpful. Ambience is... well, it's a food court, what can I say. Cajun/Creole food is one of my favorite cuisines and it's so hard to find in California, especially in the 805. For a long time now we've had limited options and once I saw that this former food truck was making their way into the Thousand Oaks Mall Food Court I was all ears! Finally made it in today to try them out and they lived up to the hype. As I mentioned above Creole Kings is located inside the Oaks mall food court area. You can't miss them. They have a large sign and a good location in the middle. The menu was large with some great poboy options and fried seafood baskets. They also have beignets and other small desserts. It was cool being in the food court and hearing other people walk by and talk about this spot in excitement, since it is unique and different spot to traditional food court style foods. I love fried catfish and knew this had to be my first dish to try from this spot. The young gentleman that rang me up at the register was very friendly. There were some small glitches with their online system, but it took one of the other team members just a minute to help the young guy and then we were on our way for me to place my order. He was very polite and nice. He took down my name to call out when my order when it was ready and then I stepped aside and waited. The good news is that their seafood is fried up fresh and made to order. So for food court type meals, I would say this takes a little bit longer than some of the other stalls, but it is well worth the wait and you are getting fresh and delicious food. I didn't mind the wait but just acknowledging it does take a couple extra minutes. Once my order was ready, they called out my name, and I took it to one of the nearby tables. Another pro tip and recommendation is I do believe you need to eat this type of food fresh versus taking it to go/delivered. I don't think fried catfish hits the same when you eat it a while later. I know that my experience and the taste of the food was a 5/5 because I ate it right when it was ready, so I would recommend you grab a seat and enjoy. The fried catfish was delicious and some of the best I've had in the area. The batter was super crispy and flavorful, and the fish tasted very fresh, melt in your mouth. The fries were very well seasoned and perfectly crunchy. I love their remoulade sauce and definitely had to ask for an extra one because one would not be enough. It was truly a delicious meal and everything was super fresh and had great flavor. I also feel like the prices were reasonable for the amount of food I was given and I was able to take some home for leftovers because it was a good portion. I definitely think Creole King is a 5/5. The food was very tasty, the service friendly, and just the whole menu/concept is a breath of fresh air in this area. Yayyyyy a good bite to eat at the Oaks Food Court that's not your typical chain!! Don't get me wrong, I love a good Corn Dog on a Stick (you can spot one in my photo LOL), but it's so nice to see something fresh and new. You can tell they're a family-owned business by their friendly and welcoming service. We asked for the signature entree with catfish and a side of fried okra. We wanted our catfish fried but accidentally communicated that we wanted it grilled; the lady taking our order quickly stopped us and said "fried is better" -- we're so thankful for her honesty and glad she caught our mistake! Everything is made to order so our food took a little while, but we didn't mind as we were excited to try all the food. The catfish met our expectations :) Breading was crispy and full of flavor, and the actual fish was hot and flaky -- so so yummy. Sauces were great too and had the exact flavor profile I was looking for. I do wish the proportions of the entree were better; we devoured the catfish right away and were still left with a bunch of lettuce and fries. For $6, you get a lot of fried okra! I've been there more than five times and each time they never fail me I get the loaded fries with no pickles and I get the grilled chicken sometimes fried and it is perfect to the T. Saw this place opened up at The Oaks Mall food court. Being a huge fan of beignets I had to give it a try. It's takes a little while to get your food, but it's because everything is made to order. It's not a restaurant, it's a bona fide institution that's churning out some of the best, most authentic Po'Boys and side dishes. And within a mall food court of all places! I've been thrice now and I've tried all the staples thus far. Shrimp, catfish (my personal favorite), chicken wings, fries, okra, and all the sauces. My grandmother passed several years ago and one thing that's been lost in the aftermath of her passing was her recipe codexes. I haven't even attempted to recreate what was once the cornerstone of my upbringing. What grandmama's fried chicken in Kentucky or papa's smoked brisket is in Texas, the equivalent in Louisiana is your grandmother's jambalaya. Some of the best food I've had at a food court. Let's start with the fries. Weird to begin with but these are arguably the best fries in the area. Perfectly cooked, crispy, and well seasoned. This is what McDonald's fries aspire to. I had the Catfish Po' Boy. The fish is excellent with great coating. It has that nice crunch on the outside but when you crack open the shell you see the steam from the fish. Only complaint is that it's too much fish for the bread. After I put aside one piece it was sandwichable. Last was the fried okra. Perfect. Great sauce. We'll be visiting again even though we stopped going to the mall. Very disappointed! We were told by the owner that all the sauces were vegan & so were the beignets. When we visited the following week, there was someone different working & we asked for extra sides of the vegan sauces on the side. She said that only one of the sauces were vegan, and we found out they use eggs & dairy products in the batter/sauces as told to us by the cook himself. We were taken aback as we were told by the OWNER that it was vegan & safe for us to eat, it made sense now as to why we got a bout of food poisoning later after eating there for the first time. They're a little more doughy than what I have tried before, and they have like a syrup on them. But pair it with one of their sauces I tried the chocolate it was so delicious.
